Improving Upon Inconsistencies

November 24th, 2008 - 5:29pm by Jake Grilley

The Broncos locker room was fairly quiet on Monday.

Although the day marked the start of a new week, this weekend marks a tough road contest at New York against the Jets, the team was still trying to gather itself after Sunday’s disappointing 31-10 home loss to the Oakland Raiders.

In his post-game interview Ebenezer Ekuban called the flow of the team’s contest against the Raiders “a little bizarre.”

“But there are ebbs and flows about every game,” Ekuban admitted. “You just have to take it as-is.”

It seemed whatever way the ebbs were ebbing and the flows were flowing, Denver was swimming against the current versus Oakland.

One statistic that highlights the Broncos inability to catch a break was the fact that although the team had 21 first downs, they only finished the game with 10 points on the scoreboard.

Brandon Stokley said that stat can be attributed to lack of execution.

“That is the problem,” he said. “You kind of scratch your head at that. It comes down to mistakes. Anytime you have that many first downs and you only have 10 points there has to be a lot of mistakes.”

If there is a lesson that can be taken away from Sunday’s loss, it is that sometimes the teams taking the field on Sundays aren’t necessarily that same ones that marched out the week before. In the NFL where parity runs rampant and clubs are constantly trying to exploit each other’s weaknesses and highlight their own strengths – teams are often consistently inconsistent.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan said that type of inconsistent play from teams is something he tries to prepare for.

“I kind of anticipated that happening,” he said. “If you take a look at the stats, you get teams that match up better against certain teams. You just really don’t know what the team’s strengths and weaknesses are. A lot of times, teams have different injuries from one game to the next so you have to expect the unexpected.”

Shanahan said the Broncos can learn from their inconsistencies, taking away the positives and improving upon the mistakes.

“I think it shows of what we are capable of doing on both sides of the ball,” he said “We capable of beating a good football team on the road and we are also capable of losing. If we don’t make the plays that we normally make, sometimes we end up beating ourselves and sometimes they beat us.”

So how do the Broncos become a more consistent team?

“We’ve just got to play better,” Shanahan said.

We just have to play better is an understatement. I think that the Whole Raider game was poorly done by players and coaches. We were way to conservative early on, we shouldn’t be running the ball that much with 4th and 5th string RB’s. Throw more over the middle to Scheffler and Stokley, and how is it that the D-Line couldn’t get one sack against the RAIDERS!!! Are you kidding me, this has been one of the worst offensive lines in the league, and we couldn’t get even one sack. We should be ashamed of this last performance and quickly look to redeem ourselves against the on fire Jets team. We need to either start playing better up front, or we need to make some real acquisitions on the D-Line.

  2. MileHighMagic08 says:

Let’s face it we got embarrassed, again. Clady was incredible, Cutler had an insane run, one that not many qbs in the league could duplicate. He had some bad throws as well. We have plenty of picks in next years draft we should trade up and get a d-lineman or a complete new d-line. The season is not over but we need to be more consistent. Inconsistency comes along with youth so there are great things to be expected out of this young team. Let’s go get the Jets.

  3. spentonbargains says:

We need 2 huge safeties in the draft next year

  4. jamipapi1 says:

‘Da season is over !! If we make the playoff we’ll get embarrased and be home the first game. 2009 needs to be better or Shanny has to go !!!!

  5. go cutler says:

just think that first drive was good until the turnover just never been able to understand why we dont run the option more i think it would bring the safety up so we could hit the te down the field we let cutler bring us back against the browns but didnt let him loose yesterday let jay win games for us mike better play calling will help quit throwing deep to marshall . your better off throwing screen passes to hillis then throw deep to royal. throw to both sides of the field we gave 21 to much credit challenge the cb no matter what we have the recievers. jay dont ever give up and nomatter what happens on the field just be yourself and have fun. i still believe in this team . go broncos

  6. Broncosfanatic4 says:

Although this team is better offensively the D will still stink until we get a nasty presence in the middle. Whether it be a DT, a MLB or a FS. However all of these are a position of need on this team, and before we can really seriously think about being contenders or even in the playoffs we will have to fill these needs on D. I do however have no blame for the players on the team for yesterdays lose to the Raiders they all played their butts off with the plays that were called. The blame lies solely on Mike Shannahan for not calling any other plays other than throw a fly pattern deep now run the draw, throw it deep again now run the draw again. This type of play calling continued for the remainder of the game. It seems that the only half time corrections we had were that the players needed to execute the plan well they did only problem was the Raiders plan was a better plan than ours. Mike got outcoached hands down he got his butt kicked by a new coach because he was afraid to go all out on him, instead Shanny tried to feel him out this game and win it like that. I say boo and poor show Shannahan. A plus to the players effort this time, A big flat F for Shanny and the crew.

