Free agency began at 10:01 p.m. MST last night, and since then a number of big signings have already occurred. We’ll be blogging all the big news throughout the day.
9:45 a.m. MST: It began late last night with Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who hit the open market for just a short while before he re-signed with Washington.
Then the Redskins were able to sign the biggest free agent prize out there, Albert Haynesworth.
The Patriots got into the mix and are expected to sign running back Fred Taylor, who has spent the entirety of his career up to this point with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It looks like the New York Jets have gotten one of the most coveted free agent linebackers in Bart Scott, and they also were able to re-sign their fullback, Tony Richardson.
So the Ravens have lost one of their best linebackers, and it looks like they may lose another — Ray Lewis may take his services elsewhere for the first time in his career.
The Patriots have been able to take away from the division rival Jets by picking up tight end Chris Baker.
And safety Eugene Wilson was on the market for just a few hours before getting a new deal with his 2008 team, the Houston Texans.
And though it happened before the start of free agency, the Dolphins secured the safety position by re-signing Yeremiah Bell to a new deal and signing Gibril Wilson, who was cut by the Raiders.
9:49 a.m. MST: Here’s a list of Broncos who are now on the market.
Unrestricted: Tatum Bell, Ebenezer Ekuban, Darrell Jackson, Marlon McCree, Tom Nalen, Karl Paymah, Kenny Peterson, Michael Pittman, Jeb Putzier, Patrick Ramsey, Edell Shepherd and Nate Webster.
Restricted: Erik Pears.
Exclusive Rights: Andre Hall.
10:07 a.m. MST: After trying unsuccessfully last year to trade for quarterback Sage Rosenfels, the Vikings have finally done it this year. The Houston backup is now a Viking.
10:23 a.m. MST: There’s a new name on the list of available players: Marques Douglas. The Ravens have just cut the defensive end, making him a free agent.
10:28 a.m. MST: The biggest trade of the day, thus far, has just gone through. The Cleveland Browns have traded tight end Kellen Winslow to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft pick.
10:38 a.m. MST: After losing Scott and cutting Douglas, the Ravens have jumped into the fray by signing cornerback Domonique Foxworth.
The former Bronco spent last season with the Falcons, starting 10 games.
1:36 p.m. MST: Sorry for the delay in posts, but everyone’s gotta eat. So after a little lunch with Kyle Sonneman and PR staffer Patrick Smyth, it’s time to get back to tracking the transactions.
The Patriots are close to completing a trade that would send linebacker Mike Vrabel to the Chiefs.
1:41 p.m. MST: Fourth-year offensive tackle Frank Omiyale joins the Chicago Bears after spending last season with the Carolina Panthers.
And the Bengals have gotten into the mix by re-signing safety Chris Crocker.
1:53 p.m. MST: Guard Chris Kemoeatu has re-signed with his 2008 team, the Steelers.
2:00 p.m. MST: And to update the post a few hours back about Foxworth — he and the Ravens have now reached a deal for his four-year contract.
2:31 p.m. MST: With all the talk about Ray Lewis, I thought I’d link to this little tidbit by Adam Schefter. It seems that Lewis’ relationship with the Ravens is just fine, and he will not make any decisions until Monday.
2:37 p.m. MST: After losing Haynesworth, the Titans have managed to re-sign a couple of their own free agents. They have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with quarterback Kerry Collins, and they also locked up defensive back Vincent Fuller.
3:10 p.m. MST: A couple more running backs have received new contracts around the league. DeDe Dorsey re-signed with the Bengals, and Maurice Morris signed with the Lions after seven seasons in Seattle.
Center Brad Meester has re-signed with the Jaguars.
3:13 p.m. MST: The Saints have reached an agreement with linebacker Jonathan Vilma on a five-year contract.
3:59 p.m. MST: I want to thank everyone for all the great comments on the blog. Free agency is an exciting time in the NFL, and so much is going on.
As Kyle Sonneman noted in a comment below, the Broncos have not announced any official signings. As such, all the news out there are just reports from outside sources. The transactions being reported may very well go through, but until the Broncos announce it, it would be inappropriate for us to report on it as the team’s official site. Once something is made official by the team, we will fill you in completely.
