Getting Back the ‘Doom’

October 6th, 2011 - 5:04pm by Stuart Zaas

Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil played his first full contest since the 2009 season on Sunday at Green Bay. Dumervil started the season opener against Oakland, but was limited to pass-rush situations due to a shoulder injury, which kept him out of the team’s Week 2 and 3 games.

While that was not the way the sixth-year pro hoped to kick off the season after missing an entire year due to a pectoral injury, Dumervil is working to get back to the form that he displayed the last season he took the field, when he led the NFL with a club-record 17 sacks in 2009.

“There was a lot of rust last week, but I’m looking forward to this week,” Dumervil said after practice on Thursday. “I felt good in practice, so it should be a good week.”

Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen looks forward to getting Dumervil back on the field at full strength, but knows that it won’t happen overnight.

“To get good at playing the game you have to play the game,” Allen said. “When you’re off for that extended period of time, you have to have a little bit of time to get back and get in the groove.”

Allen can’t wait to see a healthy Dumervil chasing after opposing quarterbacks.

“I did see some things in (Elvis) that obviously I’m excited about having him back,” Allen said. “I think every day that he’s out here, every game he plays in, every practice he practices in, he gets a little bit better every day.”

Another player who is looking forward to seeing a healthy No. 92 back on the field is the team’s No. 2 overall draft choice, strongside linebacker Von Miller, who leads all NFL rookies with four sacks through the team’s first four games.

In the first full game that the duo played together, Miller posted his first career multi-sack game.

The pair provided a glimpse of what could be in store for future quarterbacks on the Packers’ first offensive series of the game. On Aaron Rodgers’ first snap, he rolled out on a play-action pass attempt and found Dumervil, who shoved the Packers quarterback to the ground as he threw the ball away. On the next play, Miller knocked down Rodgers as he released a pass.

“(Elvis) is Batman. I’m Robin,” Miller said during training camp. With Batman regaining his wings, other quarterbacks are going to find themselves fleeing from the superheroes often.

Gee its amazing hwo everyone knows this simple fact, say it in camp and yet front office and some people say TT needs to sit to learn … Champ was just saying the same thing as Allen last week about vaughn.

I believe I called 3 sacks doom, 2 sacks Miller … hopefully it comes to fruition.

I’m going to the game on sunday!! I want to see Philp Rivers break his femer!! I dislike that man! Heck lets let Tebow play outside line backer im sure he could break rivers leg!

  9. champster24 says:

Batman & Robin “literally” will tear the Joker a new one…it will be live on tv.

  10. Crazyhorserider says:

This weeks prediction is San Diego 16 – Broncos 20 based on a wing and a prayer and the hope that Von Miller and Dumervil own Rivers most of the game.

  11. Crazyhorserider says:

If our defence is healthy then hopefully they will prevail and then all Orton has to do is manage the game and cut out the mistakes and turnovers.

If Cutler was still here we would definitely win but with Orton we don’t know who is going to turn up. The pressure is getting to him and he is like a dead man walking. I suppose all of us who have been calling for him to be replaced by Tebow have some responsibility in this but I still want Tebow.

I have always wondered what choice of QB from the 3 we have would be made by the players. Any ideas anyone?

  12. sndvl says:

It must have been a curious sensation for John Fox, finding himself minutes deep into a radio interview with no mention of Tim Tebow .

But then, inevitably, the quarterback questions poured out, one after the other, turning the affair into yet another Timmy omnibus for the Broncos coach.

The radio guys wanted to know the difference between Florida’s Tebow of legend — where he’s idolized in bronze — and Denver’s Tebow, a man shoved to the sideline, forced to watch Kyle Orton attempt to dig the Broncos out of one mess after the other.

“It’s not the same as college,” Fox told San Diego’s XEPRS-AM on Wednesday (via SportsRadioInterviews.com ). “It is a different game. You’ve got to come in and learn a new system. You’ve got to learn different coverages. It’s just a different game, and it takes a minute for any rookie, in particular at quarterback, which may be the hardest position in sports to know and learn.”

