Inside the Numbers

November 22nd, 2011 - 9:26am by Stuart Zaas

1
Cornerback André Goodman’s 26-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter against the Jets was the first interception return for a touchdown in his 10-year career and his second defensive touchdown overall (30-yd. fumble return for a TD at K.C., 12/6/09).

3
Defensive end Elvis Dumervil and linebacker Von Miller combined to split a sack for the third consecutive game. The duo became the first pair of teammates to share sacks together in three straight games on any team since 2000.

9.5
Miller led the team with 10 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, three tackles for a loss and one pass breakup against the Jets. His 9.5 sacks lead all NFL rookies and all players in the AFC. Miller became one of just three rookies in NFL history (since 1982) to record at least 9.5 sacks through his team’s first 10 games, joining Derrick Thomas and Julius Peppers with that distinction.

12
With Thursday’s victory over the Jets, the Broncos won three games in a 12-day span for just the second time in team history. In 2005, Denver defeated the Raiders, Jets and Cowboys from Nov. 13-24.

16
Dumervil totaled 1.5 sacks against the Jets, marking the 16th game of his career that he has finished with multiple sacks. Those 16 multi-sack games tie for third in the NFL since his rookie season (2006).

I think our Dline is doing very good with Bunkley and Thomas in the middle, with Warren and Vickerson on IR,Ayers and Doom are solid on the edges,Harvey is a solid backup,we could use some depth tho,in later rounds,I think we go CB and RB in the first 2 rounds,if we don’t go QB.
    Just my opinion of course.

This Defense is a couple players away (secondary)from being great, imo!

Tebow’s 4th qtr game winning drive against the Jets was only the fourth comeback the jets have allowed under Rex Ryan, and the first since 12/20/2009.

  5. brian_schneider says:

BeastFromEast92: I do agree with you but even in the 4-3 I still think we need a dominant force in the middle of the D-line, someone like Suh that requires a double team.

  6. Broncownage says:

    @brian_schneider

Yeah, I agree with you. Although our D-line has improved greatly, we still need a guy that can create major problems for the opposing O-line. However, like Beast said, our secondary definitely needs the most work.

I’ve been extremely impressed by how much how our D has improved over just one season! I can’t wait to see what it’s going to look like next year with a (hopefully) improved secondary! Keep it VonDoom!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!

first critics say tebow cant win then he wins and now they say he cant keep winning. well if i was them i would just let the season play out before i put my emphesis on what tebow is going to do. lots of stupid analysts are putting there foot in thier mouth. some people want him to fail so bad that they refuse to open there eyes and see tebow is the man. and can win alot of games and will only get better.

  8. millerqbkiller says:

i love what the defense is doing right now doomervil is starting to play great and von holy crap he is good. i think with one more defensive draft we could be amazing. I orderd a customized denver hoodie with miller 58 on the back im stoked to get it and rep von everywhere.

I read your reponse on Richardson BFE – thx.
Agree that he will go alot sooner than Ingram did.
    One can dream right…lol.

We already have a bruising short yardage running back. He just happens to play QB right now. Hopefully that changes next year.

    Yo ELway,

Keep your lame comments to yourself. In case you haven’t noticed we are playing for a playoff berth, so instead of crushing your young QB’s confidence maybe you can act like your behind him. We all know that every player is week to week in the NFL. Are scared that Tebow will steal some of your Denver Thunder? Are you scared that Tebow will open some steakhouses or some car dealorships?
Tebows first 8 game stats are better than Elways, and the expression on his face during Tebow’s Jet’s comeback spoke a thousand words. You traded B. Lloyd, and you keep harping on Tebow’s completion percentage. Most of Tebow’s passes have been deep because Fox is paranoid about Turnovers. Fox has also told Tebow to throw the ball away alot. So Tebow is following orders, and you keep blasting him. You don’t fool me Elway. Your the sheriff in Town in Denver, and there is no way that you want Tebow to steal your thunder. Karma is an equalizer, and I for one will never step foot in your Elway resturant again until you start keeping your mouth shut, and letting us fans enjoy this ride. Hey why don’t you DO YOUR JOB and find us some players for our playoff push. Detroit finds Kevin Smith rb, and Dallas find Laurent Robinson wr. Who have we found lately? But we have lost E. Riley, and B. Lloyd. So enough lame comments, and please do your job for this current season please.

  12. CurtOU says:

Hahaha, that was the funniest post I’ve ever read dude.

Hey Dillo… How ’bout you tell us how you REALLY feel? ;o)

That was well written… I don’t necessarily agree, but I do have to say I see your point and give you Kudo’s… (Plus HATED to see Eron go… I was begging to see him activated the first 7 games…)

    ***This Just In***

Jeebus has bequeathed upon Tebow the vision to see Philips coming off the edge, neutralizing SD’s pass rush and making the Read Option a Huge Staple this week…

Tebow Throws for 250+ and DMT gets a long one!

