Honoring Military Service Members

November 9th, 2011 - 11:43am by Stuart Zaas

Sgt. Scott Graham wrote in to the Denver Post asking for Broncos Country to help vote for Broncos games to be aired on the American Forces Network. Each week, the AFN holds a vote on Facebook and the game with the most votes is broadcast overseas.

Graham, who is currently serving in Kuwait, is asking for fans to help him watch his favorite team play.

To help him and other Broncos fans that are serving in the military, click here to vote for the Broncos games on the American Forces Network Facebook page.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Broncos’ game against the Jets on Thursday, Nov. 17 has been designated as a military appreciation game. The Broncos are teaming up with Bud Light to salute our service members by recognizing select heroes during the Celebration of our Military at that game.

If you would like to nominate an active, inactive, retired or reserve hero for the honor and a chance for them to receive tickets and pregame field passes, click here to share their story with us.

41.5 points is the over/under line in this game, and obviously most bloggers here are drinking the kool aid because they are well over that so far.

  2. daddybronc says:

I don’t know how they do it – I get a lot accomplished in a day and I do many things at one time. But when I have to travel…I need a day to recover from bad sleep and too much coffee.

  3. daddybronc says:

I know – I have to remember how it was when I was twenty something! LOL

Problem is that I’m getting old and these guys are only slightly older than my children.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Only three bloggers have it 41 or under, all the others have it well over that.

  5. daddybronc says:

That number refers to the combined points?

  6. baylinorcrush says:

    Yes, always does.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Other than betting on the spread it’s another way of betting on games in Vegas, picking over or under the total point line.

  8. daddybronc says:

Is that a Las Vegas standard?

  9. daddybronc says:

thanks you answer faster than I can ask.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

By example this week the SD Oakland game line has been set at 48 points, our game at 41.5

  11. daddybronc says:

I’m not a gambler – OK, so I’m a risk taker in life – but not with money on the totally random.

  12. baylinorcrush says:

And the extremes this week is Minn Green Bay at 51 and Rams Browns at 37.

  13. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

After knowing what tours of duty feel like, it would be awesome to get this guy a LIVE broncos game! I am pretty sure we had like 5 channels in Iraq and I got to see one Broncos game and it was 3 days old after I already knew what the score was.

  14. OrangeTsunami says:

Hey fellas. So I’m a relatively new blogger her, but not new to the site. I live in the NYC area, and I was is the car today listening to a popular NY sports radio show, and they were discussing the Jets. The Jets play a division rival, NE, this week. You would think this would be the main focus, but the Bronco game was brought up on several occasions… They were saying how they were concerned about the Denver game, saying they were concerned with the short rest and even said that Tebow will give the Jets match up problems. To be looking ahead at us when they have NE this week shows us a lot of respect. If you remember, if not for a PI call on 4th and 6, on their own 46th yard line to end the game, we would have beat them last year. Let’s get ‘er done this time!!!

  15. baylinorcrush says:

    Good info Tsunami.

  16. daddybronc says:

Haha – with GB picking up 48 of those 51 pts.

So is this determined by an individual betting against the mass of gamblers? or is it based on what the mass of gambling pros -think?

  17. daddybronc says:

I was thinking about the Jets game when I asked about practice days. With that short week it’s like next game- no huddle!!

  18. baylinorcrush says:

This is first set by the various casinos and the spread is adjusted up or down depending who the money is placed on but the over/under line really doesn’t move like that as far as I know.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

Actually the over/under line is adjusted during the week based on the money too, just checked it out, but doesn’t move much, those Vegas guys are pretty good at evaluating games.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Anyway so far 80% of the bloggers are picking the over in this contest, whether they know it or not.

  21. OrangeTsunami says:

Btw, just read some of the older comments… Haynesworth won’t happen, no chance. Also, not sure about in here, but I remember a lot of Bronco fans upset that we drafted 2 safties last year.. Turns out it was a pretty savvy move IMO

  22. baylinorcrush says:

I remain skeptical though, this is a tough one for sure.

  23. daddybronc says:

I know you don’t usually pick till late in the week – but you’ve already said that you think KC is suspect on defense. You gonna be over or under? Do you use the LV standards to help you with picks?

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Here you go daddy, served on a platter just for you:

The Broncos had 52 of their 53 players at practice today, the first day of preparation for Sunday’s game at Kansas City.

The only Broncos player missing from the start of the session was linebacker and special teams captain Wesley Woodyard. Woodyard briefly left last week’s game against Oakland.

Rookie safety Rahim Moore has been cleared to practice after suffering a concussion on the first play of last week’s game. Head coach John Fox said Monday that the hit on Moore appeared worse than it was.

