Goodwin Joins Practice Squad

October 19th, 2011 - 9:56am by Stuart Zaas

The Broncos have signed wide receiver D’Andre Goodwin to the practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. Goodwin fills a position that opened when the New York Jets signed wide receiver Eron Riley to their active roster.

Goodwin spent training camp with the Broncos and finished the preseason with four receptions for 61 yards and contributed on special teams.

He attended the University of Washington, where he played 49 career games (21 starts) and totaled 124 receptions for 1,478 yards (11.9 avg.) with five touchdowns.

Riley, who had been on the Broncos practice squad since Week 7 of the 2010 season, led the team with 187 receiving yards in the 2011 preseason.

    Interesting.

Smart move by the Jets. I really liked Riley. I think that in the future, he’ll be one of those players that we are going to be sorry we didn’t get to hold onto.

  3. monodono says:

Riley was better in preseason than Goodwin, IMO

  4. baylinorcrush says:

    Too little too late Fox.

  5. baylinorcrush says:

This goes right down the alley of when McD lost S Barrett to the Pats.

  6. RabidOrange says:

Shoulda promoted Riley and put Bush on the PS. Oh, well. The kid has a bright future, I just wish it was with us. Semper Broncos!!

I just added D. Thomas to my fantasy team because I’m thinking he will be a good sleeper. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Obviously know one will be able to tell, but I just hope he’s not taking up space on my bench haha. Has anyone hinted to how much playing time he is supposed to get?

  8. baylinorcrush says:

Bur somehow I see how that happened, 5 WRs on the roster, Royal, Decker, DT, Willis and Cosby and Cosby is better than Riley on ST, but it still hurts and will hurt in major proportion down the road when Riley makes a name for himself wherever he goes, with Sanchez now maybe not, haha.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

I know nothing about fantasy, but to me that’s a bad move, if anything when Tebow goes long it could be to Willis who he’s had way more practice with than DT, not to mention unable to stay healthy, it’s like you really like a wild shot, I’ll believe it when I see it with DT is how i’m gonna approach this, and it will be probably two or three weeks before he gets a lot of work, still raw all around and not in football shape. Good luck anyway.

  10. brian_schneider says:

@orangecrushTD: I am not a fantasy football expert by any means, but Thomas is one of those guys who will get you a big goose egg or a decent amount of points, but he won’t be a consistent, to start out, anyway. He’s rusty and a long ways from being in football shape. I do think he’ll be a big target in the redzone due to his size. If he can stay healthy he may be a sleeper in my opinion.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Three big missing time injuries since he’s been here, and he came here from an injury in College, that pretty much should say all anyone has to know about using him in fantasy I would think.

  12. brian_schneider says:

I’d say use him as an emergency WR only. There has to be someone better on the FA wire. Nothing against Thomas, but I don’t think he’ll be an impact this season. He has a LOT of catching up to do.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

DT, so far 2 starts in 21 games.

  14. orangecrushTD says:

Haha. Maybe he will grow a set? Have the coaches or Elway mentioned anything about his playing time the next few weeks?

  15. brian_schneider says:

I sure hope he can stay healthy, but if he gets injured again this season..it may be time to let go of another questionable McD draftee.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

Any more info will cost you money, LOL.

  17. orangecrushTD says:

    Brian_,

I didn’t take him out of desperation or anything. I actually have a pretty decent team. I have J Maclin and M Floyd (don’t judge me) as my starters with a couple decent back ups. I just was thinking the other day that if Loyd did get traded that the Broncs wouldn’t have any deep threats. So, I picked him up just out of sheer interest to see see if he does anything down the road.

  18. brian_schneider says:

    Understandable

  19. baylinorcrush says:

My boy Willis is the deep threat, fastest player on our O, entire team for that matter according to McD last year, Vaughn second fastest I believe.

  20. orangecrushTD says:

Anywho, I’m pumped for this weekend. Just read that the Broncos are 3 point underdogs. I was surprised by that. And it doesn’t seem like anyone outside of the Denver/Broncos fan base is giving Tebow a chance. I understand if he sucks by the end of the season, the haters are considered right, but to not even give him a chance his pretty stubborn. And man do they hate our defense. Our poor defense is so underated. Yeah, they give up some points, but when you’re on the field for 35+ minutes a game you’re bound to give up some points. I’m sticking with them.

I like being the underdog. It feels that much better when we get to say we told you so and if we don’t do anything know one loses any sleep over it.

    WARNING:

Some bloggers keep posting score predictions on blogs that are long dead and 3 to 4 blogs behind sometimes, if you do so not to be on record for the contest, absolutely no problem with that, but if you mean to be entered, I recommend you always do it on the most current blog as one of these days you will be left out and no way I will re-enter you after the fact. Please do your little bit to help out, much appreciated, in this case this was intended for Lax and ddk002.