  7. jmonk says:

i think we were still in it till maunual tripped mcfadden, that guy needs to get off the field he gets torched by every1. after watching him yesterday i am now a beliver we need to bring in barret, whatever is wrong with the guy hes not gonna get burnt game after game by tes and his 40 tim was close to mcfaddens also, not sayin he woulda caught him but he probly wouldnt have fallen down like an idiot to disguise that he was beat you see dre bly do it in the new england game against moss to and moss barely touched him and he just fell over

  8. G funk says:

The simple fact we got out played. when we turn the ball over we loose all momentem in the game. and we just never get it back. We loose any consistancy. The thing that make me mad is when we do the same play over and over. With no result. Always going for the big play instead of the easy one. With that said we are still in first place im not losing hope with the team when the team doesn’t turn the ball over we win.

  9. BroncoBoyest95 says:

haha fall down like an idiot he fell down against atlanta, remember when ryan threw it up 2 roddy white in the final seconds off the game!!!!

  10. del30 says:

what Can a person even say after that game yesterday, there was absolutely no game plan, coaches are horrible at play calling, every pass was a bomb, defense was terrible, not like they haven’t been all year, a few players play with heart every game and that is the only reason we have even won the games we have the rest don’t even deserve to play in the NFL , poor coaches and poor playing equal what happened yesterday and many other games this year, inconsistency sad sad sad, I feel sorry for all the fans that bought tickets yesterday and the broncos should anny up some of that money they are making but don’t deserve and pay the fans back, I compare our play sometimes to the worst in the nfl, I have one word for yesterday……………………PATHETIC

  11. Broncomania56 says:

Again, there is not one person to blame for yesterday’s loss. This was a Team LOSS.

I wonder if they all had the flu or something? It’s so crazy that we loose to a team we beat like red-headed step children at the beginning of the season. This is obviously a sign that this team needs to grow and mature a little more. They have no idea what it takes yet to be winners. Although they have the talent, they do not respect what it takes to win in the NFL. As they mature they will grow, however for many of us who have watched the Broncos for years, we have become spoiled and impatient. Our Defense needs a total make-over, and offense needs a new attitude.

This team will produce in the future, however now they are still trying to figure things out. Keep your heads on guys, Rome wasn’t built in a day. I know it’s disgusting to watch this week in & week out, however one day soon this will pay off. Lot’s of injuries, lot’s of young guys playing. Broncos will prevail, don’t abandon ship just yet. Go Broncos!!!!!

  12. 831_Broncos_Fan says:

im still with the broncos no matter what!!!!!!!!!!

  13. BroncoOrdie0730 says:

I am so sick and tired of all you so called fans out there who bash our team when they lose, yes this was an embarrassing loss and we looked like a high school team out there losing at home to the faiders. most of you love this team when they win but bash them when they lose, last time i checked we have not had a perfect season yet we still have two superbowl rings. STOP THE BASHING! Shanny is our coach, he has done great things with this team and will continue to do so. Cutler is our future. yes he tries to force some things but will calm down with time. if you don’t recall. the great one (Elway) did the same thing. As for the play calling, we need to run more. we are a running team and have gotten away from that and it has cost us some games. we can manage the clock alot better and then our play action is more effective. you can’t have play action without a run game. The majority of this team is young and will be around for a long time. we have a ton of injuries and have many new faces stepping up and playing. I hate to see us lose too and was sick to my stomach watching the game but i’m a TRUE FAN and keep with my team through the ups and downs. We may not make the super bowl this year but making the playoffs would be huge for this young team, even if it’s one game and then again, come playoff time teams change, so you never know what to expect.
Keep the faith fans and support this team no matter what.
    Bleeding Blue and Orange.
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  14. 07elway says:

Broncomania56 – glad to know there’s another person around here that gets the picture, that this loss and every loss is on the TEAM’s shoulders not just one person be it a player and/or coach. Very good blog my friend.

