Five Defenders Out

October 11th, 2010 - 12:21pm by Eric Detweiler

Robert Ayers, Brian Dawkins, Andre’ Goodman, Darcel McBath and Wesley Woodyard will miss Sunday’s home game against the Jets due to injury, Head Coach Josh McDaniels announced Monday.

The head coach did not rule out Demaryius Thomas, who left Sunday’s loss at Baltimore with a head and neck injury after a second-quarter kickoff return.

McDaniels did not discuss the nature of the injuries or how long the players might be out. McBath left Sunday’s game in the first quarter with an ankle injury and did not return, while Dawkins went down with a knee injury in the fourth quarter and didn’t return, according to press box injury updates.

“That’s what I know right now,” McDaniels said. “As far as length of time and all that, I don’t have an answer.”

McDaniels did say that they would monitor Thomas throughout the week before making any decision on his availability for Week 6.

In the Monday morning press session, McDaniels remained positive and confident that the team will be able to improve going forward even without some of its top defenders for the next game.

He said that given the Broncos standing in a three-way tie for second-place in the AFC West, his team is well-positioned for the future as long as it can overcome adversity, which includes injuries.

“Certainly the injuries don’t make it easy, but we’ve been dealing with that for a long time now,” McDaniels said. “The next guy has to step up and play well. We’ve got to give them a good game plan. We might have to be creative with a few things that we do, but that’s part of everybody’s season.”

Diefy I think you have the right idea about the Jets. But in order to control the T.O.P. We’ll need a running game. I actually saw our O-line creating gaps and if Moreno is finally ready to go we can have our best rushing game of the season, even against the Jets. We’ll have to wait and see.

Also we should be able to stretch out the field against these guys and that never hurts the run.

Strandoftds, awesome, you are doing great with the blogging, and about the pain after the losses, the way it has been for me, in my twenties I would hurt for two three days after a loss, in my thirties it was down to one, in my forties it was just on the loss day, now in my fifties, I’m basically over it by the time I get home from the sports bar, and my wife loves it may I add, you wouldn’t believe how age can ease the outlook on things, heck by now it’s a great day if when I get up I don’t hurt too bad, the Broncos is entertainment, not life or death, and I’ve learned to treat as such, much better way to enjoy it, it drove me to the edge of the cliff so many times when Elway would drives us all crazy with his NFL comebacks records, if I still handled watching the Broncos like I did then I swear it would of killed me already.

But don’t get me wrong, I’m not regretting any of it.
