Jay Cutler is freaking out over nothing. And now everyone else is following his lead. 2 things: 1. Denver did not shop anyone around. They were being approached by everyone else. 2. This is all being blown out of proportion because McD coached Cassell last year. Had he never known Cassell this wouldn’t be as big a deal as ESPN, NFL Network, Jay Cutler or any one on this blog is making it out to be.

  2. 47rocksurworld says:

If nothing else this situation has shown McDaniels and Xanders how the Bronco nations feels. If you look at what it would have cost for Cassel to come here it would have used up more than half of the cap space available. We need defensive players, Cassel in not proven until he has a good year in KC, taking Brady’s team and having sucess doesn’t mean he will have sucess any where else. Why would the Pats get rid of him with so little in return to them, wouldn’t be the first time the hoodie got the better of someone. You also have to wonder if he wasn’t messing with McDaniels by helping to cause problems with the Broncos

  3. 66forHOF says:

Broncos55, I couldn’t have said it better myself. McDaniels is just nervous and anyone in his position would consider bringing in players they are comfortable w/. Patrick zwisler, Cutler is not on the block and McDaniels is not trying to make a trade. Teams contacted him, this has been one of the classiest organizations over the history of their existence and would not trade aplayer behind their back. Mr.Bowlen is one of the best owners in the league and will make sure this gets resolved w/ Cutler staying in Denver. Quit Spamming Me!

I totally agree. In fact it could have been anyone of the teams in this situation trying to cause the broncos problems. As for the criticism over the FA signings:

    A) Why a long snapper? Maybe because he is also listed as a guard and a strong contributor in special teams. For those paying attention we were thin in the depth chart on the offensive line and almost dead last in special teams.

    B) RB and WR. Depth. Depth. Depth. Plus McD likes to play a 4 and 5 receiver set. Hillis and Torain should get the load but will they be fully healed and ready to go full speed? No one has seen enough of Torain to know how versatile he is as a runner AND pass catcher. McD loves the versatile backs.

I gotta say I am pleased with the Defensive choices thus far. Proven players who don’t want a lot of money and can teach our younger guys a thing or 2. No Manuels, Mcrees or Robertsons who have been invisible their entire careers. I don’t know about the rest of you but I am really starting to feel hopeful for the coming season!

listen to twistedbronco finally some positive feedback

  6. broncos14441 says:

Here, this says it is just being blown out of proportion:

“He’s not the only person in the last few days we’ve received calls on,” McDaniels said. “We’ve received trade calls on a number of players, which is not uncommon this time of the year. I also think the sensitivity of the other trade that was occurring, with my relationship with New England and the whole Cassel thing, I think that stirred the pot even more.”

And then McDaniels made a point of emphasis: “We don’t want to trade Jay. We never did. He’s our quarterback. We’re excited about this season. And excited about what we’re doing here in free agency to improve our team.”

“…WE NEVER DID…” so settle down Jay and lets move on to win the SuperBowl.

  7. broncos14441 says:

    hrdnokd-
1.) Based on all that you just said, I’ve come to this conclusion: You only looked on the national scene, what was reported by people miles and miles away, not the Denver community.

2.) I’m not taking McDaniels’s side, I’m taking the side of winning rather than loosing, and to do that we all just need to get over it.

  8. twiztedbronco says:

    hrdnokd-
Do you listen to everything Bill Williamson says? oh wait… I bet you are Bill Williamson huh?

We all need to get over it. I like Jay as a quarterback. He is the future of this franchise. But he needs to get off the cross use the wood to make a bridge and get over it. I think it is very likely that while its a “national story” BECAUSE the media has blown it out of proportion, McD and Xanders probably should have handled it all better and admit it, apologize to Jay and worry about winning!

  9. hrdnokd says:

Oh no, I’ve read Krieger and Kizsla and everyone else at the post, they state that THIS HAPPENED, they TRIED TO TRADE CUTLER. This wasn’t some “entertaining offers” crap, they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar and are trying to get out the back before they have to answer any other questions. Hell, I’ve got the local ESPN Denver channel on my computer right now and EVERYONE is pissed. Don’t act like this didn’t happen, don’t put your head in the sand. Hell, this was first reported by NBC, not even ESPN or Williamson. This isn’t blown out proportion, these two jack asses screwed up big time. No, I’m not getting over it. You step all over your own “junk” your first free agent period EVER and act like it’s no big deal. I wasn’t always happy with Shanny, but he never let his dirty laundry get out there. If there was word he was cutting a qb, ala Griese, he got cut.