Its obvious around here that whenever we lose people just love to come on here and just completely bash this team. But it sounds more like to me that alot of people on here are just ready to give up. Since when does giving up do us any good? You saw what happened yesterday when people give up… we lose. Now is not the time to be giving up on this team. Now is when they need us and our unconditional support more than ever. If they can’t have our support during the most ugly of games, then they must not need it when they’re doing good b/c then why would they need us fans cheering them on? That makes no sense…. these guys deserve our support win, lose and very ugly games like yesterday. If you are a true blue Bronco fan you will not even think about giving up on this team.

I can’t say this enough and I won’t till alot of you get the picture.
Have some faith… it will do you good and the TEAM!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

  15. broncofannsd says:

Broncomania56 – great blog! Way to stay positive and support your team.

del30 – what’s sad is your negativity towards this team. No doubt yesterday sucked, but have a little faith and support your team. It’s a young team and yesterday was a perfect example of their inexperience and lack of maturity, so be patient.

Leaving the game early and not showing support is pathetic. You can’t only be a fan when they win. This team and the players have a great future.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  16. R@iderH@ter_777 says:

I agree with miss, what in god’s name is this team thinking taking players from Detriot?(who are 0-11) I think we need to get rid of Bly who couldnt defend my baby cousin and get rid of slowik. You traded bates for slowik? I think that move alone needs to start opening people’s eyes that Shanahan is done and is nothing with Elway. In order for this team to be good again we need a new Qb who doesn’t put his head up his ass in the winter, a hole new coaching staff who actually knows what they are doing, new safteys and a new weak side corner, a new D-line(Dumervil sucks, there i said) and can we plaese find a running game. WAY TO MANY HOLES THAT NEED FILLIN. It kinda pisses me off that we will make the playoff’s at 8-8 or 7-9. Why? Bescuase who ever we play will blow us up and outta the water and to be honset im tired of seeing that happen. Way to go Shanahan, you are really the an offensive genius aren’t you trading in Plummer for Cutler. WOW. You went from super bowl contenders to hopefully having a .500 year the moment Cutler took the feild. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  17. broncfan21 says:

R@iderH@ter_777 the Broncos did play horrible yesterday but we are a young team only a few players on our offense have more than three years in the league…….face it we are makin young misteaks. the Broncos have great things to come. but as for now we cant go and blame every player who doesnt have a great game every week. And Elvis dummervil does not suck that guy has been our biggest lineman this year and he has had a hand injury that hurts his technique. and teams have really only had big running games up the middle they usually dont get anything to the outside.

Our young team didnt understand that in rivalry games we have to throw out records but im willing to bet that next year when the Raiders come to Mile High they will get what they should every year.

Don’t lose faith its not over till its over
    KEEP FIGHTIN BRONCOS!!!!

  18. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I am not one of those fake Bronco fans as I love my team come hell or highwater, but I just want a little more consistency. Of course this is a young team loaded with potential and excellent talent so I’ve got to expect progress to come incrementally. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to a victory over the New York Bretts. John Madden’s stupid mancrush will wish he were back in Kiln, Miss. playing sandlot football like he does in those retarded Wrangler commercials. GO BRONCOS!!! We true fans (such as 831 right above me) love you and will support you in good times and bad. Of course, more good than bad awaits. I love this team!!!

  19. English Orange says:

Cant believe some people think we would be better off with Plummer over Cutler!!! You guys must need your head testing! Cutler is one of the outstanding young QB’s about and will be great.

Yes Sunday was terrible but with Jay, Clady, Harris, Marshall, Royal, Hillis, Torain etc the offence will be fine for years. ‘D’ is the main problem and we MUST draft a stud D-lineman, safety or MLB……..and probably sack Slowik!

