Foxworth to Falcons

September 2nd, 2008 - 9:11am by Adam Zinser

The Broncos have traded cornerback Domonique Foxworth to the Atlanta Falcons for an undisclosed pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.

Shanahan first mentioned the possibility of the trade after Monday’s practice, mentioning that there were several teams he had in mind.

Foxworth spent the first three years of his career with the Broncos after they selected him in the third round of the 2005 draft. Since then, he has started 20 games at various positions in the defensive backfield.

dare2bme if you would take Paymah over Foxworth then you truly have no idea what you are talking about. The cardinals game Go back and watch it again cause they rarely threw to foxys side and they mostly threw against Paymah. Foxworth has been way more consistant over his career then Paymah. That is why Paymah was always listed behind Foxy on the depth chart. During trainging camp we all heard how good of a camp Foxy was having and how he was pushing bly for the starting job. What did you hear about Paymah, the answer is nothing. He is a dime cb if that. J Will will take over the nickel spot in the first couple of games. The difference between Foxy and Paymah. Neither can really cover but one can tackle and that one is Foxworth.

MAN I HOPE SOMEONE GOT A REACH AROUND FOR THAT DEAL!!!! A 7TH RD. PICK WE SHOULD OF MADE MORE TRADES THAT DAY !!! THAT LIKE FREE MONEY!!! WHAT A WEINER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. baileythebronco says:

THAT IS A HORRIBLE TRADE!!!!!!!!!!! There is no draft pick thats gonna come in and do what foxworth can. Anyone that says foxworth isnt good is crazy, he should of been our number 2 corner he will be good for longer then bly will. not to take anything away from bly but we just gave up the best young corner we got for a damn draft pick. He will be the number one corner in atlanta he is that good and that trade sucked!

  4. 27DWILL27 says:

Some of you are saying that he was a bad player look at Dre Bly he gives up more big plays then anybody else in the NFL! Foxworth is a great player and the Broncos could have recieved way more for him. He is a number one CB on almost every team

    Good Luck Foxworth

    foxworth is better than bly

  6. broncoryan says:

like was said, obviously Shanny and crew saw something different then we know. But I just know watching him…..I agree with the previous statement that he is a soft corner, left too much room. I will give him the fact that his tackle skills have very much improved. We will see what happens but I am sure this is better off for both parties. We don’t need him, and he gets a opportunity

  7. navy_bronco_fan says:

Fox was a good dude and I wish him luck. Alot of people have been bashing him, but I think Foxworth was a superior corner to Paymah. For everyone who is saying Fox got burned against the Cardinals….WHAT?!…..I watched Paymah get burned play after play after play. If Paymah plays in the nickel teams are going to attack him…..they would be stupid not too. Still, at least we got something for Fox ’cause he would’ve been gone at the end of this year anyway. Good luck #22!

  8. royalbroncofan1 says:

I thought Foxworth was ready to compete w/ Bly for the “other” cornerback position this year. Bly was “burned toast” too many times last year !! Foxy was ready to start for us and if not, for someone else. He is a better corner than what he showed against the Cards. Obviously he wanted out. Foxworth is a class guy and best wishes to him as he moves on.

  9. gasperdn says:

Everybody who thinks Foxworth was worthless, probably hasn’t been paying attention for the last three seasons. I say they should have traded Bly for a good D-Lineman. It sucks that they didn’t even give Foxy a shot at the other starting CB, they immediately go out and trade for Bly.

  10. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I hope this pans out. This situation is one where you must have faith in your coach because I thought Foxworth was a nice nickel back and had his moments. The Falcons should find room for him, while I hope we get a nice prospect for next season. Good luck in the ATL, Foxy.

  11. 24zone says:

I thought Fox was a good player, yes he was exposed, but so was Bly. I think Fox and Bly were very close in performance. Jack Williams must be highly regarded.

  12. Mountain_Man_60 says:

Foxworth did leave a soft cushion, that’s true. But so did Bly. Foxworth made the tackles. Bly didn’t. Foxworth allowed gains, but not the big play. Bly did. Would rather have seen Bly traded and Foxworth or Paymah start. Shanahan and the powers that be see a different game than I. Fair enough.

Sometimes they’re right and I’m wrong. I liked Luther Elliss because he was a Utah guy and the Broncos didn’t like him after a year. Turned out he had nothing left, so they were right. I also wanted Bob Sanders when we picked Tatum Bell and Chris Cooley when we got Darius Watts.

Zinser says Shanahan does things in the best interest of the team. Fair enough. He works for the team. I’m sure Shanahan believes the decision is in the best interest of the team. But he is anything but infallible. Not healthy to have blind trust in him or anyone else walking the earth.

