Each week, DenverBroncos.com will go inside the boxscore from the team’s most recent game to give you interesting stats and notes that may have gone unnoticed.
1-1
After two games, Denver is tied with San Diego and Oakland for first place in the AFC West with a 1-1 record. Since realignment in 2002, 62 of the 108 teams (57.4 percent) to make the playoffs at the end of the season began the year at either 1-1 or 0-2.
Denver joins 18 NFL teams at 1-1 after two weeks of play. Seven teams have a perfect 2-0 record at the end of Week 2 and seven teams are 0-2.
1-11
Denver held Cincinnati to 1-of-11 on third downs, including three stops on third-and-1 during the team’s 24-22 victory. The Broncos rank third in the NFL through two games, allowing opponents to convert just 6-of-25 third downs (24.0%).
35
Willis McGahee became the 35th player in team history to post a 100-yard rushing game after carrying the ball 28 times for 101 yards vs. the Bengals. It was his 24th career 100-yard rushing game, which ties for sixth most among active NFL players in that category.
56
With his 1-yard rushing touchdown last week vs. Cincinnati, McGahee is now tied for the second-most touchdowns (56) in the NFL since his rookie season in 2004.
113
WR Eric Decker recorded his first career 100-yard receiving game last week vs. Cincinnati, setting career highs with five catches, 113 yards and two touchdowns.
Decker is one of only three players in the NFL who have registered a return touchdown (90-yard punt return for TD vs. Oakland) and a touchdown from scrimmage this season.
118.0
QB Kyle Orton ranks seventh in the NFL with a 118.0 fourth-quarter quarterback rating (12-of-21, 184 yds., 2 TD, 0 INT) thus far in 2011.
Against Cincinnati, Orton was 2-of-5 for 58 yards and one touchdown (123.3 rtg.). In Week 1 vs. Oakland, he went 10-of-16 for 126 yards and one touchdown (107.8 rtg.).

Repost from previous blog:
Looks like we’ve signed Quan Cosby. Former Texas star wide receiver. Last seen on the Bengals, mainly as a special teams player.
I love the pickup, he will definitely fill in nicely in the return game. Consequently, Johnson was sent back to the practice squad to make room for Cosby.
Sorry if this repeats someone else’s post, I just did a quick glance and did not see it mentioned at this point.
TE John Nalbone was also signed to the practice squad today.
Former 5th round draft pick of the Dolphins, went to college at Monmouth
Interesting stats, with the 3rd down conversions being the most surprising! I like that our team can hold teams on third down. Let’s keep them from doing much on first and second as well lol.
I didn’t submit a score prediction for the Bengals game, crazy week.
I am going Ten 34 Den 20 for Sunday. Hope I am wrong, but they are coming off a big win over Baltimore and will be tough.
Was happy to get a win on Sunday. Not an Orton supporter, but he played smart football. The smartest thing getting the ball to DECKER! Holy cow! Love having 87 on our team.
Stuart!, should this”Since realignment in 2002, 62 of the 108 teams (57.4 percent) to make the playoffs at the end of the season began the year at either 1-1 or 0-2″ be 1-1 or 2-0 ?
Gotta love those 4th quarter stats for Orton so far! At least I do
I certainly hope the D can continue their 3rd down success as well!!!!
Thanks too Stuart. I will look forward to more of these posts throughout the season.
Here is something better looking into the 4th quarter. You have to considering that he is known for putting up good numbers in the fourth in a “meaningless” fashion to the anti-Orton crowd.
Kyle Orton 4th quarter down by less than 7 points in 2011:
3 of 6
50.0 %
81 yds
135.4 % rating
1 td 0 int
Kyle Orton 4th quarter down by less than 7 points in 2010:
33 of 67
49.3 %
366 yds
58.4 % rating
1 td 2 int
What he needs to match his 2010 performance in the 4th quarter down by less than 7 points:
30 of 61
49.1 %
285 yds
- 77% rating
0 td 2 int
A lot of fans, including myself most of the time, talk about paper stats don’t reflect actual game play. The reason why I post so much about Kyle Orton’s stats is that when defending him, his stats are used more than anything else. Also, being a baseball guy, stats mean a whole of a lot more in my sport than football, but just the same, they don’t reflect passion or “feeling” either.
The key to winning against Tennessee, first and foremost is the turnovers. Denver has had 5 turnovers to start the season, they have to get a handle on that. Another solid defensive performance on stopping the run will be very helpful as well. We have to continue to pound the ball on offense. Do them long 6-7 minute drives that end in TDs once we get in the redzone. Do all those things and we might have a chance, unfortunately I think we are going lose a close one 27-21. Like Denver 0723, I’m hoping I’m wrong and we pull out the win. Go Broncos!!!
