Inside the Numbers: Week 17

January 2nd, 2013 - 10:37am by Stuart Zaas

0
The Broncos were the only team in the NFL in 2012 that did not allow a single 300-yard passer.

No. 1
Denver’s 38-3 win against Kansas City coupled with Indianapolis’ 28-16 win against Houston meant the Broncos finished with the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed and tied for the NFL’s best regular-season record in 2012, finishing 13-3.

Quarterback Peyton Manning finished the season with Broncos records in completions (400), passing yards (4,659), completion percentage (68.6 pct.), touchdowns (37), passer rating (105.9) and 300-yard games (9).

3
The Broncos are one of just three teams in NFL history to win 11 consecutive games by seven or more points. Denver joins the 1942 Chicago Bears (11) and the 2005 Indianapolis Colts (13) as the only teams to accomplish that feat. Manning was the signal caller for two of those three teams.

5
Wide receivers Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas each topped the 1,000-yard mark in 2012 to become just the fifth 1,000-yard receiving tandem in Broncos history.

6-0
The Broncos swept the AFC West in 2012, marking just the second time in franchise history the team accomplished that feat (1998).

11
Denver’s 11-straight wins to end the regular-season represents the second-longest winning streak in team history.

13
Decker caught two touchdowns against the Chiefs on Sunday to finish the year with 13 receiving scores. That figure ranks second in the NFL in 2012.

Denver’s 13 regular-season wins are the most ever for Head Coach John Fox.

18.5
Linebacker Von Miller extended his own single-season franchise sack record with a quarterback takedown of Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn on Sunday. He finished the season with 18.5, topping the mark set by Elvis Dumervil (17) in 2009.

21
Decker’s two touchdowns on Sunday gave him 21 in the past two seasons, which are the most by a Broncos player in a two-year span.

26
The Broncos held the Chiefs to just 26 net passing yards on Sunday, to mark the fewest any NFL team allowed in the 2012 season.

42.1
For the second year in a row, punter Britton Colquitt set a franchise record for net punting average. He totaled 67 punts for a 42.1-yard net average, which topped the mark he set last season of 40.2 yards.

100
Fox earned his 100th career win as an NFL head coach with Denver’s 38-3 victory against the Chiefs on Sunday.

144.8
Manning’s 144.8 passer rating against the Chiefs was the highest by an AFC passer this season.

369
The Broncos outgained Kansas City 488 to 119 in total yardage. The 369-yard differential was the third-best in franchise history.

1,434
Thomas finished Sunday’s win with seven catches for 122 yards and one touchdown for his seventh 100-yard game of the year. His 1,434 receiving yards this season rank fourth in the NFL and are the third-most in Broncos history.

Turtle no I didnt. Havnt watched many of the bowl games this year. Watched the Clemson LSU and Northwesterns but thats about it. I have to youtube it.

  2. RH709 says:

We can at least agree that we need to get someone new for the MLB spot.

  3. Bronco_Turtle says:

    :)

You definitely have to youtube it!!! It was GREAT (and Michigan is my favorite team)! Hit the ball carrier 3 yards deep in the backfield, knocked off his hemet, forced a fumble and recovered it!!! 10 point play man!!!

  4. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT Alec Ogletree has announced he will declare for the draft.

  5. alaskanbronco06 says:

That is one heck of a hit!!! He started off the new year with a bang!

  6. alaskanbronco06 says:

Ryan Clay has an undisclosed injury but isnt a game missing injury.

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

RH I can agre with you there! Hopefully they move WW to the middle, and DJ stays on the weak side next season. I think Irving is a viable candidate as well to be a MLB before it’s all said and done…

I hope we get a Good OL/DL guy in the first round

  8. RH709 says:

    LMAO at the Denver Post

“Oh yeah, your Denver Broncos. Nah, they have no chance as Mike Klis tells it, after changing his report on Denver’s apparent interest eleventy times yesterday. Why would Manning want to go to Denver? Doesn’t he want to join a team closer to SB contention? The Broncos’ offensive line suck elephant balls, no? We’ve already been told countless times that Denver’s receivers are terrible. Would Manning want to play for John Fox, who hates to throw the ball, and why would Pat Bowlen spend the cash, as Mark Kiszla wonders? Besides, Tebow and Manning are represented by the same agents as super sleuth Woody Paige has discovered, or read yesterday afternoon on Mike Florio’s blog. Denver is obviously the longest shot of all those teams, amirite?”

