First Round Live Blog

April 25th, 2009 - 12:08pm by Gray Caldwell

1:00 p.m. MDT: So here we are, just one hour before the start of the 2009 NFL Draft — one of the most anticipated drafts for Broncos fans in recent memory. After all, this marks the first time in franchise history that the team has two picks in the first round.

We’ll keep you updated pick-by-pick throughout the first round — feel free to comment on all the picks, whether they’re falling the way you expected or a few teams are throwing some curveballs.

The publications department and the PR staff have got a “War Room” of our own up here in a conference room — we’ve got the TV tuned in to draft coverage, computers in front of us and of course a container full of cookies — we’re settled in for a long and exciting day.

1:29 p.m. MDT: We here in the Internet “War Room” have a little chart with our own predictions for our two first-round picks. Granted, we have just as much an idea of who we will pick as you all do, but just wanted to give you some of the names that are up there.

With the 12th pick, the seven of us with predictions have names from B.J. Raji to Tyson Jackson to Brian Orakpo — there’s even a Beanie Wells up there. As far as the 18th, lots of “M” names — Maybin, Maualuga and Moreno. There’s a prediction of Brian Cushing, as well. What direction do you all see the Broncos going with these first two picks?

1:48 p.m. MDT: We just switched over for the last 17.1 seconds of the Nuggets game — pretty furious comeback for Denver to have posession down one point. Looks like they’ll politely finish off this playoff game just in time for the draft.

1:55 p.m. MDT: Pretty close last shot by Melo. Regardless, that was an exciting game that’s about to lead in to an exciting draft, just five minutes away. We just had one more member of the PR staff put some predictions up for the draft — throw Ohio State cornerback Malcom Jenkins into this War Room’s predictions.

Well…here we go. The draft is just over a minute away. See you when the Lions officially take Matthew Stafford.

2:03 p.m. MDT: With the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select quarterback Matthew Stafford. The first shocker of the day.

2:08 p.m. MDT: Any predictions for the Rams’ pick?

2:14 p.m. MDT: The pick is in: St. Louis selects Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith. Kansas City is on the clock — let’s keep the guessing game going after every pick. Who are the Chiefs going to pick up?

2:24 p.m. MDT: With the third pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Tyson Jackson, defensive end out of LSU.

Wow, just a week ago people had him sitting at No. 12. Pretty quick riser on the boards. All right, Seattle’s on the clock. What direction do the Seahawks go?

2:31 p.m. MDT: The Seahawks go with Aaron Curry, linebacker from Wake Forest. He’ll step in and take the place of Julian Peterson, who Seattle traded to Detroit.

Cleveland’s up next. What do you all think?

2:37 p.m. MDT: Did everybody else just see that KFC commercial? The CEO of Kentucky Fried Chicken is Australian? How does that happen?

2:38 p.m. MDT: The New York Jets come in with a big trade from No. 17 all the way to No. 5 to pick up Mark Sanchez. So a trade for Sanchez did happen…the speculation can end.

Steve Young just called him “presidential.” I see.

2:45 p.m. MDT: Here are the details of the Jets trade: New York gets the Browns’ first-rounder (Mark Sanchez,) and the Browns get the Jets’ first-rounder (No. 17), a 2nd round pick, DE Kenyon Coleman, QB Brett Ratliff and DB Abram Elam.

So here’s a picture of the athletes that are in the green room on top of Radio City Music Hall yesterday. So far, just the fourth and fifth from the left have been picked up.

2:49 p.m. MDT: The Bengals’ pick is in — Andre Smith, offensive tackle from Alabama is headed to Cincinnati with the sixth overall pick.

2:52: p.m. MDT: Chris Hall is back from the Broncos’ official War Room with some footage of Head Coach Josh McDaniels, General Manager Brian Xanders and the rest of the front office.

2:55 p.m. MDT: Oakland’s pick is in — with the seventh pick, the Raiders select Darrius Heyward-Bey, wide receiver out of Maryland. There’s that pick for vertical speed, again.

