im trying to figure out how Moss and Dumervil play into the 3-4 D. are they going to start or be traded because they are good enough to start but just not 3-4 material. the only thing i can see in one of there futures is Moss going to a blitzing LB.
Wow what the hell? trade cutler? no damn way man!!! mccallister from the ravens could be a good pick-up but only with an incentive laden contract. you know the if-he-gets-hurt-he-doesnt-get-paid-much kind of contract. i also DO NOT want us to pick up ray lewis. he will not perform any where near the dollar amount he will demand. thats if he plays and doesnt get hurt. he’s too far past his prime to be bringing him in and throwing a ton of money his way. that would be a terrible pick up IMO. i’m also trying to figure out the jj arrington signing. someone help me understand that one, please. kick returner maybe? Correll buckhalter tho is a good pickup. i think he will be great in mac’s offense. i do hope cutler matures a little bit. his body language in some games and attitude bothered me (only slighly tho, considering his ability) and i think potential problems or headaches associated with it may have bothered the coaching staff enough to entertain getting rid of him and getting someone they know can run mac’s offense beautifully. if it was anybody but cassel who was being waved in the broncos face i dont think the broncos would have even considered it. and i wonder if cutler’s conversations or lack therof with the coach also led to his being on the trading block. who knows.
now, to aquiring dawkins. i think this is just like the john lych deal. excellent pickup but only good for the next cupla years. no more. we should still be looking to a long term solution at safety. by the way i love we didnt go get haynesworth. he’s not going to play near the $100 million level. i promise u that. he’s the type to get happy he got his and now he’ll drop off the face of the football planet. doing good broncos keep it up.
amac, your crazy, ward will cost way more than what he is worth when we have a ton of talent at RB. Buckhalter when playing always did an awesome job but there is not many people that would start over Brian westbrook. Ryan Torain should share carries with Correll and we need to try and get a 3rd or 4th rounder for Selvin who it seems lie people forgot that he is on our roster. Hillis is going to be the best fullback in the NFL this year or next. He can do anything you need him to do. He will be a hybrid tight end type player and in a heavy pass offense he is gonna have just as many yards as our tight ends. DO NOT sign Ward because he will be a waste of money.

McDaniels now has to regain my trust again. Yes, I’m happy for Dawkins, Renaldo Hill and other studs we’ve obtained. Nevertheless, what is he thinking entertaining a trade of Cutler? We don’t need to piss Jay off. He is a stud and is one of the better quarterbacks in the league. All will be well so long as we win, but all of our efforts will be futile if Cutler walks out via free agency. I suggest that McDaniels do all he can to make Cutler happy. We’ll see just how good Cassel really is when he plays for the sucky Chiefs. Repent, McDaniels. Coach the team like I know you can and DON’T EVER THINK OF TRADING CUTLER AGAIN!!! Dawkins signing wasn’t just influenced by skill, but by leadership. We lacked a real captain on defense aside from C. Bailey, now we have a lot of leadership and experience between the two, I bet Bailey is happy he finally got help behind him and can now play up more and jump more routes. Back to Dawkins we also signed hill who is a good acquisition and step up from our previous safeties, maybe now Woodyard can fully learn the safety position with some guidance, instead of being put on spot and asked to perform like he’s a shutdown safety
I don’t like the thought of trading Cutler, but he needs to understand that he needs to perform at a high level every game, he did lose us a couple games throwing too many interceptions, especially the ones in the end zone hurt us really bad, instead of throwing the ball away and living another day we cough up the ball when three points would of been o.k, but with Matt Prater you can see why he may not want to throw it away on 3rd down. Let’s get a kicker who can make the easy one’s and let Prater kick 45+ long one’s.
McDaniels was not entertaining a trade for Cutler. The Lions and the Bucs both called us and asked about Jay. And Xanders and McDaniels said no!! This is why rumors like this is so stupid!!! I’ve seen all the blogs, and checked all the links. Even listened to the phone interview with Cutler. How could this be true, who would even come close to replacing Cutler???? Matt Cassell, no way, and other than that, there is no one else that the Broncos could even think about having. One of the reasons that the Broncos HC position was so coveted was due to the fact that we have a Franchise QB, Jay Cutler, why on earth would they even think of trading him. Yeah, he makes mistakes and at times, stares down Marshall too much, but he has two and a half years as a starter under his belt. We have went 7-9 and 8-8 in two rebuilding years as opposed to 2-14 or 4-12. How much more do you want out of the QB position. Give it time. In my opinion, these are rumors and speculation. Tampa and Detroit both called the Broncos to try and dangle Cassell, and maybe it enticed McD for a moment, but it didn’t happened and any further talk about this is rumor. Maybe Cutler reacted on emotion, I know I have, and that’s normal. Hopefully all of this talk ends, SOON, and Cutler and McDaniels come to see that this Franchise needs them to work together to succeed. Any comments on this?

I believe McD was just thinking that hye had got the pats so close last year that maybe this year he could do it for real. That was his thought process for a nano secxond before he realised that it would be stupid to change one of the best offenses in the league. Yes, we signed Andra Davis. And I did see an article where Adam Shefter reported that the Broncos turned down the Bucs and Lions IMMEDIATELY and that a trade was not a possibility. There’s a lot of bad investigative journalism spreading around about all this. Thank Floyd Reese for getting rid of Cassel so that all this crap couldn’t happen.

