10:05 a.m. MST: As is often the case, the first day of free agency was pretty hectic with a lot of signings all around the league.
Things could slow down a little bit today, but you never know. It does seem pretty quiet out there right now though.
It was great to see everyone getting so involved on the blog yesterday, and as more moves are announced today, please keep commenting and posing questions.
As for us here at Dove Valley, there’s no official news from the team yet, but we are picking up on some chatter that we might be hearing something soon. If and when that happens, we’ll let you know.
10:11 a.m. MST: Looking through the NFL’s free agent tracker, it looks like at least one move has gone through since last night. Tight end Sean McHugh has re-signed with the Steelers.
11:18 a.m. MST: In case you haven’t heard already, former New England QB Matt Cassel is now a Kansas City Chief. The two teams have just completed a trade that will send Cassel to Kansas City.
11:37 a.m. MST: The terms of the deal between the Chiefs and Patriots aren’t yet known, but what do y’all think about the trade?
11:57 a.m. MST: And we have another transaction. Former Titans wide receiver Brandon Jones has signed on with the San Francisco 49ers.
12:05 p.m. MST: *** AND IT’S OFFICIAL *** — Brian Dawkins is a Bronco. The team has officially announced the signing. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but he brings his 13 years of experience, seven Pro Bowls and five AP All-Pro nods to Denver.
The team has also announced that Dawkins will be introduced to the media here at Dove Valley in a press conference set for 1:30 p.m. MST. We will have a live blog from the press conference, though technical difficulties will prevent us from streaming the video live. We will upload the video onto DenverBroncos.com as soon as possible afterwards. We will also have a photo gallery highlighting Dawkins’ career.
Broncos TV will also sit down with Dawkins for a one-on-one interview after the press conference, and that will be on the site ASAP.
12:45 p.m. MST: Click here to take a look at a photo gallery covering Dawkins’ career. We’ll add more to it after the press conference this afternoon.
1:16 p.m. MST: I’m switching over to a new blog post, live from the team meeting room for Dawkins’ press conference. Head over there to follow along.
1:26 p.m. MST: More free agency updates before Dawkins takes the podium. The Detroit Lions have traded quarterback Jon Kitna to the Dallas Cowboys, and the Jets have officially required cornerback Lito Sheppard in a trade with the Eagles.
1:29 p.m. MST: The Lions have picked up former Titans cornerback Eric King.

go broncos
We appreciate the responsible reporting from Dove Valley Adam, but we can always hope, can’t we!
Who are the best nose tackles out there in free agency in your opinion and have any of them every played under coach Nolan?
Go Broncos!
imready –
Thanks, and we always try to do the best we can for you.
What’s interesting about your question is that there are very few pure nose tackles out there. The key is finding someone, whether he is a 100 percent nose tackle or a defensive tackle, who can fill the middle in a two-gap front.
As for the second part of your question, Ronald Fields is a free agent nose tackle who has played the past four years in San Francisco. So he has played under Coach Nolan.
Adam Wyche on N.F.L. network said the Dawkins deal isn’t done yet but is looking like a sure thing is this true and what is the chance of us getting McCalister or a different good corner on the other side of champ?
Hmmm… this is weird. That other blog is like looking at complete chaos… here it seems so mellow. All those comments were starting to hurt my eyes trying to at least go through ‘em all. There’ll be 500 by tonight!!
I’m really excited to find out who we’ll sign… if they can grab some awesome promising defensive guys we might just have hope for this season.
This is nuts… I love it!!
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!
Ha! Cassell is a Chief now! Idiots!
stop signing offense, We don’t need running backs, wide receivers, or long snappers. Get some “D”, I’m starting to worry about next year. They need to make some moves now.
broncos is the best team ever….we beat all the odds….and in my eyes we won the superbowl and the divison and we went undefeated….cuz we did better then we did those past years…………………… even scienctist say we got blood in ours body…so i really bleed blue…..and my blood is not red wen it hit the surface…… i only see orange…..who agrees with me
WOW!!!! Just saw that on nfl.com… what were the Pats thinking!?!? And to think now we’ll have to play that guy twice this year instead of just once… i yi yi yi yi!!!! I really don’t plan on being too worried about this because even though Cassel may have been a huge hit with the Pats, the Chiefs never can figure out how to win with what they got. Cassel could turn out to be a huge flop in KC, which would make me laugh ALOT considering I live in that state of misery and would love nothing more than bragging rights over this!!! Oh mylanta, this will be interesting!!
