After becoming the first player in team history to lead the NFL in receiving yards last season, wide receiver Brandon Lloyd turned in his first 100-yard game of 2011 last Sunday in Green Bay. Lloyd finished with eight catches for 136 yards. His eight catches were the second-most in his nine-year career while the 136 yards ranked fourth.
“(Lloyd) did a nice job, and (QB) Kyle (Orton) had some nice throws to him,” Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy said on Thursday. “Brandon was flying off the football. That’s the guy we love to see.”
Lloyd, who had been limited by a groin injury that kept him out of Denver’s Week 2 game against Cincinnati, credited having a full week of practice as helping spur the big performance.
“Definitely, full weeks of practice together give the quarterback and play callers a lot of confidence in taking those kind of plays down the field,” he said. “So, we’re working hard in practice, completing a lot of passes in practice, and hopefully they carry over to the game.”
To beat the division-leading Chargers this week, Lloyd knows that the team has to capitalize on its red zone opportunities.
“I think we learned a valuable lesson in the Green Bay game that not only do we have to start fast, but we have to put seven points on the board,” he said. “Getting in a three-point game against San Diego is just as dangerous as getting in a three point game against the Green Bay Packers, so we’re going to have to put up seven points. We’re going to have to move the ball on offense and get in scoring position and score sevens.”
In two games last season against the Chargers, Lloyd caught 11 passes for 151 yards with one touchdown in each game, a scoring trend he hopes to continue this Sunday.

Yep sevens would be nice….can someone tell Orton!!
Very Nice!!!
It is exciting to have such skilled wrs on the field for the Broncos again! And both Brandon and Decker are great teammates to (apparently). Non of the drama you see with other diva wrs. I have also noticed that Brandon has dropped his trademark ‘can’t see me’ hand gestures after a great catch. I actually miss them. Not always appropriate when we are losing though.
“Kyle (Orton) had some nice throws to him,” and one very ugly one that fortunately turned out to get us 6 points anyway. And McCoy is just as responsible for calling the right red zone plays as the team is for executing them. The guys can prepare all they want, but if the plays are obvious and/or predictable, we ain’t getting 6.
Our secondary is gonna have their hands full keeping up with that Colorado native… VJackson.
Gotta get up there boys!! Manhandle that guy!
As long as Von Doom is working in on Rivers the pressure won’t be on our secondary and San Diego will have a hard time getting sevens!!!
With Champ back it is not the corners that will get a lot of work, Rivers is going to pick on the safetys all day, just like Rogers did, WR and TE all day up the seam, Dawkins and Moore will get a lot of work.
Bay – my prediction:
DEN – 20
SD – 26
Thanks!
We need Wilfork to help with the interceptions!
Bay, I haven’t predicted before but might as well.
SD – 34
Denver – 21
Hope I miss this one way off for the Broncos!
With CHAMP back on the right side of the field which was the side that got tore up all game against rodgers and the pack, this game will b alot beter for our secondary. We hold the chargers vincent jackson to not get those huge plays he gets, our defense and Orton in the red zone is gonna b the reason y the broncos get over there season high 24 pts 34to17 DENVER
wonder if Elway is sitting up in that pressbox thinking to himself, “If I could, I would be out there still under center.”
I wonder if he still has that cannon of an arm?
man, it obviously takes a lot to water down that orange kool-aid! haha
Broncos: 17
Chargers: 24
hmmmm brian……..that pick looks familiar! haha
Champp will take VJax out of the game … IF Vjax plays. Incase some of yall aint heard … the man is nursing a hamstring injury i believe and hasn’t practiced all week. No gates either … gonna be the Malcolm Floyd show or should I say the Malcolm Floyd blackout … cuz champ will shut him down. No Dawk is gonna be harsh … I believe in Quinton Carter but he still has ALOT to learn … he doesn’t know the position as well as Dawk … heck he doesn’t know the D as well as Moore because he never practices with the ones … but I am sure he will this week but he will struggle … believe it … kids got no experience.
TRB
Oh you know elways cannon is built for mileage. Bet he can still chuck a 60 yard air strike
wouldn’t it be something to see him suit up for the game! the stadium would loose it! haha
I think he’d avoid any helicopter spins tho………
Yeah..what can I say its too hard to keep track of everyone’s picks, that’s baylinorcrush’s job right? haha
I think it will come down to the last drive in the final minutes of the 4th qtr. We’ll have the ball and we’ll be driving, then we’ll either go 3 & out or a turnover. Then our defense will need to step up but since they were just on the field they’ll be a little tired. Rivers will start out by going underneath to some checkdowns. Allen will send a blitz on 3rd down and catch us in a gotcha as they throw a screen to Matthews. He gets it in the redzone with about 3 minutes left to go. Then Rivers finds Jacson in the back of the endzone on a questionable catch that is reviewed and confirmed. Then we have about 2:23 seconds to deal with being down a TD. We start at the 20 Orton finds Decker for a decent gainer and goes to two minute warning. Next he finds Lloyd near the sidelines but its knocked away. On 2nd down play action screen to McGahee gets about 7-8 yards. 3rd down we take a shot downfield to Lloyd who comes up with a huge crab just inside Charger territory. On the very next play Orton gets strip sacked and the game is over…we ultimately lose by a TD.
Elway can probably still run faster than Orton too….. but I’d be willing to bet the Oline would protect Elway pretty darned well
alright, it’s settled………….let’s throw another name in the QQ.
ELWAY!!!
hahaha
The online petition to request Elway come out of retirement:

I reject your quarterback and substitute my own…
I know you guys are all kidding, but believe me a football player at his age is lucky if he can walk, much less run or throw missiles, specially with like a record number of sacks in his body. The guy is done and is lucky to be able to swing a golf club, I can’t even do that anymore.
Dawkins has been ruled out?
I think TRB is just guessing from the earlier reports this week, same with Jackson, we won’t know for sure til Sunday is my guess.
what bay said … just going off what has been said so far … as far as injuries and not practicing. TRB
If only Elway could still play…….. we’d have not QB situation.
Just got done reading where both Orton and Rivers are tied for the league leading most interceptions. and both have 2 fumbles as well.
Does that mean Orton is on the same level as Rivers? or that Rivers’ is stepping down to Ortons level?
The W-L doesn’t reflect those mistakes for SD.
I think the safeties will be tested in a big way this game.
vjackson and bates are out this wkend period. If vjackson plays he will be out, it will just take a couple plays, his hammy is really jacked up.
13 21 DEN
i have a gut feeling that the broncos will pull this one off even against the heavily favored chargers, a strong defensive effort will be key
Den 24
SD 21