As an intelligent human, I know he’s sometimes wrong. I’m sometimes wrong. All of us in the forum are sometimes wrong. But as a Broncos fan, I hope he’s always right. As long as he is coach, our team’s success is based around him being right.

Above all, give ‘em hell in the ATL, Domonique.

Mountain_Man – You didn’t mention the one that kills me over and over. We could have had Ed Reed instead of Ashley Lelie. Ed freaking Reed.

  14. Myke J0 says:

Lets be real here people. I know Fox had the blog last year and was very friendly and all, but his play was average at best. Far from pro bowl material like a lot of you seem to think. Fox and Paymah are the exact same type of player and Karl is a little bigger. Jack williams is the TRUTH and is very dangerous with the ball in his hands. This is the best thing to happen to Fox and the for the Falcons, Fox will get a chance to play and the Falcons get a real class act for the locker room. DONE

  15. denwu says:

BOTTOM LINE IS THIS!! FOXWORTH IS WORTH MORE THAN A 7TH PICK PERIOD. IF WE ONLY GOT A 7TH PICK, THEN THIS IS A BAD TRADE. FOX WILL BE THE STARTING CB FOR ATLANTA. THAT WARRANTS AT LEAST A 4TH ROUND DUE TO HIS EXPERIENCE.

  16. Broncos97rule says:

Wow, Cmon guys, really? Fox? This dude is gonna start at Atlanta, you know it. Thats why half of you are pissed, and the other half are hating on him. Seventh round, yeah i can see it, but if he does perform, we get a sixth rounder also? I dunno, the only thing that i DO know is the reason it was Foxy instead of Paymah is that unless you play Madden everyday, on the broadened scene of the NFL, Paymah hasnt made a name for himself… YET. Now, I dont know if it’s because he’s covered in failsauce, or its because he’s one step behind on coverage, but paymah isn’t my pick for the prowlbowl this year. Foxy did what it took to stand out as a defensive player. When Champ went down with an injury like 2 years ago, (before Dre Bly, and before D-WILL [R.I.P. #27] was there), guess who was covering the #1 reciever on the opposing team? Can you now see? He’s gonna start. I hate to admit it and if he IS gonna start, then yes i ask the same question, why are you gonna only take a Seventh round and a conditional for him? I’m not Shanny. Take it up with him.

Also, the issue of Peyton Hillis. Fullback, 6’2 250. Exceptional Hands. One of the best Fullbacks that the Arkansas Razorbacks have ever seen. The Broncos were just sitting on a gold mine in the seventh round. Just watch, in college, this guy made Hester from LSU look like a nobody. In fact, he put on a clinic for LSU’s defense that game. Look it up, you’ll like what you see from a team that supposedly has no passing attack and was so dependent on DMAC…. Hrm, I really dont see how this guy didnt go earlier in the draft!! Then again, who am I to complain! Now he’s a Bronco!! Okay, looking toward the future very quickly, Jack Williams, OMFG where have YOU been? They could have used you in the ’05 AFC Championship!! I like the energy and heart. Way to come out swingin’!! Royal, Aldridge, Hillis, Williams, Woodyard, The new guys are takin over!! I am so stoked about this season!! Go Broncos Beat Oakland!!

  17. stephanie_hollis says:

I can’t belive that anyone would ever say that Fox is a number one cornerback!!! You guys are seriously delusional and in need of help.

  18. broncoryan says:

    thank you stephanie!

lets just look forward to the Atlanta game and watch Foxworthless get BURNED and OWNED!

  19. Gnarlybroncos says:

Man there are some ignorant people on here. The people that are dissing Foxworth are ignorant. He will be the #1 cb in atlanta. When we play atlanta he will get burned by Marshall but Marshall will burn every CB in the league this year. The fact of the matter is that Foxworth was close to be being as good at Bly but Karl Paymah is worthless. NFL.com and espn.com are saying expendable when we claimed Calvin Lowry off waiver but we have this guy listed at S not CB. Just wait, he will have a break out year this year and then you will all feel stupid. Also you people that are dissing Foxy are not true Bronco fans because Foxy was key part of this team on and off the field, especially in the locker room. All shanny talked about this offseason was bring in QUALITY guys. Well he just shipped off the most QUALITY guy on the team.

  20. conan444 says:

I believe Shanahan is making the right decisions. He is preparing the Broncos for the next few years ahead. I know we have lost some valuable players but age and injury is a factor. The Broncos staff are restructuring the team so it can compete at its fullest to get us back in the play offs and on to the Super Bowl!!! Go Big “D”!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. kidnateboy says:

guys calm down shanahan knows wat hes doing trust him. we might be tradeing to get lito sehporid (wateva how u spell his last name). i want this dude bad. and Ashely lelie just did a gay move. he went to oakland. al davis tring to hurt us. so dj n champ kill walker n lelie(trators)