A source close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Broncos pursued the trade because McDaniels wanted to be reunited with Cassel, who excelled under McDaniels last season as an injury replacement for Tom Brady.
In the aftermath of the trade Saturday, Cutler asked permission to find his own trade partner but was denied by the Broncos, according to the source. Cutler is still hopeful he will be traded because he feels betrayed by McDaniels, the source said.
I really truely hope that none of this is true. I am kinda mad just thinking this was McD’s doing. Why ruin a relationship with your Star QB (best in the NFL) before it even takes off right….. I think we should let jj slip through in the contract mishap and pick up Ward! and we need to pick up a cb in free agency and draft a cb in the late rounds to develop his game along the next 2 seasons atleast. And I will say this (sorry monodono) the broncos disrespected Cutler and made him feel like he was expendable and that is a hard blow to take…stuff like this makes the team take 2 steps back not forward and adds to this crazy offseason even more….doesn’t matter in the end b/c Jay will be in denver this season and for seasons to come
i don’t understand all the worry. it is sort of scary, but it is clearly bad reporting and miscommunication on everyone’s part. Until it is reported by ADam schefter or from Bowlen or the Broncos directly, don’t buy it. The Broncos were clearly offered a trade, considered it, as most trades are, and then refused it. Someone in one of the five involved organizations (Broncos, Pats, Bucs, Lions, or Chiefs) said something to someone about what was offered and ESPN blew it up completely. It was simply wishful thinking by the Bucs and Lions to see if McD wanted Cassel because they know their relationship and thought they could get a QB out of it. Cutler clearly got word of this blown up situation, and being the emotional guy we all know he is, he felt betrayed. I’m sure once he talks to Bowlen, Xanders, and McD everything will be sorted out and we’ll all see that what Adam Schefter originally reported (that they quickly refused the offers) was true. That is that.
First… BRIAN FREAKING DAWKINS!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!! I just hope denver management/players/fans can inspire him to play the way he did in Philly. I am really stoked about this one.
Next… liked the Hill and Buckhalter signings. I was a little nervous when they brought in all these offensive guys.. but it’s started evening out. And Im sorry but JJ Arrington averaged 6 yards per carry so – not sure why people are so down on that acquisition. I’m looking forward to see what he has. Plus – rumor is he isn’t signed just yet so, still might get Derrick Ward.
Not sure about the Darrell Ried/Andra Davis signings. I guess we will see.
Lastly, I came in late on the Cutler drama. But the fact that they even entertained the idea pisses me off. But what pisses me off more is that they have let this get so out of hand. They should have known it would cause drama if it got out. As soon as it did – they should have nipped it in the bud. Call Cutler, meet with him, buy him flowers, whatever – just make it right – with Cutler AND with the fans.
monodono: I believe we draft at #54 in the second round because we alternate with 6-teams who tied and the Broncos got to go first at #12 because they had the worst record against the weakest schedule. e.g. in the 3rd round we draft at 83 etc.
I just wanted to add that Jay Cutler was not offered up to any other team. The fact is other teams called trying to get Cutler for Cassel in a 3 way trade.
Obviously the coach weighed his options – but in the end he knows Cutler is a better quarterback, and obviously rejected the offer. The coach is not married to Cutler like Shanny was. He knows Cassels work ethic, that is his old QB. However, knowing what he knows about Jay, he also knows he will have a more talented QB under his wing that he can work with and mold into an even better QB
As a coach or GM, you have to weigh every option. That is why it was “thought” about when other teams approached the Broncs about a trade. The Broncs did not make the offer. The bottom line is, after some consideration, it was REJECTED.
As far as Jay’s feelings, he knows this is a business. He knows if the organization wanted to go another direction, they would have already. Jay would start no matter where he went… well, unless he went to Indy or New England
One more thought. As a new coach in the NFL, you haven’t really had a lot of guys that have been under your belt. With that said, when you’re trying to implement a new system, unless you know a player is worth it (such as Dawkins), you tend to grab guys who have worked well under YOUR system prior. Meaning of course you’re gonna look for key guys that are free agents that were on your old team. Do I blame him for taking some guys from New England? Not one bit. In his shoes, we’d all probably do the same.
Just my thoughts…
One last thing I forgot to add…
Teams call trying to obtain a lot of players, I’m sure Cutlers name came up last season as well to Shanny along with some other players. I’m sure Champs name was brought up this year from someone.
Nevertheless, its what the outcome of the situation is, no one, not even Jay should jump to conclusions or act on raw emotion when it comes to business discussions as nothing is final until someone signs that piece of paper stating so.
And for the record, I’m an avid Cutler/Bailey and overall Broncos fan. Always will be as I have family within the organization and have for my whole life, however, I hope someone would like someone to tell Washington or any team for that matter I’d go play DT for half of what Haynesworth is playing for…. hell I’d play any position for half of the minimum league pay!
It appears EVERYONE in Broncos Country is not only upset but flat out PISSED that they even LISTENED to a trade offer for Cutler. McDaniels my friend, you have just put yourself in a hole that’s going to require a division winning season. You wanted to trade Cutler, a guy you have YET to play a season with for Cassel because you need more fuzzy blankes from your past team? Dude, pull your head out of your @$$ and pay attention. If teams are TRYING to get your players it usually means THEY’RE PRETTY GOOD! Now you get to kiss the backside of Jay for the next month and pray he forgives you for being a complete tool. It took us over a decade to find another gun slinger and Jay’s on the verge of being great.

Look what it does to good teams like Dallas. Cutler…take it as a compliment that other teams are after you and be a professional.
