Brian Dawkins isn’t worried about how he’ll feel in December.
Right now his focus is on Week 2. But he still appreciates the way Head Coach John Fox designs his practices to keep players fresh throughout the season.
“We do what we need to do, get out of practice what we need to get out of it,” Dawkins said. “At the same time, (Fox) is always preaching about being fresh — fresh in the mind and fresh legs. For me, obviously, that’s beneficial.”
Fox talked about that philosophy Thursday when asked about how he ran training camp.
“I think having fresh players counts, especially in December,” he said. “People remember what you do in December, and we’ve always prided ourselves on finishing strong. You’ve got to rest them. It’s a marathon, it’s not a sprint, and you train different for a marathon. Whether it’s camp or our in-season schedule, we do our best to improve and get better in all three phases as well as keep the players fresh so they can play on Sundays.”
Dawkins felt plenty fresh in Week 1, when he led the team with nine tackles in his 26th appearance on Monday Night Football.
“‘Dawk’ is incredible,” Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen said, talking about the number of big hits the safety made on Monday. “That’s the way he plays the game and he’s always played the game that way. That’s what has allowed him to play the game for so long.”
Dawkins said he expects Fox’s practice schedule to pay dividends as the season progresses — but he’ll concern himself with that when the time comes.
“Let’s take care of business now and worry about that then,” he said.
INJURY REPORT
Champ Bailey (hamstring), Elvis Dumervil (shoulder), Brandon Lloyd (groin), Knowshon Moreno (hamstring), Demaryius Thomas (finger), Marcus Thomas (shoulder/groin), Ty Warren (triceps) and D.J. Williams (elbow) did not participate in Thursday’s practice.
A number of those players came out to the field to watch their teammates practice, however.
Below are photos from Thursday’s session.

After reading the article and listening to the video, there is absolutely no comparison between Elway and Orton. Like Bay says above. Orton has been in this league for a while and that was Elway’s first season and start. All this article does for me is to emphasize the fact that we need to get these rookies out there on the field and get them the experience that they so desperately need.
Hey Bay, after the possible scenario you just put about lloyd … (I believe someone else mention it like yesterday or something too) … still think Marshall was the selfish one? No saint sure, but its a WR trait, all show offs except for maybe Larry Fitz, Andre and Calvin Johnson. But they know they the sh*t too …. lol. But im sure what you will say is at least lloyd does nothing dumb off field and I hear ya but my boy fought for every yard on sundays. TRB
Like I said, nothing I hear now makes any sense anymore, LOL, and what part of me taking a break didn’t you understand, man I can’t take a break!
I don’t say much on these blogs…and with the current state of affairs, I remain even more speechless.
Nonetheless,
Broncos 21
Bengals 20
Go Broncos!
More like I can’t get a break, but I am taking one, no matter how many stupid things are thrown my way, I feel stupid enough as is after listening to all that B.S. info from our Broncos for a day.
I emailed an old HS coach of mine, when I was the best damn QB2 in the state…. lol seriously though. I asked him his opinion on Denver’s run game.
Steve,
Mike Shanahan implemented a zone blocking scheme that was the most efficient against a 3-4 defense. It requires an exceptionally intelligent line with veteran leadership. It increases the opportunity for a pulling guard to pick up a blitzing line backer and possibly a blitzing Strong Safety. It also prevents Defensive Line stunts from being dominating. Confusing blitz packages and run defenses out of the 3-4 are best handled with zone blocking and two backs in the backfield. Unfortunately The Broncos just do not have that. I am not certain the exact defensive schemes they face every week, as you know I don’t watch the NFL much and definitely not AFC teams and especially the Broncos. As for power running/ blocking out of primarily single back formations, a 3-4 with the absence of extremely talented lineman and no Fullback to pick up a missed defender by the line, it now falls on the back to be able to make the first defender miss. With out a good back, that is capable of making the first guy miss, or running through him the outlook becomes very bleak.

Quotes from Dove Valley; Blah, blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah. SO THERE!!!!
Interesting thing about my old coach. He asked me once my junior year. Why did you come to this school? You know we are an option team. I said, well coach I was zoned for this school. It’s where both of my brothers went.
I couldn’t run the option to save my life. So there I was, on the sideline, wandering what if, what if I got a zone variance and went to a school who would at least pass more than 5 times a game? I worked my arse off everyday, trying to run the option. No dice, it just was not in my DNA. Unfortunately I am seeing a certain player on the Denver side line in similar circumstances.
