Hunter to Injured Reserve

August 27th, 2012 - 11:49am by Gray Caldwell

On Monday, the Broncos placed defensive end Jason Hunter on injured reserve.

Hunter injured his triceps in training camp practice on Aug. 14, an injury that required surgery.

“It’s hurtful to lose Jason Hunter,” linebacker Wesley Woodyard said at the time. “He’s one of those guys that has a motor every day. Our coaches joke with him — he’s one of those guys that gets excited driving to work. He’s in the parking lot ready. ‘Let’s go! Let’s go!’”

Hunter had worked his way into the starting lineup through his efforts in training camp, and Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio said he felt bad for the veteran defensive lineman.

“Certainly, he approached things the way I like it: tough, physical, and when you’re talking about people who play in the trenches for us, that’s what we’re looking for,” he said.

In his career, Hunter has played in 88 games — starting 23 — and totaled 128 tackles, 11 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

By 2 p.m. MDT today, the Broncos roster must reach an NFL-mandated 75 players. With Hunter moving to IR, the team currently has 87 players on the active roster. The full list of transactions will be released later today.

Moreno also had a pretty nice spin move get a few extra yards.. He’s got much more to do, but he’s moving in the right direction

  2. strandoftds82 says:

Kod, with Peyton running the offence, Moreno might flourish catching the ball out of the pocket, or a swing pass, or screen. But up the middle he does not have it. Get Moreno in the open and he`s deadly.

I cant wait to see who gets cut from other teams. I want to see if theres any surprises.

  4. alaskanbronco06 says:

LMAO Faider fans are already giving up on Palmer and are asking for the Faider failure office to trade him

  5. wolfedom says:

Moreno has shown flashes before only to collapse later. I have no faith in him. He does have skills but………

  6. tlcat06 says:

    AB are you SERIOUS?

  7. tlcat06 says:

To be honest, at this moment in time, I think the only one they could cut that I would be devastated by would be Mitch… but it’s only cause I’m extremely attached! LOL!

  8. alaskanbronco06 says:

Cat yea. I was on NFL.com looking at their cut tracker and there were some comments about getting rid of Palmer and starting Pryor. Saw some comments like that elsewhere as well.

  9. tlcat06 says:

    That’s crazy.

Quinn is the back up in KC.

  10. tlcat06 says:

These are the same Raiders fans who two weeks ago were telling me Peyton would break in half when he got hit? They must REALLY be freaking out now.

  11. tlcat06 says:

I convinced some guy at work that we cut Peyton today… LOL! It was classic!

  12. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

how did Osweiler look in yesterdays game? i didnt get to watch any of it yesterday : (

  13. tlcat06 says:

He did okay… I cannot tell you how many receivers dropped passes. He threw a dart to Caldwell and Caldwell dropped it. Right at the first down marker. smh

  14. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

thats not good! sounds like we need better depth. Anyone that could be cut from other teams we could get? also did the WR from ASU play yesterday? i want him to make the roster.

  15. strandoftds82 says:

    Vince Young got cut today.

  16. tlcat06 says:

No, it’s not. I’m sure they heard an earful from Peyton. Hanie is going to be our back up with Os behind him. Hanie played well… threw an INT and then responded with a touchdown to Dreessen.

  17. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

sweet. Hopefully Manning can shred the Steelers like he did the 49ers. I want him to finally shut up the critics.

  18. OrangeTsunami says:

Wolfe – I completely understand your frustration with Moreno, as I share it as well, but I just looked up his stats, and he hasn’t been as useless as some claim. Look at it this way, this will be his 4th year in the league, he played all 16 games his rookie year and in his first two seasons, Moreno gained more than 1,000 all purpose yards from scrimmage. Even when you add in last years disappointing numbers, he has a 4.27 yard per carry average for his career.

Granted, these are not the kind of stats you want from a first rounder, but McIdiot clearly reached on him, that I can not argue.. But, Moreno does still hold some value, and I would be completely dumbfounded if we simply cut him and let him walk for nothing, as a trade would be a more likely scenario IMO.

  19. strandoftds82 says:

    Well said OrAnGeCrUsH56.

  20. strandoftds82 says:

If Moreno is no longer a Bronco, I bet we keep him on the roster and possibly trade him. The way it sounds He makes the team I think. The sources in Denver are say Moreno makes the 53 man roster. Who knows what will really happen.

  21. strandoftds82 says:

I think JJ makes the team. John Elway like the young RB.

  22. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

is derek wolfe starting or was that just for one game?

  23. tlcat06 says:

Derek Wolfe was with the starters yesterday.

  24. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

    at end or tackle?

  25. tlcat06 says:

They had all of the moving around so much I couldn’t keep track of what they played most.

  26. OrangeTsunami says:

*in each of his first two seasons, Moreno gained over 1,000 all purpose yards from scrimmage

  27. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

what do you think mannings final stats would have been if could have played all for quarters?

  28. OrangeTsunami says:

He’ll most likely bounce around, but with Hunter out, he’ll probably play more at DE. I like a DL of Dumervil, Warren, Vickerson, Wolfe… Given our LB situation, I wonder if we’ve given any thought of trying Ayers there…

  29. OrangeTsunami says:

Ayers played some LB in college, but I think he’s bulked up too much at this point…

  30. wolfedom says:

OT, I also understand your point. I would like to think we could trade him but I doubt if there would be takers. His first year he did look good but his injuries are a problem and I don’t see any push when he hits it inside. Just my opinion

  31. wolfedom says:

I see that SanFran cut QB Josh McCown, maybe Raiders or Jets?

  32. OrangeTsunami says:

Moreno and Ayers were not good draft picks, and I don’t think anyone would argue otherwise, but let’s not forget that 2009 also produced Mark Sanchez, Aaron Curry, Aaron Mabin, Jason Smith, Derrius Heyward-Bey, Michael Crabtree, and Andre Smith all in the top 11 picks of the 1st round..

Moreno and Ayers are both hanging on for dear life, all I’m saying is that given that they both have some production (which can’t be taken for granted), I’d rather try and get any value out of them rather than just letting them go for nothing, which we’re not in a position to do given our depth at RB & DL.

  33. wolfedom says:

You’re right OT, I think Ayers will stay and probably Moreno also. Just don’t see an upside in Moreno. But we can hope. I think Ayers is just not motivated to succeed maybe happens after setting on bench for a while. Again we cah hope.

  34. OrangeTsunami says:

All we have is hope when it comes to those two….. We’ve seen stranger things, but at this point we need a miracle.. This will definitely be Moreno’s last year with us, since his salary jumps in his final year. Not sure about Ayers. I’d love for them to produce this year so we can dump both of these clowns in a trade….. One can HOPE!!! Lol

  35. Mile eye says:

I have never been thrilled about Moreno’s performances, but he does posses skills. With the current offensive threat our Team will soon enough demonstrate. Opening up the field, we may very well be surprised by him. I’m viewing him as our back up to McG, Ball as 3rd, Hillman may make a challenge by mid/late season. IMO
