Improving With Every Opportunity

November 3rd, 2011 - 11:56am by Max Henson

Two weeks ago, safety Rahim Moore was replaced in the starting lineup by fellow rookie Quinton Carter.

This week, Carter is recovering from a concussion he suffered against the Lions and Moore is prepared to return to the starting lineup.

“We gave Quinton Carter an opportunity, and when Quinton went down, Rahim got another opportunity,” Head Coach John Fox said. “We feel very good about both of them. They’re both rookies that improve with every opportunity they get.”

Sunday’s game in Oakland is just that – another opportunity for Moore to prove himself.

And it was his recent removal from the starting lineup provided added motivation to get better and served as a reminder that he can handle adversity.

“Nothing’s going to be easy,” Moore said. “You’re going to go through some trials and tribulations, but it shows you how tough you are, how much you love the game and how much you want to help win. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on the field, the sidelines — it doesn’t matter what the case is — you can help in some way, and I try to get better every day and keep a positive attitude around here, because that’s what we need.”

When asked which areas of his game need improvement, Moore answered: “everything.”

The young safety said he thrives on film sessions, where he can see and correct his mistakes, and he insists his workmanlike approach won’t change — regardless of his role from week to week.

“I’m one of those guys that stays hungry; I always stay with a chip on my shoulder,” Moore said. “I’ve had previous situations when I was younger where people told me I’d never be anything in life, and look where I am now.

“I give it all I got in situations like this.”

Continuing the discussion from last post . . .

Why would you call putting in a 3 wideout set, “adapting the offense for Tebow”?

Two other teams in the league, that have quarterbacks that have been sacked many times, and at times hold the ball far too long, went to singleback formation with 2 TE’s and 2 WR’s. It has done wonders for their passing games.

That is Philidelphia and Chicago. I do not think that Tebow needs more WR’s out there. He needs more protection, and easier reads. That would be ideal.

    Orangemnm,

hit the nail on the head, easier reads more protection and if D’s want to sack the box and bring the blitz run some screens.

I think there are many approaches to fix or alleviate the hardship Tebow is going with … what I do know is that we have been using the same cookie cutter crap. Not adapting enough. Trying the same thing over and over … sure some of it is on TT but its also on the coaches … you are not a coach if you say “This is the only way we do things, if u cannot do it this way then you need to find another team and we will keep searching for people who can do it this exact way” … its like my way or the highway type stuff … gotta adapt and bring out the best in your player I think. Thats why they pay them the big bucks … not to just try to squeeze him into their way of doing things. Square peg round hole … or is it the other way around. TRB

You also need DT and Willis to not quit trying to get open if Tebow has to scramble for more than 3 seconds. It will take a coach who can say with all professionalism that it is ok to improvise.

Willis has done this some but DT runs his route and then just jogs around. Watch Deck – runs his route and then heads for open ground at top speed. Deck usually

  6. daddybronc says:

Deck usually is open about the time Tebow is being tackled.

TRB, I think you hit it on the head. You don’t always get to pick the players you have but you still have to try and coach them to THEIR maximum performance, not to fit your system. What they are doing now doesn’t seem to be working so why not change and try something new? What are you going to do, loose? Tebow plays well on the move so move him, not every play but often enough so the defense can’t set their sights on a spot in the backfield knowing he will be there. That is what they were doing to Orton and that helped him get smacked around all over the field. Orton doesn’t have Tebow’s mobility so why try and make him an Orton? Doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense under the present circumstances!

Hey guys just checking after a bit of a hiatus. The Tebow madness has gotten to be a little much for me. I really started detesting it after the Tebowing started going on, and shortly after that we had that big loss against Detroit and the airwaves were just filled with how terrible of a player he is. The one thing I know is that because of who he is as a person he gets so much attention and a lot of folks want to define him by whatever his last game is. The funny thing is, because he was predicted to be a failure he somehow gets less time to become an NFL quarterback then the folks who are deemed NFL ready. The whole situation is just so unfortunate. The best thing that could’ve happened for Tim would have been Kyle winning some games early this season, because learning by fire is going to kill his career when you couple it with all the media scrutiny. At least in Denver. Unless he drastically improves as a passer next week, I think his time will be cut short and ultimately we’d end up drafting a quarterback in 2012. I know Bay’s been saying that for awhile but I didn’t want to believe it. Now I don’t what to believe or even what I want to believe. We are a proud franchise and this team and the community are sick of being losers. Whatever we can do to fix that I am all for. Maybe Tim will show the organization something they feel they can build on and we bring in a veteran from somewhere, but I don’t see it. Tim’s only chance is for Tim to get better and FAST. Klis said something similar. I’m definitely not counting him out yet, I want him to succeed and help this team succeed. But man I did not expect things to be quite this bad.

I have believed for some time that Tebow will be gone after this year, one way or the other. He isn’t what they want, they didn’t draft him, and they seem to be having problems coaching him to play “their” way. I don’t think Denver will be in a position to draft Luck without giving away the farm, the ranch, the stadium and about half of the city so I think they will end up with Jones from Oklahoma or Barkley from USC. One or the other should be there when the Broncos draft, which according to the NFL would be about 6 or 7 at this point. The question to be answered is what kind of team will be around them. There are holes just about everywhere so it will be interesting to see how they go about patching them up to keep their “franchise” QB in one piece long enough to win some games.

I was at the game last week and it was brutal to watch and disheartening. I stayed through the last play and was cheering my Broncos on, even though it was a very pathetic outing. You gots to dance with the one you brung so we need to ride Tebow until he gets better or proves he is not the one. People behind me were chanting for Quinn. That’s the last thing we need is fans yelling to have another quarterback change. I have faith that we will get better and take the Broncos 20 to 19 over the Faders.

Ok I haven’t been on here speaking for awhile because life has just been way too busy, but I do have to ask this question…… What happened to all of the screen passes we use to run every other play for the past 3 years?? Hahahaha!! Beast what’s up my SEC bro?! Big game for my Tigers this Saturday huh!

  12. josephjjp69 says:

Henry: similar to what i posted earlier. If we give everything for luck or get another qb will we be able 2 still draft for more positions that we need more than anything. I hope tebow works out so we can get better picks n not waste n e more on qbs

It’s great to hear Rahim is staying level headed through this adversity. It will only make him a better pro in the long run.

I’m glad the coaching staff isn’t afraid to bench a player that’s not QB1. Sends a positive message and sets the tone for being serious about turning this franchises fortunes around. Through hard/committed work.

I wonder how Irving and Mohammed are progressing?

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

caramelloo….good luck to your Tigers bro!

Did I mention I hate Alabama!!!

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

sndvl….either Irving isn’t progressing very well or he is a bust, the #1 ranked ILB in the draft,I had big hopes for him, maybe he pans out tho!
If not another wasted draft pick!!!
Mohamed was looking pretty good in pre season, who knows, maybe Mays is playing so good they don’t wanna replace him!!!

  16. BeastFromEast92 says:

Oh yeah, glad McFadden is out, that will help our run Defense, maybe we can slow down their passing game, considering Palmer sucked last week, but our pass D has been making average QBs look like Pro Bowlers this year!!!

    F.T.R.

  17. caramelloo says:

Thanks Beast, you and I both hate Bama.

I Dennis Allen to bring the blitz more this week and bring more disguises. Thats one reason I was so happy and amped up when we got him bc Sean Payton and Greg Williams do an awesome job of disguising their packages. Dennis Allen learned from them and needs to start taking more chances.

We should’ve had more pressure on Stafford especially since he was dealing with a bum heal. We need to be like sharks on D and attack when we sense blood.

I will be at this weeks game with my wife :)

I went back and rewatched the 1st half of last weeks game. To be honest, Tebow didn’t make a bad decision or throw a bad pass until about 6 minutes into the second quarter. Yet his stats at the time were something like 2 of 9. It wasn’t until he had been hit from behind for the 4th or 5th time that he started to get jittery before pressure even arrived.

Orlando had gotten beat multiple times, his feet arn’t quick enough in pass protection. If the DE lines up wide he gets the first step to the outside and rounds the corner before Orlando even has a chance. He is beat from step one.

Denver never gave Orlando help by using a RB to chip the DE while running for the flat or by using a TE to chip the DE before running a quick out or slant.

This same problem was happening to Orton when he was playing but it wasn’t as devistating cause it wasn’t his blindside.

Either way this is a coaching problem. They are not adjusting or adapting. They are certainly not helping their players succeed.

Moreno looked decent in the first half blocking, catching and running. He still needs to learn better vision, patience, and how to just cut and go. He really does try to fight for yards but just doesn’t have the size.

Anyway, what I am getting at is that players aren’t getting utilized to the best of thier abilities. From Tebow on down to Franklin. The scheme is not working and defenses have caught onto it in a big way.
