Gameday Preview: Von Miller on Cover

September 29th, 2012 - 10:36am by Gray Caldwell

When the Broncos take on the Oakland Raiders this Sunday, fans that head to Sports Authority Field at Mile High will receive a Gameday program with linebacker Von Miller on the cover.

The cover story, titled “Still Hungry,” focuses on Miller’s hard work to build on his rookie season that featured a trip to the Pro Bowl and Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Miller’s determination to improve was not lost on defensive end Elvis Dumervil.

“All offseason, he’s been wanting to work,” Dumervil said. “He told me he wanted to be a better all-around linebacker, and he’s displaying that. He’s just making all his weaknesses better. That will be scary, because he does a lot of things great, so if he can work on his weaknesses, it’s going to be a problem.”

Through three games this season, Miller’s hard work appears to have paid dividends, quickly erasing any possibility that his stellar rookie season was merely a flash in the pan. In the season opener against Pittsburgh, Miller dropped Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger twice and added two more tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He recorded his third sack of the season a week later against Atlanta.

“He’s becoming more of a professional — I can see that,” Dumervil said. “He’s growing as a more professional player overnight. He takes his job seriously. There’s a reason why he was the No. 2 pick and the defensive rookie of the year. A guy like Von, he wants to show he’s worth every penny of it. That’s what he’s coming out to do. He loves the game.”

The program also features a Q&A with tight end Jacob Tamme and a “Get to Know” session with Miller’s position coach, Linebackers Coach Richard Smith.

The cover story and Q&As with Tamme and Smith will all be posted to DenverBroncos.com next week.

Patience, patience, patience! Peyton himself said this wasn’t going to happen over night. I think we win tomorrow, big time.

  2. Joe says:

I would like to have one of these programs and one from last week. Where can I order these?

    *game prediction*
    24-17 Broncos win

  4. strandoftds82 says:

The faiders are one dimensional and don’t have much of a running game. Palmer is at best a average QB. He’s boring to watch actually. If our O-Line gives Manning time, he’ll pick apart the secondary. And the faiders secondary is a weak one, one of the worst in the NFL.

  5. tlcat06 says:

@Denver_Broncos: The #Broncos have signed LB Mike Mohamed and S Duke Ihenacho to the active roster. S Quinton Carter has been placed on injured reserve.

  6. tlcat06 says:

Strand. I hope the Broncos are taking this seriously and not thinking like you and me. You get beat when you underestimate the opponent. Just ask the 49ers.

  7. DaddyBronc says:

Strand – Did you mean not much of a passing game? With Daring McFaider (Darrin McFadden aka – Mc Madden, etc. etc. etc.) coming to town….that’s a running game right there my friend!!!

Just wondering when the Broncos are going to be able to again afford a McFadden, Maurice JD, Ray Rice, etc? Herein lies the problem with PMS!!!

  8. wolfedom says:

Daddy many teams have a player making as much or more than PM. Buffalo comes to mind and how about Dumerville, I haven’t heard the complaining over his salary. PM is as big an upgrade as we could get so I have no problem with them paying him. I do have a problem with Decker and Thomas missing easy catches and a D that can’t get off the field. just saying

  9. DaddyBronc says:

What a day!!! We ended up spending the day around Santa Cruz and Anacapa. (Decided to spend more time fishing and less travelling.) Between the four of us we caught 61 fish plus one great one that jumped overboard and another 6 that we put back. (I like Sand Dabs and we caught a lot of them, as well as our fair share of Rock fish, Whitefish, and Mackerel – for Catfishing later.)

One guy caught 2 fish. My son caught 12. Our friend, boat owner, Captain, caught 11 including the largest fish onboard. The rest were mine. I had that line going up and down 180 – 350 feet all day. It seemed I just couldn’t miss.
I had to take off the sweatshirt by 9 am and spent the rest of the day in just a T-shirt.
The trip back was through 4-6ft. choppy waves and swells in a ’24 ft. Skipjack. I’ve never attempted to drink more of the ocean than I did yesterday. LOL
Thanks for allowing me to share!!!