4:41 p.m. MST: You may have noticed the blog is a little sluggish, and we apologize for the problem. With all the activity and traffic on the site, it’s just running a little slow.
But rest assured we’ll keep you informed.
4:56 p.m. MST: Free agent right tackle Stacy Andrews, formerly of the Bengals, will be joining the Eagles, pending a physical today. The two sides have agreed to terms on a contract.
5:00 p.m. MST: After re-signing Meester earlier, the Jaguars have re-signed another one of their free agents — cornerback Scott Starks.
6:58 p.m. MST: Another delay for the drive home and a few errands, and now I’m back at it, catching up on the latest free agency transactions.
10-year veteran tight end Jim Kleinsasser, a second-round pick of the Vikings in 1999, has agreed to a new deal with Minnesota.
7:04 p.m. MST: Another trade is in the works, this one between the Eagles and Jets. Once completed, the Eagles will send cornerback Lito Sheppard to the Jets for a pair of draft picks.
7:07 p.m. MST: And as several of y’all have pointed out, the Redskins have indeed released 12-year veteran cornerback Shawn Springs.
7:11 p.m. MST: The Redskins are keeping their big day in free agency going, and they have added another player to their roster. Washington has reached a deal with former Buffalo Bills guard Derrick Dockery.
7:16 p.m. MST: Also, the deal between the Jets and linebacker Bart Scott has officially gone through. The former Ravens linebacker is now a New York Jet.
7:23 p.m. MST: 2008 marked Takeo Spikes’ 11th year in the league and his first with the 49ers after playing with the Eagles, Bills and Bengals earlier in his career. He has now re-signed with the 49ers on a two-year contract.
7:44 p.m. MST: Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who this last year started 12 games for the injured Carson Palmer in Cincinnati, has signed with the Buffalo Bills.
8:04 p.m. MST: Missed this one a little bit earlier, but safety Sean Considine, formerly of the Eagles, has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It is being reported as a two-year deal.
8:25 p.m. MST: It looks like a few more players have a place to play in 2009. The Jets brought back guard Brandon Moore after releasing him earlier in the offseason. Linebacker Michael Boley, formerly of the Falcons, will likely join the New York Giants. And 11-year veteran Allen Rossum has re-signed with the 49ers.
8:30 p.m. MST: Here’s an interesting bit about Cardinals QB Kurt Warner. Despite leading Arizona to Super Bowl XLIII, Warner has hit the free agent market. The quarterback has said that he’d like to return to the Cards. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
8:56 p.m. MST: Things appear to be slowing down a bit (for now), but stick with us because we’ll keep the blog going throughout the weekend as more news comes in from around the league.

I actually do agree when i saw we would pay a long snapper that much I was mad just because he was on the patriots too very dissapointed in that pickup and the fact that were lookin at two running backs and recievers scares me to hopefullly this turns around though towards defense NOTE TO MCDANIELS WE HAD THE SECOND BEST OFFENSE 29TH ON DEFENSE I THINK ITS OBVIOUS WHAT WE SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON… i guess he was thinking special teams haha
i prefer raji to maualuga…cause there are more LBs in the draft, and we can already put together a decent LB group
Moss…Doom…DJ will…Boss…maybe even larsen(he hits hard)
compared to our line
…. …. ….. …..kenny peterson?
we need to stop with the offensive pick-ups they’re driving me CRAZY!!! we had an outstanding offense last year, 2nd in total yards with 6+ RB’s getting hurt some…we need a d-line, LB’s, and a corner…not a random WR!
halleluja Mike T 26
So of course everybody remembers wen john lynch came to the broncos.. DEFINATELY AWESOME !! he had an imediate impact on the team.. NOW multiply that by 4. Thats wuh u get wit brian dawkins. now this may not be as exciting as other big name free agents buh its definately up there. i love the move. im excited to see wuh happens. U wanna put the icing on the cake.. DRAFT MAUALUGA !! Dawkins maualuga 2009 version of the Orange crush. PLEASE lets make this happen!!