And now it’s official — it took seven picks into the 2009 NFL Draft for Chris Berman to get on someone in this room’s nerves.

Mel Kiper just gave Oakland “an F grade” for the pick, by the way.

3:04 p.m. MDT: The Jaguars just selected the third offensive tackle of the draft — Eugene Monroe out of the University of Virginia.

Here’s a look at Xanders, McDaniels and President and CEO Pat Bowlen in the team’s war room.

3:07 p.m. MDT: Well, it looks like B.J. Raji is on the phone with the Green Bay Packers on the clock. We’ll see if that’s the actual pick. Raji’s fist-pump and his family’s cheering seem to indicate YES.

3:10 p.m. MDT: Alright, since we are about two picks away I am going to get ready and Kyle Sonneman will take over. I’ll be back.

3:14 p.m. MDT: Well looks like Raji was ready to be a Packer, he was already rockin’ the yellow t-shirt. San Fran has to love where they are sitting right now.

3:18 p.m. MDT: Michael Crabtree is on the phone, I am guessing Samurai Mike Singletary is on the other line.

Ding ding… that wasn’t much of a surprise. So we are one pick away from our selection. What do you all think?

3:23 p.m. MDT: ESPN is showing Aaron Maybin on the phone with the Bills on the clock. A sign of things to come? So far it has proved to be the case.

3:25 p.m. MDT: Pick is in for the Bills… Maybin it is. Broncos are on the clock.

3:30 p.m. MDT: The pick is in and the newest Bronco is RB Knowshon Moreno.

3:52 p.m. MDT: The Chargers just took Larry English from Northern Illinois and we are back up after the Browns.

3:56 p.m. MDT: A little technical error, but we are back and in business. Looks like the Browns just traded again with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

4:00 p.m. MDT: Josh Freeman is on the phone, so looks like the Bucs have a new signal caller. With that said, the Broncos are back on the clock.

4:04 p.m. MDT: ESPN’s Ed Werder is saying the pick is Robert Ayers, let’s see if he is right.

4:05 p.m. MDT: Werder is correct, Ayers is the newest Denver Bronco.

4:13 p.m. MDT: Once again the Browns have traded and the Eagles have picked up receiver Jeremy Maclin out of the University of Missouri. Now the Lions are on the clock for their second first-rounder.

4:24 p.m. MDT: After the Lions took tight end Brandon Pettigrew out of Oklahoma State with the 20th pick, Cleveland finally made a selection — center Alex Mack out of California. The Vikings are on the clock.

4:25 p.m. MDT: That didn’t take long — Minnesota picks up wide receiver Percy Harvin out of the University of Florida.

That is an explosive guy to add to a pretty explosive offense led by Adrian Peterson. Thoughts?

4:35 p.m. MDT: New England trades its pick to the Baltimore Ravens, and they come away with offensive tackle Michael Oher from Mississippi State. I know they’ve been replaying this story over and over, but I have to admit it is pretty cool the way he’s gotten all the way to the NFL.

4:42 p.m. MDT: The Falcons just picked up defensive tackle Peria Jerry out of Mississippi. Back-to-back selections out of Ole Miss, eh?

4:47 p.m. MDT: Vontae Davis, cornerback out of Illinois, is headed to Miami. And he just got water poured all over his nice suit.

5:04 p.m. MDT: As you can imagine, we’ve been pretty busy keeping the site updated with everything you need to know about the newest Denver Broncos. So here’s a quick rundown of the picks we’ve missed — USC linebacker Clay Matthews is headed to Green Bay, UCONN running back Donald Brown is an Indianapolis Colt and Louisville center Eric Wood will join the offensive line in Buffalo.

The New York Giants are on the clock.

5:07 p.m. MDT: The pick is in — with the 29th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select Hakeem Nicks, wide receiver out of the University of North Carolina. A very fine institution, I might add.

5:16 p.m. MDT: Here’s Tennessee’s pick at No. 30 — Kenny Britt, wide receiver from Rutgers, is the newest Titan.

5:23 p.m. MDT: Looks like Beanie Wells is headed to Arizona, and Pedro Gomez just gave a pretty funny story — Edgerrin James is currently sitting at an NBA basketball game as his team drafts another running back.

5:26 p.m. MDT: Now Chris Wells to the Cardinals is official, and we’re down to the last pick of a first round that seems to have flown by.

It seems pretty surprising that Rey Maualuga is still on the board — anyone think Pittsburgh might take a chance on him? That seems like it’d be a pretty scary addition to a scary defense. Plus, he and Troy Polamalu can have a hair grow-off.

5:30 p.m. MDT: Well, so much for that idea — Pittsburgh picks up Ziggy Hood, defensive tackle out of Missouri.

That marks the end of an exciting first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, and we’re just getting started today. The Broncos still have a pick in the second round — No. 16 in the round (No. 48 overall) — so even though this is the end of the live blog, we’ll have the pick up on the front of the site immediately after it’s made, and we’ll continue to have video and audio of the picks and Coach McDaniels all day.

Thanks for sticking with us so far — our Broncos draft coverage is only getting started.

Could anyone explain what happened on this day one????
A RB looking to our team (doesn’t make any sense) and don’t tell me that was the best player on the board.
Just don’t get it. And then we trade our 1st round pick next year to Seattle, another senseless trade………….

  2. craijan says:

    They are also winless

  3. Greatness007 says:

Deify I fill you ,but when the Dolphins got Parcels. Every were he went he dont that before. I want to believe, but like I said before. He makes me nervous with all the clearing of the throat when he talks. Like he don’t believe his self. Trust me I want too. I don’t wanna go 5-11. When I know with the proven players we already have we can get 9 or 10 win. Look at it from this point. What if (and that a big what if) the players looking at this to like what the f@#$%. They come to Dover Valley like “we gave up that for this”. IF in don’t pan out He looses the team and were back to square 1.

  4. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

    I’m sooo hungry now… Skittles, peppermint patties, kit-kats, twiks, gummy bears… MMMMMMmmmmm….

I love the 1st two picks… I like the Smith and McBeth pick… put due to the curcumstances, I reallly don’t like HOW we got smith… but I do like him…

  5. bullridinmike27 says:

i like that smith to and if you watch video of him he kinda reminds me of champ and i think he could be pretty good. i like morno but with that pick and all the signings of the other running backs, what do you guys think mcdaniels is going to do with hillis, you think he is gonna play him that often this year or trade him or even cut him?

  6. dpbroncos says:

look not to say CB alphonso wont be bad or good but how do you take some of these players, when clearly there are better needs and better players on the board(malaluga), come on… then you take a TE with 12 career catches are you kidding me. Mc Idiot doesnt have a clue, What is bowlen thinking of. This team is spinning out of control

  7. bullridinmike27 says:

hell that secoind round trade was like trading jay cutler for kyle orton, oh wait we did that too

  8. bullridinmike27 says:

i am glad that we haven’t drafted a qb because i personally think that the qb’s this year aren’t going to be as good as next years.

  9. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

Peyton Hillis is a FB… I think McD will use him as a FB as well… Obvioulsy, he will still put him in there as a 1 yard needed power back, but I think he’ll put Hillis where he will work best to compliment Moreno…

  10. iceberg12 says:

I am CONFUSED!!! What are we doing McDaniels. Lets talk the !st pick, RB after we just picked up 3 in the off season and we have a great back in P. Hillis. And once again we had the number offense last year and the number 29th Defense. We could have gotten Orakpo and then Ayers and really improved our Deffense. Now the second pick cool because once again our defense was horrible last year!!!
But then we traded up to get a CB that was projcted to go in the 3rd round. And we gave up a 1st round draft pick next year!!!!! What are we doing???
Now, why did we trade our two 3rd round picks for the LAST 2nd round pick and a 4th for a TE??? Once again, our offense is not the issue!!! And he’s not even a catching TE. But we do have a catching TE in Scheffler and a blocking TE in Gram how can also catch when we need him too!!! If we keep this up, it is going to be a long season!!! I hope McD can make this work!!!!

