Hunter to Injured Reserve

August 27th, 2012 - 11:49am by Gray Caldwell

On Monday, the Broncos placed defensive end Jason Hunter on injured reserve.

Hunter injured his triceps in training camp practice on Aug. 14, an injury that required surgery.

“It’s hurtful to lose Jason Hunter,” linebacker Wesley Woodyard said at the time. “He’s one of those guys that has a motor every day. Our coaches joke with him — he’s one of those guys that gets excited driving to work. He’s in the parking lot ready. ‘Let’s go! Let’s go!’”

Hunter had worked his way into the starting lineup through his efforts in training camp, and Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio said he felt bad for the veteran defensive lineman.

“Certainly, he approached things the way I like it: tough, physical, and when you’re talking about people who play in the trenches for us, that’s what we’re looking for,” he said.

In his career, Hunter has played in 88 games — starting 23 — and totaled 128 tackles, 11 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

By 2 p.m. MDT today, the Broncos roster must reach an NFL-mandated 75 players. With Hunter moving to IR, the team currently has 87 players on the active roster. The full list of transactions will be released later today.

    Let the cuts begin…

  2. OrangeTsunami says:

Too bad about Hunter, but if it means Warren can stay healthy, I’ll take that trade off 10 out of 10 times

  3. alaskanbronco06 says:

Is Hunter actually going to be out for the year or did we put him on IR with the intentions of him being the player that we can take off of IR and play him?

  4. Evil14u says:

Hate to see this to a guy who has fought hard to make the starting lineup. Maybe we can pick up Gerald Warren who looks like he can still play, NE just cut him, need to shore up the middle still in my opinion!

  5. tlcat06 says:

He is going to be out for at least four months, that much I know.

  6. OrangeTsunami says:

He should be done for the year AB. I think that new rule doesn’t start until next year, unfortunately.

  7. eternalorangeandblue says:

    tlcat. are you hot?

  8. tlcat06 says:

    What?

  9. wolfedom says:

That is bad news. I hope for a speedy recovery.

  10. alaskanbronco06 says:

Ok thanks OT Cat. Wasnt sure. I thought it was this year but I guess the NFLPA rejected both that and moving the trade deadline back so neither happen this year.

(Just googled it to be sure)

I wonder – do we, as Broncos fans, really know how REALLY LUCKY we are to have Peyton Manning as the LEADER of our team?? … I mean – it’s hard to really relate to how much different this season is going to be than last year’s was …

  12. blwalk01 says:

Whats the deal with Ayers this year? I thought hed really come into his own and do well this year. I guess not.

  13. OrangeTsunami says:

I didn’t mean to make light of this injury earlier, it’s definitely a blow to our DL, as he played with a nasty attitude. He’s younger than I thought, as he turns 29 tomorrow, he’ll be back.

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

blwalk I really thought the same thing. Thought hed really come around and be really improved but to me hes still been very lackluster.

  15. tlcat06 says:

Wiemin I DO!!!! I promise I think I’m going to write John Elway a thank you letter.

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

Anyone know if weve made any cuts yet today?

  17. tlcat06 says:

No cuts, only thing they’ve done is this ^

  18. OrangeTsunami says:

    Haven’t heard of any AB.

    Would you make this trade?

Knowshon Moreno and a 4th rounder for Wes Welker?

  19. alaskanbronco06 says:

I doubt there will be many (If any) surprise cuts today. Basically a lot of camp bodies.

  20. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT yea I would. I know we have a lot of good WRs but Welker is a very good WR. Tough fast and good hands.

Although I did like a lot what I saw from Moreno yesterday. He fought hard for extra yards.

  21. tlcat06 says:

OT, are you hearing rumors or is this a wish?

  22. OrangeTsunami says:

Moreno did look decent yesterday, and I think the plan is to pump up his value and trade him. I was never worried about our WR’s, until all these drops. Decker and Thomas are studs, but I’m not sure how long Stokley will be able to contribute, and after that the drop off is steep… Caldwell has disappointed thus far IMO.

  23. OrangeTsunami says:

    Just a thought cat

  24. tlcat06 says:

Ok. Well, I’d be okay with it. We has to feel somewhat slighted and we’re focused on winning the SB this year and Josh McDaniels is in NE so it would make sense.

  25. tlcat06 says:

    *Wes

  26. killerkod says:

While it would be awesome to have a guy like Welker playing in the slot for us……I don’t see NE giving him up until next year. Would be a great addition!

  27. killerkod says:

    lol@AB……

Pretty sad when a grown man needs rules like that………..but hey, if he feels he needs these rules to keep him in line, the all the power to him.

  28. OrangeTsunami says:

For some reason, I have a feeling that we might pull the trigger on a trade or make a surprising move before the season starts.

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

Lol Kod. I think its a good thing that Jerry Jones is stepping in to keep him out of trouble. If teams did this with more players then there would be so few of these off field issues. And with all the trouble with DJ I would (If I was part of the FO) Look into trying to get him to agree to something like this. Maybe not as far but would still look into it.

I think every team should hire people to drive their players around when theyve been drinking. Something to cut back on DUIs and all that.

  30. tlcat06 says:

I am not shocked by any of them!

  31. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT Mark Dell was cut today.

  32. tlcat06 says:

It’s Friday that’s going to break me. I’m tellin ya! LOL! Lonnie Paxton is a little bit of a surprise. I don’t know who our long snapper is now.

  33. alaskanbronco06 says:

Guess Omon was not that impressive in practice. Sad to see Omon go without really getting a chance.

  34. alaskanbronco06 says:

Cat its a CFA I cant remember his name.

  35. OrangeTsunami says:

Had a bad feeling that Omon wasn’t gonna make it, but surprised it was this round. Paxton too, guess we like Brewer. To bad for Dell, hopefully he clears waivers, and goes on our PS.

  36. wolfedom says:

Nothing too surprising. Have to make final cuts by Friday, we may see something interesting there.

  37. tlcat06 says:

    Thanks guys… I remember now!

  38. tlcat06 says:

Anybody think we make a trade before Friday?

  39. wolfedom says:

May be someone will cut somebody we need.

  40. wolfedom says:

I think someone will bring in Oman for a look.

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

Cat I think we might. I also think we may see a couple cuts and signings between now and Friday.

Cutting someone we dont like to sign a player we do like from another team.

  42. OrangeTsunami says:

No offense, but I’m just glad that Xanders is no longer a part of this process….

  43. tlcat06 says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if that does happen, AB.

    OT! ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. wolfedom says:

I’m with you on that OT.

  45. killerkod says:

no offense taken OT……..I’m glad he’s not part of the process anymore either. I’m totally happy with the people making the executive decisions about our roster and I trust they’ll make the right ones……..and like AB said…….I think they’ll pull the trigger on a couple of signings or trades by friday.

  46. killerkod says:

It’s suprised me, but my favorite part of yesterday’s game was actually Moreno’s stiff arm……that was some NASTY stuff! lol Loved it. He’s by no means won me over yet………but I do appreciate the effort he put forth in the chances he was given. Still not much up the gut, but he showed his skill on the outside.

  47. strandoftds82 says:

AB, I think we might pick up a few veterans on waiver wires maybe this week, but I`m thinking after the final cuts.

  48. tlcat06 says:

Kod, let’s just say that I am warming up to the fact that Moreno is going to make the team. Not toasty hot yet or anything, but warming up a bit.
