First in Line

July 28th, 2011 - 9:34am by Gray Caldwell

A.J. Pierce, Jordan Clayton, Rudy Trijo, Robert Knight and Mary Lopez continued their annual tradition of lining up to be the first fans in for the Broncos’ opening practice of training camp.

The group arrived to the team’s training facilities at 3 a.m., as they do each year. While several hundred other fans tailgated in the parking lot, Pierce, Clayton, Trijo, Knight and Lopez patiently awaited the 7:50 a.m. opening of the gates.

“We just wanted to keep the tradition rolling,” Pierce said. “It’s exciting. It’s a fun environment and a good atmosphere. We come to several practices each camp.”

While the group is eager to get a look at the rookies, they are most excited to see their favorite veteran players.

“Probably (Brian) Dawkins or Champ Bailey,” Pierce said. “Also, Von Miller – he is going to be a beast.”

The team has 18 practices scheduled –- all of which will be free and open to the public.

LaCanfora just said on nfl network he see’s the broncos getting 3-5 wins this year no matter who are quarterback is.

  2. baylinorcrush says:

I can honestly see that based on the schedule.

And poor guys they don’t know Von Miller isn’t there.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Hey Bro, do you mind me asking you how old you are?

  4. BeastFromEast92 says:

I thought Miller was ready to jump in with both feet,no matter how much he makes,so why is he not signed?
    Probably his freaking agent!

  5. baylinorcrush says:

Haha, money, money, doesn’t really matter what they say, once you are up against it you fight for it.

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

It’s what makes them little green monsters!

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks, it helps me to relate.

BTW, this blog is a good way to tell us there is no news on the FA front, haha.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

All kinds of new writers this season, Stuart Zaas, welcome to our blog world.

  9. Bro says:

But i have been a fan for each and every day of those 18 years and will for life!

  10. hometeam007 says:

I just keep checking the wire to see when the deal is done for Orton. It has got to be today. What might be holding it up? Orton wanting a long term contract in place?

  11. baylinorcrush says:

We are in a lull again.

  12. baylinorcrush says:

Different points of view about what’s the hold up, all discussed mainly by BFE and I in the last two blogs this morning.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

This basically answers our wishes of Hill needing to go I guess:

One notable absence from the start of training camp is veteran safety Renaldo Hill.

Hill is scheduled to make $2.4 million, and his spot on the field is vulnerable after the team drafted two safeties — including free safety Rahim Moore — in April.

Moore and fellow rookie Quinton Carter were also not on the field for the start of practice. Carter’s contract should be finalized this morning, and the team is also close to finishing Moore’s four-year deal. Both players could be on the field this afternoon.

Teams will be allowed to begin cutting players this afternoon.

Veteran running back Correll Buckhalter, whose name remains on the roster, has already been told he will be cut, and he is not at practice today.

I tried to read stuff from 2 blogs back and finished it. Then i saw you guys amassed over 130 on the last blog too and i just couldn’t read it. Can i get some quick hits? lol

so far i know Haynesworth to NE, Reggie to Miami, Miami might wanna wait for us to cut orton (which is dirty especially since Reggie was more likely to be a cap casualty) … anything else? TRB out…

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Hill-B-Gone

  16. baylinorcrush says:

And this is just plain weird, the guy who organized the off sesaon workouts of all players:

The Broncos can’t officially start restructuring safety Brian Dawkins’ contract until 4:01 p.m. today. And then when he signs, he can’t start practicing until the collective bargaining agreement is officially ratified on Aug. 4.

Something about the screwy new CBA rules. There’s been talk they might move the ratification up a few days. Don’t they have to? Dawkins is watching practice and he can attend meetings and work out on his own.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

If you can’t do the work I can’t either, LOL.

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB,I still see reports that the Cards are waiting for Miami to commit to Orton before they commit to Kolb, even tho we know they want Kolb, don’t know what to think of it!

  19. Bro says:

Excited for this aftertoon when we can start clearing up our roster and find out if there will be any big names waived all around the league

  20. baylinorcrush says:

    Hill-B-Lee

  21. 1nOnlyTRB says:

We barely heard much from Moss in NE and he played well every game … Belichek knows how to motivate … hopefully he can motivate Haynesworth. And for a 5th round pick 2 YEARS from now … not bad at all. Altho im sure he would rather be in the 4-3 than the 3-4. TRB out..

  22. BeastFromEast92 says:

    That’s whacked,Dawk can’t practice with the team,Hell he’s under contract,I don’t get it!