  11. bullridinmike27 says:

if by some chance michael crabtree fell to the number 12 pick i would have loved to see that just could you imagine crabtree and marshal on the outsides and royal in the slot that would have been one of the best three wide out sets ever i am sure of it.

  12. Deify_you says:

oh no no no bullridinmike27 we could only use our 12th and 18th picks for defensive players remember? We cant draft any offensive players till the 3rd round lol. We’ll guys I’m going to bed have fun arguing about draft picks, Jay Cutler, and Skittles lol.

  13. mrbroncofan says:

the rbs that we picked up in free agency are nothing more than backups. that means we had a need a rb. moreno has potential. he can be a starter. something we never really had last year. just because we have all these rbs does not mean we have to keep all of them. we take the best rbs and release whoever does not perform in training camp.

  14. meagher.phil says:

This was terrible draft: Denver could have moved up with their 12th overall and a 3rd to get Raji.. BUILDING out new 3-4. they pass and pen a RB. Nice he was the highest rated, but usless when they wil be letting up 40 points a game.
By that they also pass up a fantastic DE from Texas.

To top all of thi off, we cash in a FIRST rounder for a 2nd roun pick (that would likely have fallen 9 spots) and get 0 extra compesation. In short, this means the bears pick replaces ours next year.

As a nice slap in the face, we trade away the last piece of the Cutler trade essencialy and our own 3rd rounder for a TE that will be a 2nd string blocker. Congrats… Cutler for a combine wonder, a 58 db and a 2nd string BLOCKING TE

There is NO reason McDaniels or Xander should be employeed come the morning. None what so ever. Within the last 2 months or so, we have fallen below Oakland AND KC to be the joke of he AFC West.

  15. Greatness007 says:

I want to think thatwe have better that they would have drafted otherwise. In every press conference we need a D-line man. Some of there player can’t play in the 3-4 at the 5 tech. We need a OLB. this is all his words not mine. So you take baby LT (the RB not LB). Maybe Ayers might turn out to be like the OLB or 5 tech like Simon Fletcher. I’m giving it the benefit of the dout. He make the reasoning that Aphonso was graded as a 1ST ROUND THIS YR FOR THEM? HUh? To me he was concerned that the Pats were going up to get him. He did think it all out or he would have got another pick in return also not just that one.You trade to 3′s this yr for a 2nd round pick we could have got in the 4th. and a 4thround pick this yr? The reasoning is that, he don’t like using OL players as the 3rd TE in Goalline or short yardage? If were doing good because were 0-0 now. Well the Loins are 0-0 so when did we become a custom to settling for being regular. I though we compete for the Superbowl every yr.

  16. iceberg12 says:

What’s really going to suck is when Chicago does better than us next year and we gave away our 1st round pick and we get there crappy pick. Then Cutler will be sitting there in Chicago laughing at the Denver organization because we gave him up for K. Orton, Ayers, a CB that would have been there in the 4th round, and a back up TE. We gave him up for 1 IMPACT player and that would be Ayers!!! You can’t say Orton is because if we don’t draft a QB, we are going to go and get J.P. Losman. WOW, way to go McD, you are batting 1000 since you got here!!!!! It takes mot head coaches a LOT longer to destroy an organization than what you did. You must be real pro!!!

  17. BroncosFan973 says:

    Bronco Nation,
All we need in the fourth is a NT, Roy Miller is a possibility I believe.
And an ILB, Frantz Joseph is a possibility.

  18. denverbro89 says:

    Jarron Gilbert is still available

  19. ddenver says:

Jarron Gilbert is still available but now we have no pick in the 3rd round and i bet he’d be gone by the end of 3rd round

  20. bullridinmike27 says:

as of right now i think the lions for there picks made great picks and i think the patriots made good pics.

  21. Greatness007 says:

I like that kid Jarron Gilbert(been calling him Jarrett all day)lol

  22. Monto says:

I’m not necessarily against the picks we made but it’s obvious McDaniels was an OFFENSIVE coach, making our first pick a RB then trading two 3rd round picks for a TE, just doesn’t make sense, we’ve picked up a load of free agents for RB and his first priority should have been strengthening the D!