  10. cutler6101 says:

You guys on here try so hard to sweep stuff under the carpet and if it isn’t your own blog then you don’t even care…. twistedbronco I highly doubt that NE traded Cassell to KC to cause problems for the Broncos Organization I mean come on he isn’t that good and would have to face us twice a year our head coach used to coach him so I am sure McD knows Matt Cassell inside and out. I think McD and NE are the only ones that let the boy play he didn’t start in high school, college, and his first 3 years in the NFL….WE HAVE NO REASON TO BE SCARED OF KC AND BIG BAD CASSELL! Yeah ppl called for cutler and I am sure McD pondered the notion that he could bring Cassell in and trade off Jay…it probably went down something like that I mean cutler does have friends in place in the office im sure and they called him to let him know…he got pissed and anyone on this blog right now would have acted the same way or worse…..we still have our QB and I think Cutler deserves to get pissed I mean he carried this team with no defense no running game to 8-8….just all I am saying is don’t be mad at cutler I want him to have a bond with his teammates to where he does get upset about leaving them he said he loved those guys….move on stop bashing cut for getting pissed

  11. orangecrush805 says:

I cannot belive that Cutler was shopped around. This McD guy may have just turned Bronco nation against him.

  12. broncos14441 says:

Although I am sticking up for McDaniels, I still love Jay. I just can’t till next season when Jay an Josh are best pals and we win the superbowl!

  13. cutler6101 says:

I stayed up all night last night looking through the other teams blogs and sites and any new info on any trades….and I can say we have the best and greatest fan base in the NFL and all of sports…I would jump in front of a bullet if someone shot at MILES….I am glad and proud to be a Bronco Fan!

  15. monodono says:

This would ‘ve had to be THE BIGGEST TRADE ever to follow through with it. I would be pissed if Xanders and Coach McDaniels would not have listened and thought about it. These guys know what they’er doing let them do it.

  16. twiztedbronco says:

I’m not taking a side here. What I’m saying is that McDaniels and Xander were wrong in some way. Maybe they should have told him that they were approached by other teams (read the articles, no trades were proposed by Denver) or that they thought about it. Maybe Jay shouldn’t be taking it so hard. Either way everyone everyone (coaches and players) should get over it. Jay isn’t going anywhere! Can we worry about winning now?

  17. hrdnokd says:

YES, it is crazy, so why’d they try it?

  18. Dr. Doom says:

Cutler should also Just get over it. He isn’t John Elway or Tom Brady; but he wants to be treated that way. I hope Cutler will be mature enough to shrug this off and not let this affect his FOOTBALL relationship with Kid Mac. I dont care if they don’t have that Kind of Dungy-Manning man crush sort of thing but dont pout and say get me outta Here

  19. monodono says:

Alright next subject who do The Broncos sign as thier back up QB?

  20. BigSmoove says:

I was first upset when I heard the news about Jay, but remember the guys that are spreading these rumors… they get paid to do it! I dont think McDaniels tried to trade anyone… I think the Lions and Bucs called and asked about Jay because they knew McDaniels brought up Cassell! And when the hell did TV or News become so credible… Those people are snakes and lie everyday day! Just so you know, there are big names in all sports that are asked to be traded… You are a fool if you don’t think teams tried to lure Barry Sanders from that God awful Lions team… It’s a business people! And guess what, after two sub par seasons, people other than Denver fans think we suck now and are rebuilding. Of course teams would call about Jay or Marshall or Champ… Why did the Memphis Grizzlies trade the face of their organization to the Lakers? Why in the world would other teams call Philly about A.I.? Why would Texas call George and ask for Soriano? Big names get asked about too… Why would I ask you for your peanut butter sandwich, if your Big Mac looks a lot more tastier!

  21. twiztedbronco says:

Also as someone on another blog mentioned: Bill Belichic is the Darth Vader of football

Anyone hear anything about Andra Davis being signed? Anything new about Andre Goodman? I would love to have either of them for sure but both plus the Dawkins and Hill signings, we would actually have the start of a legitamate defense.

  22. broncos14441 says:

    monodono-
THANK YOU! Leave it up to fan #1 to get a new topic.

I think we need J.P. Lossman as a backup if no one picks him up.

Have you guys herd anything on Derrek Ward?

  23. Realistic Bronco Fan says:

As a backup QB PJ Losman wouldn’t be bad but neither would Bollinger, Fitzpatrick or possilby Simms cheap.

