Inside the Numbers: Week 10

November 12th, 2012 - 10:47am by Stuart Zaas

0
Denver’s defense held Carolina without a third-down conversion as the Panthers finished 0-12 on the day. Over the past three games, opponents have converted just 6-of-38 third downs (.158 pct.) against the Broncos. Sunday was the fourth time in franchise history that the opponent has failed to convert a third down.

Wide receiver Trindon Holliday is the only undefeated player (min. 9 games) in the NFL this season. He spent the first five weeks of the year with Houston, before coming to Denver before the team’s Week 6 game at San Diego.

2
Safety Mike Adams sacked Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the end zone on Sunday to mark the Broncos’ second safety of the season. Denver is the only team in the league to record multiple safeties this year.

Tony Carter’s 40-yard interception return for a touchdown was his second defensive score of the season (65-yard FR TD at S.D.) and his second interception of the season. He is the only player in the NFL to return both an interception and fumble recovery for a touchdown this season.

3
Holliday’s 76-yard punt return made him one of just three Broncos to score on a punt return and kick return in the same season. He is one of six players in Broncos annals to record multiple special-teams touchdowns in the same season and just the second to do so in back-to-back games.

5
Defensive end Elvis Dumervil strip-sacked Newton on the final play of the first quarter for his fifth forced fumble of the season, which is tied for second in the NFL this season. His five forced fumbles on the season are the most since defensive end Simon Fletcher finished with five in 1992.

7
The Broncos defense sacked Newton seven times on Sunday, marking the most in a single-game by the team since Oct. 12, 2003 against Pittsburgh.

10
Linebacker Von Miller registered his 10th sack of the season in the first quarter at Carolina to become just the 11th player to reach double digit sack totals in his first two NFL seasons.

21
Miller finished with four tackles for a loss against Carolina, bringing his season total to an NFL-best 21.

70%
Quarterback Peyton Manning completed 27-of-38 passes (.711 pct.) for 301 yards with one touchdown (103.1 rtg.) to mark his seventh game with at least a 70-percent completion percentage, which is a Broncos single-season record.

78.9%
Kicker Matt Prater extended his NFL accuracy record from beyond 50 yards with his 53-yard field goal in the second quarter at Carolina. He is now 15-of-19 (.789 pct.) for his career from 50-yards or farther.

93
With the victory over the Panthers, Head Coach John Fox tied Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin for the third-most wins among active NFL head coaches.

147
Manning won his 147th career game, tying him with Dan Marino for third all-time. His career record is now 147-70 (.677 pct.).

420
Manning’s 10-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Stokley in the first quarter was the 420th career touchdown for the 15th-year quarterback. That also ties him with Marino, this time for second place in NFL history.

8,000
Running back Willis McGahee became just the 44th player in NFL history to amass 8,000 career rushing yards. He finished with 14 carries for 56 yards (4.0 avg.) and now has 8,042 rushing yards for his career.

Wanted to join the fun on current blog! I also wish to apologize for being cranky some times. I do miss B/F/E! Like him or hate him he sure made posting on Friday nights fun!
DJ will be a backup unless somebody goes down to injury IMO. JD will not upset chemistry aka Mojo the defense has going. Will have to see if Willis gets a Green Ball? I do not think he will due to being a veteran. But his fumble problems need to be worked on somehow. I also enjoyed watching all three phases of the team score! But the D looked like they were on fire. Winning as a team feels great.
I also want to do a Mile High Salute to all Veteran’s out there serving and to those who have served! Thanks greatly for you time.

    OC

  4. Orange_Crusher says:

    about the photo above……..

My whife thinks the new uniforms are really great but seriously they need some kind of pad or cup or loin cloth or something because thats just R rated!!!!!!

And what’s with Bruton holding his dreads up in the background….lol

    ILMSDB!!!!

Hey, folks used to tell me I was a pessimist all the time and I told them no way I was just a realist, well that must be correct since DB is pretty much on his own with the negative overview at a time like this, LOL.