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!
Throw in the fact that McDaniels is very familiar with cassel and his tendencies. I say thank you New England…For a Coach, a Slot Reciever, a long snapper, and for the unintentional advantag by trading Cassel to a weak Chiefs franchise

I must admit that I’m not aware of any information of that nature. Coaches and general managers and other decision makers keep things pretty close to the chest regarding signings, draft ideas, etc.
As for Raji, he clearly is a heck of a playmaker. After his performance at the combine, I think a lot of teams will be looking at him. Who knows how early he could go in the draft?
Hmm. I agree with focusing on the defense. We need some safeties and another corner. Also, some guys on the D-line. But with the signing of Arrington and Buckhalter, along with the current trio of Hillis, Torain, and Young, the running back core will be very interesting indeed.
One more question if anyone knows was dawkins, buckhalter, or arrington officially signed yet or not wasnt sure if it became official or not? And if so what are the details to the contracts?
I completly agree with sess44 on that I didnt think anything they have given us has made much progress I still have some faith in McDaniels but he needs to turn this ship around and start making some better decisions when u have huge whole on your defense why spend 5.5 mil on a long snapper when we never have had problems with our old one and I never thought jabar gafney was a playmaker either not nearly as good as Marshall Royal and Stockley
I heard we got Brian Dawkins as well, if it’s true, that would be huge. Anyone else hear that?
everyone has heard that …. i dont think anyone apart of these blogs knows the truth …. some say hes already signed for a two year contract… and some say they are just talking.
Yah if we land Dawkins and we also got the saftey of the dolphins Hill so we would be pretty much wrapped up as far as safteys go which is actually a relief to hear
stop complaining, we are making our offence better and don’t forget we have 9 picks in the draft to use to build a defence and you never know what will happen in the rest of free agency … wait until the redskins don’t make the playoffs because their offence is garbage and then you’ll really care about 100 million for a DT!!!
Everyone,
We appreciate all the commentary on the blog, but please refrain from any personal attacks. We want everyone to voice their varying opinions, but let’s keep it civil.
HAHA, listen to all of you people! It’s DAY 2!!!
The sky is falling chicken little!!!
The defense is already better than last year with Hill and Dawkins.
They are now pretty much DONE with offense. The draft will be ALL DEFENSE!
They’ll probly try to sign Canty or another starter in free agency as well.
Bottom line, the Defense can’t get worse than last year. And the offense with a couple more weapons will be unstoppable!
Well the Good thing for KC is that if Matt Cassel doesnt work well in their system, they can fall back on Thigpen who is young and has proven himself pretty effective in KC system. Patriots should have at least traded him or something plus you never know if brady will go down again (we sure aint expect it last year) or how good he will be when he gets back.
As, for our beloved team, No Defensive guys out there look that appetizing to me but there are a few good ones. I just wanna see some real signage on the defensive side of the ball. Plus we got 2 safeties. Saw some people talking about Bartell and watched some vids on him. He is not bad at all. relatively young, could complement champ well and probably wont take up too much cap room. Plus we still got jack williams i think and bell didn’t do to bad last year and we could draft another CB and let em compete. This is by far one of the most interesting off seasons in a while obviously because of the coach switch and while i hate being in the dark can’t help the excitement. Don’t lets us down McDan.
BRING BACK THE ORANGE CRUSH!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!
what picks do we have in the draft?
We gotta get a nose tackle, I don’t care if he’s an every down player or not….we need a 340lbs monster in the middle.
Amen to that. I think we’ll still be ok minus a couple decisions we’ve done pretty good.
Wahoo! Dawkins for 5 years!
This is Adam Zinser Blog if i am not mistaking or he is moderating it.
If we devote just about all our picks to defense in the draft, we are sure to get a a couple of studs. After all Brandon Marshall was drafted in what? The fourth round, and look at him now. You never know and if we use this approach we will have a strong young defense.

At this time, the Broncos hold the 12th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, and they will pick 12th in each of the following six rounds. The team also has two more draft picks thanks to the trades of Keary Colbert and Domonique Foxworth.
Obviously, all of that could change should the Broncos engage in any trades between now and the draft. At the moment, however, the team has nine picks.
