Finishing Strong

November 7th, 2012 - 5:33pm by Gray Caldwell

Through nine weeks, the Broncos have done the majority of their damage in the third and fourth quarters.

In the second half of games, Denver has outscored its opponents 166 to 67.

The team hopes that formula holds true for the second half of the season.

“It’s all about these next eight games,” tight end Jacob Tamme said. “Now it’s on to the second half of the season and on to the Panthers. You look at it through sort of that lens, and you’re able to see where you kind of stand, but then you come back and get ready to go one week at a time.”

As the team enters the third quarter of the season, it will try to — at least — match its 3-1 performance in the second quarter of the slate.

Fox said that’s the goal each quarter, and the Broncos are only one game off that pace in the first half of the campaign.

“This next quarter has two road games, that’s the first thing that jumps out at you, and two division games,” quarterback Peyton Manning said. “Even though it’s a quarter, you still take those one at a time. We are all about the Carolina Panthers.”

Overall, Fox said he has been pleased with the team’s performance thus far, especially with all the excitement surrounding the addition of Manning before the season began.

Each of the Broncos’ first eight opponents have featured a Pro Bowler at quarterback, part of an early stretch the team knew would test its mettle.

“Of course we looked at the first half of our schedule and six opponents were playoff teams from a year ago out of the eight (games), so we knew there were going to be some bumps,” Head Coach John Fox said of his 5-3 squad. “We still have a whole half to play, and most times they count the full season, so we’ll see what that brings us in the second half.”

Riding a three-game win streak into Bank of America Stadium this Sunday, the team will look to perform in the second half of the season the way it has in the second half of games.

“Winning will always give you confidence, but at the same time you’ve got to always make sure you never get complacent,” safety Rahim Moore said. “Every week, the games get bigger and bigger. Last week was a big game for us and this week’s even better. We’re ready, we’re working hard and overall we’re focused.”

Well…the Broncos list is still shorter. How will Manning faire with his two top receivers being gimpy?

I know Cat – he throws it – catches it – fumbles it – recovers it – runs it – and scores it if’n he needs to in the 4th quarter!!!

DB, sorry I’ve been MIA… Rough few heartbreaking days. Honest.

In answer to your question, he will utilize Tamme, Dreessen and Green, plus McGahee and Hillman. Plus, I think jump roping has really helped his ability to jump over defenders and run for first downs. LOL

  6. tlcat06 says:

Oh, and don’t forget his most favorite receiver… Stokely. ;)

i remember last year around this time that every blog had at least 100 comments on everyone. hmmm wonder what happenend since then

  8. canadasbroncfan says:

got someone spying newton on sunday or is vondoom enough

  9. RH709 says:

Im shocked they haven’t developed some things with Hillman split out wide. put gim in motion and if a LB follows him, its on.

  10. tlcat06 says:

Canada! I HAVE NO IDEA where people are. I was MIA for awhile because I got myself a little “time out” ban and then things have been a bit crazy and yesterday sucked, royally. LOL

  11. tlcat06 says:

RH709… I think they’re being overly cautious with Hillman… just my opinion. BUT! Maybe they know what they’re doing!!

WOLFE VON DOOM YARD CHAMP ya’ll!

  13. canadasbroncfan says:

since there is nothing to talk about in football man this canadien sure misses hockey but they are talking

  14. tlcat06 says:

Any progress made at all with hockey?

  15. canadasbroncfan says:

they are talking but not to the media complaning about each other so that is a good sign but the nhlpa has donald ferh and he is a hard ass. canada needs their hockey what would happen if the nfl went strike for a year right now. The people would storm the white house

  16. tlcat06 says:

Truth. Last year it ALMOST happened. But honestly, after what’s happened since I think the lockout was a good thing. I just feel bad for Canada because it’s their football and it’s crazy. Isn’t this the second time in ten years this has happened?

  17. canadasbroncfan says:

yup and we just got our team back last year after 15 years. what bugs me is the are locked out so 160 players are playing in europe collecting a paycheck so thats why they always take so long to settle. another problem is they have teams in arizona, flordia, dallas that are bleeding money so the owners of thos teams are broke. need to contract 6 teams and its good, just like the nba should

  18. tlcat06 says:

How absolutely complicated. I did see some of the Avs guys tweeting about games in Europe. I miss it… brutally incredibly awesome sport.

  19. canadasbroncfan says:

Can’t believe amendment 64 actually passed.

Fox’s return to Carolina should be fun. I’ll bet he wants this one. And the sub plot of last seasons #1 & #2 draft picks. Should be a pretty good game…

  24. sndvl says:

From everything I’ve read, they expect to generate 5 million and up to 60 million in 5 years from tax revenue…

  25. SWBronco says:

Sndvl, from what I read as well I think the first 40 million is being used to improve schools in the state

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Man, that’s going to put yet a lot more people on food stamps, with all those munchies.

  27. Von_Dumervil says:

i think the denver D will prevent Carolina from scoring a TD on sunday, and Newton turns the ball over 4 times
