Final Score: Broncos 31, Bears 3

August 9th, 2012 - 9:54pm by Sam Davis

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos won their first preseason game by a score of 31-3.

Manning played for only the opening drive in the first quarter, and marched the offense down the field on 4-for-7 passing with 44 yards. But near the goal line, a pass to wide receiver Brandon Stokley was tipped and bounced off of Stokley into the hands of a Chicago Bear for an interception.

Lance Ball, Cornelius Ingram, Xavier Omon and Jason Hill each scored a touchdown in the Thursday night game at Soldier Field.

The Broncos outgained the Bears with 338 total yards to 132, as the defense allowed just eight first downs.

I think Gronk and Trev will be fine. No big injuries. I’m very impressed by OS and Weber.

Okay here are my notes from the games. Every preseason game I always take notes on what I see and I saw a lot of great stuff tonight to my surprise…

Offense- Offensive line protected Manning beautifully! He bought a lot of time in the pocket. You could tell he had some rust that he had where he threw to Tamme where he didn’t see the LB that should’ve been a pick that Tamme caught but the pick that he threw was Stokeleys fault I must say as it went off his hands. Decker and Tamme were two great targets for Manning along with Thomas’s catch that was called back due to a holding call…Too many holding penalties on offense. I believe I counted 6-7. Hanie was good when running the ball but not all that great at throwing..he definitely looked like the 4th string qb instead of the 2nd string. I see Os passing him for the back up spot before the regular season. McGahee looked great along with Moreno who showed some flashes and Omon looked really good even though I don’t see him making the team but he was very surprising. Jason Hill made some clutch catches and like always my boy Matt Willis showed why he deserves to make the team…very reliable receiver. Manning does need some more work but that is expected. He still looked great despite that throw to Tamme that was deflected that Tamme still came down with. Also Corneilus Ingram really turned some heads tonight. I hope he makes it and they cut Virgil Green which I see happening. I believe we keep 4 TE’s with Tamme, Dressen, Thomas, and Ingram.

Defense…man was I excited about this group. I don’t think I saw ANY missed tackles tonight…at least none that I remember. The WOLFE MAN got two sacks and another great tackle for a short gain on the quarterback. Miller got a fumble recovery and about took it to the house. Porter and Florence showed great physicality and tackling ability. Nate Irving was making play after play. Trevathan had a nice tackle for loss…the thing I noticed that I told my friend was that each time the bears would catch a pass we would be right there to tackle them hard and bring them down. Their yards after catch was miserable which is great!! Definitely looked like a new and improved defense!! Our linebacking corps looked great which surprised me. Even Mays was all over the field and looked to have better mobility than he did last year. I loved seeing Moore bring great physicality to the game as well that I noticed. Ayers had a nice sack. I believe all together we had around 6-8 sacks. Wolfe looks like we got a huge steal in the draft getting him in the 2nd round..

Special Teams…Was pretty disappointed to see Prater miss the 57 yarder but it is only preseason. I don’t believe he had any of his kicks returned tonight. Our returning game looked pretty good as we got our offense started in nice positions plenty of times. Prater boomed the ball all night and Colquitt also looked really good at pinning their offense deep back in their own territory. We did great containing Hester the one time we kicked to him.

I will be watching the game again tomorrow so I will touch on any other things that stick out that I see.

    Dear Seachickens,

Peyton Manning is playing the first quarter next week. Please shake in your boots because you don’t have a chance in h@ll of beating him.

    Totally not your fan,
    Tiffany