  10. tlcat06 says:

Wolfe, I have your back big time. Peyton’s pay check is the least of our worries. He’s getting it done. If theyd stop dropping balls that’d be nice.

  11. strandoftds82 says:

Thanks for the info Ticat06! That’ll be cool to see Ihenacho S if he gets onto the field. I’m interested in watching him play. Rather fun stuff. I hope Duke plays well for us.

  12. strandoftds82 says:

Daddy Bronc, McFadden is injured a bit and not as explosive as in the past. I won’t under estimate him but the faiders Offense stinks this year so far. We’ll find out tomorrow! HaHa!

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

Raiders have a great run game. Bad passing game that got worse with Heyward-Bay being out. Bad OL as well. On D they arnt the best at stopping the run and are awful at stopping the pass and have allowed 4 100+ yard WRs in three games. They also lack a good pass rush.

  14. strandoftds82 says:

Yeah, our WR’s are dropping far too many balls that come their way. Decker and DMT need to fix that bad habit like ealier this week to get the Offense rolling. You don’t see B. Stokes with any drops now do ya?!

  15. strandoftds82 says:

AB, their DT’s are decent Seymour is a beast still, but thats it, no DE pressure whatsoever.

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yea Strand they have good DTs. But they dont cause that much QB pressure they are good at stopping the run but if you run outside they arnt a worry. Their LBs are ok at stopping the run.

  17. strandoftds82 says:

    Well said bro.

  18. strandoftds82 says:

AB, so the babys still due around Thanksgiving week?

  19. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yea Strand they are. Have to go up to Anchorage next friday for a docs appointment for the fiancee but good thing is that the 4th we get our PFDs. 878$ this year which is good. Get to go shopping as well. Lol.

I hope we can dominate tomorrow and send a message. But I wont be able to watch it which sucks.

  20. strandoftds82 says:

That part is a bummer bro. My b-day is Thanksgiving week too. I laugh if she gives birth to them on the same day. LOL

  21. alaskanbronco06 says:

Lol it would be funny if she did.

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

I think a call for patience is just an insult considering we have been told by the FO that there is ‘No Plan B’… that means Plan A better be a Darn Good One… I won’t pass judgement as to how we have performed so far, as you all know exactly how I feel about the way our organization positioned itself for 2012, but to openly state you have no back-up plan makes it un-reasonable to assume that anyone should have any patience for losing at all…

  23. Bronco_Turtle says:

I think I would like to use one of my 3 Bronco Wishes (every fan gets 3 a year you know) and simply ask for a win against the Raiders Tomorrow… I don’t care if it’s Broncos 3 Raiders 0. *Official Broncos Wish #1* BEAT THE RAIDERS

  24. alaskanbronco06 says:

Heyward-Bay has officially been ruled out for tomorrows game. Big hit to a already mediocre passing game.

  25. louisianabroncofan says:

a call for patience is an insult? not really turtle, manning is coming into a completely new offense and team after spending 13 seasons somewhere else. of course there needs to be patience there. no one can expect a person in that situation to be stellar immediately. you take manning and pay him for what he is overall, not because you think he’s gonna get back where he was after spending 13 years perfecting what he was doing elsewhere in one or even 3 or 4 games here. patience in this situation is absolutely a no brainer. so far we have performed well on offense considering, and are showing big signs of promise for the games ahead. the insult is insenuating that the offense should be in superbowl form immediately and the ‘plan a’ has exactly ‘right now’ to be working to perfection or its a ‘disaster due to the way the organization positioned itself…’ blah blah blah. what kind of plan doesnt require some sort of growing pains or adjusting period. i mean talk about unfair. its ‘work now’ right off the bat or a failure? ya ok maybe in turlteville. you say plan a better be a darn good one. well guess what?? IT IS.

  26. louisianabroncofan says:

we will beat the raiders. that much i do know. whats up ab? been awhile turtle! looks like i missed strand and cat.