DO,Damn dude 500 bucks on beer, how much does beer cost on a plane (never been on one and never will) if God wanted me to fly,he would have given me wings, that’s why my white a$$ stays on the ground, lol.
TRB,good post about the “Beast” (I will always call him that).Me and you are probably the only 2 guys on here that will never let it go!!!
btw,I never wish injuries last long especially to our own players, but it will be interesting to see who Orton locks onto Sunday, especially if Moreno don’t play,it’ll have to be Decker,Royal,or Fells. Why the Hell dosen’t Thomas or Green get in on the passing game,I thought that’s why we drafted them, drafting players and not using them for the talent you see is stupid!!!
Maybe we`ll see Thomas or Green this week. not sure.
Broncos 24 – Bengals 13 …
BFE, you afraid to fly bro?
Hell yeah!!!!!!!!
freaking terrified!!!!
Yea the Broncos PR this week has my head spinning as well. Fox says the billboard thing will have 0 impact on him, I find that to be BS. I mean it’s the politically correct thing to say but as a first year coach with the team, he has to be careful not to anger the fanbase or else he might end up on a billboard lol.
Loved the Decker article, thinking he’s my next jersey purchase. He was the only player I predicted correctly when we all tried to guess our 2010 draft. Gotta love the tough no-nonsense style he plays with. It’s been said hundreds of time but he definitely represents the number 87 the way it should be.
Not sure how many of you guys follow the older broncos on twitter. Rod Smith is definitely a good one to follow. So passionate about the Broncos, definitely a Bronco for life. We need more of those guys on our team now.
All these injuries leave my prediction very sketchy. I’ll take a stab regardless
Broncos 20
Bengals 13
Don`t want to shame ya bro?
Interesting about good ol Brandon. In Miami’s game, Henne missed 2 throws in a row in the end zone. 1 was un catchable, the second was thrown so that even if he did catch it, no way he could have scored. Then the announcers started blasting Marshall! Talking about, he wants the ball thrown to him he has to start playing better. Something along those lines. I reminisce, all the blasting I did against him. I sure would like to have him on our squad right now.
By asking.
strand,not ashamed of it,just something I can’t do!
about the billboards and John Fox. He brought that one on himself imo. He said he didn’t hear the Tebow chants. Really? He did, he should have addressed and moved on. People react when they feel ignored.
Careful BFE, you might get another Q started. We’ll call this one the RQ for Receivers Quadmire.
BFE,
Beer is 5 bucks for a 12oz can it’s a 2 1/2 hour flight and ever since Mondays defeat I have become more depressed then I was at the end of the 4 win season last year. And I’m flying Allegiant so I have better odds of the broncos winning then the plane landing without a hitch! lol
I think it’s a fear of heights man,I remodel houses and hardly ever climb over 30-40 feet, anything any higher I make somebody else do it!
Just for kicks and giggles I looked up the NFL 2012 mock draft to see what players and positions are out there and who they are last night. Just a 5 minute browse. Kinda getting a glance of the future since we`ll be a top 5 pick again.
se,bay was talking about Orton and LLoyd trying to pad their stats,I was just Broncin’ to TRB about the “Beast”,that’s all!!
Strand,
Lets just say we get the 3rd overall pick throw tim tebow on it and trade it for the 1st pick to get Luck?
I `m the same. I build ICF homes, Insulated Concrete Forms. I`m on Scaffolding half the day when I`m working. Jobs are scarce at the moment of course. But yes I`m afraid of heights also. But to fly it`s different for me, call it faith I guess.
Tebow stays!!!!
Doranges,
You are flying in right after the rain! i saw that the east was red at dawn, so it may rain again. Where is Denver +3? At most casinos they are -5. BTW if your looking for a great Sportsbook to watch games Sunday, I recommend the Hilton. Awesome, awesome place. No matter where you go however, $1 beer and hot dogs are the norm during football games.
and beverage servers make referee uniforms look pretty damg impressive also… haha
How could Pat Bowlen sit back and let Josh McDaniels dismantle this team. I don’t know about all of you but I’m from a Chicago Bears fan area and when I heard they were trading Cutler to Chicago for Kyle Orton I felt sick to my stomach because I knew how bad he was. All my bears friends laughed. I used to be the one laughing at them because they had Orton. He got rid of all our talent and Pat or Xanders did nothing! I mean I’m just a fan but I knew this was a recipe for disaster! Xanders should be canned for this debacle!
Jsizzla, McD was all about his sytem and not about specific players. It was who can fit into his system. Just saying. I`m still upset about Hillis being gone.