Other players back at practice this week are cornerback Cassius Vaughn (hamstring) and tight end Virgil Green (neck).

  25. baylinorcrush says:

I don’t think you want to know how I go about it since I only got two points, LOL, and anyhow those are my secrets because after all I did win it all in 2009 with 21 points and last year finishing in 2nd place with 18 points, but I’m hurting this year, too much competition.

  26. OrangeTsunami says:

Good injury update.. I can’t wait to see the game plan this week! I hope we don’t let it get stale, as you gotta figure KC will be ready especially with the film from last week.. I’d love to see some more screen passes, and we also gotta figure out how to get Julius involved, as he could be a great option for Tebow

  27. daddybronc says:

I’m thinking that Tebow hasn’t been to the end-zone personally in a couple of weeks. He’s been working at disciplining himself to get teammates there. But I think he is due…and a bit hungry.

  28. daddybronc says:

Didn’t want your secrets Bay. Thanks for the report.

  29. daddybronc says:

I think it would help to know if Tebow is going to come out throwing. A passing Tebow scores more points. I think I could get used to the Broncos scoring around 38 each week. Bet that surprised Las Vegas. I’m certain that’s the reason that over/under line is low on this game. I’m hoping that the Broncos are moving into the new offensive standard as they figure out how to score with Tebow at the helm.

I hope that we don’t need too much more adversity!

  30. savinghyrule says:

Sucks about Wesley being hurt…hope he can play Sunday. I honestly think between him, Von and DJ (off-field antics aside), we have one of the better linebacking corps.

  31. daddybronc says:

So – what’s injured on Woodyard? Does it seem like a one game layover? or a more serious injury?

  32. daddybronc says:

and Bay – how do you get the early practice reports – it’s not like you’re local and getting them onsite?

  33. baylinorcrush says:

“we have one of the better linebacking corps”

Wow, twilight zone all over again, this must be the day for sure.

    Woodyard serviceable

    Miller excellent

    DJ half a loaf

We may have gotten off having the worse LB corp in the NFL, however that doesn’t make it the best overnight… But I respect your opinion, just totally selling on that.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

It usually pops on the DP before it does here, or MHR or other local sources.

  35. baylinorcrush says:

It’s been fun, but don’t want to overdo it which I already did, you guys be good.

  36. HardHitting27 says:

Best line backing corpse? Hmmm…. the group we had in the early mid 80s with Gradishar or the group that consisted of Wilson and Mobley.
I’m leaning more towards the throwback days of the 80s though

  37. daddybronc says:

You didn’t mention Mays and Haggan.

  38. daddybronc says:

Hard – corpse? It’s not that bad!!! LOL

  39. OrangeTsunami says:

Speaking of LB’s anyone know what’s going on with Nate Irving?

Also, anyone notice Tebow slide on one of his later runs? Let’s hope the “tank” is learning to protect the body (as much as possible)..

  40. daddybronc says:

Take care of yourself – Bay.

  41. baylinorcrush says:

Was just talking about the LBs he was referring to, but Mays and Haggan are just serviceable too at best, but nothing more than that, any of the starting LBs on the Ravens or Steelers are 10 times better than any of ours other than Miller one day, and I stand by that.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah gotta go rest for a while, thanks.

  43. daddybronc says:

Def. no Mecklinburgs on our roster.

  44. daddybronc says:

I like Mays – he has really helped to shut down the run. Maybe Lynch would like to put in a couple more seasons?

  45. HardHitting27 says:

thanks for pointing out my typo. Corpse!!! Long day at work!!

  46. daddybronc says:

Hard – it was funny though!

  47. daddybronc says:

I’ve been in the office with contracts and customer questions all day but I’ve gotta go get my house winterized and some firewood cut. It’s only lunch time here – getting cold in CA.

  48. HardHitting27 says:

It was cold in CO today too.
What part of CA daddy? I have family out there in Coarsegold/Fresno and in La Cracenta/Glendale areas.

  49. daddybronc says:

My real thought on the Denver linebackers is that most of the Denver LB’s and Secondary is made up guys who specialize in one aspect but don’t seem to have that versatility that can make a linebacker something special. On the otherhand…with Dawk and Champ on the defensive squad – these guys have the opportunity to play at a higher level than their skills have equipped them for. Dawk and Champ are teaching all of these guys how to play for the team, and how to play with passion. They may be a bit mediocre and they may get burned a little for big yards, but on the whole the defense is playing ‘team’ defense and getting the job done.

  50. oldsouthstander says:

The NE Patriots have the worst defense in the NFL. They played Fat Albert only 6 games and he made only 3 tackles. If he’s not good enough to stay on the worst defensive team, why would anyody think he could possibly be an asset to the Broncos? Just don’t see any logic to that line of thinking.