It won’t do anything to quell amassed Tebowites, but Fox believes the second-year pro someday will make an impact.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Tim Tebow will be a good quarterback in this league,” Fox said. “I think with no offseason (because of the NFL lockout), that hurts some growth. It’s just a lot to put on a young player.”

A young player who’s the subject of billboards in a city burning for a winning football team.

There’s no question that Fox is carefully weighing how to best use Tebow — and how to turn around the Broncos — but if the hope of a winning season slips any farther away, we expect Tebow fans to receive their wish.

  13. sndvl says:

Looks like Chad Henne is done for the year. Going with Matt Moore and signing Sage Rosenfels. Lol!!! I wonder what Marshall thinks…on second thought…I don’t want to know.

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

Hands down Orton is the best…..the best QB to ever play..no matter what he does he gets a free pass….fumble…free pass…..ints…free pass…..falls on his face…..free pass…….runs into the back of the Olinemen….free pass…..sacks….free pass…..throws short…free pass!

Hell the man can do no wrong!
We must be crazy to want him to be replaced…WTF is wrong with us???

  18. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Trevor in Oakland would truly disgust me.

TT is ready. Kid was born ready. Its just the organization thats not ready. Either way … I can wait. Not my job on the line.

    Later days, TRB out..

  19. henryac says:

trb, you hit it, dude. It has nothing to do with TT and everything to do with EFX. I don’t think Fox knows how to coach him and doesn’t want to be the guy that makes a mess out of it. I can’t figure out why all the “talking heads” always say you have to tailor the offense to a young QB and let him grow into it, Newton, Dalton, Ponder, etc. but TT is supposed to step in and “take over” and existing offense they way it is or he “will never play in the NFL,”. Can’t have it both ways, girls! IMHO, either you adapt your offense to the QB you have or you are being lazy and irresponsible as a coach. Goes the same for Orton,, Quinn, Tebow or any other QB. Pro coaches and coaching staffs are supposed to be better and more professional than that.

  20. thechampplummer says:

i just heard trevor is going to Oakland…wow…. thats nasty. im glad Doom is back (hopefully) PLEASE lets win a div game at home…these are must wins… for standings and pride. you guys think we can get this one?

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Bronco organization boot licker specialist Klis is having completely different Tebow escalators figures posted today than the original ones that were posted by the DP back when Tebow’s contract was signed. For those who can tell who is lying and who is not, and who actually care to listen to what Klis has to say about it:

    http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_19059551

  22. baylinorcrush says:

I did not go to Harvard school of business or nothing like it, but how do you reconcile what is stated today by Klis to what he stated about it when the details of Tebow’s contract came out last year as you can see for yourself here:

    http://www.denverpost.com/broncos2009/ci_15667056?source

    The figures don’t match!

    Whatsoever!

Klis says whatever exonerates the organization best of any questionable doings they are under fire for.

    Klis is an idiot peon.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

All that set aside I totally agree with TRB above who was backed up on it by henryac:

“TT is ready. Kid was born ready. Its just the organization thats not ready. Not my job on the line.”

And some of this article by Woody today brings some of this out too:

I asked coach John Fox earlier this week if he put Tebow in the game just — paraphrasing here — to appease fans who had been calling for Tebow.

“I mean, No. 1, Tim Tebow is not our starting quarterback, all right,” the coach said. “He was in our first (scripted) 15 plays, and there’s an element of Tim playing quarterback in a type of offense in that position that can be beneficial to the Broncos. . . . It could be the run game . . .

“The hard part of the National Football League is to master one offense, and if we spend too much time trying to master another one, there’s not enough time that goes around.”