Very well said armadillo_orton!!! Elway has been ticking me the hell off lately, Tebow is a very strong willed human being (emphasize on human). No matter how much this warrior says hes not letting it get to him but instead using it as ammunition, we all know that only lasts to an extent, and to top it all off…………………its coming within our organization!!! Elway keep your damn mouth shut and let this season pan out, i am more excited about the Broncos then i have ever been and thats the truth!!! Please dont ruin this for me, you seem to be the only person (with some odd bronco fans to follow) that does not enjoy our winning streak! Words of encouragement please…Tebow has had enough to deal with, he does not need it coming from upstairs also!!!!

  16. broncos58 says:

    @armadillo_orton
I agree with most of what your saying. I think he needs to support Tebow more. Why do we hire coaches? To coach and develop players of course! So why is it that every other QB get a chance to develop and grow but Tebow doesn’t get time to. NFL QB is hard to learn. Maybe we need real coaches who remember what it was like to coach a player up. Coaching 101. Fortunately we are winning while he learns and develops his passing game. Not many teams can say that with a young QB. Look at the Browns, Jags, Rams, Vikings, Bills, Panthers, Dolphins, the list just goes on. Most of those teams have had QB’s over the years that have “thrown the ball better or with more accuracy” but have struggled to win. I hate the Raiders but I’ll leave Bronco nation with this… JUST WIN BABY- AL DAVIS

  17. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Guys…

Elway is being Political… can you imagine the pressure Johnny Boy is under here…

If he fully endorses Tebow it is also a silent endorsement of McD… which means that he is second guessing Bowlen etc…

He is being smart, and looking at this from all angles… He is giving Tebow the chance to play into a starting role, and I guarantee that the horse tooth grin we saw when Tebow scored from 20 out was very genuine…

Fox did what was best for the team in starting Orton, as after the abbreviated practice Orton was the most functional guy… Wanna talk about a locker room issue… Orton’s boy Lloyd had to go… plus we were lacking mid round picks plus he was a free agent after this season etc. etc..

These guys are sitting on a Nitro Keg, and so far have kept it from rocking, dropping or exploding for any reason…

Don’t get down on Elway… he loves this Franchise and WINNING… He led the Crush to a Championship as an Exec so let’s give him at least a year as well… please…

    VON TEBOW FOOTBALL!!!

  18. Bronco_Turtle says:

Plus he did bring in VON… that’s worth a little something…

  19. RH709 says:

    Spot on Miller.
The critics built the hype by making bold, broad encompassing statements.

Let the kid play. We will either win games or lose games but at the end of the season the picture will be a little more clear than it is today or was 5 weeks ago.

Normally I say give ANY kid a few years cause the QB position takes time to get a hold of, whether your “NFL ready” or not.

  21. BRONCOSorBUST15 says:

When Skip Bayless read Elways comment to Tebow, it broke my heart. I heard a little bit conformity in his voice, like he was thinking, “wow all i do is win yet i cant even win over one of my own organizational leaders”.
To top it all off when Skip was proclaiming, basically stating it as fact that Tebow will not be here next year. I couldnt do anything but cover my ears. Its the worst thought i can possibly think at the moment, no just because its Tebow but also because we are winning and i havent felt like this for a while, and yet i feel like there is still so much bitterness within the organization for almost no apparent reason. If Tebow gets traded (which i pray to God doesnt happen) Then i hope he gets traded within our conference or even division, because when he turns full circle into what most of us know he can be and is being right now. I want Denver (as much as i love this organization) to get a taste twice a year what we let go of!!! Which i dont think will happen because i believe that we will be wise and keep this future champion to ourselves!!!

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

And can we please make a distinction between Accuracy and Completion Percentage…

Being smart with the ball does affect the completion percentage and is acceptable…

Over throwing a wide open tight end by 10 feet when he has a 5 yard cushion is an accuracy issue and does need to be addressed… Bay hit it right on the head, and the guy is throwing more often than not from the pocket off his back foot… 8 starts… 8 starts… watch Peyton’s first 8 starts and then tell me that it doesn’t take time to settle in…

Tebow is the Man… and the Broncos are headed for great things…

All Hail Von Tebow Football!!! ;o)

  23. Bronco_Turtle says:

Skip Bayless is a nitwit… I can’t stand the guy, especially on the ESPN 30 for 30 about SMU… He makes it sound like he single handedly brought down the whole show while working for the local paper…

Let’s hope he’s wrong… I can’t believe for a second that they won’t keep Tebow… and I can only think of about 3 guys I’d have more confidence in as my QB right now (Rodgers, Brees, Brady… that’s it, I believe in TT)

You can’t have VON TEBOW football without a TEBOW!!!