  27. Bronco_Turtle says:

That is one way to look at lou! But not the way I see it so Kudo’s to your side on 1-2, but it goes way beyond Manning… the Plan A involved all the Broncos last I checked, and right now we are almost last in Defensive 3rd down effeciency… These problems go Way beyond Peyton, We missed out on alot to wait for Peyton and our DL is miserable… We are losing in lots of areas of football right now and that all has to change or we won’t be .500

  28. Bronco_Turtle says:

It’s been a long while Lou… hows work?

  29. louisianabroncofan says:

lets keep in mind guys this is not mannings last year. I say he has 3 after this one. i wouldnt argue with someone who disagrees and puts it at 2 tho. i’m reallly believing he has 3 more after this one. also depends on how good os looks over the next few seasons.

  30. louisianabroncofan says:

man i’m busy as i’ve ever been. its been tough to do anything but work these last few months and normally its slowed down by now but nope, not this year. still kicking. i’m gonna roll with it tho because the slow times will be here, just a matter of when!

  31. Bronco_Turtle says:

It’s good to be busy! I’m not down on PM really Lou, I understand the Growing pains of learning a new offense, it’s the whole team aspect that concerns me. Peyton will or won’t play better, nothing I can do about it but for sure if they all don’t step it up, especially running the Rock/Defensive 3rd Downs we won’t be seeing many victories

  32. louisianabroncofan says:

and i agree. problems go way beyond manning. i cant remember a worse 3rd down d. and that really makes it tough to watch the game sometimes. I like our dlines progress against the run but the pass rush is bad. real bad and this league chews up and spits out teams with no pass rush. that could be trouble in the long run. i only hope del rio has some defensive tricks to bring the pressure and get teams off the field on 3rd down. the d deserves some patience too imo.

  33. louisianabroncofan says:

when peyton manning gets to form the whole team will get better. thats the other kicker here. he can literally take a bad team to the superbowl, as he’s actually done it before, and we are not a bad team, just weak in some areas. thats why you go get manning. and i’m glad we did. the rest will work itself out once things get clicking with manning.

  34. Bronco_Turtle says:

:) Patience you need when fishing/teaching a child or a Horse… these guys are professionals and paid to win!!! That’s why we pay to watch… It might get better, it might get worse but I am not ashamed to say that I look for victories every sunday and get frustrated at the pattern of losing that has recently been established here

  35. Bronco_Turtle says:

Be back in a little while, i’m at my Grandma’s in Nebraska so I will have some time to chat later! Nice to talk to you Lou

  36. louisianabroncofan says:

manning frustrates the opponent, wears out their d, keeps our d fresh, gets us ahead getting the other team desperate and making mistakes, scares them on gameday and gets all their attention during the week leading up to the game allowing other unexpected aspects of our game plans to excel. he even helps create those plans. when someone like manning dominates the way he does, it literally makes the entire team hard to beat because of it. again, thats why you go get manning.

  37. louisianabroncofan says:

yep, later turltle. i’m off to sit on the couch and watch football. pouring down rain here so its perfect sit down and watch football weather. my 1st saturday off in a lllloooonnnngggg time too. imma enjoy it!!!

  38. tlcat06 says:

Wow. Perhaps you should think like a Browns fan, who would kill to have the team we do, BT. They’ve had more patience than anybody, them and the Bills. And I don’t see their fans leaving or acting like Bronco fans are. I have patience because Elway had 15 years to win a SB and yes he took bad teams to the SB but it took him 15 years and the right personnel to win. Maybe we have that now, maybe we don’t, but I’M going to HAVE patience and see how this all works out before I complain about how much money they’re making to lose games. We are lucky enough to be fans of the greatest team in NFL history. Act like it! Love them whether we win or lose! The Bills and the Browns would love to have even half the talent we have. One of my good friends is a Browns fan and he tells me all the time how important it is to have patience. It’s overall a work in progress and if those fans can stick through all the crap they’ve stuck through and still support their team, while by God! I’m not going anywhere! GO BRONCOS!!!!

  39. tlcat06 says:

LBF, sorry I missed you buddy! Dad and I went up on the mountain and took the four wheelers out to check out the gorgeous orange and yellow trees. They turned early this year, but it was tons of fun!
