How did Hackney get cut? Clifford Russell, we don’t even have a fifth receiver.
    Jordan Beck?

  2. orange crush 92 says:

i totally disagree with a lot of the cuts……hackney’s especially

  3. joshp says:

josh barrett got cut. come on this guys the next bob sanders. and hackney would be much better in the backup role than ramsey

  4. metsle says:

I am not supprised with most of the cuts. However I very suprised with Hackney, I was at the game and he played awsome. Its a shame we could not keep him as the back up

  5. vandal75 says:

Hackney probably should be around, but other than that I can’t complain.

  6. RodSmithRules says:

After what Hackney did last night, he should be the backup over Ramsey. But then again, this is not a team that needs 3 QBs. Some other team may pick him up now. In fact, Arizona probably should.

  7. letdamansmoke says:

How could they cut Hackney? The kid played a great game last night…I don’t even wanna think about Ramsey having to step in if something should happen to Cutler (knock on wood)

  8. musa47 says:

Why would shanny waive Hackney usually I don’t criticize what he does but this one is a headscratcher

  9. musa47 says:

Why would shanny waive Hackney. He played grrat last night and I agree with RodSmithRules Arizona should pick him up

  10. kyle2129 says:

No real surprises here Shanny said before the game it doesnt matter how Hackney does….and that Ramsey was stillthe back up I would of like to see barrett make the team though

  11. musa47 says:

    great my bad

  12. letdamansmoke says:

there’s still a chance he could be signed to the practice squad…but i don’t he’ll last the 24 hours after the way he played

  13. superchop7 says:

    Cutting Hackney ?? wow

  14. MOPH_broncofan says:

what?!?!?!?! hackney cut….. he played good verus arizona. with more practice hackney would have been a GREAT backup to Cultler.

what happened to Anthony Alridge? a foot injury? i fell asleep during the begining of the 3rd qt. and must have missed it. will he be OK? he ran pretty good verus arizona! i can not wait to see him on the field!

  15. stnicka says:

patrick Ramsey should have been cut he’s worthless and darrel hackney should be 2nd i also was surprised that josh barret was cut i thohgt with a little time to develop he was gonna be a good saftey

  16. metsle says:

I just hope Hackney gets picked up he played awsome against Arizona. It would be great if we could keep him on the practice squad and bring him in if we need him. The thing I was most impressed with Hakney was his decission making. He got rid of the ball when he needed to and ran when he needed to.

  17. BigSmoove says:

Hackney did a lot of his good playing against guys going home today too… I don’t even think he was close to being on the team… I do like Barrett, but he didn’t have that one big play or that one great game to put him over the top… And we are fine at receiver with Marshall, Stokley, Jackson, Colbert and the rookie…

  18. mikew007 says:

You had to know Hackney was getting cut….I don’t like it either but Shanahan will not carry him on the active roster over Ramsey. Hackney is a project and fun to watch but he is headed to the practice squad. Only surprise for me is Martinez/Russell….I expected one of them to make the roster.

  19. bestinthewest24 says:

    JOsh Barrett?!

  20. BigSmoove says:

True! But watch out if Eddie Royal starts to produce huge numbers at WR. They will probably bring back Martinez to handle the punts and kick offs. Shanahan will not want a starting receiver with those duties, even though Royal is deadly back there…

  21. superchop7 says:

Barrett will be on the practice squad (smart move)

Speaking of smart moves, Caulcrick is available. (Goal line RB beast)

  22. BigSmoove says:

Andre Hall will get all the goal line carries…

  23. TU_Hurricanedb says:

We still have to cut one more after Marshall comes back, I hope it’s Larsen, no reason we need 9 LB’s. With the DL we have EE, Clemons, or Engle who were left on one of them should have been gone.

One of the guys I think should be cut is Winborn. We have Green, Niko, DJ, Wood, Nate and Boss. We should have cut either Larsen or Winborn attempting to PS him to keep Hackney.

I like most of the cuts but I didn’t like seeing Hackney and Barrett gone.

