Inside the Numbers

1
Head Coach John Fox became the first coach in team history to win a division title in his first season with the club.

6
The Broncos became just the sixth team since the current NFL playoff format was introduced in 1990 to earn a postseason berth after starting the season 1-4.

7
Running back Willis McGahee tied for the league lead with his seventh 100-yard game of the season in Week 17. He finished with 145 yards on 28 carries against Kansas City to push his season total to 1,199 yards.

10
Defensive end Elvis Dumervil became the 10th different player to lead or tie for the Broncos’ lead in tackles for a single game this year last Sunday. He finished with eight stops against the Chiefs.

11
The Broncos are AFC West division champions for the 11th time in franchise history, including the ninth time in Owner/CEO Pat Bowlen’s 28 seasons with the club.

47.4 and 40.2
Punter Britton Colquitt finished the season with a gross punting average of 47.4 yards and a net punting average of 40.2 yards. Both figures represent new club records.

64
Tackle Ryan Clady started his 64th consecutive game to start his career, joining tackle Claudie Minor (1974-77) as the only two players in franchise history to start every regular-season game for the club during their first four NFL seasons.

2,632
Denver’s 216 rushing yards against Kansas City in Week 17 pushed the team’s season total to 2,632, which marks a franchise record.

broncosssssssssssssss i hope dawk can play this game and von can adjust to this cast on his thumb we will need them vs the steelers

  2. royalbroncofan1 says:

I believe Coach Red Miller led the Broncos to a AFC West Division title in his first year has Head Coach in 1977.

  3. killerkod says:

I believe our D will be able to keep the steelers O in check……..and make a game of it…………

I’m more worried about our O and it’s recent inability to move the ball and put points on the board. This will be its toughest test to date, going up against the number 1 D. Just look how they did against some of the worst…….lol

  4. broncsbomber66 says:

Steelers game plan like the best of them. This will be a Dog fight for sure. Wish I could change my prediction, had time to reconsider and my heart believes in Tebow.
E.E.T till he no longer is a BRONCO.
    E.E.T.

Just happy we’re discussing a playoff game and not the draft or future.

    GO Broncos!

    PS: Anything can happen.

    I believe!

    Go Broncos!

    rbf1,

well they did say in his first season with the club … im not sure about red miller since he is way before my time but maybe he was promoted from within the organization thereby not making it its first season.

See Bomber that is why I don’t post any prediction the next day after a loss or a win for that matter. I wait a day or two to calm down . Not that it has helped me one bit sice I have -1 points so far since I messed up big time on my first prediction ever.

  8. timmah says:

I just want to say this. The broncos can beat the pitts. The pitts are old and slow but they somehow have a great defense. When it comes down to it rushing the ball will win this game. Tim has to check the football down more to get going and stop throwing the long ball. I will say this I miss moreno due to the fact that he was amazing in pass screens. Tim needs to be confident and not worry about it this game and from here on out. This is a game that needs to be coached to win and not lose. Let the kid play and do what he do.
    In that my prediction is
    Broncos: 34
    The pitts: 17
The broncos will run over the defense and wear them out that is in my opinion.

Thanks for response TRB.. I’d have to look it up….just going off memory.

  11. killerkod says:

timmah………that is WOS prediction material there……..posting 34 against the number 1 D when we could only scrape together 3 points against the chiefs……..LMAO!

  12. savinghyrule says:

I have a good feeling about this game…if we don’t win, I expect to at least see a dog fight for 60+ minutes.

  13. royalbroncofan1 says:

With Mendenhall out, Broncos will need to focus on stopping the running game with Redmen and John Clay. Clay was a UFA out of Wisconsin.
Was hoping we’d try to sign him last August.

  14. killerkod says:

but timmah, if you win the contest this week I’ll be more than happy to eat crow.

I’m thinking the total points scored in this game will be under 34 together.

  15. royalbroncofan1 says:

Good point timmah, Moreno was pretty effective with screen passes, when he was available. Not sure why we haven’t seen JJ catch some dump offs, as he seems to have good hands.

  16. buck484 says:

I believe we need to intice Polamalu to overplay his rush. Perhaps a sweep to the left and followed by draw up the middle, type plays. If we can get him off balance we may have a chance with some tight end passes.