LLATTTTERRRRR DUUUUDDDDEEEESSSSss
bayareabroncosfan_
we are not picking up random players. you need a certain amount of players to be able to compete. so teams will pick up a player that has some talent just to fill a spot. a team is not big name players at all levels of the depth chart
i dont mind offensive pickups for say…its just the pickups we made that i really dont like…we’re giving about 8 mill to three players who have had careers of infutility to be at the bottom of our depth chart (nice of us) we might as well sign rookie FAs to be our 4th WR, and 4th and 5th RBs
I’m not too upset with the RB signings. I love Buckhalter as a physical guy who can pick up the tough yards when we need them. When we had players like this (Pittman, Hillis..), we were winning, but at the end of the year things went south. Cutler had most of his int’s inside the 20 because throwing was our only option. JJ A. is someone who was underperfroming, but might have a resurgence behind a quality O-line like ours. As for our RB’s, all were on I.R. at the end of the year. We need as much toughness in the RB position as in Defense, and it looks like we’re trying to find both. I think the multiple signings of top line players could have us “rebuilt” for 2009!
OH MY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE? Mauluga is not worth the 12th pick he’s garbage, we need a big DT in the Draft or a Corner like Vonte Davis if Raji isn’t there. You better hope that Housh doesn’t end up w/ the Hawks becuase then they won’t need Crabtree and will take Raji instead.
I HOPE THIS NEW G.M. KNOWS ITS FREE-AGENCY TIME.THERE ARE A LOT OF GREAT PLAYERS OUT THERE THAT WILL HELP US OUT LIKE SHAWN SPRINGS,HEY HOW ABOUT DRE’ BLY THAT WOULD BE A GREAT PICK UP,LOL,BERRY(former Bronco).OUR DEFENCE NEEDS HELP BADLY.WE DONT NEED A 80 YEAR OLD SAFETY LIKE DAWKINS SO DONT GO THERE.MIKE BROWN WOULD WORK OUT OK THO.
HEY I HAVE A GREAT IDEA,SINCE OUR DEFENCE REALY SUX,LETS SIGN SOME DEFENSIVE PLAYERS LIKE CANTY,SHAWN SPRINGS,AND RESIGN DRY’ BLY WHO WE SOULD OF NEVER GOTTEN RID OF.INSTEAD OF SIGHNING RB’S AND WR’S. WE HAVE PLENTY OF GOOD 1′S AS IT IS.AND WE DONT NEED A 80 YEAR OLD SAFETY LIKE DAWKINS.
what r u guys talking abt…brian dawkins is the best safety in the game……. i love that sign…. i am so happy
I have not posted in about 5 hours, but just wanted to check in on the latest news. I can’t believe there is some pending deal out there involoving Stokely and Anderson from the texans???!!!WHAT? If Stokely was to leave it would be a big loss. I do not agree with that reasoning or lack there of. The offense was just fine last year if it aint broke don’t fix it. Management should focus on the defensive side of the ball. DL, LB, &CB’s PLEASE!!!!!
I don’t see why you all are freaking out about free agency, the draft should be our main focus, we are in the rebuilding stage, we need to go young and clean house for the guys up their in the age except the o-line and Ekuban, Brian Dawkins was a step up from Manuel and Mcree, but he is a lilttle worn , so lets hope he doesn’t get hurt early.
As far as our Rb situation, we just let a couple running backs go and could use some more versatility and durability at the position being that we don’t have Shannahan anymore there is no telling how our running game will fare
Look idiots.. Mcdaniels pickd up those to rbs for competition.. nd Hillis is definately still in it. nd personally i think hell be the starter next year. Nd i think the broncos have done fine in FA. i hink Gaffney was a great pick up on the O side of the ball. this gives us more options to do 4 and 5 reciever spreads and jus let cutler fling the ball around. i mean the broncs are so deep at wr. marshall, royal, gaffney, stokley. i love it. now we need to pick up dawkins. u dnt believe how big of an impact hell have on the team. go to nfl.com go to his player profile and hit play on the video on the right side of the screen. thats wuh im takn bout. him and lewis with all that vocal leadership on defense. itd be amazing. I know there both old buh u dnt need only young talent to win u need a leader or two to keep the team focused. Im lovin all the movies. if the broncos pick up dawkins and lewis. im gettin a bronco tatted on my back… Im out for now
LLATTTTTEEERRRRR DDDDDDUUUUDDDDDEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!