Adam what are the pics we got for those trades what rounds are they in?
brian dawkins is officially a bronco. and with that added leader ship and the complementary backs in arrington and buckhalter to help keep defenses honest. We should have a strong chance. Although, matt cassel being traded to the chiefs could make things tough.
Broncos4Bailey,
Adam works for the organization and is a pretty coolguy if you ask me. hE GIVES US A LOT OF INFO WE MIGHT NOT GET ANYWHERE ELSE. I’d be careful how you talk to him because if not you will have alot of us against you.
WOOOOOOOOOO BRIAN DAWKINS!!! NOW LET’S JUST GO AFTER RAY LEWIS AND MAKE A SB RUN WITH TWO VETERAN LEADERS ON A YOUNG DEFENCE!!!
b-dawk?? sweet!! guys, we need a middle LB…DJ needs some help, boss ain’t gonna hold up
what picks do we have in the draft????
Im so happy to here its official we just got the saftey version of ray lewis crazy puts on a show hard hitter team leader. This is great for a young D!
WEAPON X is a Bronco Now HEll yeah!!!!
finaly ive been waiting all day go broncos now go get ray lewis and chris mcalister to play along side bailey and then we can draft bj raji dt fom bc
Thank you Mr. Zinser. Remember people that there is a long ways to go in free agency and there is always the possibility of trades as well, not to mention the draft. Historically the most active teams right at the beginning of free agency end up sucking, and the ultra high priced free agents are almost never worth the money. Also remember that the teams with the best OL, DL, secondary, running game, and special teams often get that way due to schemes and good coaching over just signing the best available talent (ie Denvers running game for the last 15 years).
In all honesty I think we have a lot less holes in the defense and offense than the posts here would indicate. It is quite possible that with a better system of accountability and maybe using better schemes to put our def in better position to succeed might make all the difference. Also maybe getting the receivers that we already have to not drop so many balls might help greatly as well. I’m not saying that we don’t have needs (middle linebacker, secondary, and interior DL come to mind), but it’s not the end of the world if we have only really signed a few players so far.
We have picks 12, 48, 79, and 100 in the first 4 rounds. Rd. 5 on I am not sure.
Everyone –
As you hopefully noticed, Brian Dawkins is now officially a Denver Bronco. Post your thoughts and comments, and I will of course keep you informed of all the other free agent moves.
A couple people have asked about the Broncos’ draft picks. The team holds the 12th pick in rounds 1-7 and also has two additional picks, one in round five and one in round seven. That could all change if any trades occur, and compensatory picks have not been decided yet. The team currently has nine picks.
If we got Dawkins how come NFL Network is not reporting it!????????? But that would be awesome. NEVER MIND SCHFTERS BLOG SAYS DAWKINS HAS SIGNED HOLLA!
here comes the pain baby…b dawk is gonna provide a whole lot of attitude, passion to the d…and with davis coming in from cleveland im just lookin for some help on the line that could come via the draft and then the d is lookin fairly nice..Brian Dawkins welcome to Denver….look forward to you layin some wood out here…
Finally, official confirmation on Dawkins. Thanks, Mr. Zinser. The Broncos are one corner away from a vastly improved secondary and Miami Dolphin cornerback Andre Goodman and Denver are in contract talks according to The Denver Post.
Now we just need Ray and we will have leadership to build up this young defense. Just the leadership alone will make this d-fense better for years to come. Denver would then only have to focus on getting a power rusher in the draft, or a stud corner, with the top pick.
Only wish Foxworth was part of the mix.
now i know Dawkings signing real. Hey Adam, have you heard anything about LB andre Davis. Is he in town, have we signed him?
im so happy….im so happy…..we had john lynch….now we got brian dawkins…..i bleed orange and blue
Torain ATV fan –
Thanks for the vote of confidence earlier, by the way.
As for Davis, I have not heard anything. Anything about him is speculation at this point.
who is darrell reid?
Brian Dawkins is awesome.I think if we draft Bruden from Notre Dame,we will finally have Safeties again yeah.now all we need is to sign Tank Johnson and well be good to go,I love the broncos
ESPN just reported we signed a 2 year deal with Andra Davis and a 3 year deal for colts DT Darrel Ried.
I’m sooooo excited! Dawkins, LB Davis, WR from Patriots, WR Henderson, DT Reid now we r getting somewhere! i saw one more defensive linemen and CB! nice nice! im soooo happy!