  17. killerkod says:

    we have TE’s? lol

  18. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I said the same thing, we use that lame WR screen every once in a while but since Moreno went down we haven’t screened with the RB. And its needed. It helps a young QB. We did it alot last year with buck and Moreno. JJ has one of the best hands ive seen in a RB in a while

An explanation was put forth that now that teams keep Tebow in the pockets, pinned down and play man, its hard to screen. Screens mainly work against zones and blitz/zoneblitzes …. which the Pitts run alot so maybe we see some RB screens this game. Some roll outs and bootlegs will be nice too. If they wont let him out of the pocket, create a play that is designed to get him out of the pocket, seems logical to me but like many things its easier said than done apparently.

  19. shaztah says:

I have been thinking about this season a lot the last couple days. At the beginning of the season I did not feel excited about watching the games. I knew that Orton would throw a “pretty” spiral but he just stood there like a statue. If the game was on the line he would crumble. After the first couple games I stopped watching, I would watch via NFL.com but other than that I knew what to expect. During the San Diego game I saw that they put Tim in the game and my husband immediately switched the channel. We have watched every game since. I know the last 3 games were hard to watch but every week I feel like it is going to be exciting and I surely never thought that with Orton. I saw many bloggers say that with Orton we may have beat KC or the Bills. HELLO! He threw 1 TD in 3 games. If Rodgers hadn’t had an off day and they wouldn’t have underestimated that defense then KC would have surely lost. I just really wanted to say thank you to the entire Bronco’s team for the exciting games and the chance to see my favorite team play in the playoffs. I am really looking forward to next year to see how far Tim developes and I really expect great things from this team. BTW I think it is funny when KC fans comment on DP articles cuz they say stuff like “you can keep Tebow we will take Orton” I guess they never saw him play here and didn’t realize his win loss record. Guess that doesn’t matter when you can throw a pretty ball.

  20. NARFF says:

I have a question. on the play were Tebow lost the fumble against the chiefs the player from the chifes that recovered it clearly stepped out of bounds before he picked up the ball. My understanding of the rule is that if a player goes out of bounds he cannot be the first person to touch the ball. Does anyone know if this in fact true?

  21. Broncfalls says:

    shaztah,

I think you bring up some very good points. One in particular is Orton’s “pretty” ball.

From simply a fans standpoint of the NFL…it’s amazing that the story line through the broadcast was 150% about Orton throwing vs. Tim….did you notice how many times they instant replayed the ball in slow motion?

I see the point, but NEVER once did they speak to or have spoke to Orton’s record as a Dever Bronco. Never ONCE did they talk about his inabilities as a quarterback.

It seems that when we play teams, the message always seems to stem to what the opposing QB does so well and how far Tim has to go to be able to be like them….

Now, I’m not a Tebow lover nor a Tebow hater….I simply want him to succeed to the best of his abilities but like many others, when that time comes for us to change in the QB area we need to change.

With that said, I can’t help but think…at some point Tim is going to simply wake up and realize he’s holding back. I’ve seen the deep throw, I’ve seen the short throw and I’ve seen the game where he scrambles and should run but kept his eye down field and found DT….Now I know it’s got to be put all together, but like I said after the KC game and you eluded to Shaztah…..every down I say to myself….”This is it kid…go get it!!” Although you know the deck is stacked against you…some how :) Tim has instilled this “until the clock reads zero we got a chance” type mentality in me.

Is it an unrealistic way to watch a game? Maybe…but from one fan to another….I see your point.

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  22. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

This should be a good game. Steelers will be without Clark and without Mendenhall (torn ACL). Big Ben still doesnt look normal with that ankle.

    Prediciton:

    Broncos 10
    Steelers 7

  23. jsizzla says:

What everyone(including analysts) seems to forget is that this is a young team, especially on offense, and were in the playoffs! Tebow doesn’t even have a full season in yet either does Demariyus. Mcgahee is a vet but his first year here, Fox is our new coach, our Oline is young, decker 2nd year!! Our best Defensive player, no pun to champ and dawk and doom, is a rookie in Von Miller. I’d say we’ve had a hell of a year instead of doggin’ us!

  24. broncoduckfan says:

I haven’t been invited yet into the prediction game but will offer mine anyway. Since the safety is out and Mendenhall as well. And with Ben hobbling, I too predict a relatively low scoring game. I have seen JJ on screens and wheel routes first hand and he is very good in the flat.

I think Prater will have a big day with several drives bogging down in his territory and Fox will let him kick them this week. 3 field goals plus one TD makes it:

    Broncos- 16

    Steelers- 13

  25. truecolors36 says:

23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. 24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

27 The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”