Please get dawins and lewis
Just listening to Coach McD, you can tell he knows what he’s doing and knows what players will fit our new system offensively and defensively. I hadmy doubts at first thought of the new head coach, but I’m a firm believer that he will restore the orange crush
Ya’all crack me up. I love how a good portion of you are freaking out about the offensive signings, when we had the 2nd best offense in the NFL. And what, the 29th ranked defense? We need help on defense? You don’t say.
Maybe those of you “doubters” should walk into Dove Valley tomorrow, and apply for the job of Head Coach -AND- GM. I know the positions have already been filled, but “McDummy” and Xanders clearly don’t know what they’re doing, and they’re just closing their eyes and pointing (blindly) at random names on a white board list of Free Agents. They point to Gaffney, and they’re like, “Oh, but he plays on offense…. Who cares?! We pointed at him, let’s sign him!” I’m sure that is the way that they’re going about it.
Half of you in here can’t even spell, put together a full sentence, nor use words in the right context. But I’m sure Pat Bowlen would be able to look past that, and hire some of you guys to run his team because you know where the “problem(s)” are…. DEFENSE! So screw the offense, and special teams. All we need is defensive players. Duh! My 6-year-old knows that much!
Keep in mind, that Free Agents have a CHOICE to sign where ever and when ever. Just because you fly someone in, doesn’t mean that they’re obligated to sign. So guys like Ray Lewis, Chris McAlister, Albert Haynesworth, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Canty, etc., etc., etc….. MAY NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE BRONCOS!
So tough stuff. But let’s blame it on McDaniels and Xanders… they must not be pursuing these guys! Because they’re IDIOTS! Right? Also keep in mind that just MAYBE the Broncos are “filling holes” and adding “depth” to the roster right now, specifically offense. That way, they can go all defense in the draft… seeing how it’s “rich” in DTs and LBs, and so on. And then, you can “home grow” your “rebuilt defense”… and it’ll last for years.
So, I’ll be sure to come back in here and laugh at all you “nay sayers” when the Broncos win the Super Bowl next year and/or soon there after. I’m not saying that it’s gonna happen…. but I am saying that I’ll laugh at everyone who can’t spell, but think that they’re the NFL’s best Head Coach and/or GM…. it’s just that the NFL doesn’t know it yet…. because you’re 12.
Now, bring on all the 12-year-olds, complaining, making fun of me and my mom…. calling me stupid, and “I’m not 12, but 13″ and “I know McDaniels is really a McDummy.” I can’t imagine that a “McDummy” would be the OC for the most prolific offense IN NFL HISTORY. But you’re right, he’s an idiot.
Again, bring on the harassment… I know ya’all are out there, and I know you’re coming for me. Just make sure that you proof read to check your spelling and grammar prior to “posting” your comment…. because it only makes you look even more silly and ridiculous when you can’t have an INTELLIGENT argument.
I like the defensive moves we done but we needed to do more and quick, I also am ok with buckhalter and not sure that we needed anymore WR’s. Ryan torain needs to be looked at more and hills could do ok too , marshall, royal and stokley were all we need at those spots. O Maybe young would do ok.
Ok, Dawkins kicks ass- age is not always a bad thing, he had an amazing 2008 year. The philly fans are sad about the chance of losing him so that’s a good sign…
I saw no to ray lewis or shawn springs..i think we should go for canty, mcallister maybe..i don’t want to see any more receivers signed tho, let’s hope stokley stays
As a side note, it’s so surprising how quick people are to judge mcd.. let’s give him a chance! I think we should see how the season goes before calling him a dummy..i mean, he was part of the unstoppable Pats..that says something.
I just feel true fans should be positive and supportive instead of insulting the coach before the first day of FA even ends… with that..
GO BRONCOS!!