  20. egybronco says:

I hate to say it, but I saw this loss coming, but ill be honest I didnt see the Broncos getting blownout by 21 to the Raiders at home. Its pretty simple the Broncos this year are about as inconsistent as I have ever seen them. Good teams in the NFL beat who their supposed to beat and win about 70% of their tough games. Some of the Denver Broncos losses this year are just sad and killing Bronco fans pride all around the world, when your the only team the Kansas City Chiefs have beat, your one of the three teams the Raiders have beat and your one of the four teams the Jaguars have beat, one can only come to the conclusioin that the Denver Broncos are a bad footaball team that lack consistency, discipline, profesionalism and heart. Mile High has become quite and sad and the fans dont help, about 65% of the fans couldnt care less if the Broncos win or lose, and it shows the Broncos have lost their last 3 home games (Jags, Fins and Raiders) and are 3-3 on the season. If the Broncos would’ve won those games and they should’ve had they not turned the ball over so much and came out flat, we the fans would be enjoying a 9-2 record with the second seed in the AFC in sight, instead were 6-5 and by no means have the divison wrapped even with the Chargers at 4-7 cause anybody that saw the Raiders game Sunday should be smart enough to know that if the Broncos dont play with some pride and the coaches strart calling better football games we will lose the divison and finish 7-9 or 8-8 and out of the Palyoffs for the third straight year which would be unacceptable.

I will never stop believing the Broncos can win on any given Sunday and that wont change no matter who the opponent or the circumstance. Sunday will be no different I will play out the scenerio in my head all week and see the Broncos winning 27-21, it kills me that we have become a mediocre franchise or on the verge of becoming one. Playoffs are a must this year and anything else would crush Bronco Nation.

  21. brian_schneider says:

I’ll be honest in saying that I’m tired of hearing this every week, we need to work on some things, we need to be more consistent, we need to do this or that or whatever. Stop talking about and do something about it. I don’t care if you tell me your going to win the Super Bowl. Just go out there and do what it is that you do and don’t keep saying you going to do it. I believe that we could win each game left in the season if we just stop saying what we need to do and just do what we need to do.

This is still a young team I must remind myself. We still have a lot more maturing to do. I don’t know about the rest of the fans but I’m ready for something consistent. We also need to get some safeties. Geez, watching the way our safeties play makes me sick. I bet Lynch and Atwater throw up watching how our safeties are playing this season.

  22. broncofannsd says:

One more thing R@iderH@ter_777 and MISSISSIPPI024, there are Charger fans with more devotion and pride than either of you possess. The Chargers have never won a Super Bowl and they still support their team more than you support yours. PATHETIC!!!!!

  23. 831_Broncos_Fan says:

great to see the MILE HIGH SALUTE again :)

  24. jacob33 says:

wow ok we need smoe big ass D line men yes. as for some FS and SS’s
we need Josh B up there at FS cuz hes fast and a good hiter and for SS #33 is ok for line backers we need dj #55 as OSLB. AND # 46 AS ISLB AND FOR THE OTHER OUT SIDE LINE BACKER #59. NOW FOR CB PUT CHAMP IN THERE AND THEN FOR THE OTHER CB put jack in there # 26. as for dry bly get him out of there hes old and a spiled bicth. now for line men put elvis at RE then put are #1 draft pick form last year witch would be moss #94 and he needs to be at LE and put josh at DT #95 and thomas at DT #79 and i think we would have a great D. so goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo broncos and if you were a true bronco fan you wouldent care about if they lose or win there are team and thats all that matters ok.oooo and the seson is not over

  25. nickansas says:

Outcoached, outplayed, just embarrassing. The Raiders, seriously? The reasoning is we have to play better, give me a break Shanny, how ’bout we coach better for a change this year or last year for that matter, or the year before. In fact, how come no one is talking about how much we miss Kubiak calling the plays. He may not have gotten the credit, but it seams fairly obvious how much we need him now.
I love the Broncos, win or lose, however it sure gets old drive after drive with the same play calling. Incomplete on first down, run up the middle for two yards on second, have to convert on third and long. I mean, come on guys, I love this team, but the RAIDERS!?!?!?!?!

  26. brian_schneider says:

I hear Shanny say this a lot, when he sees a guy put forth a lot of effort he will give him a chance to show what he’s got. I’m not saying I’m not an effort guy. I think that if someone is working his butt off and making great strides both mentally and physically he should get a chance to show what he’s got. However sometimes you need to go for talent more than effort. Our safeties specifically come to mind. Those guys do put forth the effort and play hard, but they just don’t demonstrate the talent, that say Lynch possessed. Lynch had the natural talent to find the ball, and make big hits and provide great run support. Our safeties now just don’t seem to have that natural talent. Maybe it is time to see what Barrett has to show, I don’t know. I know we have been doing some great things and some bad things.