    FTC…

  24. BRONCOSorBUST15 says:

Thank you Bronco_Turtle, I really needed to hear this! Being 17 years old, i have honestly latched on to Tebow, One of if not the most encouraging, inspiring, motivating, charismatic person i have ever seen in my life, and i am thankful that the Denver Broncos my favorite organization in the world was blessed to have stumbled upon this person, and to hear that Tebow would most likely be gone by next year enrages me and honestly depresses me a little bit.! My friends and family say i get a little to wrapped up in the NFL and Broncos football, maybe they are right, but to have a person like Tim Tebow in our league and on our team, its very hard not to be, but i was still wrapped up in it pre-Tebow….just saying!!!

    BoB15

  25. baylinorcrush says:

    Mission accomplished, thanks Gray.

About Elway, as much as many fans here seem outraged over his lack of endorsement of Tebow long term, have any of you giving it the thought that he is just telling exactly how he feels about the whole thing, that he hasn’t found the long term QB yet, he is not saying it might not be Tebow, in essence he is just saying the decision hasn’t been made yet, and the long term Bronco QB might or might not be on this roster now, at least that’s what it sounds like, he is being truthful and I respect that and sorry to the Tebow fans who can’t take it, just hope Tebow keeps winning and improving and then maybe Elway will tell you what you want to hear, but for now Elway is looking at it exactly how I am:

    Not sure yet.

Or maybe he is not truthful and he already has someone in mind who could be that someone, and that’s a distinct possibility too, and in this case you guys are totally justified for screaming at Elway now for your boy Tebow because you wait to do so and it will be too late, LOL.

The only sure thing we know at this point is Elway does not think Tebow is equipped as is to be the man yet, and I’m fine with that.

Prove him wrong Tim is your only option as it has been your entire career, the NFL is no different.

  26. killerkod says:

I too think Elway is just calling it as he sees it at this point. He’s not ready to annoint TT as the franchise QB. What’s wrong with that? He hasn’t said Tim Tebow will not be the future QB of the Denver Broncos. He simply just doesn’t know yet.

Would you all rather he come out and say TT is our future when he isn’t sure, only to see him turn around and go in another direction? That would be much worse in my eyes.

TT is getting an opportunity to play right now………and that’s all he needs to focus on. He can’t be worried or threatened about what might happen next year.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

And Skip is saying nothing new, lots of folks have said all along the long term starting QB for the Broncos is not on the roster yet.

That ought to make watching the rest of the season that much more interesting no matter what side of the fence you’re on, LOVE IT, BRING IT ON TEBOW, TAKE US TO THE PLAYOFFS!

That probably would mean second mission accomplished, LOL.

  28. Atwater4HOF says:

I completely agree Bay. I can’t fault Elway for his comments. Especially when I do not know if Tebow is our long term answer yet. Way too early to tell.

When Elway was interviewed before the Jets game he had nothing but praise for Tebow. He said he’s a winner and makes the players around him better. It’s amazing the flack Elway has been taking for answering the difficult questions with honesty.

  29. Bronco_Turtle says:

RePost off of CNNSI… This made me laugh a little…

    Nick D15 hours ago

The better question to Elway would have been: Did Stanford’s loss to Oregon diminish your Andrew Luck man-crush?

  30. bfree2bronc says:

    @Bay:

That was the longest sentence I’ve ever read…

“About Elway, as much as many fans here seem outraged over his lack of endorsement of Tebow long term, have any of you giving it the thought that he is just telling exactly how he feels about the whole thing, that he hasn’t found the long term QB yet, he is not saying it might not be Tebow, in essence he is just saying the decision hasn’t been made yet, and the long term Bronco QB might or might not be on this roster now, at least that’s what it sounds like, he is being truthful and I respect that and sorry to the Tebow fans who can’t take it, just hope Tebow keeps winning and improving and then maybe Elway will tell you what you want to hear, but for now Elway is looking at it exactly how I am:

    Not sure yet”.

Yet, everything you said is exactly true. Tebow fans don’t want to come to terms, all they see is that the “TEAM” is winning right now and somehow, someway, Tim Tebow is the ultimate responsible party for making it happen. Granted he has that persona that holds people’s attention, but what people have to realize is, our defense is now healthy and playing top 10 football right now and it coincidentally coincided with Tebow taking the reins…

  31. baylinorcrush says:

I’ll put in a few more periods next time, LOL.

  32. broncoduckfan says:

I lived in Denver when they first acquired the rights to Elway. I remember the tremendous hype including “The Elway Watch” where John couldn’t even go shopping because it was so closely scrutinized by the public and the media. One thing about Elway stands out above all others, Elway absolutely MUST WIN! The story was once told that he bought a brand new pool table, practiced dilligently and invited another Bronco over for a “friendly game.” After John lost, he immediately got rid of the table! Say that to say this, John has one overriding concern, bring winning tradition back to Mr. Bowlen. If that means Tebow time, so be it. If it means next year’s draft, so be it.