83…you need to slow your roll just a lil bit…most people here are commenting and just voicing concerns as to what they believe might better this team…and considering that this is merely a blog in which people are trying to voice opinions on the matters at hand I prefer to look at the substance of the posts as opposed to dissing on people misusage of grammar…in this particular arena I think the substance of an argument is much more important than the eloquence in which it is given…on the other note I do agree that we should be looking towards the draft and I like your point about home growing the defense…I like it because of the fact that this is the way in which our offense is built…it’s all our players and are still fairly young…if the defense is grown in the same way I see us as a power for years to come…but I would like some defensive free agents to help transition all the new help in…and the offensive signings while not directly filling needs provides heat to the incumbents which breeds competition, learning, and in turn better performance…that said I agree with your football sense but I don’t agree with the bashing of other bloggers…”12-year-olds”? is it…well Daddy’s had his say and would like you to play nice with everyone else…
I hope everything works out. Bowlen knew what he was doin, i love shanny but he didnt win with what he was bringin in. he won to super bowls cuz he was an offensive genious with dan reeves talent. i wish they just would have taken his gm duties. GO Broncos
i still think adding Ray lewis is one of the smartest things we can do. Someone tries runnin up the middle on him and dawkins will think twice.(we should have dawkins by tomorrow unless he’s playin us for a bigger contract from philly) We haven’t had a good hard hitting linebacker since Al Wilson and denver was stupid to let him go. lets see somethin happen on the D line eventually. Besides Dumervil we don’t have anything there really.
Does Josh McD not relize we only have Champ for a cornerback lol the other one is Jack Williams, We need to sign a CB NOW i repeat NOW!!!!!. I like Chris McCalister and Philip B , but so far denver has done a ok job.
Everyone needs to slow down and give coach McD a chance I feel he knows exactly what he’s doing chilling at the Nuggets game with Dawkins is a good sign that we might have him tomorrow+ Andre Davis.I would love to see McCalister on the other side of champ and if not they will get someone it’s only day one and we might already have Brian Dawkins he’s a champ to go along with champ so stop being so negative you are starting to sound like them Eagle fans.
our defense would be beast if we added Chris McCalister LCB along with Brian Dawkins FS then Ray Lewis MLB next to SS Renaldo Hill and RCB Champ Bailey omg its too crazy to even imagine but hill isn’t all that good.
I am with you Crush. I think McCalister would be an awesome fit opposite champ. Someone who could actually cover. It has only been one day and i think McD is doin a good job with most of the signings hes gettin. The anderson one is just wrong, Stokley is a great receiver and we shouldn’t be dumpin him. He saved us when he had to play starter.
I could be wrong but I don’t think Stokley is gone yet if anything it’s just more competition for that fourth and fifth wide receiver spot and I don’t see anderson beating out Gaffney or Stokley for the job.Imagine having Marshall,Royal,Gaffney,Stokley, and anderson in a 5 wide receiver set and Buckhalter as a screen option for Cutler to throw to now that would be lovely.
if its a competition its gotta be to scare our top WR’s to work better cause Stokley is sure and so is royal most of the time. B marsh scares me sometimes but he is a beast. The offense this year is gotta be 1st this year with these guys or else its not up to its full potential
I swear, if they get rid of Stokley… I’ll blow a gasket!!! This has been the nuttiest offseason… no need to go insane. McDenver can’t possibly be that stupid.
If we can get Lewis for a reasonable amount… it would be SO TOTALLY worth it. We need someone like him – talent & remarkable leadership, what better combination could you ask for?
And I have never seen so many responses in one day on these blogs… I love it!!! One second no one’s on here, the next there’s almost 400 comments… this is INSANITY!!!!
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!
if we get Lewis and Dawkins there isn’t any reason we shouldn’t be able to turn this defense around this year it would be nice to get McCalister to go with that too.BRONCO NATION 2009!!!!!!!!
Hey guys! What happened to all the posts about the Dawkins signing? Is there something that has changed? The video in John Clayton commeting about it is off ESPN, & all sorts of other things. Do they think its not a sure shot yet?? Some1, ANYONE, please fill me in. I go to dinner N return to this surprise?