“Let me just clarify. Tim Tebow knows our base offense as well as Brady Quinn does, Adam Weber (practice-squad rookie), for that matter, and Kyle Orton. Tim has some unique skills unlike maybe the other three, that could be used in a quarterback run-oriented offense. I don’t know that the other three have those abilities, and primarily to run the ball. The nice thing about that is it creates problems for the defense, in the sense that you have an extra man when the quarterback can run. So those are the types of plays that we have special (for Tebow).”

“We’ve got a first-round draft pick in Tim Tebow that was a Heisman Trophy winner. Very popular. An outstanding young man. (He’s) going to be a heck of a quarterback in time, and is getting better every day. But we had an open competition, all right. Kyle Orton was named the starter. . . . There might be noise on the outside. Our locker room is very comfortable with where we are. Not so much (with the) record, but where we are moving forward at all positions, not just the quarterback position.”

I don’t know how much Fox clarified you guys’ mind about it, but it sure doesn’t do much for me, LOL, the only thing it clarifies is he has no idea how to handle a QB like Terbow because he’s never had anything close to that. To listen to him he might as well put him on the RB chart.

Fox is definitely not ready for Tebow, that is the bottom line, not the other way around as much as he wants us to believe it. Newton is playing ok last I heard, isn’t that the guy with only one year starting in college, or something like that, yeah way better credentials than Tebow, whatever. That’s why you got set aside in Carolina Fox, because you would of never picked Newton in the draft. It might turn out to be the second best thing Carolina ever did, firing you, the first one being when they hired you, oh my, how things change in the NFL.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

    Sorry about Terbow, Tebow.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

    Actually Turbo Tebow sounds good!

  26. BroncosRmyReligion says:

The Broncos are -6 in the turnover margin, which is tied for 30th in the NFL and have 11 giveaways.

I wonder how many of those are Ortons?

But hey he gives us the best chance to win, a couple more giveaways and we should be 32 in turnovers and we will be beating everyone for last place.

    As Charlie would say “WINNING”

  27. collies10 says:

Welcome back bay and I like the Turbo Tebow name lol.

Orton will not be here next year so what I want to know is what are we planning for? Maybe he is gonna go with a whole new scheme next year. Denver are lining up without a Quarterback.

“He gives us our best chance of winning” Yeah right!! He gives us our best chance of having no fan base come November. Get the kid on and lets see this young man bust a gut (not for money) but for pride, for team mates for the fans.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, I obviously came up with that by accident, Turbo Tebow.

    And good to be back.

“He gives us our best chance of winning”, says Fox.

    The question is then:

    Winning what?

4 games, 5 games, maybe even 6 if I’m lucky since that’s my prediction, haha, then what???????????????????

Orton next year for 6 more wins, or maybe 8?

Tebow traded and drafting a new QB is the only thing that would make sense the way this QQ has been handled so far.

    Stupid QQ.

    Now you know EFX.

That one is all your creation.

    Good luck with all that.

Lots of jobs depending on the QQ….

  29. killerkod says:

Welcome back bay……………missed you round here this week. There’s been a lot of posting in your absence and I’ll give you one guess as to what the majority of the talk has been about? LOL

btw – someone predicted a score of 80-0……….is that counted as an official prediction? LOL Now that’s WOS material right there!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

killerkod, no, and here is a re-post from yesterday afternoon where you’ll get my answer about that 80-0 prediction, plus other things others might have missed too:

    Back on solid ground!

    Well sort of, haha.

    I mean, not here, LOL.

    Me on solid ground literally.

Man I should know betterr than taking any time off smack in the middle of the season, it took me hours to get through all the blogs and posts of the last three days to gather all the predictions, but mission accomplished and whatever you guys have been fed on here while I was gone must of been washed down with a mouth full of Orange kool aid because so far we have 23 bloggers predicting us to beat the Chargers and only 10 losing to them!!!

    What happened???

    What did I miss??

    Just kidding, LOL.