We need Ward signed, with him, Bucky, and Hillis as our power and dump all the other Rbs and get a speedy guy. The oposing D wouldn’t have a chance.

We need a new kicker guy. Any suggestions?

  24. BigSmoove says:

We can not win football games with just having Champ, Dawkins, Hill and some over priced CB that has been cut in the backfield! We need someone pounding the other teams QB and stopping the run. The first 7 guys on the defense are way more important! Listen, I am a huge Cutler Fan and I just love how hard BMarsh plays but don’t think for one second if we don’t start putting a defense on the field that can win games that these two guys would not bolt at a chance of winning or making more money! Everyone is crying about Jay’s feelings… let’s hear those same cries when he is up for free agency and some team is tangling $100 million in front of him, and he leaves. This is not the old school anymore when we had the privilege of watching, Magic, Jordan and Bird playing under the same roof for over 10 years. Free agency and salary caps have taken over football. So we need to win now… because if we don’t… trade rumors or not, these over priced athletes will be leaving Denver anyways! Us loyal fans are the only ones who stay…

  25. BigSmoove says:

broncos14441 I think Ward will get signed before he ever even visits Denver. Other teams will want to give him more money…

I’m hoping the Broncos are trying to go after Canty, he would be huge in a 3-4 defense which I’m sure Nolan is trying to do.

  26. BigSmoove says:

I also say we bring back Bertrand Berry… He has been killing it in Arizona!

  27. jvanderbilt says:

I think Ward’s value has decreased because he wanted Micheal Turner’s money ( 6 year , 34.5 million ) but teams seem to feel he’s not worth it …… So we may have a shot at him at a cheaper price and plus we can possibly offer him a starting spot unlike his other visits.

  28. jvanderbilt says:

Oh yeah BigSmoove, I agree on the Canty comment … he was overlooked in Dallas because of Spears and Ware, but he would be a great addition as you stated.

  29. BigSmoove says:

jvanderbilt I’m just tired of the no name backs and we can use anyone in this system crap. I want to spend money on Defensive guys and build depth on our offense through the draft. Worst thing that could have happened to Shanahan was years ago when Olandis Gary stepped in and ran all over the place after Terrell got hurt. Then to make it worse, Mike Anderson comes out of freaking Utah… and rushes for the most yards a rookie tailback has ever rushed… are you kidding me! Utah! Oh… and who can forget Shanny bringing in Reuben Droughns, and he massed over a 1,000 yds. Ya, the system is great but imagine it with someone like a young Clinton Portis running down those cut back lanes… oh wait, we had him too! Ugghhh!

  30. BigSmoove says:

Imagine Beenie Wells lining up behind Cutler or Knowshon Moreno…Sweet! If we don’t get Arrington, we should definitely think about getting Harvin early…what better way to help this defense then to improve on our special teams!

  32. Mike T 26 says:

Hey is there gonna be a day three blog for free agency

  33. TheRoyalBeast says:

Dunno who our back-up QB will be, I know who i dont want it to be tho…Patrick Ramsey. I don’t see a real reason to shop for RBs, If our RBs stay healthy we got alot of good ones, and last years injuries were freak injuries. Like the way Torain pounded, liked Hillis running and receiving, like the flashes of greatness Tatum showed in his short stint with us. add Buckhalter and JJ and we dont need anymore. We have enough to compete against one another. Besides it sounds like ward wants to be a “M. Turner”…You know “THE” running back and that hasnt been the case in denver for a while and i don’t believe he is skilled enough to change that.

As far as cutler goes since i have said nothign on the subject. The media is playing into the fears of a new QB coach relationship and like McDan said his relationship to Cassel fueld it and it should. after all he signed a WR and LS from NE when we don’t need either. If McD did initiate the calls cuz all we have a speculations and McD talking to the press (and he could be lying) its a bad way to start off a relationship with your QB. McDan might have thought about it but I don’t think he wants to start his head coaching career with “Problems”. It is a business and they have been put in charge and can do w/e they want. But if he were to trade cutler, IMHO it would be a dumb and bad move. We can only hope that McDan isn’t just looking out for his own and not considering the welfare of his new team. This is gonna be a long offseason.