  22. orangecrushTD says:

So what’s the reasoning behind him getting little playing time? Why not as a return man at least? I thought he looked really good in the preseason. Plus, Tebow has a good connection with him because he has been his right hand man through the practicing and preseason. Where is Willis from anyways?

  23. baylinorcrush says:

3 points is the standard avantage given by Vegas to the home field team when they feel the two teams are equally matched, so yes a little surprising since we won one game and the Dolphins zero. The line will probably go down to Dolphins favorite only by one or two by game time, maybe even even.

  24. shaztah says:

Well Bay, I did say that I hope they move Riley to the active squad when they were only talking about trading Lloyd and there the bosses went and let him get away. BOOO.

    Denver 28
    Miami 10

By the way, Hubby was way off on his picks he missed 5 last week so I guess I don’t get to go to the game :( At least I get to pick them this week LOL.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

The reason Willis not getting the work he should? FOX.

    UCLA.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Fox AND McCoy, but they are one of the same, go way back in Carolina.

  27. mcmcnees says:

Man, not liking this news. Day late dollar short…

  28. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah shaztah, we win some, we lose some, problem is for the last three years we’ve lost way more than we’ve won, players and games.

  29. danso says:

Broncos 27-17 is my predicition. I have a lot of faith in our team even if the writers and odds makers don’t. I was at the last game against S.D. and when Tebow got going the fans came to life and I don’t think we ever sat down in the 4th qtr. Great fun. Our offense is young and will only get better and our defense is healthy. I’m excited about the rest of the season and will be at the Detroit, Jets, Patriots games for sure. I gave Chicago tickets to a fundraiser charity and haven’t decided on K.C. And you know what? I never have been a boo bird at Orton or any Bronco and never will be. I just love being a Bronco fan!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

Belive it or not players are still the ones who win games, no matter what the coaches do, and I wish sometimes they kept that fact a little more in perspective.

  31. brian_schneider says:

You can lead a WR to the ball but you can’t make him catch it.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

That brings up a good point danso, if Tebow ever goes down injured he better not do it in Denver because then Orton will come in, take your boo earplugs just in case.

  33. brian_schneider says:

Booing is really the fans’ only effective form of voicing their opinion.

  34. orangecrushTD says:

Tebow played with a broken leg in HS. It’s hard to hurt him…

  35. Greatness007 says:

Knock on wood but if Tebow gets hurt. I say go to Quinn or even Weber. Nomore Orton!! Let him go e can do nothing to win the fas back. He can come in and take us to a SB. (Wishful thinking I know) Still in the SB we still gonna say Tim is Healthy now put him back in. lol

  36. Greatness007 says:

    even* not e

  37. CrushNation says:

    Bay,

    Here you go!

    Denver 17
    Miami 20

  38. royalbroncofan1 says:

Fomer Buffalo Bills Center Kent Hull passed away at age 50.. (wow- my age).
Hull played in USFL and joined Jim Kelly in Buffalo for the great run they had to 4 SB’s. Kelly was one of the fab 3 drafted in ’83 with Marino and the great John Elway.
    Sad read on Hull.

  39. royalbroncofan1 says:

    *Former

  40. baylinorcrush says:

OOOOOOOOOOHHH!!!! Somebody went out on a limb!! We got our first Broncos losing prediction. Dangerous territory with a gimme minus 5 points? or on the verge of greatness and earning 7 points?

  41. royalbroncofan1 says:

danso – I’ll bet at the Lions, Jets, Patriots & Bears games this year !
    See you there lol!

  42. randy2191 says:

i still think we should cut orton and bring the DT we just signed or weber onto the active team. JMO

  43. brian_schneider says:

Are we still in the “win now” mode?

  44. randy2191 says:

so bay i got a question for you lol.. lets say that dude is the only one who predicts denver to lose but then denver wins.. but the score is like 21 to 20 so he is still ears points close enough to get points we will say he earns 3… does he still go on wall of shame and end up with only -2? lol

  45. broncsbomber66 says:

    Wtf, we lost Riley….Im speechless.

  46. CrushNation says:

Just call me the gambler. It not really a shot against TT. This team just does not have alot of talent.

  47. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Hey guys I was on the last blog yesterday talking Raiders when I wrote “FTN”. My mistake, I meant FTR. FTN is a a popular little saying I learned while in the Navy. You all can probably figure out what that means lol.

  48. broncsbomber66 says:

Does Domenik Hixon ring a bell?

  49. Broncos Born & Raised says:

I’m real bummed we lost Riley to the Jets.

  50. CrushNation says:

    Brian,
We are not in a win now mode. We are not even in a rebuilding mode.
We are still tearing down the OUT HOUSE McD built.