Anyhow as far as predictions are concerned there was a blogger a thousand post ago or so and I can’t remember his handle who predicted this particular score if something happened and a totally different score if it didn’t, well sorry buddy but if you want in you gotta make up your mind one way and one way only and go with only one score.

    dchale,

no way I’m taking your prediction of an 80-0 Bronco win or I would make a mockery of our little in-house contest, so if you want in predict a NFL football score and leave the sarcasm out of it thanks.

    Royalty,

glad I could give you a belly laugh the other day, squirrels never rest…

    shaztah,

    thanks for the kind word.

I see my QQ is alive and well and I am not needed to let it fester among you friends, LMAO.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

Just like the first game against the Raiders could turn out being one the most important game of our season even so many laughed me off on that assumption of mine, this one is now the most important once again:

    Division game.

    At home.

    0-1 in the division.

    1-3 overall.

And then a whole bye week to reflect on whatever the outcome is.

Talk about a crappy week off coming up, or a real good one!

    Daunting prospect.

    Mega size pressure.

We’ll see the true color of this team, because as most of you now think reading these blogs and your predictions, it’s winnable since the Chargers are just a shadow of how good they once were, time to put up or shut up is what’s pretty much at stake here.

BIG, BIG, BIG game indeed on Sunday, don’t miss it, LOL.

  31. killerkod says:

thanks bay………………did you have much luck fishing? what do you fish for down in Texas? (I believe that’s where you are, right?)

  32. baylinorcrush says:

I used to do lots of saltwater fishing when I lived in Pensacola, Florida for 16 years, kind of like what Coop loves to do. Freshwater fishing does not interest me, sold all my rods. Lake Travis, Austin, Texas is where the “Orange Crush” port of call is now.

  33. henryac says:

Bay, what I got out of all that drivel is an HC with a player he has absolutely no idea how to use. Apparently, nobody else has any idea how to use him, either. That isn’t Tebow’s fault, or Orton’s, or Quinn’s. That is the HC and the coaching staff with their heads somewhere they don’t need to be. When I was in the military, we referred to it as recto-cranial inversion! Here’s a novel thought, why don’t you put him and Quinn in and let them actually run the offense and see how they do? Then you know what you can and can’t do and what you need them to improve on. Oh, BTW, you might try actually coaching them rather than just ignoring them all the time! Both he and Quinn have gotten very good at standing on the sidelines playing with their shoulder pads so I don’t think they need any more work in that area. The point to these wanderings is that Fox is still running around trying to blow sunshine up everybody’s skirts when in fact the problem is he has not a clue as to how to attack the situation without coming off as a complete moron because of some of the statements he has made in the past. Too bad, Stud, but that is why you get paid the big bucks so suck it and deal with it!

  34. killerkod says:

So, here it is again…………..the same old scenario each week. Do I predict with my blue and orange heart, or with my brain and the cold hard facts about our team this season.

Cold hard facts win this time…………

    SD 24
    Den 17

You can’t discount River’s record against us. He ALWAYS gets amped up to beat the broncos…………and I don’t ever see that changing. Even with the return of champ and doom, he’ll find a way.

    UGH!

    PROVE ME WRONG BOYS!

  35. baylinorcrush says:

Couldn’t agree more, Fox is QB clueless, in Carolina or here. Armadillo has stated that in much more unflattering terms here many times.

  36. seweatherman1 says:

There is one person on the team that knows how to use Turbo Tebow (I like that Bay. You have penned another classic sure to stick!). That person being Studs. He figured out exactly how to use him last year and it only took a couple of games to do it. My guess is if he would have had more games to go, last year record may have been a bit better than it turned out. Fox needs to do 2 things. 1. stop with all of this bull of qb competition. We all know there was no such thing. And 2. Figure out, as Studs did last year; how to just “release the beast” so we stand a little better chance winning some games.

  37. baylinorcrush says:

I mean, let’s get serious, only a QB clueless HC can create a QQ of this magnitude…. Trying to trade your starter and not succeeding, LMAO!!!

