UPDATE: Helton went on to hit a grand slam in the first inning of the Rockies’ game Wednesday night.
Last week it was Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki that came out to watch a Broncos practice.
Today his teammate, first baseman Todd Helton, stopped by Dove Valley to take in a Broncos minicamp session.
Helton is no stranger to the football field, as he was a starting quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers before he was injured and replaced by another quarterback who also attended Wednesday’s practice.
Peyton Manning took over for Helton as the Volunteers’ quarterback in 1994 and Helton never played another snap of football, concentrating his efforts on the baseball diamond instead.
Manning and Helton have remained close friends over the years and Manning has been a guest of Helton’s in the Rockies’ clubhouse and has taken in a few games at Coors Field this season.
Helton became the fifth Tennessee Volunteer on the practice field Wednesday, joining Manning, Britton Colquitt, Robert Ayers and Malik Jackson.
Colquitt took time during a break from special teams drills to talk to Helton, who he had never met before despite having a hometown connection of Knoxville, Tenn.
“Of course, I grew up watching him,” Colquitt said. “It was cool, I’ve always wanted to meet him and since I’ve been out here, I’ve been like, ‘I’ve got to meet that guy.’ He’s awesome and he’s a legend. It’s just cool to be in the same town as him since he’s from the same place that I’m from.”
Colquitt said he enjoys when other Denver professional athletes come out to watch a practice.
“It’s definitely cool to see the (Rockies) guys come out and sometimes the (Nuggets),” he said. “Sometimes you forget that you’re in professional sports, too. It’s definitely cool to see them.”

Mike Klis will remain on the optimist list re: Manning..

Day two photo gallery now posted on the website.
Cool stuff. How goes it Royal?
Man, the Rockies look horrible this season. Ouch!
Going well strand… how are you doing?
Doing good! I`m checking out the Broncos day 2 images. Cool Pics!
Its a hot one today.
It’s a hot day for Denver.. 89 degrees. How’s the Springs?
The High Park Fire near Fort Collins is at 46,600 acres with only 10 percent containment.
Its 89 degrees at the moment. Yes, that fire is way out of control. They need it to rain badly. Hardly any wind today. I hope the wind is slight in High Park.
The blog is slow today. Hardly anyone is on today.
I read this comment on the Denver Post blog and I have to post it here because I enjoyed reading it and thought you would too! LOL
“The important thing is that we keep track of all the bad things about Manning being in Denver.
If he were a mean, selfish guy with strange quarterback tendencies this would be a lot more satisfying. As it is, we’re forced to go with being old and having a bad neck, because, really, there’s not much to work with here. Great guy, GOAT level player, nice family, all kinds of charities.
Wait, now I have it. He’s not doing enough bad things to support the media and the blogosphere. If he really wanted to help the community he would do a drug shootout so we would have something to gossip about.” posted by Mike J
LOL
It’s hump day and we are over the hump!!!
Hola – Bronco Fans!!!! Hola blog!!!
I hereby forbid any friends from dying. It is too much hassle for the living. My friend’s wife is a basket case. Lot’s of decisions to be made but she is incapable of dealing with anything. Very sad times! I am not feeling as much under a dark cloud as yesterday. My friend did a great job of preparing and his widow and son are well provided for as are all the expenses surrounding this time. I got to take care of some things myself – to prepare for the ‘just in case’. Be wise Bronco Buddies!
Just so as you know I don’t put any stock in the reports concerning weaknesses in Manning’s deep ball. I consider this to be a complete fabrication. If it were so – it still would be of absolutely no concern. The only issue in my mind remains – can ‘the neck’ take a hit??? – how many hits??? – and how often??? This question also remains valid – can the young O-Line protect ‘the Neck’??? or will it be a fail when it comes to pass protection time as it did for both Orton and Tebow??? While I think McCoy prepares his skill players on offense fairly well – It is still McCoy that we are counting on to prep this offensive front and who was not able to get them their last year. I’ll grant you that it is far easier to protect Manning for 3 seconds than it ever was to attempt to protect TT for 10.
The questions are fair – the season will answer!
I really do know the difference between They’re, There, and Their. What the heck is that???!
ya me too db! but who cares we know what you mean, we got your back. i promise not to say anything to grammatical errors. as long as you dont call mine out! anyway what a slow blog day. strand, royal, and kod tried so hard to get something going to no avail. oh well i’ve def seen worse days. and we’re not doing bad considering its the middle of the offseason. i have been really busy things go crazy for me this time of year on the construction side of the business. had to go look at a school remodel an hour south of my city, then go about 30 min northeast of the city to look at a firestation being built. bam thats half the day right there and then i gotta take care of the other stuff. its like i start at 7am and then about 15 minutes goes by and its 6 pm. and i still have 10 things to do, so i put em off to the next day and the cycle starts all over. man. anyway i’m sure thats the last thing yall care about on this blog but hey, i feel better!
LBF, I’d pay $ to be half as busy as you are!!!
DB, did you ever watch this video? It was posted at the beginning of last season by a doctor that was asked to explain his neck surgeries. He is saying there is no reason he shouldn’t be able to take a hit like any other QB: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7McTR03X2M
I’m not a doctor so I’m going with the multiple doctors who say he will be able to take a hit just fine. Obviously we have to wait until we play Chicago to be sure. But I’m not worried (-;
I am a doctor – just not medical. Haha.
I still have a hard time believing that you can fuse neck bones which inherently means less flexibility …
I guess we will have to wait and see, but I do not wish him any ill.
yes- I did watch the video a long time ago.
Hey y’all. Looks like a slow day ’round here, what gives?? Only positive is it’s super easy to get caught up after a busy day..
I tried to go back and watch it and either that link or something won’t let it play…but I did see it some time back.
Hey OT!