I’m glad to see the Mile High Salute again but our main goal should be to get the ball in the endzone not fumble it. Also I don’t know if Hillis knows the significance that the salute means. I’m not saying he is bad or anything like that but look who’s all used it. Davis, Smith, Elway, Sharp, MaCaffery, the leaders the guys who play with heart and determination. That’s what the salute is about, not just getting a touchdown. Sorry for just random ranting.

Bust Farve in the chops and make him wish he’d stayed retired. Go Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. brian_schneider says:

“Favre”, geez he spells his name funny.

  28. LBWilson56 says:

Listen,i love the broncos too now and forever but lets understand this, short and sweet:DRE BLY IS THE MOST OVERRATED CORNER IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL AND HE HAS TO GO!!!!!!Until then, this is what we have to live with.

  29. LBWilson56 says:

    DRE BLY HAS TO GO!!!!!

  30. acermack says:

WE NEED TAYLOR MAYS FROM USC OR MALCOLM JENKINS FROM OSU!!!

    WHO AGREES WITH ME???

  31. hrdnokd says:

I’ve seen it a couple of times, and many of you are right. We need a thumper some where in the middle of the defense. I don’t care where it comes from but SOMEONE needs to be nasty. We don’t have ANY of those guys right now. The rookie looks like he could be a gutsy player in the middle, but I don’t know if I’d say he’s an impact LB or not. Yes, Bly is AWFUL, plain and simple. I’d rather take my chances with one of the rookies from this year or next years draft but he has GOT TO GO at the end of the year. Shanny needs to quit trying to pick his DT’s from other teams trash piles, it doesn’t usually work and the Brownie men were magic in a bottle. I’m SO SICK of seeing us blitz ONLY when it’s an obvious passing down, what the hell ever happened to mixing it up out there? The good news is that Barrett appears to be the starting FS this weekend, let’s see if the kid can whack.

  32. acermack says:

actually…rey maualuga, taylor mays, laurunitis, or jenkins would be a good fit. maybe DE jackson from LSU….

we need alot of help on D. Our offense should continue to blossom over the years, but i felt we went the wrong way with our choice for def. cor.

trying to switch up your defense from 4-3 to 3-4 then back to 4-3 is not the way to be consistent in the NFL. here’s the list of players that ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO GO:

1.Dre Bly (so over-rated it makes me sick to my stomach on sundays)
    2. Jarvis Moss (do i even need to explain?)
    3. Marquand Manuel (gets beat every sunday, and cant guard TE’s)
4.Calvin Lowry (OMG this guy…always lookin for the big hit…still looking i think)
    5. you guys may not like this one…but Boss Bailey has to go. Is too injury prone and i believe he is not physical enough. we need to get bigger on D)
    6. Brett kern (what happened to “Sour-Buns”…that guy had a boot)
7.last but not least…John “the motor” Engelbeger (ike i said before…BIGGER, FASTER, AND MORE PHYSICAL)

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK??? BE TRUTHFUL FELLOW DIE-HARDS!!!

AND FEEL FREE TO ADD TO THE LIST…

    -BRANDON

  33. teeoneuptoo says:

I agree with everyone on your list acermack. Why have we seen so little from Moss? Is he really that bad? Inconsistent? I really liked him as a pick but I have yet to see him really perform. Boss has been a joke. Who the “F” is Calvin Lowry anyway? I only know his number because it’s very easy to see as he lays on the field after yet another missed tackle. Bly is an obvious off-season casualty. We need to shut down that Detroit to Denver peipline.

I’d like to address the “real fan vs fair weather fan” issue. Whether we “have faith” or not, these guys suck. Their ability, or lack thereof, is not based on whether or not we believe. It’s been said before, just blindly backing a team becasue I am a fan is ridiculous. I am a fan of my country, but I don’t always agree with how its run. In fact, I have the right to “bash” anyone and everyone in a position of power with whom I don’t agree.