  38. baylinorcrush says:

    The Triple Threat:

    Tim “Turbo” Tebow.

  39. henryac says:

The part I really have a hard time with about Fox and his comments is, why not just shut up completely? I was always told, when you find yourself at the bottom of a whole, it is usually best to stop digging! Let the OC or somebody else talk about it or maybe JE, because about the only thing you are doing is making it worse. Everybody knows who made the decision so trying to rationalize it doesn’t add anything to the discussion since the basic logic of the whole situation was flawed from the beginning. It just makes you look even more confused.

  40. seweatherman1 says:

Hey Fox, it is time to bring your nose out of the clouds and get back to reality. You have not snowed anyone. It is time to “Release the beast!” Tim “Turbo” Tebow! (*CLUE: If you don’t know how, just ask Studs. I am sure he will help you with some good advise.)

  41. killerkod says:

If I could believe that our offence is able to score more than 24 points, I would’ve taken our team to win.

My prediction is also stating that we will be down by a TD late in the game, we will have the ball with 2 minutes left. Orton will move the chains to mid field and will then either a) fumble the ball or b) throw an INT. I’m leaning more towards b) but either way he will once again choke under the pressure and lead our team to another check in the L column.

  42. seweatherman1 says:

OMG henryac, my dad used to say that very same thing. Only difference, he usually threw in some “colorful” wording, if you know what I mean.

  43. sndvl says:

Killerkod, you must then believe that our defense will once again, give up a 13 play 85 yard drive, converting 3 3rd downs and a 4th along the way?

Because as likely as it is that Orton will throw (or fumble) the game away in the waning minutes, then it’s just as likely the defensive scenario will play out. Cause it has in ALL 3 of our losses!

  44. killerkod says:

While I don’t think they’ll give up almost 50 points……….they’ll still give up big yardage and scores…..especially on third and longs……which has been the most frustrating thing for me about this D so far. 1st and 2nd downs they are monsters and then they just lose it on 3rd down. UGH!!!

Don’t get me wrong………..I think they’re improving but it will take a lot more time and more talent in key positions.

  45. raidrhadr says:

Hey bay welcome back. Loved salt water fishing when I was active duty living in Jax Florida, Virginia Beach VA and various others for a short time including Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Huge snapper and grouper down there. Bonefish too.

killerkod: I dont think we are being aggresive enough on those 3rd down situations. With Doom getting healthy I hope that changes.

    My prediction:

    Pooper chargers 27
    Persuers of Luck 17

Stanford playing the Buffs this weekend too. I intend to watch that and get a look at him.

  46. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, plus Kings, cobia, amberjack and spanish, lots of fish to catch to eat, that was the main attraction to me, freshwater fish just isn’t very good. Definitely miss all that but made the best of it.

  47. baylinorcrush says:

And red fish, man deep frying that with zatarain is killer.

  48. raidrhadr says:

Loves me some Mackerel. Caught alot of spanish macks in FL. I miss catching the mutton and cubera snapper in Cuba the most though. Yummy. Loved catching the red drum too. Striper out of the Chesapeake Bay is fun for sure. Don’t dismiss the joys of catching and eating rainbow and brown trout out of the Colorado streams and lakes. It might not be as sporting but they are quite tasty. Coop would love this conversation.

  49. killerkod says:

wow, a lot of fish I’ve never heard of…..

To us in Newfoundland…………the Cod is KING! Not much other varieties of salt water fish to catch and eat up here in north east waters of the Atlantic…..cept for halibut and atlantic salmon.

But we do have the best lobsters in the world!

  50. baylinorcrush says:

Coop has got the means to do some sport fishing though, a little different, blues and whites and dolphin and tuna, real expensive type of fishing that was pretty much out of my reach both with my boat and wallet, LOL. I usually went up to like 12 miles out and blue water was at least 60 miles out, gotta get a second mortgage on your house just to afford the gas to get there….