    BRING BACK THE ORANGE CRUSH!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  34. Cutler#6 says:

I agree with Dtmac3 cutler is the heart of this offense. when i heard that they were going to trade him i was so pissed that they would even think about it. Cutler led them to the second best offense in the league and he pretty much did it without any running backs they all got hurt and now he has buckhalter from the eagles who is really good and that running back that might come from the Giants who is ran for over 1,000 yards last year that means cutler a guy that does the play fake great and can throw on the run can do the play fake and roll out this year they couldnt do it as much ladt year but now its most likely going to work. Also Cutler is going to have a way better defense this year with the additions of Andre Davis and Dawkins!!!! ALSO Renaldo Hill soo he wont have as much pressure on him to score every drive like last year. Last year if he didnt score every drive they would pretty much lose because there defense wasnt good. Now there defense is going to be good. so Jay needs to stay. I also think the Broncos need a new kicker Prater missed too many last year.

  35. JSAPP2 says:

I would like it if Canty was signed also. It’s time to get another pass rusher on the roster to storm the Cassel and one more CB to pick him off! Let’s focus on the defensive side of the team! Time heals most wounds the season is still 6mos away maybe Cutler can use this messy incident to fuel the fire inside and shatter all of Tom Brady’s records, but unlike Tom he would finish the job! Well maybe I’m getting ahead of myself let’s make sure the chargers don’t win the west and we finish above 500. The glass is still half full isn’t it? See the Broncs in Miami 2010!!!!!

  38. Broncomania56 says:

Cutler is going no where. This issue was blown way out of proportion. You have to respect teams at taking a shot, however the Broncos were approached not the other way around. This is what I hate about media. This sells ratings and that’s all they are doing. Cutler will stay put, all this negative attention will be squashed as of today. Cutler will be contacted by McDaniels and Bowlen ASAP and put him at ease. Cassel is in no way better than Cutler. Everyone calm down, this is just media BS. Looking forward to the new additions on defense. Still need some studs on the D-line to pressure the opposing QB and stop the run. I feel a resurgence of energy coming, No more stale Broncos offense, no more lousy Defense, there will be a new energy and it will start very soon. 6 months to pre-season, cannot wait. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

  39. BroncoRanger08 says:

    YES!!!!!!!
Sorry, my computer has been acting funny the past 24 hours so im pretty excited to join back in on the conversations.
So far I like the moves Coach McDaniels has implemented. I think that Ward would be a good pick-up but would avoid it if he continues to ask for big money. I also like the prospect of aquiring Canty: i think that he can set the edge in the 3-4 defense next season. Still worried about a Nose Tackle but other than that, I’m impressed with the offseason thus far.

As far as the Cutler drama goes: Drop it. Bottom line is that he is not going anywhere. I personally think that it is Smart of Coach McDaniels to listen to and weigh ALL his options. In the end, he decided to keep Cutler and thats that. Plus I like the message that it sends to the player: that everyone has to play well to keep their jobs and that nobody is safe. Light a fire under the players!!!!

  41. 66forHOF says:

Sweet, I was getting that spam message before. Does any one know whats happening in Denver right now w/ DWard?

  42. 66forHOF says:

I think we should stock pile RB’s because of what happend last season, we got to keep Cutler comfortable and make him feel like he doesn’t have to win the game w/ his arm. I think w/ all that presure last year it’s amazing he didn’t throw more than 18 int’s.

  43. 66forHOF says:

But then again a good D would probaly work just aswell. Any word on D players coming in today?

  44. BroncoRanger08 says:

I doubt we will get mcfadden, he is visiting the Cardinals today and is still talking with the Steelers. I too hope we pick up ward, i think he will be more dangerous than JJ.

  45. 66forHOF says:

I wish we were making a push in D like the Giants; they got Rocky Bernard, Michale Boley, and I Just heard they got Canty too.

  46. BroncoRanger08 says:

Nate Washington is also visiting the Titans today, in case anyone wanted to know.

  47. champ24crush says:

Everyone that’s crying over the Cutler issue the media blew up stop being drama queens and move on already.I’m ready to see if we get Ward or not.Rogers would be nice too we need some big boys up front.BRONCO NATION2009!!!!!

  48. 66forHOF says:

I agree with you champ24crush, if we could get Rodgers and only have to give up a 2nd round pick to Browns that would be great. We should realy be doing something to help out this DL.

  49. 47rocksurworld says:

I see they finally cut Leach, kinda hard to believe that Paxton is better than Leach, let alone worth the extra money, kinda of seems hard to believe we needed to spend money on a long snapper and not on the defense. I hope they are waiting for some smoking deals on defensive guys, it seems hard to believe we can fill all the holes with just the draft.

  50. broncos14441 says:

Glad to see we are off the topic of Cutler “trade” rumors!