  6. baylinorcrush says:

Good thing you mentioned the wife OC, LOL.

    Hello BRONCO COUNTRY!!!!!

Have not been around to check in on the blog for awhile. Fall is my favorite time of the year of course being able to watch my beloved Broncos but to go up into the high country and become one with nature. Elk hunting in Colorado at 12,000 ft is an exhilarating experience and allows most of us to use all of our God given senses of sight, sound, feeling and smell. What an experience with no phone, computer or wife (don’t get me wrong…I love my wife dearly) but being in tune with your senses with no distractions of modern day life is a true gift that we have lost. Wow! not sure where that came from but it was good being in the mountains for 9 days.

Anyway, back to Bronco Football. From what i can see our team is starting to come together with more and more success from all the hard work they have been putting is starting to pay off.

I was hard on DJ and I know that everyone makes mistakes. I still believe as a role model for kids who look up to these guys should hold themselves at the highest standard like a PM or TT. He has paid for his mistakes and it all comes down to how he conducts himself from here on out…no room for error. (But we need the depth going into the playoffs.)

Wow! all phases of the game played well yesterday except for maybe the lost fumbles at RB position. Willis M. is a good running back but could become great if he can hold on to the ball when we are needing to run time off the clock.

With less than half of the season to play we still have room for improvement and my prediction of 12 – 4 for the season of course after i said we would go undefeated is looking pretty good.

If Broncos do not win a ring this year Champ has said he would consider moving to safety if he had to next year. IMO he is still is a great all-around cornerback. Great Run support, tackler and team leader. My wife reminded me we got to the SB as a wild card team! When he gets his ring then retirement might come a creeping into his mind! For now it’s when Broncos win AFC west and get into the fun time with a home game!

Not a test here but what area did you draw? And did you bring home some meat?

  10. killerkod says:

I think that if we do manage to win a championship they’ll def want to stay together and make one more run at it since all the talent will be largely intact. We def need to lock up Clady…….he’s def earned his keep.

  11. FTR says:

    KK
I was thinking the same thing! They came close on Clady before season started! This is a must for the Broncos!! LT of his caliber do not come around often!!

  12. Orange_Crusher says:

Do you know what happens when you are pessimistic……?

    You smash your thumb…..

    Proof in the pudding…..

    jstkidn…….lol

  13. Orange_Crusher says:

A realist foresees and recognizes the possibility of error and the pain it could cause…

So he swings the hammer more cautiously….

Wow, that’s deep….. Maybe Turtle can put it in the next installment of his book series……LOL

  14. Orange_Crusher says:

Does anybody here watch that show about the guy that makes moonshine in Tennessee?

I often wonder if that guy is B.F.E….LOL

  15. FTR says:

    LOL@ OC
We could bring back TT as a running back! Then we would have more postings!
    Just kidding!

  16. FTR says:

Wrong place at the right time! Or right time at the wrong place!

  17. FTR says:

Well I am off to watch the MNF game!

    LONG LIVE THE NECK!!
    GO BRONCOS!!
    Peace Out!!

  18. DaddyBronc says:

OC – you always crack me up.

But I didn’t smash it with a hammer. I outgrew that years ago.

I dropped my big compressor and framing nail gun that was connected to it of the back of the truck. As I was trying to catch falling stuff, I tried to scoop everything with my body and the tailgate. Well, somehow my thumb ended up inside the latch of the tailgate. The missing skin doesn’t hurt to bad, but I had to ‘drill’ the thumbnail. With the whole situation I looked like a ‘stooge’ there for a second. LOL Hope that makes you laugh at my expense and doesn’t gross anyone. LOL Called “dancing, then seeing stars!”

Bay – just attempting to add perspective not negativity.

  19. DaddyBronc says:

Uh – OC – B.F.E. could never afford to make moonshine. He’s be his own best customer. LOL

Hey B.F.E. I miss you around here on Friday nights. It’s staying pretty quiet. You are still the best rant anywhere!!! Hope all is well.