The Broncos’ rotation at S continued Wednesday, with Rahim Moore returning to the first unit alongside FS Mike Adams. Moore saw first-team work last week, but Quinton Carter, a starter for the last 11 games of 2011, returned to the first team when minicamp began Tuesday. Rebuilding Moore’s confidence has been a priority for the Broncos, and multiple players and coaches have gone on the record praising the 2011 second-rounder.
What’s good DB? Sorry to hear about your friend..
Medical doctors, multiple, meaning more than three say he’s going to be fine. In fact, I haven’t heard of one who says he can’t recover. And they all know more than I do because they’ve studied necks for years. It’s their job! LOL I’m glad I teach! They were more worried about the nerve being regenerated than taking a hit. But after today, it sounds like his nerve is healing just fine! And I’m more excited now than I was yesterday!
*Taps Your Cleats Three Times*
*He’s not in Indy Anymore*
*We Got Peyton*
Yeah, I love the competition between Carter and Moore… They both look promising for the season!

Didn’t Dorthy do that to get back home? LOL

DT Ty Warren has worked with the second team at this week’s minicamp as he tries to get back up to speed after sitting out OTAs and missing the last two seasons with hip and triceps injuries. In spite of that, he says he can return to his pre-injury form. “Ain’t no doubt about it,” he said. “I can probably go out there with blinders and put my hand down at whatever position I would play.” Warren added that he needed to focus on conditioning and playbook study.
You missed my night when Buzz came up with it… I’m not letting it go no matter what!
I was just reading that article too Cat. My preference is that Moore win that battle. I think he is making more money than Carter – not certain – but that being the case he’ll get cut if he can’t beat out Carter. Besides – we need Moore to get back to college form with lot of picks.