Sure hindsight an all but these guys blew it bad. They honestly have the “inside” scoop?

  9. 1nOnlyTRB says:

MLB, G, DT … is how I would rank our need,

    TRB

  10. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    Losing bunk sucked.

    TRB

  11. OTbroncos says:

Any word on what exactly is up with Clady?

  12. RH709 says:

    Clady = Vegas baby! Vegas!!

    (I have no idea)

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

I dont think losing Bunk sucked. He was non existent this year and our DTs got the job done.

DT however is our biggest need as every DT we have is a FA this year.

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT I havnt seen what exactly is wrong just that he has undisclosed injury.

  15. RH709 says:

BT, here is a different stat for you. Denver’s 11 game win streak started when Mays was out. I’m not saying this is the only factor because football is too dynamic to claim this was the one and only key. Just saying it is one of the many keys on the key chain.

  16. OTbroncos says:

This draft class is extremely deep at DT & DE.

  17. RH709 says:

Trevathan is who I am hoping can make the transition to MLB. He is a little small but he is fast and is getting really good in coverage.

  18. OTbroncos says:

Thx AB. Hopefully he’s just hung over still from New Years.. Lol

  19. Bronco_Turtle says:

TRB, what’s your take on Irving? I like the way he hits it is my hope that he is just now getting fully recovered from his injuries sustained in the car crash a few years ago… He shows good speed on special teams from what I can tell

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

to add to that RH, Mays was suspended for the first game we won against the raiders and we won with Brooking in then too… doesn’t change my oppinion of him and how his presents is or is not game changing… I think when NE starts dragging the middle with Grond and Hernandez Brook will really show his age…

  21. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT yes it is deep class for DT and DEs. and hopefully it is just a hangover or something really minor that wont linger

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Gronk*

  23. Bronco_Turtle says:

So… who has the bigger emotional advantage this weekend with BAL/INDY?!? The Pagano story is huge, but the Ray Lewis story is just as momentous, especially to those fans and that franchise/team…

    Who has the edge?

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

AB, Bunk was playing for the hapless saints … with all that drama, the loss of a DC and defensive players … I wonder why he sucked. I am not gonna look at his saint output to compare what his Bronc output would have been. When he was here he was exceptional, and this year the scheme and supporting cast has been soo good that many shined. I think we woulda shined even brighter with us … just me tho.

Sup Turtle …. Irving I don’t think is going to make it. Never liked the pick … but mainly because of the injuries he suffered. It supposedly slowed him down physically but he was still impecable from a cerebral point. Maybe given the chance he can be who we thought he was … i just don’t see it honestly. I was really hoping he could overcome his adversity too.

    TRB

  25. 1nOnlyTRB says:

MLB is undoubtedly our weak link but i think Brooking has done well enough, much like Ray Lewis or any other old LB … age has slowed him down physically but not mentally. His experience has been valuable. But we definitely need to update the position. I’d personally take brooking over mays, Just me tho.

    TRB

  26. Bronco_Turtle says:

Thanks TRB! Irving sure lays wood when he has the chance… he bounced Royal off the ground pretty good! I’m rooting for him for sure!

  27. alaskanbronco06 says:

TRB I disagree. Not about that not being part of his drop off but players can go into a new place and be part of a good unit and still do well. Bunk didnt do think. Part of it IMO is he just doesnt have what it takes. Also it is impossible to know what his output with us wouldve been.

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

Sorry meant a player can go into a new place and be part of a not so good unit and still do well.

  29. Ike says:

Does manning think the bronco fans are loud and crazier than the colts fans does anybody know

  30. RH709 says:

BT, I don’t think Brooking will play much against NE.
We will use more of a 3-4 with Wood, DJ, Trevathan and Miller.

  31. 1nOnlyTRB says:

You maybe right AB, but once again i can mostly only speak to what he did for us before he left. Bannan was good with us, and then had a bit of a drop off with rams, came back, doing well again. Same with bunk doing well with us, and then drop off when he left. I can only speak to his performance with us. He wasn’t a 3down DT i don’t think but he received alot of praise for his work with us last year.

    TRB

  32. RH709 says:

    new blog

  33. Ike says:

Does manning think the fans are louder and crazier than the colt fans

  34. bigmike76 says:

I don’t know about you guys but I think Vickerson has been playing LIGHTS OUT when it comes to stopping the run. Just during the Chiefs game I him mulitple times just stop guys in their tracks while being blocked! The dude is impressive..