Had I known, I woulda starved & stayed up to date…
Dont take this as a call out please:

If we do this it will be a penalty for to many players on the field. 5 lineman and 5 recievers Cutler and Buck would make 12 men on the field but I did see where you were going with it just thought i would point it out to ya. (Cheers) and Lets Go Broncos!
Just hasn’t been any for sure clarification on Dawkins yet. It was reported that he was on a plane back to Philly.
But I say it is because he lives there and he wants to sleep in his own bed. And maybe he wants to go back to Philly and let Mangement know that he has decided to come to Denver and would like to Retire an Eagle after his 2 years in Denver is done. But again no Official Reports either way so everyone is waiting on the Announcement to be official alot of speculation at this point in all aspects of FA lol been pretty hectic.
I’m not feeling the signings so far except for WR from Patriots that’s it! Hill, and buckhulter i don’t think are good enough! i really like Bell, and Derrick Ward! it would be over! Ward, Bell, Hillis, & Ryan that would be nice! I was praying to get at least 2 defensive linemen from free agency! and some of these corners here, i wish to god i was general manager! It should be Linemen 1st in Denver Managements mind, then Linebackers, then safety, maybe a CB then running back. Please do something over the weekend! not impressed! and Love Shanahan but for a long time he looked in the draft i think we need to get most of our new middle age (26-30) defensive peoples from free agency! draft is not working for Denver!
a i love the picks ups……. ok we fix the safety spot now we need another corner….shawn springs or chris….and we can use some linebackers….hmmmm dereck brooks, ray lewis…also dline with cato june…..also im upset cuz we cut anthony aldridge…me personally likes him over torain..also if we want competiton pick up dunn
They are reporting out of CBS 4 that the Broncos inked deals with Andra Davis from the Browns N Darrell Reid from Indy but I can’t find info anywhere else on this. You guys heard anything in regards to this? Sounds like some solid moves, though!!
Go Broncos!!
srry Arrington not Hill
Im in favor of McCalister and Lewis although im not complaining if we could brooks. We would have a championship team here now. Sure the D line needs some suring up but i trust McD to get that taken care of either in the next few days or the draft. Our D will have transformed so much this next year i can’t wait to see it in action!
why would we get rid of stokley? what is wrong with 4 good wide outs?
went to the philly site they are up in arms about Dawkins as we were about LYNCH. what is he doing now days?
don’t worry, we had at least 7 players come in today. maybe thats all they could handle in a day…between the phy. and the paper work.
any thoughts about Springs from washington?
lewis will stay home until monday he said….. our doctors play golf on saturday anyway!
i have never seen denver sign so many FA. but we needed them.
everyone said we needed a RB–we got 2,(1 is a return man) center–we got 1, safety– we got 2. we are are short on WR so we got 1. what is the big panic? don’t forget there is more time between now and Sept. and f/a did not end at midnight.
in the 70′s there was BRONCOMANIA in denver, but this year is gona be hell, wish i could see this one also. knew a guy that walked by a new car dealership and bought a car just cause it was orange.
Well whatever happens with Denver and it becomes Official you will see it here would be my guess or on the main page of the website so be patient they will do good.
ILB Davis is just as good as a high priced Lewis IMO. Ried DT and a special teams player. There is a video floating around of a Special Teams hit he made against the Titans last year you should check it out. Safety was picked up Renaldo Hill and 2 RB’s and a WR for depth purposes so I would say that it was very productive and they did focus on alot of the key holes now we just wait for the “Official Report from Bronco Country” and all will be good.
WOW!
I post 1 comment and everybody goes nuts. 382 more posts and I read everyone of them and still can’t stop laughing. I started reading about 10:30 and just got finnished . . . Of course this site isn’t going to make any anoucements, they’ve been a day or two late all year, plus everybody takes the weekend off around here except Adam and Kyle Thanks guy’s.
And of course The Broncos are going to bring in all kind’s of player’s to compete that includes a LS, Mike Leach has done a great job but this is his 10th season and what if He gets hurt? What I would like to see is The Broncos sign a back up QB while a few are available I don’t think Ramsey is the one if Jay gets hurt knock on wood.