If we went into the draft willing to lose so many picks to move up then we should have got some more first rounders this year and made it worthwhile.

No matter how good Smith could be, it still doesn’t justify giving up our own 1st round pic next year for a 2nd round this year (or passing on Maualuga/Brace). If Orton or Simms don’t prove to be solid starters this year then we’l seriously regret it, theres good QBs coming through next year and having 2 1st rounders would have meant we’d have a serious chance of grabbing one. We should at least have got some lower round picks this year but from the looks of it we just got spooked and sacrificed way too much.

  23. ddenver says:

i dont understand the trade for the TE he is projected to go 5-6 rounds just stupid….

  24. ddenver says:

if mcdaniels is hire to ruin the broncos i would give him an A+++++

  25. G funk says:

I guess all you negitive fans out there have video tape on every person in the draft i also guess you guys were out at every work out Or were you you able to get in denver war room. I think not. Mcd has always said before the draft they were going to take the best player in the draft for or team. I know we needed D fence but when you have a great RB fall into your lap you have to take it Yes we have alot of RB but if this was last year we would of loved to have these Backs. When teams start picking the best player on the board that don’t fit there system the end up like detroit. they have had the most first round picks in years and there still at the bottom of the league. So what i’m trying to say just because they were great in college does not mean there going to be great in the NFL. so before you guys start calling the COach names wait and see how these players pan out.

  26. bullridinmike27 says:

so G funk if you were a head coach your telling me you have traded your 1st round pick next year for the second round pick this year

  27. Greatness007 says:

I’m still Laughing at Gruden dropping the f bomb. When he heard we traded our first round pick next yr for Alphonso. Rich tell him you can’t say that we on live TV. Man thats gonna be on bloopers I need that CD.

  28. aSharpeIdea_84 says:

Hand to head, scratch scratch scratch. ??? We will wait and see.

No doubt Moreno is a great pick, but just thought Orakpo for sure, as did everyone else I’m sure, that was quite a jaw dropper, especially considering what they did in FA getting 3 RB. Bizarre no doubt about it.

Alphonso may end up being a total stud for us but giving up a 1st rd pick for him? scratch scratch?

Over all very pleased with our picks. Ayers will hopefully be good enough to start and maybe give Moss a kick in the pants.

I keep thinking, “What if Moreno ends up being our Adrian Peterson rookie sensation?”

Are they going to get a QB tomorrow or go for Losman or trade for Quinn? Regardless how or where they go, there will be 3 QB’s in camp guaranteed.

    Go Broncos!!

  29. Monto says:

we’re not saying they’re bad picks but looking at the team they’re just not the picks we needed and you’ve got to admit, the trades we made gave up way too much

  30. Monto says:

I can definetly see us picking up a QB somewhere in the draft as an extra back-up. I doubt we’l try and trade for one … that said we seem to have an abundance of RBs, they can’t all be staying

  31. Greatness007 says:

I think with the S from Texas Tech pick. they might go for Gram.

  32. cutler6101 says:

we needed a rb ppl have to account for look what lt did for chargers…moreno is explosive. robert ayers would have been around in other rounds. there were better players to draft at all of our positions….how in the h did we trade into the 37 spot and trade a 1st next year and get a cb when we could have gotten ron brace…we needed that guy! smith is good but come on not worth a first next year when next years draft is supposed to be the better draft out of the past 5 or 6 years… why did we draft a tightend and give up so much for him when we could have gotten our defense back on track……wow mcd you guys are f-ing up the draft. i bet mike shanahan and the goodmans are laughing at mcd….