This season is miserable. We are the fans of a once proud professional football franchise. We are allowed to expect better things.

  34. BronxFan87 says:

This week end just showed us how young our team is. we do not have that killer instinct yet. we need to learn how to play harder more physical. The team has to realize we need to stop this show boating and showing up to play when we need to. Please stop show boating out there trust me u havent done sh!t this year believe me except getting lucky. The only were #1 is because AFC west sux this year this is no improvment since last year. Please im not losing faith but man u guys have show up to play every sunday cmon finish strong.GO BRONCOS!!

  35. hrdnokd says:

I don’t want to get rid of Kern, he’s the least of our problems. John is a nice rotation guy, he’s an effort guy, but he looks like his play has really slipped this year. Manuel is a gimme, I know him simply from all the calls against him. Lowry will be gone soon enough. Having said that, we still have 5 games to go to make the playoffs. Someone needs to grab the defense by the throat and start taking control of these guys.

  36. columbusOHbronco says:

I agree with you guys on the ohio state boys. Im a buckeye and would love to see laurinitas or jenkins sporting a bronco jersey. My question is were in the hell is selvin young. we need so much help on d next year but we might be forced to take a rb in the first 2 rounds. shanny is going to have to make some free agent moves and spend some money the draft is not goingt to fix every problem we have. We need 4 big time players nest year, one at rb, d line, mlb and saftey. I think we can get 2 of them in the draft and the other 2 will need to be done in free agency. thats the only way we will be able to compete for a super bowl next year.

  37. blaze-21 says:

have you guys noticed everytime some 1 does the mile high salute we lose maybe cuz were not at the old mile high maybe their was magic with that salute when we had the old stadium i just fount that interesting

  38. Cutlerizer says:

OK, Let me weight in. When the score was Denver 10, Oakland 17, it seems like we panicked. How many bombs did Cutler throw up? I mean, sure, Cutler is awsome and more than a couple of those tosses should have been caught. Yet, and this is my main point. We completely gave up on Hillis and the running game at that point in the game. Hillis was chewing up the Oakland D; he was domolishing Mcfadden in the stats… until we stopped giving him the ball. I felt like the Broncos planned on creaming Oakland from the outset but when it came to being an actual game of smash-mouth football, we weren’t up to the challenge on Sunday. This was indeed a teem loss. But it didn’t need to happen.

Hopefully this week, we won’t completely colapse like we did after loosing to KC earlier in the season. Hopefully we have matured and learned how to bounce back from a dissappointing loss. That is what I’m waiting to see.

  39. broncofannsd says:

This team does not suck. They are a very young team that lacks experience and maturity. Just because you support this team and refuse to bash on the team or the players does not mean you are blindly backing them. There are a lot of bloggers out there that praise this team and the players when they win, but bash this team to no end when they lose. That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Go ahead and say you don’t, but it’s true. Furthermore, if fixing the Broncos inconsistent play is that easy, why don’t we see any of you out there in the NFL getting the job done. There are a lot of great players on this team that have a bright future in the NFL. Give them a chance to grow and mature because most of the “so called” problems this year are due to youth and lack of experience. Our defense hasn’t had any continuity in the coaching staff, so what do you expect.

Bly made some big plays in the past two road games and no one said a negative word about him. However, here we are a week later and many of you are saying get rid of Bly. Bly isn’t the problem. The problem is our lack of pressure on the QB and our lack of a good strong safety. Any QB in this league will tear your DB’s apart if they have all day to throw the ball. Any past and current QB will tell you the same thing. Get off Bly’s back because he’s not the problem. And when did Kern become a problem?

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  40. 07elway says:

    Amen, broncofannsd!!!

That right there by some of you guys saying “this team sucks” – you’re not showing that you’re a true fan. I would never say that and I never have. For those of you who have the nerve and ordasity to say that kind of crap on here – you are the ones that suck mostly at being a “fan”.

And here we go AGAIN – “Bly has to go”, “Prater has to go”, “Kern has to go” – when do you people ever stop????? You never ending nay-sayers are the pathetic ones around here, not the team you keep saying you’re a fan of. And I just find it completely unbelievable that someone said just right after the game or even during on the 4th quarter blogs said we should let Prater go – are you kidding me? He’s not the only kicker in NFL history to ever miss a field goal, heck Elam missed plenty of FGs in his time. What are people smokin’?