  24. mikew007 says:

From musa47….”Why would shanny waive Hackney. He played grrat last night and I agree with RodSmithRules Arizona should pick him up”

Huh? Arizona has Warner and Lienert. What exactly would Arizona do with Hackney? Put him on their practice squad?

  25. JayCutler4MVP says:

agree with joshp barrett is gonna be sick if someone picks him up i’ll be pissed… other than that looks good… everything looks good except barrett and alridge on the IR??

  26. columbusOHbronco says:

hackney is a cheese burger away from playing on the line. not saying ramsey is the answer either. we should cut both and look for someone else.

  27. monz says:

hopefully barrett makes his way back onto the practice squad. i think with a year of development on the PS he could be a solid contributor for us in the future.

  28. Broncomania56 says:

Can’t wait for Monday Night (9/8/08). I can’t wait to see the Broncos Destroy the Raiders. I’m anxious to see all the new defensive schemes and hoping they put it all together. If our D-line is able to increase the pressure on the opposing QB, this could be the year we’ve been waiting for. I think there was a lot of confidence in coach Shannahan when he let Jason Elam go to Atlanta. He and the team knows something we don’t. There is going to be alot of offensive fire power this season. With Jay healthy again and some great new aditions this one is gonna be special. There is a new attitude this season and Jay is gonna have a break out year. We have not seen any real defensive schemes during the pre-season. The Broncos D has been just playing straight up, so until week 2 we won’t know how good they really are. I say week 2 because the Raiders are no where near the team the Chargers are. I for one can’t wait!!!!! Here we GOOOOOOO, it’s what we’ve all been waiting for. BroncAholics get ready to get your fix, cause as I am, I’m sure you all are suffering from major withdraws of Bronco Football. Super Bowl or Bust Baby. Here we go Broncos, Here we GO!.

  29. superchop7 says:

Andre Hall is “not” the answer inside the 10.

    F=MA

    Caulcrick is a beast.

As for Ramsey, it’s probably a situation where Cutler is more comfortable with him as the backup. (Fair enough)

    That being said….

Patrick really needs to work on his mechanics, he looked God awful out there.

  30. broncos20 says:

i’m dissapointed in the some of these cuts..especially Hackney and Barret!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why on earth would u cut Barret????..keeping barret and Beck and waiving Louis Green wouldve made sense(he’s had too many injuries)…

  31. b4life says:

I understand Hackney being cut he is unexpirenced never thrown a pass in the regular season but cutting one of your draft picks he is going to get picked up real fast he is good project wow what a bad decision. Larsen should have been cut he only played good the final game but Barrett was playing good on every play wow that one is a real head scratcher for me.

  32. DrAwkward says:

Why wouldn’t they cut Hackney? He played good in one preseason game! Even though Ramsey actually has game experience and is tall enough to see over the line, Hackney did good things in one game…..I’d love to see him against the Chargers Defense. Or the Steelers. We don’t need 3 QBs, because if Cutler goes down, I doubt we can win….

  33. imready says:

Hope Hackney survives wavers and ends up on the practice squad, you have to love the way he plays. I wonder who might get picked up off waivers, Ashley Lielie? Think he might humbled by now? It will be fun to see where we might try to upgrade. Amazing how many rookies survived. Suprised a little that M

  34. imready says:

I hate typing on my laptop in the dark. As I was about to say, I was a little suprised they didn’t keep Martinez.

  35. imready says:

    Suprised that artinez got cut.

  36. dave888259 says:

Sucks about hackney. But the Barrett cut just kills me. I really, really hope he clears waivers to the PS. I’m all about that guy.

  37. Gami3it says:

Crazy stuff, thats all i gotta say.

  38. Gami3it says:

    Oh yea…my problems with it…

Hackney has proving himself to me more than ramsey when it comes to passing, scrambling and decision making. Ramsey has more regular season game expirience but he is still not where he should be.

I’m a fan of Glenn Martinez (at KR and WR) and Josh Barret is a well worth it project. Manuel and Mcree aint old but aint exactly young. Hamza and barret would been good back ups to develop.

Anyway, who ever makes the team, I shall cheer for em…GO BRONCOS!!!

PS: would be nice if we could get Lelie…He honestly had his best years in Denver. ATL and 49ers aint have real quaterbacks. Cutler and lelie could be dangerous together.

