Holland Traded

August 28th, 2008 - 12:36pm by Adam Zinser

The Broncos have traded guard Montrae Holland to the Dallas Cowboys for a fifth-round draft selection in 2010, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.

Holland joined the Broncos as an unrestricted free agent in March 2007 after spending the first four years of his career with the New Orleans Saints. He started all 16 games at right guard last year for the Broncos.

good trade.. shanahan sending a message here.. if your not willing to contribute like all the other players on the roster, your not gonna be a part of the roster.. saw this coming since the 1st week of training camp.. peace out fatty

Too bad it didnt work out here in Denver…Its hard to find huge guys who can run so well.

  3. getlynched47 says:

Hmmm. I think we didn’t trade Holland for fair value…he was one of our most consistant lineman last year….well it’s done…nothing we can do now

  4. broncoryan says:

well apparently shanny was not too happy ability to lose the pounds through training camp?

  5. orygunbronco says:

No doubt the plowgirls scouted him out while they were hanging out at Dove Valley wishing their cheerleaders were as cute as ours. That’s ok ,they won’t be very happy when that guy gets run through like the Holland Tunnel. No offense Montrea but you’re not a Bronco anymore…

Smart trade here I think. Kuper was obviously beating him out alongside Hamilton. But cutting Holland nets the team nothing. On paper, the Cowboys just got a starting guard. In reality, it was a guy who had only one year with the team who only kept his job due to the injuries last year of Hamilton and Nalen. This also allows Lichtensteiger a chance to squeeze in some time at back up guard to gain experience to one day succeed Nalen once Nalen retires.

well i like this idea. lets try to trade away the guys who arent gonna make the team. it gives two things. 1 it gives us a draft pick and if we keep doing good in draft well be ok. 2nd kuper is younger and a little better.

  8. DrAwkward says:

I thought Holland was pretty good? Maybe not. Not too sure about fans reactions, as it seems everyone is good/cool around here until they’re off the team, then it’s more like a “Thank God that guy’s not here anymore. We didn’t need him.”

It doesn’t seem to be the smartest thing in the world to me. The O-line isn’t the most experienced. What if someone goes down? it’s been impressive so far in PRESEASON, hope it doesn’t return to last year when Cutler had no time. It’s good we got rid of someone who has his size?…who needs bulky pass protectors when you can have weaker/faster linemen to assist in the run game but fail wholly at maintaining a pocket for the QB the team should be building around.

If your gonna trade Holland and or repramand him why not do somthing to Moss for not trying hard enough to put on weight. He now is 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart. With a deffense hurting for some kind of pass rush, and him being a no.1 pick? Yeah real nice.

  10. Hesky says:

I like the move. Kuper & Harris have that right side taken care of, even though they are the weaker side. I think Kory Lichtensteiger could come in and play if Kuper went down, i think Holland is better off elsewhere. It’s obvious his ability to not lose weight was going to affect his speed and play.

5th rounder :) Good drafts the past 2 years, so i welcome draft picks.

Can’t say if trade is beneficial just yet. Will have to wait until 2010 to find out. I can say that, there is no room for slackers on this team this year.Holland came into camp overweight and out of shape. This team is trying to get their swagger back by becoming a major force in the NFL,like they once were.Shannahan is sending a strong message to the players. You either get down or lay down !!!!

  12. "junkyard" says:

Same message applies to MOSS,he hasn’t made alot of noise since he’s been with the team.Step it up or Step it out !!!!!

got a question for you guys, it a little off subject but need opinions. i have recently joined a football team and ben given the job of hback, now the ovious things is running back but i have heard this terms befor and when they were talking about it they were useing chris cooley as an example. so my question is is this a te mainly for recieving like i think or what? please help

  14. dlmyers says:

Can you believe that Goodman and Shanahan got a 5th round draft choice for Holland? This is really great, nice job guys.
Due to Kory Lichensteiger grading out very well at guard and center, Holland was expendable. Remember, Casey Wiegmann can play guard also.
I think Gandy is cut and Erikson goes to PS.

B Marshall will only miss ONE GAME?!?!? Oh Yeah!! CBS 4 just let it outta’ the bag. Heck yeah!!

  16. mazzter says:

Glad i read your comments. you all seem to be up on this more than i am, i always thought we were/are hurting at depth for the O-line.

  17. scgoff says:

    2010 ???

  18. JustMyThoughts says:

I thought Holland was pretty good. But now we have to face him next year since we play the Cowboys in regular season next year. But I’m sure the move was good for him since he’s from Texas.

And I do agree about MOSS!! He was a first round pick and he has shown no improvement. We have free agents doing better than him. Last years second round pick Crowder is coming along way better than Moss. I know the coaches must be frustrated because they have to keep Moss whether they want to or not because of all that money they paid him for being a first rounder. Although I really wish we could trade Moss.

Speaking of money, did you all know that Dre Bly is scheduled to make around 9 million this year while Champ Bailey 7 milllion. What is wrong with that picture? Dre Bly has not been the player we hoped he would be. For the money they are paying him I expect him to at least be consistent. I don’t feel he is worth more than Champ to the team.

  23. orange crush 92 says:

    jmonk……

I don’t know what level you play in….but i play high school football and i used to be an h-back before they moved me to guard and i was primarily a blocking back but in different formations i would play like a chris cooley and go to the flats and catch passes or block down on the d end

  24. jmonk says:

so kinda what i thought kinda not thanx for the info

  25. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I thought Montrae was a cool guy, but there were hungrier linemen on the team and Shanahan did the only sensible thing. We’ll move forward en route to a successful season without Holland and I wish him the best in the Metroplex.

  26. imready says:

Holland coming into camp vastly overweight was fair to the rest of the team, he earned being traded by putting his lack of self control at the table before the team. Good luck to him .
Give Moss a break, he was injured most of last year and didn’t get the time to learn that most of that rookie class got to take advantage of. He has tremendous speed , hopefully he just needs more time to adjust to the type of players he is now facing in the NFL.
Great news on B-Marsh getting his suspension reduced!