Get a grip, have some faith and for the love of God, STOP BASHING THIS TEAM!!!!!!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

this team dont suck by far but there are alot of pieces that need to get fixed to make it a better team.for one we really need a consistent pass rush either from the dline or linebackers untill we get that it wont matter who we got playing corner[not saying i care for bly any more than some of you]we do need saftys in a real bad way but the one thing we need most is a d-cordinatot to stick around for more than one season even if its not slowik[i think ted cottrell is looking for a job].think about it how would you feel if every week you went to work and had a new boss telling you that everything you were doing was wrong and then totally changeing it.

As I sat in the Superdome last nite with my Broncos shirt on at the Packers – Saints game I said to myself, ” There’s no way the Saints Offense is better than ours and there’s no way the Saints fans are better than Bronc fans!!” I say that bc Bronco fans will do what I did and go into some other teams place and show our Bronco pride even if we aren’t playing!

After going to work today and having to deal with fake saints fans it made me appreciate my team even more. Just a few weeks ago saints fans said they were done with the saints for the rest of the year. Today those same fans were screaming saints are gonna be in the superbowl yet they are in last place in their division.

My point is we have to continue to support our Broncs and not be fair weather fans like saints fans! Reading everyones blogs alows me to keep up with my fav team, brag to these sorry a** saints fans about my team, and reminds me why I love the Broncos. Yes we want our team to have our same passion but I guess it just comes with time just like our super bowl wins. Also keep in mind that this is the NFL and unlike college we really can’t judge teams by their record.

I agree with everyone. Everbody makes some great points. the only thing i do not like are the comments we need to get ride of this guy or that guy. true the d has not played up to there potential and the offence is playing so inconsistant. But remember people we have had alot of injured key players this year. I have no dought in my mind if we would had Champ in that game against the Raiders Lelie would have got nothing but that here or there. The fact is we are a young team learning on the fly, and with a young team means mistakes. I think the coaching staff are trying to do whatever they can with what they got. There are some of you talking like the season is over, there lots of football left and we are still in first place. So unless we are knocked out of first place with no chance of the playoff i’m happy with the team we have. Because if we are in anything can happen just look at last years superbowl winner.

    broncofannsd & 07elway,

For the love of God, do not call others on this blog “pathetic” just because they have different point of view.

They have all the rights to express their thoughts – just like you two are expressing blind love to specific player/coach.

Guys and Gals, There are reasons this team is struggling. I don’t agree that “Bly must go”. I believe that Bly, Bailey and the rest of the DB’s are not making plays because the opposing QB has all day to throw the perfect pass. Bly nor Bailey are afforded many opportunities to get an INT due to lack of pressure. There is some major talent on this team! There are components that just aren’t in place quite yet.

Can anyone remember when the last time Bailey had an interception.(Pre-Injury)? I cannot. In fact his interception numbers have declined year after year. No one is screaming to get rid of Champ, Why? Champ is a very special athlete, a rare find. Bly is a good athlete, unfortunately needs the pressure of the D-line to bait opposing QB’s into making mistakes.

I for one was a very harsh critic during the first 2 losses, but have since been able to see what is going on. I love Broncos Football and have since 1979. This team is young and still finding it’s identity. There is a multitude of injuries. The defense will be addressed in the off season. No need for a new defensive coordinator as Slowik is doing the best he can with what he has to work with. In fact as far as defense goes, it is our D-Line that is the cause of our problems. Not enough mass to clog the middle.

I keep hearing “Shanny must go”. No way!!!! Do you all realize he is the one who drafted Clady, Royal, and many more. I believe there is a method to his madness. I believe he was thinking. I can shore up the offense this season, next season the Defense. Our offense has the potential to strike quick, if they remain disciplined. This offensive team has no discipline yet. Cutler, who in my opinion will be one of the greats, is lacking some common sense this year and believes in his arm a little to much. With experience he will settle down, start spreading the ball around and take what opposing defenses give him.

Another problem is we are lacking in our running game. We all know it’s because of injury. No way will Selvin Young return 100%. Sorry to be negative, but groin injuries are very tricky.