  33. G funk says:

know i’m not saying every move was smart but i’m saying we aren’t pro at this, it easy for us to sit here and say they should of done this or that. that fact is they get paid to do this. there pros. so for us to say they made a bad desision is just bad. DO you think Mcd is trying to fail at his job that foolish he making decision on what he need and maybe he thought some of the players he needed would not be there

  34. Greatness007 says:

G funk you might be write. I know mike Shanny system inside and out so I might be thinkin of his same system. I just chaged my mind anfter seeing Orakpo on TV saying he didn’t want to go to us.(maybe becuz he was talking to a Redskin talk show not the other way around) ?He said he does not like the 3-4 so ok I’ll let that pass. Baby LT( I mean the RB) needs to start for us to justify this. Ayers says he was a target since March with the broncos good. The TE im lost at. He don’t like using an OL man as a 3rd TE and that why he did what he did? COME ON MAN!

  35. cutler6101 says:

I kinda think we gave up next years number 1 because if we would have drafted 2 number ones in back to back years we would have salary cap issues to worry about. greatness007 you said you had a guy on the inside but you seem to not have any fresh info on anything so i am calling you out b/c I believe you are blowing smoke and thinking you might be young…not trying to sound mean but you said you had a source on the inside….if your lying thats just not cool man! you missed on everything you said… i believe mcd will use both hillis and moreno in a rushing attack kinda like carolina does I hope…it would be nice to see what torain can do but I think he might be a bust based on him being injury prone. also I guess the commissioner isn’t going to suspend bmarsh b/c if he was he should have addressed that before the draft so the team could prepare for it. I wish we wouldn’t have traded to get a tightend when we already have 2 good ones..the picks we traded could have gotten us good players in those rounds….mistake

  36. G funk says:

i’m just saying i’m one of those guys that doesn’t make perdiction i like to see it all on the field before i say it was a bad draft

  37. cutler6101 says:

g funk neither mcd or xanders are pros at this in their respective positions now….they have more talent than we do at measuring the talent of guys but when it comes to making a deal they suck at it….they gave away way to much to get who they got. and i can think of a few things mcd has messed up…but I see your point….sharpidea nice post

  38. Greatness007 says:

One I said they wanted jackson. Witch they did KC just took him. 2 Noone had them pickin a RB Noone. Been a Bronco fan since *1′ i dont need to go any futher. The Salary cap is goin up next yr and heir going to put in the rookie cap.(collcetive bargining agreement) So that does not fly. If your gonna be good then your draft pick will be lower correct. so he think we wont be good. The deal for the 1 next yr is the we get the highest they get the lowest. So that does not fly either. I listen to what he’s saying and if im not correct every comentator was lost at what the Broncos were doing? Radio people in Denver was lost!!! This is not coming from nowhere !! Why would you give back-up RB 4yrs 10 each to play back-up?? That does not make since!!!!

  39. G funk says:

Come on Cutler6101 To say something like that is foolish I is guess you are a pro Head coach i think not i don’t see you on the side line so guess I’ll trust them before you. and to say we gave up to much its to early to tell all I hear is we gave up our next years first round pick well what i have to say about that is that next year. Mcd perparing for this years needs. not next year.

  40. Greatness007 says:

Both Buckhalter and Arrington got that deal to be back-ups? but you trade a 1 next yr cuz of the cap?? you give Goodman 5yrs 23mil? Use the pick you gave up to get Alphonso and tell NFL Network “we can pencil him in otherside of Champ?? If you can follow this thinkin ok it’s me then.

  41. broncos20 says:

I tried not to think of how foolish that last some of those picks were, especially the TE and a bit on Smith.
But I just cant take it…This is insanely stupid…drafting a blocking TE in the SECOND ROUND????????????????????????????????as if he is the second coming of Gonzales or Sharpe…he better be…
I liked the Alphonso pick, but giving up a first rounder for him was absolutely unecessary, he couldve been around later….Plus we could’ve used those picks elsewhere….
We know Mcdaniels and Xanders are rookies in their respected positions, they didnt have to go this far to show it….I get the feeling that they liked these players, and were easily fooled into trading up to acquire them..
please , I hope I am wrong, and my words come back to bite me nxt year….

    Tomorrow has to be better.