  23. henryac says:

I don’t see Orton staying in Denver even if the Miami thing falls through without taking a big cut in pay and I don’t think his ego could stand that. If they can’t trade him and he won’t re-structure his deal, I could see Elway cutting him rather than pay him that money. The problem with the trade may be that Miami has suddenly realized what everyone on this blog already knows, he isn’t worth as much as they are trying to get for him!

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Wtf? how can they be waiting to see what we do with Orton before they commit to kolb? That is so backwards. Kolb is their first Orton is their second choice so it shouldn’t matter … not unless they just wanna see what Miami gave up. Its so stupid …. if they want Orton they should just go for him. Besides, once Orton is OFF the Market, their Only option is Kolb and they will have to pay watever to get him. TRB out…

  25. baylinorcrush says:

So it sounds to me that anyone we sign in FA can’t practice until August 4.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

henryac I believe a big chunk of Orton’s contract is guaranteed, so if they cut him they still would have to pay him, I don’t see that at all.

  27. BeastFromEast92 says:

Dosen’t make sense to me either, but I think it’s dirty of Miami to be in trade talks for Orton and Lombardi reported this morning that Miami might wait and see if we cut Orton,so they can pick him up for nothing!

  28. baylinorcrush says:

If Orton is not in Miami he’ll probably start here would be where I put my money, as unpopular it may sound.

  29. BeastFromEast92 says:

bay from what I’m hearing Orton can be cut without us having to pay him,I don’t know how that can happen tho, never heard of that before!

I could be wrong,I have been many times!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

This is an old article of Klis I pulled out to show guarantee moneys for Orton even so the figure is over two years:

Orton was rewarded Thursday with a one-year, $8.8 million contract extension through the 2011 season, according to an NFL source.

Coupled with the $2.62 million salary Orton was tendered as a restricted free agent this year, his contract is now for two years at $11.4 million, of which $8.1 million is guaranteed.

  31. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Not unless there was a clause in new CBA called the McDaniels clause protecting teams from bone headed extention and personel moves … I think we will have to pay Orton. And Bay is right, we might just have to start him and get our moneys worth. Heck we might be able to trade him before week 6. TRB out….

  32. Bro says:

Shelly Smith is reporting that the biggest standout at the broncos first practice has been Knowshon Moreno.
Reporting the new slimed down Moreno is really fast and that the team and coaches are really impressed.

  33. BeastFromEast92 says:

    ESPN reports:

Though the Dolphins are the front-runners to land Orton, his current deal is troublesome for both teams. The Broncos, who entered the week needing to shed over $5 million in salary to meet the $120.375 million salary cap, want to drop Orton’s $8.8 million salary and move forward with Tim Tebow as their starting quarterback. If they can’t trade him by the end of the week, the Broncos will either have to restructure his contract or cut him outright.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

    Here is the exact figure:

    Orton

A team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Orton’s extension is a one-year, $9 million contract, with $5.5 million guaranteed.

  35. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Great news Bro. Go Knowshon. Im glad i am still backing him and he hasnt dissapointed … i would have to see with my eye but it makes me excited for him. TRB out…

  36. baylinorcrush says:

Guaranteed means what it means, GUARANTEED, otherwise why even using stupid words like that in contracts? I just go by my common business sense here, not by what the NFLN says.

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

Lombardi says Denver has to call Miami’s bluff and act like they will keep Orton unless they get what they want, and Miami will have to hold their ground, because if Orton is not dealt today he will be on the pay roll tomorrow,so I guess we are at the mercy of Miami,Bastards!!!

  38. Yovi21 says:

..Hope that is true about Moreno…I hope they get some pictures up here…and maybe a practice recap…hopefully by 11!

  39. baylinorcrush says:

We are not the only ones where not everything is going smoothly:

With the two sides unable to reach agreement on a paycut, the 49ers officially told CB Nate Clements they will be releasing him.

  40. BeastFromEast92 says:

Glad to hear Moreno is finally showing up,I still have high hopes for him!

  41. baylinorcrush says:

Which should bring Clements in the picture for us I would think…

  42. Yovi21 says:

It’s ok! I had faith coming into camp that Tebow could beat Orton outright on the field..and I still believe that!

  43. baylinorcrush says:

You guys noticed how I haven’t said a word about Moreno, LOL.

  44. Bro says:

Also at dove valley, brady quinn is overthrowing alot of passes and brandon bing has allready picked him off twice

  45. BeastFromEast92 says:

Bing is gonna be good I think!

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

    That’s alright bay,when Moreno steps it up,we won’t hold it against you,lol j/k.

  47. baylinorcrush says:

That’s the way Quinn has always looked, haha.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

    Any pulled hammies yet?

  49. Bro says:

We can only hope and wait to see when it comes game time
