Former Teammates Set to Square Off

October 1st, 2009 - 2:34pm by Zach Eisendrath

Having been teammates together at the University of Minnesota, Darrell Reid knows what Cowboys running back Marion Barber brings to the table just about better than anyone.

“He definitely prepares hard week in and week out and in the offseason,” Reid said. “If you just look at his physique and the type of runner he is, you’ve got to work hard to pound the ball like he does, to punish defenders like he does. He’s that type or running back. And at the same time he’s got great speed and great vision to go along with it.”

While Reid said the two are close friends, the two former Gophers will wait to reminisce until another time. For instance, they likely won’t be watching Minnesota’s border battle with Wisconsin on ESPN together on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m not big into hanging out with the team we’re playing before the game,” Reid said. “So probably won’t do that.”

How about during the game?

“All business during the game, definitely,” Reid said. “Maybe some in between the whistle joking around type stuff, but it’s definitely mostly serious.”

Recovering from a thigh injury that forced him to sit out Week 3, Barber was a limited participant in Dallas’ practice on Wednesday. Knowing what type of player Barber is, Reid said if he’s available, the Broncos will have their hands full.

“I hope he’s healthy, but part of me hopes he doesn’t play because of the type of player that he is,” Reid said. “He’s a great running back and he brings a lot of explosiveness to the field.”

Regardless of whether Barber plays or not, Reid said he knows the defense has a tough task in containing the league’s No. 1 rushing attack, a stout offensive line and a quarterback who can spread the field to an array of receiving threats.

As a member of the NFL’s No. 1 defense, Reid said he is looking forward to matching up with the league’s top rushing offense. But he isn’t exactly looking forward to the potential matchup with his old college buddy.

“Marion’s one of my guys,” Reid said. “It always gets controversial if I get a good hit on him or if he gets a good hit on me.”

I am so excited to bust up the Cowboys. Maybe then we’ll start getting respect….

On the other hand it makes for some good motivation for our guys that people don’t respect us.

While in my teens and early twenties I raced mainly giant slalom and Downhill (super G did not exist yet), I was always for max speed, stayed away from technical slaloms, so then I entered the speed skiing tour, straight down with tear drop helmet, rubber suit and leg fairings, you go straight about a quarter mile in an avalanche chute (only slopes steep enough for high speed) into a 100 meter time trap. My fastest speed is 118.794 mph. Sorry guys I know this is off track, just answering rbf1.

    OK!!! Where is Peyton Hillis????????????????
I know he’s lead blocking but man he is like not even been in the game plan at all for the last couple games. We all KNOW he can run. I realize we have Buck and Moreno and they have been doing fabulous. I would just like to see Hillis in there a little more.
Any way now that I’ve said that. LOL I think the Broncos are more than capable of stepping up to the challenge of the Cowboys.–and they WILL!!
I think this game is gonna completely rest on who controls the time of possession. Which ever team can get the ground game going and keep it going will win. I think our D can hold’em and Romo will make some bad throws giving our secondary opportunities for a pick.
But even with two of the best teams at running the ball it might come to who ever gets the passing game going and personally I don’t want that to happen.

What i found was so funny is while watching NFL networks top 10 linebackers they had orange crush at 9. They said the broncos had a horrible pre-season and then lit it up in regular season with a 3-4 Defense.

What i found interesting was it was a 3-4 defense**Ours now** Bad pre season **ours this year** The media didnt think the broncos were for real **us** and the broncos had to beat the nfls top teams in their scheduel that year **This year** SO i was like =-o

Well, I’ll be in section “next to my baby girls bed”… It’s the only way I can watch the game for now, without being pulled out of home for a “family sunday”. My wife is not into football too much, and the babies are 3 months old and can’t cheer for the Broncos yet, but it’s always helpful to have them near the TV in case of a “dipper change” play.

And where is Eddie Royal? Dammit! He’s too good to be running fly patterns all the time. What happened to him filling the Wes Welker role? Guess that was just a fantasy.

raidrhadr, the two other things that stick out in my memories of the 77 Broncos, was the high turnovre rate and great Special teams. Let’s hope the 09 Broncos can equal that level of play.

baylinorcrush, and royalbroncofan1 I just recently moved back to Steamboat Springs took an old job I use to have for 11 years and it’s great to be back. I ride a White Knuckle Monoski hense the monodono nickname. I picked one up in 93 and been been ridin ever since.
I will have The Broncos game on the 47 with the sound kickin. I can’t wait, This old ski bum is back!

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !
