10:05 a.m. MST: As is often the case, the first day of free agency was pretty hectic with a lot of signings all around the league.
Things could slow down a little bit today, but you never know. It does seem pretty quiet out there right now though.
It was great to see everyone getting so involved on the blog yesterday, and as more moves are announced today, please keep commenting and posing questions.
As for us here at Dove Valley, there’s no official news from the team yet, but we are picking up on some chatter that we might be hearing something soon. If and when that happens, we’ll let you know.
10:11 a.m. MST: Looking through the NFL’s free agent tracker, it looks like at least one move has gone through since last night. Tight end Sean McHugh has re-signed with the Steelers.
11:18 a.m. MST: In case you haven’t heard already, former New England QB Matt Cassel is now a Kansas City Chief. The two teams have just completed a trade that will send Cassel to Kansas City.
11:37 a.m. MST: The terms of the deal between the Chiefs and Patriots aren’t yet known, but what do y’all think about the trade?
11:57 a.m. MST: And we have another transaction. Former Titans wide receiver Brandon Jones has signed on with the San Francisco 49ers.
12:05 p.m. MST: *** AND IT’S OFFICIAL *** — Brian Dawkins is a Bronco. The team has officially announced the signing. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but he brings his 13 years of experience, seven Pro Bowls and five AP All-Pro nods to Denver.
The team has also announced that Dawkins will be introduced to the media here at Dove Valley in a press conference set for 1:30 p.m. MST. We will have a live blog from the press conference, though technical difficulties will prevent us from streaming the video live. We will upload the video onto DenverBroncos.com as soon as possible afterwards. We will also have a photo gallery highlighting Dawkins’ career.
Broncos TV will also sit down with Dawkins for a one-on-one interview after the press conference, and that will be on the site ASAP.
12:45 p.m. MST: Click here to take a look at a photo gallery covering Dawkins’ career. We’ll add more to it after the press conference this afternoon.
1:16 p.m. MST: I’m switching over to a new blog post, live from the team meeting room for Dawkins’ press conference. Head over there to follow along.
1:26 p.m. MST: More free agency updates before Dawkins takes the podium. The Detroit Lions have traded quarterback Jon Kitna to the Dallas Cowboys, and the Jets have officially required cornerback Lito Sheppard in a trade with the Eagles.
1:29 p.m. MST: The Lions have picked up former Titans cornerback Eric King.

Denver was approached with the offer, they are not shopping him around. The fact that Schefter reported that they even considered it doesn’t sit well with me, but i can’t blame McD for it really. He knows Cassel real well. But it is all a moot point because Cassel is a chief now. I just hope that McD can explain this to Cutler and that there is not love lost between the two. The Head coach – QB relationship is about trust, and business aside we need that relationship to be strong for us to win games.
The Cutler thing is a nasty rumor. It even states in Shefters Blog, that McD wasn’t even courting the idea, and that teams showed interest in him, but that it wasn’t even an option to the Broncos. Everybody calm down.
No doubt. Calm down guys. If we knew everything that went on behind the scenes we would all lose our minds. Its just something that got out that probbably happens more than once a day. I don’t know McD but I dont really think he is that stupid.
Dawkins and Hill’s signings are not meant to be permanent, they are just temporary help for while this defense makes the transition under a new co-ordinator.
Adam Z have you heard anything about an offer to WR Anderson (Houston)?
LISTEN TO THIS
-FS B-dawk
-SS Hill
-CB Champ -???(somone quick and agile wont get beat deep)

-RE Moss
-LE Dumerville
-DT’s ???-???(somone who is young big and can penitrate the pocket)
tell me if i’m wrong but we can get these positions filled in the draft with the talent we need. this is the makings of a ideal ORANGE CRUSH DEFENSE!!!
Here’s the inbetween the lines on the story. Jay if you ever read this blog, YOU ARE THE BEST! Please don’t let a crappy headline change your opinion, dedication or loyalty. We love you here in Denver!
“The Broncos firmly maintain that they never intended to trade Cutler, that they were approached to make the trades. But, as of Saturday afternoon, Cutler was angry to hear that his name had been floated in any trade conversations.”
Once again…Don’t take this junk headline seriously, any team would be crazy to trade Jay.
GO JAY CUTLER, GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WAS A BRONCO FAN BEFORE I WAS EVEN BORN.
alright heres what i think what we should do from here…
we need to pick up a corner in free agency … mcalister or bartell … i dont know if mcfadden is still un signed but he’s my favorite.
we should pick up lewis.. he may not be what he used to be although he’s still a great player and a great leader
in the first round we need to go d-line or linebacker 3-4 linebacker or d end..
we should also pick up a safety …such as delmas, cook, chung and a line backer such as Worrell Williams(D.J.’s brother) in the later rounds!!!!
Here is what was posted on ESPN. This is amazing, I am soooooo pumped up about our D signings. ORANGE CRUSH II material, if all these players come here to win!
With Denver agreeing to terms with former Indianapolis defensive tackle Darrell Reid, the team has now signed seven free agents in the first 36-plus hours of free agency.
To put the Broncos’ wild spree in perspective, the other three AFC West teams have no players.
Sure, Oakland is sniffing around tackles Khalif Barnes and Marvel Smith; San Diego is thinking about bringing back cornerback Drayton Florence after a year’s detour to Jacksonville and Kansas City traded for New England linebacker Mike Vrabel. But the only inking going on thus far in this division is coming out of the Rocky Mountains.
None of the names Denver has signed so far will overwhelm you but the new regime, led by coach Josh McDaniels, is trying to create competition and depth.
Here is a recap of the players Denver has agreed to deals with so far:
Houston Texans receiver David Anderson (restricted offer sheet); Arizona Cardinals running back J.J. Arrington; Philadelphia Eagles running back Correll Buckhalter: New England Patriots receiver Jabar Gaffney; Miami Dolphins safety Renaldo Hill; New England Patriots long snapper Lonie Paxton and Indianapolis’ Reid.
The team is also trying to finalize deals with Philadelphia safety Brian Dawkins and Cleveland linebacker Andra Davis. Dawkins would certainly be the big catch of the group and if Denver is going to finalize the deal, it could come at any time.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Bailey’sBestFan dude we are moving to a three four, plus Brian is a SS and Hill is FS
Jon Kitna was traded for Anthony Henry
Wow, Detoit made out on that deal or what?
what is this load of horse crap that we were going to trade Jay Cutler and get Matt Cassel!!!!??? I know you like cassel coach mcdaniels but cassel is no where close to as good as QB as Cutler!!!! Cutler has a stronger arm, 100% better deep ball, way better football IQ and the list goes on!!! McDaniels, if you want to keep this bronocos team together, NEVER trade Cutler!!!!