  20. strandoftds82 says:

The Offense is averaging 30 points a game. No worries from my end. And the Offense has just gotten started and is only going to get better. SCARY BETTER!! Soon this OFFENSE will be a FINE TUNED WELL OILED RUNNING MACHINE!!

  21. strandoftds82 says:

B F E, hope your around some time soon, miss ya bro!!

  22. strandoftds82 says:

And as for Eric Decker, 1st downs are more important than trying to get extra yards. First catch the ball first and foremost. Turn around and catch the ball instead of making the spectacular play. Every time you just catch the football, that just makes Manning and company all the more dangerous. Just turn around and catch it please!!

  23. DaddyBronc says:

“LIKE” on that last post – Strand…I’m with you….Please Decker!!!

  24. strandoftds82 says:

I’m copying Bays words but adding my twist to my frustrations with these routine catches being dropped because he wants more YAC. He’ll get it figured out.

  25. DaddyBronc says:

Hey what’s this!!! A KC team showed up tonight that can move the ball – hmmmm – novel concept!!! LOL

    Scalp the Chiefs!!!

  26. strandoftds82 says:

If the Chiefs win the Steelers tonight, I’ll be laughing my head off. LOL

  27. DaddyBronc says:

    Pit is looking awful.

“Cursing the ref” 15 yards!!! PIT is forgetting their professionalism.

  28. DaddyBronc says:

At this point KC is so far behind in ranking I could probably wish them to beat that arrogant “Big Ben” as well.

    Naw!!!

  29. Orange_Crusher says:

Hey guys, i talked to B.F.E by the email he left and he said he can’t even read the posts on the blog because he has been banned from this site so he can’t read the stuff you put up here, just so you know…

I love the “he’d be his own best customer”….LMBO!!!

    Thnks 4 the laugh DB….

  30. DaddyBronc says:

Big Ben is aiming the ball…it looks funny. What is that about?

  31. Orange_Crusher says:

FTR… It’s good to see you too and I just got your joke on my comment….totally LMBO…

I guess the diaper DEPENDS on the size of the guy fumbling the football……hahahahaha!

  32. tlcat06 says:

OC, what a bummer about B.F.E. thanks for letting us know.

  33. strandoftds82 says:

    Thanks OC. I’ll miss him.

  34. strandoftds82 says:

    Evening Ticat06!

  35. DaddyBronc says:

Hi Strand and Cat! You all watching MNF?

  36. DaddyBronc says:

What was that focus on PM for the ‘half time show’???

  37. tlcat06 says:

LOL!!!! I can’t stop laughing! This is soooooo funny! Anybody catch the soundtracks during halftime tonight?

Peyton to Champ: “Let’s do this old man”

Fox to Peyton after he tried to “slide”: Fox “Did I say anything about a run? Throw it next time”

    hahahahahahahahahahaha

  38. strandoftds82 says:

    Sure am GRAND-DADDYBRONCO!

  39. strandoftds82 says:

    Those are classics. LOL

  40. strandoftds82 says:

Peyton has a cool sense of humor. LOL

  41. tlcat06 says:

Peyton is a freaking coach, if you didn’t know already. I loved that. It made my night.

  42. tlcat06 says:

Just so you know… That was good for my heart. This team loves each other. Totally obvious.

  43. DaddyBronc says:

That was hilarious!!! “OLD MAN”…at 33??? Lord, help us!!!!

  44. DaddyBronc says:

Thanks Strand – GrandDaddyBronc is a good thing!!!

  45. strandoftds82 says:

Peyton now owns 25 Papa John Pizza restaurants in Colorado. It was 21 he bought a few weeks ago, and now he has more.

  46. strandoftds82 says:

    BLESSINGS TO YA DADDYBRONC

  47. tlcat06 says:

I can’t get over it… Fox chiding Peyton for running… “Did I say anything about a run?” LOL

  48. tlcat06 says:

When did he buy four more, strand?

  49. tlcat06 says:

Boy if they can have fun like that with each other… Too cool.

  50. DaddyBronc says:

Haha “who do you think you are…Tebow???.”