QB Peyton Manning had arguably his best practice in recent weeks, completing an array of short to medium passes. His deep passes looked strong, but a potential downfield strike to WR Eric Decker bounced off the receiver’s hands after he’d beaten CB Champ Bailey. “You see Peyton throwing the deep ball; you see Peyton throwing the quick ball. I don’t think his health is in question anymore,” said CB Tracy Porter.
See, I am making myself a photo album of all my Broncos pictures so I was going to have my last pages say “He’s not in Indy anymore” and then Buzz said “Tap Your Cleats Three Times” referring to me because I still feel like its a dream. SO! It works and is very clever and now my pages will be even cooler (-; and OC is going tmwrite a song for me.
DB Yes Moore a 2nd rounder is making more than Carter a 4th I believe. But if he doesnt beat out Carter I highly doubt we will cut him during his second year unless his practices go horribly. Which from what im hearing is not the case.
Yeah, OT I read that too. They asked Peyton about his receivers dropping balls in yesterday’s interview. If you haven’t watched it, watch it for that reason. Such a classy guy!
ya i’m glad warren is working with the second team. he’s been out so long they dont need to rush him into anything major right now. he’s gonna be fine like he said the worry is not wether he can get back to dominating its whether he gets there without reinjuring himself. smart move.
No – I suspect Moore will play out his 4 or 5 year contract and then get cut if he isn’t starting for us.
Just realized some of that info is on this website… My apologies, just trying to getting caught up over here!
Trying to getting?? Wtf?? Lol
DB, but that’s like four year speculation… Perhaps we should just think about this up coming season?
OT I love Broncos news and I love reading good stuff twice (-;
I saw that interview too cat! Whatever happened to the evil Peyton Manning who yells at his WR’s??
LOL he only does that after they drop the ball in a game. I’m sure he yells at them in practice, but it’s only to make them better and they like getting better!!! He never talks bad about his teammates, even when they try and make him like yesterday.
It doesn’t bother me when he is yelling at them during a game. At all. It’s not his fault the stupid cameras are following him around. I still love when he andnSaturday got into it on the sidelines when he was micced up! LOL
Cat – that’s a 2 and a half year speculation – but Moore has already taken a lot of heat because he got bumped last year. As I see it, He has to beat Carter this year or forget long term lucrative contracts because they aren’t going to happen for him. So I do see that as very much a this year issue.
Evil Manning only shows up on the football field. Never with a mic in his face. Rarely even in practice. But in a game…he can put on a whine and slam that Rivers would be proud of! LOL
“It’s not his fault the stupid cameras are following him around. ” Whhhaattt? LOL you say the funniest things some times!
I have no problem with it either cat. A little tough love is a good thing IMO, and plus, we’re talking about grown men here…
also depends on how moore does on special teams. if he can find his niche there they will just keep him and pay him like a special teamer. and thats not a bad thing. one thing to consider when you look at a roster is special teams. alot of times if we get someone like moore in the second round and he doesnt completly pan out at his postition it can still work out for the team. special teams is very important. very, very, important. so sometimes you look at a player who is kinda weak at a position and you think ‘man why dont they just cut him’ it could be because he’s a special teams ace. you gotta account for having a good special teams all while not really wanting your top starting players in that role. its tough to get a great special teams and balance it with a great o and d and not use your starters from those sides. again, a roster has alot to it, its not just pick out a starter and a backup and your golden. its making an elite special teams unit out of the players, again not using alot of starters, having quality backups at every o and d position that can fill all the roles on special teams well, all while having a limited number of players. so its all about creating the right mix of talent for all three phases and thats a job i wouldnt want. so a failed starter that was a second rounder is still a good pick if he’s a solid backup AND an elite special teamer because that guy is a premium player too. bottom line is a perfect roster is impossible to create especially with the restraints imo. ya know its fascinating seeing it unfold the best way they know how to set it up. football is a deep and wonderful sport to follow, theres just so much to it!! oh ya and GO BRONCOS!!
DB – This will only be Moore’s second year, I think you’re being a tad bit harsh.. It’s not like he hasn’t contributed at all, that would be another story. I maintain that Carter and Moore will be our future Safety tandem. Mike Adams will be great for the short-term, and I like Brutun for depth, but I really think both Moore and Carter will assume both starting spots over the next two years.
ya manning is never out of line and can do what he wants because he EARNED it. if i was manning on this blog i would tell db ‘oh ya i get all over my recievers and oline and why shouldnt i?’ cuz look at the results and what he’s done. and db wouldnt have an answer either. well nevermind its db of course he would!!
I would be far worse than Manning – no doubt. I’d be riding those receivers like they were ponies – especially if they ran the wrong routes or dropped good passes. My tough love would not win friends or influence people at all.
- I could care less about being politically correct but Manning has to care. And it is just a major contrast with the way some other QB’s handle things.
haha cat that was some kinda funny that ‘manning against the oline’ scene! a classic for sure, and i love when he says ‘oh ya it was better than desperate housewives” (that statement dates the event).
youre right it is a major contrast, he’s one of the best ever. it contrasts a whole lot from a whole lot of qb’s and anyone on earth would take it his way in a half a second. you are completely wrong about manning on that. and thats not my opinion thats a fact!
and i know that long post was full of common knowledge it just fascinates me how much there is to building a roster was the main point. just said in alot of words!
