Ihenacho Added to Active Roster

October 30th, 2012 - 11:08am by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos have added safety Duke Ihenacho to the active roster, filling the spot vacated by linebacker Joe Mays’ move to injured reserve.

Ihenacho has been on and off of the team’s practice squad this season after notching six tackles during the 2012 preseason.

He was originally signed to the active roster on Sept. 29 and made his NFL debut against the Oakland Raiders, playing on eight special-teams snaps. He was waived and added back to the practice squad before the team’s Week 6 contest in San Diego.

A college free agent, Ihenacho made 268 tackles (142 solo) with seven interceptions during his 47-game career at San Jose State. He also scored three defensive touchdowns in his career, and became the first Spartan to earn three All-Western Athletic Conference First Team honors.

Filling Ihenacho’s spot on the practice squad is cornerback Mario Butler. Butler spent the 2011 season on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad, and split time between the club’s practice squad and active roster this season.

The 6-foot-1, 187-pound cornerback was originally signed as a college free agent out of Georgia Tech by the Cowboys in 2011.

Welcome Duke Nacho and Mr. Butler!!!

This surprises me. I would’ve thought we’d bring Mohammed up. However, I remember Ihenacho making some plays in preseason so I’m not disappointed, just surprised.

I think the team is more worried about filling May’s role on ST then at MLB. That is why they went with Duke.

MLB will be Brooking then Johnson and in a pinch either irving or Trevathan. Also, D.J. will be back in a after the Bengals game so he will compete for a spot either to backup Woodyard or Brooking.

Welcome Duke! I hope you can prove yourself to permanently stay on our “crush”ing Defense! Joe will be missed, DJ will be back soon I assume. Hopefully Dj will learn from his mistakes and mature from all of these ridiculous situations. You know it is bad when you hear raider fans making fun of DJ’s personal issues! I must say, I am excited about the future of this team, hopefully we can keep continuity within the staff for a few years now.

Hey y’all.  New handle here, as I chose my previous handle as a symbol of Orange pride spreading uncontrollably across the nation, in anticipation of us going back to the Orange jerseys, but it was poor choice of words, and I don’t want any connection to natural disasters..

Despite some serious winds, we were extremely fortunate to have not experienced any flooding, damage, or loss of power. We’re north of the city, and while close to the water, we were sheltered by Long Island.  I know many people who were not so lucky, and I’m doing everything possible to help them. My heart goes out to the loved ones of those who did not survive, as well as those who were negatively effected by this storm, and I hope those without power get it back soon, and their recovery is quick.

My office is in lower Manhattan, and I have no idea when I will be able to get in, or when it will be open. I’ve been thinking about moving back into the city to be closer to work, but this makes me think twice about it, but I may just be hard headed enough to do it anyway. Hopefully this will be an eye opener going forward, as this area was ill-prepared for this type of storm. As much as I give New Yorkers a hard time (since I’m from Denver), this is a VERY resilient area, and we WILL get back on our feet.

Broncos get ranked 9th. It is about right, for now. I think the Ravens should be ranked below us. Pretty certain we would be beat by the other 7 teams – right now.

The real advantage to the Broncos is if our new conditioning equipment and staff keep us healthy into post-season.

(Oh yeah – Mays did just break his ankle…urgh!)

Do we get DJ back the 10th game?

  9. SWBronco says:

Forgot about the ST aspect, thanks for clearing that up. I guess I just forget we have DJ coming back (never been a huge fan of his haha).

  10. RH709 says:

@SWBronco: I was mostly speculating but it seems to be logical.

I’m no fan of DJ either but he is needed at the moment. Mark my words, he will not be a Denver Bronco next year.

I wish I had some Bengal game film to prepare for this weekends game.

Glad you are ok OTB, and lbf I hope yours sister made it allright since she was basically in the eye of the storm near Atlantic City, and ditto for TRB in Baltimore but you were more on the left side of the storm (the “good” side) so you should be ok, all my thoughts are with all you guys up there. Anyone on the right side of this one from New jersey on North living near the coast just got tore a new one, that’s for sure.

Found a funny video with Peyton in it. It’s a parody from the 2010 ESPY show about the Blind Side. It made me laugh, so I had to share it:
