Cut Englestiff #60 and go get Jerome McDougal the number one pick from
Eagles who got cut and had three (3) sacks in the preseason. Hackney is the man and Ramsey is another stiff. Hamza still is horrible in space and Barrett has more upside. I said if Englestiff made the team we were in trouble and I am looking at a 8-8 season.
The offense must carry the load.
GO BRONCOS.
Go pick up Rodney Hannah from the Cowgirls #44 TE from Dallas had four receptions against the Broncos in the preseason. He’s 6-7 and looked very fluid and quick.
With Aldrige and Sapp on IR it leaves the Broncos running back situation in a bit of a mess. We have Young and Hill with minimal experience and Pittman as the featured back. None of them can carry the full load. An injury to any one of them and we’re hurting. The Blocking back situation is even worse, we have Hillis, a rookie with great potential but miminal game experience and Pittman who’s neither an agile running back nor a blocking force to be feared. Hopefully, Torians recovery will come before any of the RBs go done. I can see Aldrige being placed on IR with this phantom injury because the Broncos knew there was no way he’d clear waivers, but Sapp being put on IR in a major concern. I’m surprised that Nalen wasn’t put on either PUP or retired injured. Hopeully the extra time off will let him heal enough that he can play a series or two every game.
It’s sad to see Hackney go, but otherwise I do agree with these decisions. We need to develop Barrett on the practice squad and Glenn Martinez will return, I imagine. Eddie Royal will be more of a receiver so we’ll need Glenn to be an adept kick returner. Now it’s time to shell the Raiders a week from Labor Day!
how come scheffler(spelling) aint on the depth chart?
So… is the reserve/injured list the same thing as injured reserve? If so, that’s pretty weak to put Sapp and Alridge out of reach for the entire season. I’m sure the intent is to get Barrett, Russell and Hackney on the PS. Maybe Beck, too, don’t know much about him. Maybe Martinez too, if there’s a spot left after Shanahan grabs the castoffs he likes from other teams. Is it accurate that the waiver period is only a day, which would allow us to start signing them to the PS in like 14 hours? Here’s hoping that Torain’s recovery stays as far ahead of schedule as it seems to be, and that he’s able to come in as an impact player… Because the RB position is certainly a cause for nervousness.
HACKNEY OVER RAMSEY!?!?!?!?!? YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME SHANAHAN. I like Mike, but this is one move I highly disagree with. WHAT HAS RAMSEY DONE?!?! HE SUCKED WITH THE REDSKINS, HE”S SUCKED WITH US!!!!!!! BAD DECISION. I understand Glenn Martinez was probably the last cut but when Woodyard looks so good, I get that one, but HACKNEY!!!!!! Please………..
Picking Ramsey over Hackney was seriously a mercy pick. Shanny likes Ramsey and made this decision with his heart and not his head. Ramsey seriously sucks and if Cutler goes down we have 0 chance in $%ll of winning.
The 2008 Broncos remind me alot of the 2006 Packers. A very talented , but very young team that has minimal playing time together. Only 1 dratf choice was cut and he’s headed for PS. Three undrafted free agents on the 53 man squad. This means that they will be very insonsistant this year and an 8-8 record should be considered a good year. 2009 will have them a team to very concerned about facing. 2010 will see them one of, if not the best, NFL teams.
Look at the starting lineups and it gets exciting.

Like everyone else, I just don’t see that Ramsey is any sort of answer to backup QB. All the years he’s played and he still doesn’t know how to look off his receiver.
While time will only tell if Prater is the next Jason Elam, his ability to kick off deep into the end zone has freed up a spot on the roster to have needed depth elsewhere.
I’m still real shakey about Kern. His college propensity of having punts blocked bothers me especially since he had one blocked in pre-season.
How are so many people surprised at Hackney getting cut? Everyone knew. Hackney even knew that the cards game was his audition for a spot on another team. He’s not the right fit for a backup qb. I’m not saying ramsey fills me with confidence, but you don’t look for flashes of brilliance in a backup, just someone who can reliably more or less carry the team maybe a game or two just in case its needed. Mike doesn’t care about how entertained everyone is by a backup quarterback. He just chose oatmeal over lucky charms. Maybe he just wants zero chance of a qb controversy! =P
One thing everyone seems to forget is that Hackney was playing against 3rd string players for the most part. Almost every player cut by Arizona started that game. Ramsey has played against the ones at times this preseason. How would Hackney look against the other teams ones? Not very good.
WR depth is better this year than it has been for years, but I think Martinez should have been kept. He has been a very serviceable WR…and has been able to help with Special teams and returns…
I want to know how soon we can start to put our Practice squad together? Does anyone know? Too soon, isnt soon enough for me.
BRING BACK JOSH BARRETT!
BRING IN SOME TALENTED PLAYERS FROM THE WAIVER WIRE TO FILL SOME OBVIOUS HOLES:
1. RB
2. WR
3. QB
I just want to see us sign Dre Moore or Derek Lokey as they were cut from the Bucks and Chiefs respectively. Talk about a good chance of picking up some young promising DT prospects.
I’d get rid of Clemons for one of these guys in a heartbeat.
Too bad about Martinez. He really helped the Team last year. Is DB Jack Williams going to return punts for us now?
cutting barret is a shock to me, he has performed well in the preseason. hope he makes practice squad. all other cuts make sense, i would rather have hacket than ramsey as backup but ramsey has the experiance hackett lacks. hackett just has not played against any quality players. Glad we dumped martinez, he was never effective and he never took it to the next level.
Just read Travis Henry was suspended for 1 year. Freakin loser
First of all, bummer about Alridge and Sapp. Alridge was going to ba an awsome change -of-pace back–obviously not durable enough to be anywhere near an every down back though. I was looking forward to having the pace of the two slashing speedsters (Young and Hall) changed up with the even speedier slasher. O-well.
At least with Sapp injured, it made the decision about Hillis and Pittman for us.
I’m a little sad to see Martinez gone. I liked his story. Practice squad?
Hackney was fun to watch on Friday, but Alridge set the offensive tone and was the player of the game. That speaks for itself, when the third/fourth-string back is more of an impact player than you are. I wish Hack all the best, and hope Cutler don’t get hurt.
Go Broncos!!!
Oh, and I bet Sam Paulescu has a job before the season starts.
why wld you cut jsh barrett and cecil sapp and hackney thats stupid it pisses me off you dnt cut your draft pick why draft him if your going to cut him
BigManDan:
Although the point is moot. Arizona played their firat string defense into the third quarter.
b-smooth: Not very smooth of you. Sapp wasn’t cut, he was put on IR.
Why draft somebody if you’re going to cut him? Players are drafted for their potential as it’s impossible to predetermine their actual ability. Obviuosly, the vast majority of the 250ish players drafted each year don’t cut the mustard. If evaluating players were an exact science, Rod Smith would have been a 1st rounder not an undrafted free agent. Drafting is a guessing game that hitting it right 50% of the time is way above average. The Broncos hit on all but one and he’s on the practice squad. I bet there’s a lot of teams out there envious of the home run the Broncos hit in this years draft.
Feel kinda bad that Martinez got cut. Hackney was good but I guess Ramsey’s little experienced helped him. We got Barret on the practice squad so that’s good. I thought that they should have cut either Green Or winborn. Larsen and Woodyard showed potential and should add depth to the linebackers. My guess is that Jack W will be returning kicks if Royal produces good numbers at WR.
Hackney was cut so he could be placed on the practice squad. He is still with the team, but just not on the active roster.