Champ, also may not return 100%. I have also had a groin injury. Just when you think it has healed, you turn the wrong way and bang, it’s all she wrote.

My point is this. It is what is. No excuses, the coaches are putting the best they have on field every week. Unfortunately, TEAM CHEMISTRY is not built over night. Not proud of the way this season has turned out, however let’s focus on the bright spots, realize we are still rebuilding and one day we will all look back and say, damn, all that agony we went through was well worth it.

For those of you that have been fans for a very long time, we’ve been here before and it paid off, 3 loosing Super Bowls, 2 history making Super Bowls in which we won. Elway rode off into the sunset a champ.

Everyone here will say it was worth it to loose 3 to get Back to Back titles. Everyone of those teams had to struggle at some point, but with time, support, and encouraging fans the Denver Broncos prevailed as Champs. No one will ever take that away from us.

Hang in there fans, the best is yet to come!!! We are riding a Rocky Mountain Roller Coaster, ( a long ride ) When it stops you will say, wow that was well worth the wait. Go Broncos!!! Beat the JETS!!!!

  46. FireShanahan says:

When did Rogers beat us? Shannon said he didn’t play well. I seen different. When ever a rb got pass the 1st and 2nd level, he made the tackle which shouldn’t ahve happened anyway. Lowry, McCree, and Manuel have taken bad angles or were too slow to catch rbs who broke for long gains all season. Then he cut Abdullah and brought in lowry who hasn’t done anything at all to justify letting Hamza go for him. The young safties would at least learn on the job, whether it’s Barrett, Rodgers, or like someone suggested Woodyard. These guys have not got it right the whole season and they suppose to be veterans. Lowry was terrible his first start for the Broncos and he was a former starter then you cut a young prospect who didn’t make 1 terrible mistake and blamed him for not playing better? Shannon is a joke. He’ll prolly cut Barrett too after his first start. Just admit every safety you brought in this season were bust. I know Lynch was getting old but he knew and i know he could do better than anyone of these guys. Period.

  47. broncofannsd says:

    Great blog Broncomania56! I couldn’t agree more.

Shanny is not a joke! Cutler is and always will be better than Plummer. Cutler will be one of the best in this league, but he needs time to grow and mature just like every other QB that plays this game.

  48. 07elway says:

SCorangenblue – well then stop calling this TEAM pathetic. I’ll stop calling other people on here pathetic when they start getting the picture that this TEAM is not pathetic. If you’re gonna let them get by saying really stupid things about this team, I’m gonna give them a taste of their own medicine. Like so many other people on here would say “I’m entitled to my opinion.” And the way all the nay-sayers are acting on here they are in fact pathetic. Deal with it buddy!

And I’m not expressing “blind love” as you call it to any specific player and/or coach. Yeah I like Cutler but this whole winning a game thing – its a TEAM effort. You cannot possibly (or fairly) put all the blame of a loss on one person’s shoulders and that is exactly what all these nay-sayers on here are doing. Yeah our team has alot of growing up to do but at least they don’t come on here and act like a bunch of immature and pathetic 2 year olds and call each other out – they don’t start calling each other pathetic and saying so and so should be traded b/c he’s human and he made mistakes. The players and coaches deal with this loss… they move on like we all should be doing. I’ve moved on, I’ve forgotten all about last Sunday’s game and I’m ready to see them play in NY.

    Have faith Broncos Country…
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

  49. broncofannsd says:

    Well said 07elway.

SCorangenblue – maybe you should read our blogs again, because neither of us has expressed “blind love” towards this team or the players. Maybe it’s because we see the glass as being half full, or maybe it’s because we refuse to bash on a team that we cheer for year after year. How can you possible cheer and praise the team when they win, yet you bash them to no end when they lose?? I am going to cheer for this player this week because we won, but if we lose and that player has a bad game, he must go. Give me a break. To me, that doesn’t sound like a very devoted fan. If you are going to make comments about us, expect us to return the favor. And as 07elway put it, deal with it.

Tired of talking about last week. It is what it is and we lost.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

    07elway,

My whole point is that you could do better expressing yourself without upsetting other bloggers’ feeling by using appropriate words.

I do not believe that “pathetic”, “stupid”, “taste of their own medicine”, “immature”, “2 years old” are good choice of words from a well-educated man.