Reality is everybody needs to calm down Coach McDaniels and His Staff have a plan were’s your faith 07elway. I can’t type any more, I was up all night last nite then worked, goodnite.
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
aShapeIdea…… your ideas arent really very sharp….
Bring in pacman? You kidding me? Worst idea ive heard.
He is just bad news.
Instead how bout we draft a good young corner or get a guy like Bryant McFadden
I think we are holding out on making an offer to a d-lineman or linebacker to try and get a better deal than we could get on day one of free agency. They seem to be targeting players that normally might not got on the first day (with the exception of Dawkins) but would most likely get picked up in the first couple of days. I like the guys they have interest in, a number of them will give us good depth at positions like wide receiver and running back. If the long snapper from the Patriots can actually play a position other than long snapper, than I am all for signing him. Though Leach has been good he is pretty much useless as a TE and with a 53 man roster a player that can play multiple positions can really come in handy.
Day two coming up! Go Broncos!
Let’s not forget about the draft, I don’t think our additions to team is not so bad we haven’t signed all star talent , but guys who can come and make a difference. Gaffney was a good sign, he just like Stokley with a bigger build and a cleaner bill of health. Also hear that were looking to get David Anderson, this must means were getting rid of Stokely, he is up there in years, though he gave us a very good couple of years. J.J Arrington is a speedster/kick returner/slot receiver so he is a good sign. Correll Buckhalter can play the role Michael Pittman did with(like Gaffney VS. Stokely) more athleticism and younger. The two safeties we picked up were pretty good for their teams, but we’ve seen how this could end, although Dawkins and Hill have stronger upside than the previous Fa signings. I thought Phillips was the better/younger choice for a team in rebuilding stages, but still solid pick ups just hope they stay on the field long enough to make a difference.
OK, since when do you EVER need a LS for competition? And when do you ever keep more than one LS on the roster in case the other one gets hurt? And this new LS they are bringing in isn’t anything else besides a LS either. So why are we paying him top dollar when we had a damn good LS for much less?
Hopefully today we will have some answers to at least some of the “deals” done yesterday. Thanks Adam for being patient with us hard core fans getting excited about “deals” that are only possiblities with nobody actually signing on the dotted line. We are a pretty excitable group and want our Bronco dreams to come true!
After sleeping on it, I hope we can sign Dawkins. I’m not a big fan of signing guys on the back end of their careers but I think he may be the exception to the rule, he still plays at a very high level. He would have a similiar effect on the defense as Lynch did until he lost a step and would elevate the play of some of our younger players. On the other hand, I think Lewis has lost a step and the younger guys don’t seem to respond as well to a veteran player that can only talk the talk but cant walk the walk anymore. That’s when a player should be become a coach!
Wonder if we will make a move on a D. lineman or linebacker today?
sess44-
If it wasn’t for bad LS, the Broncos would have gone to OT with the Bengals In ’07 and the Cowboys would have advanced to the Diviasional roung of the playoffs in the same year. In 08′, the Cardinals would have beat the Steelers in the regualr season and the Chagers would have done the same. Last year a LS was drafted in the early 6th round. So if you don’t think LS are important, than your wrong.
I know that having a good LS is important. What I’m trying to say is that Mike Leach is a GREAT LS. And how often does a LS get hurt? It happens less than a kicker getting hurt in a game. Does that mean a team should go in a game with two kickers?
“denver broncos” say we have hot sign anyone, when they do they will tell us. bull. NFL.com/news/transaction sayshill, gaffney and praxton have signed. some one istrying to feed us a line of bull. why can’t they come out and tell us?
Why are some of you guys saying that Dawkins is to od andthen saying lets go get Shawn Springs he’s 33 and is’nt all that good as for Hill and people saying he is’nt all that good let me run thi by you he had two more tackles than Dawkins, two tackles no big deal right well I think his two more picks are. As for everyone complaining about the offensive signings because we were number two last year well every god coach knows that they can improve we can have the number one offense next year. I realy don’t undestand signing Buckhalter unless we want him just for third downs I think that we either needa good work horse or a solid one two punch so realy hope we get Ian Johnson in maybe the fourth or fifth round what do you guys think