Steve,
I’m popping my betting cherry today never bet on a game unless it was with some friends so I plan on doing what I can when I get there. I thought you could bet however you wanted but I don’t know. My plane doesn’t actually leave tell 9 Pm so hopefully weather is good by then.
DO,5 bucks a beer ain’t too bad,I paid 7 bucks a beer at an AC/DC concert summer before last!
We snuck in some small whiskey bottles tho, haha!
And instead of John Fox we should have pursued Urban Meyer. We were the second worst team in the league and we hired the coach from the worst team?! Doesn’t really make sense to me, if your gonna start over why not try something new Urban Meyer is a proven winner and a great personality, I just don’t get that from Fox. This team will be bad to mediocre for the next couple years and they’ll fire him. Sad to say but that’s what I see..
gotta go guys,later
jsizzla, your not the only one that wants Xanders gone. It has been hashed out quite a bit. It is those like me, that were willing to give him a pass, since McD did have final say. Same with McCoy, those like me, gave him a pass also, because of the control freak McD.
However, I am still not for axing, Xanders. With EFX, we just had a pretty impressive draft. Top two picks, starting. One an instant impact player. That is what the first pick is supposed to be. And now Xanders is all about money conservation, and that comes from the one who signs the checks and n light of this less than I would like advertized three year plan by EFX. So again, I am willing to give Xanders a little leeway.
McCoy is on a much shorter leash. I have seen how Fox worked in Carolina. He tells his coordinators, this is what I want, make it happen. He doesn’t jump in and take control. McCoy is now out of free passes.
I checked it out last week as well strand. Interesting to see the top QB’s. One that hasn’t been mentioned too much is Nick Foles from Univ of Arizona. Luck, Barkley and Jones taking up most of the headlines.
At 6’5″ 240 lbs, Foles looks alot like Hamburgler from Steelers.
This is latest on Foles from SF Chronicle.
“Arizona’s senior quarterback has been sensational. He has completed 76.3 percent of his passes for 810 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions and just two sacks”.
DO,
you can bet however you want. If you want to get crazy look for the “Teasers” they are wild. There are a lot of different options. My best recommendation would be to stick to a 3 or 4 team parlay. Much less complicated. Pick the teams you think will win by the spread and the over/ under. when betting multiple tickets, do not put the same game on multiple tickets. I see it a lot, and unless you have a handi-capper with a 70% winning record, then don’t do it.
If you only want to bet who will win, no spread you can also do that. its called the money line. Just remember -120 you bet 12 to win 10 and + 120 you bet 10 to win 12.
last thing about Vegas…. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But it may stay in Vegas forever, do something really stupid and it gives people like me something to laugh at for a long time. One of the very few perks about working Casino Surveillance.

Hmmm, fits with what my old coach said. but it doesn’t take a genius to figure these things out.
Anyone interesed in watching Luck and Foles go head to head, they play this Saturday evenving at 07:45 pm.
Stanford Cardinal vs. Arizona Wildcats
Should be a good college matchup!
Thanks for the tips Steve I was just in Vegas in August and had so much fun I had to go back this time its with the wife so no strip clubs lol
I am a huge Broncos fan, to which every casual friday at work, I always wear Broncos stuff during football season and quite often other times of the year. While I still support my boys, today I didn’t wear Broncos and a coworker noticed it and mentioned that I don’t wear my stuff as much.
It’s not that I don’t love my team, I do. Just an observation. Anyone else doing that too?
do they have casual Fridays at McDonallds?
sorry just notised how rude that came out
not me, HH27. the only reason I don’t wear a Broncos jersey at work, it because the new General Manager said no jerseys. there was an argument between a raiders and chiefs fan in front of guests, so no more jerseys. But I still sneak my t-shirts or hats on a daily basis. Being on grave yard has its perks and the dress code is the best one!
and being the supervisor, I won’t tell on myself hahah. The person I have to most worry about ratting me out to my director always wears Vikings gear, so we have a mutual don’t say anything going on
LOL, McDonalds!!! Oddly enough, McDs was my first job………… quite a while back.
Then I went in the Army. No casual days there!!!
Now I work for a large communications company. It’s friday casual, and we have a large varied football fan base here. And most often teams are represented well. Just not lately here and that’s not just the Broncos, but the Faiders, Chefs, and Dolts (others too) are not represented well on Fridays.
Again just an observation.
I wear my broncos hat all the time………my broncos lounging pants usually in the evenings…….and I always wear my jersey when I watch the games at home………which usually leads to me pulling it off after the game and throwing it on the floor, cursing at it profusely.