  42. texark-fan says:

ok, so we gave a lot of money to Buckhalter and Arrington…. they can be cut like anyone else. the money is called “game checks” FOR A REASON. what if Moreno wasn’t our pick????
the T/E pick bugs me… but if you stop and think about it, what were we the worst at? INSIDE THE 20. with a very good run blocking TE then just maybe we might improve there.
yes, the trade giving away a #1 next year was a bonehead thing to do..next year is a uncaped year, the price of 2 #1 picks might be 100 mil each, who knows for sure?

  43. LBWilson56 says:

    WTF???????

  44. LBWilson56 says:

    Monodono..where r u????Say something….HELP!!!!!!!

  45. Greatness007 says:

Now thats the definition of a “SMOKE SCREEN” wow

  46. broncogodd says:

    OK ENOUGH ALLREADY!!!!
Did you guys not see Deon Sanders talking in the begining of the show saying his man was Alfonso and so did Gruden. You all need to look at the roster before you jump to all these conclutions, anyone remember a DT named Carlton Powell? He is going to be a stud he was hurt last year so we didn’t see it but we will this year.
Oh and what about Marcus Thomas I think those two in the middle along with Ayers and Dj and Andres will be just fine.
Did you guys not see what Cuttler was like in his press confrences.sure he was good but he wasn’t a leader.
Kyle Orton is a leader and all the guys in the locker room are saying it he had a great year last year and I believe in this offence he will be great now that he is protected by the greatest Oline in football and now we have a legitt back who is a total stud in the backfield.
So for all you fair weather babys out there get your thumbs out of your mouths and grow up to be a true fan and not jump to all these conclutions about what you all think you know because ala in all you don’t know what the coach and owner know otherwise you would be the one in the office. We are as of right now 0-0 same as everyone else if we go out and get smoked for a 0-5 start then maybe you have a legitt reason to complain until then just be a fan not a arm chair owner/coach.

Interesting day, not sure about the picks but they do make some sense they help the team improve in each area. Got a running back that hopefully can stay health and score some points. A TE to block for him. Got some secondary help probably because the guys we got are a bit old, thats not a knock on champ or dawkins. And picked a DE/OLB that can rush the passer, hopefully. Each of the picks make some sense and do help but there are some big holes to fill like NT.

I except tomorrow we selected a NT, DE, QB and a K plus some special teams aces.

And for all those people that wanted Rey or Orakpo. We got alot of LBs and projected LBs (moss, doom and crowder) so I think they thought their were getting better value with Moreno and Ayers. The reason they didn’t pick Rey is because they must like who we got. DJ and Andra to start with Spencer Larsen and Wes Woodyard as the backups.

    Predictions for tomorrow:

May trade into the 3rd if there is a NT or DE they like. Most likely two DT/NT will be picked tomorrow and one DE. A QB in the 4th or 5th round, a kicker in the 7th rounder. And special teams players the other picks, most likely ILB and OLB.

They can’t go 0-5. If they lose to Cincy and Cleveland to be 0-2 its gonna be brutal!

g funk to say that neither mcd or xanders are pros at their respective positions is true as you can get because for one mcd has never in his life been a head coach and xanders has never in his life (never should have been ours anyway…a lot more ppl would pop up before I would have picked him..but thats not to say pat bowlen didn’t see something in him and chose him which then I could understand b/c pat knows more than I do) so there wasn’t anything foolish about what I said….neither have ever been the guy to call the shots and all I was getting at was they made some good decisions but the last couple of picks came out of no where….you must not have read what I typed….can you read? I said I saw where you were coming from….man some ppl are touchy chill dude! and they gave away to much and I am sure 98% of the ppl on here would agree with me.
and greatness007 the reason I said he might have gave up the first round pick so fast was b/c we would have salary cap issues was my opinion and it was based off the fact we have a lot of ppl to resign on the team after this season and I know the cap is going up but with all the ppl we have to resign it would pose a problem….but he is building for this year and not next but they were handing out our picks like the m&m’s on the broncos draft table at the radio music hall…and mcd gave away our number 1 not the number 1 the bears gave us..so he is expecting us to do better than Chicago not the other way around…and that is a good sign. I really am sorry if I offend either of you