  39. piratehb30 says:

Im pretty upset about hackney getting cut, he had a great game last night. Id like to ramsey have a game like that. (that will never happen)

  40. 77crush says:

hackney, russell and barrett will be back. is beck eligible for practice squad? if so, he will be back too.

lelie… gimme a break. i’d take c greg eslinger back before him.

    who is caulrick?

  41. 77crush says:

p.s. i’d take brian clark back before lelie. is he still with tb?

  42. 77crush says:

imready, why don’t you turn on the lights?

not surprised about martinez, he never developed past a bubble player.

  43. 77crush says:

broncomania56, i’m as excited as you for the regular season to begin!

d-line is underachieving, vanilla or not. broncos need some pressure from the front 4.

i still like the potential of crowder and thomas; not so sure about moss, but i’m patient enough to see what he does in ’08 before calling him a bust. time for moss to step up, he’s a #1 pick.

  44. Pratama says:

What implications does being on injured/reserve have? Are Sapp and Alridge still on the team? I didnt think they were injured so is this a roster move to keep them rather than waive them? Also, who do you think will get cut when BMarsh returns?

  45. Pratama says:

I agree that it is a bummer about Hackney. I really like the guy, maybe he will get picked up on waivers for another team (hope not). Hopefully he will be on the practice squad. I think that he still needs a lot of time to develop. He is definately a gamer, with great attitude but he struggled quite a bit with the drop back, classic quarterback passing game. Most of the plays he made were with his feet – and that only lasts so long. It also can be tough to build an offense around that. So, hopefully with time he will be able to do both – pocket passer/scrambler.

  46. baileythebronco says:

tony the tiger is gonna be the 5th wide out too for the raiders game im glad brandon is only out one game. thats too bad about glen martinez though we need to keep him around

  47. broncoAI says:

I think hack is better than ramsey, WaY better. I hope we pick up ashley lelie cuz he was a good deep threat when he was in denver. and of course GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  48. imready says:

77Crush,, I’m too lazy to get out of the chair and turn the light on and my laptop is doing some weird stuff even when I can see what I’m doing.
I thought they would keep 6 receivers and thought the Bronco staff was high on Martinez. I’m still unhappy about losing Hixon last year and somehow Martinez survived through the season.
I always thought A. Lielie was a good 3rd receiver and streched the defense when he was on the field. He made some big plays for the Broncos, he just never was as good as he thought he was. You are probably right that we are better off without a guy like that.
Anyone besides me wondering about some of the players that didn’t have a great camp that are still on the squad? Wonder if that will change in the next 24hrs, there are some pretty good players up for grabs.

  49. cbracken2 says:

Honostly Shanny, why isnt Hackney the backup? Patrick Ramsey is a little bit washed up and sucks in a starting role (does Shaun Rogers interception ring a bell?). Hackney has less acuracy but can move the offense a lot better that Ramsey can. His mobility and arm strength is enough for any team to be scared of and HE ACTUALLY FITS THE OFFENSE!!

Also as a question, anyone think we should cut Carl Paymah and pick up Deltha O’Neal. I know he wasnt happy in Cincy but i think he is a definite upgrade to the DBs and he played well in Denver. I think we should also consider the ex-Titan Roydel Williams. He started a few times last year and would probably be an upgrade over Keary Colbert at #5 WR.

  50. 77crush says:

imready, i agree about hixon. from reading some of his comments, it seemed like cutler was really looking forward to playing with him. brian clark performed well last year in the preseason as well. i was really surprised the broncos let both of them go based on their inability to get the job done returning kicks; they were both showing flashes as receivers, particularly clark.

lelie did stretch the field when he was in denver, but i don’t see him coming back after such an acrimonious departure. he’s a “me” guy, and the broncos are trying to build around “we” guys. maybe he’s digested enough humble pie since he left…

anyway, i like the guys they have now, even colbert, who is probably one of the guys you were referring to as not having a strong preseason (except against the cards, when he kicked butt). i liked colbert coming out of college, and i hope he develops into the type of player shanahan envisions.
