The Broncos on Monday released running back Justin Fargas and designated cornerback Tony Carter as waived/injured.
Fargas signed with the team as a free agent on Aug. 11, and in two preseason games he tallied 10 carries for 17 yards.
The USC product spent the first seven seasons of his career in Oakland, where he amassed 3,369 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns. In 2007 he carried the ball 222 times for 1,009 yards and four scores.
Last year, Carter signed as a college free agent on Apr. 27. He became one of three college free agents to spend time on the active roster, making his debut against Oakland on Dec. 20 and registering one solo tackle, one pass breakup, one special-teams stop and one fumble recovery in that contest.
Carter notched his first career start the next week against Philadelphia and he had one special-teams tackle in the game. He spent the first 14 weeks of the 2009 season on the practice squad.
At Florida State Carter started the last 33 games of a collegiate career in which he appeared in all 50 contests. As a senior in 2008 he garnered second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors.

Boy ,did I just call that one about Fargas in the last blog or what!
The less ex-Raiders the better, haha.
And too bad for Carter, will he be another casualty loss like Barrett placed on the waived/injured list? Doubt it.
oh boy! it has begun. good luck to those two
Guess McD thinks Carter has less potential than Alphonso!?!
Waived/injured, there is something physically wrong with him, just like Barrett, big difference, Fargas was cut Carter was not, at least from the info given here.
well no surprise there with how little fargas played its no shocker!
i was hoping to see fargas do to our oppenents what he did to us. he always played well against us. i thought he ran the ball hard between the tackles.
Fargas had most of the calls last week and didn’t play at all yesterday that I can remember, and no one talked about that, but I noticed it and brought it up is all, because I always try thinking outside of the box since when you follow media or bloggers too closely it’s like navigating with your blind folds on, and missing out on the little things. I think it was pretty cool I noticed it before the fact, even so if after the fact it came as no shocker to you, are you mad you didn’t think of it earlier yourself? LOL/jk.
Bummer fargasfan, time for a new handle, haha.
i agree
We all saw this coming. He has barely gotten any snaps in preseason. Just the odd man out. White did well, colorado native, even gave us a mile high salute. Ball broke some big runs but cant catch worth anything.
We go into the season with 4 RBs. Moreno, Buckhalter, White (4game suspension) and Ball. Ball is only around because white wont be for the first 4 games. He needs to stay after practice and work on catching passes. ALOT. Catch some from Tebow, I hear he stays after practice all the time lol
I wanted to give Quinn the benefit of the doubt. But he looked terrible last night. I called out him getting sacked on his first play. He will be cut
Speaking of cuts, I have a good idea of who will get cut.
Phonzy
Riar the TE (forgot his last name)
Olsen
Kirlew
Stokely
Hall
Arnett
Davis
Overbay
Sperry
Duncan
Garland
Marcus Thomas
Johnny Williams
McCarthy
And shocker……bucky. (who knows)
Florio, are we at 73 now with Fargas and Carter out, 20 cuts to go?
Yeah, I answered my own question, we are at 73, so we are beating tomorrow’s deadline of 75 by 2.
I doubt phonzie gets cut. Whether u like it or not, no coach pisses away a first round pick (pardon my french). Jarvis was the biggest of all bust YET he always stayed a bronco. And now he might be emerging. Phonzie wont be cut. He still has time to emerge. Only his second year. But i doubt he does.
But I agree with the rest of the list. Minus Sperry. We just got him. but who knows maybe he is not cutting it.
just some u forgot.
britt davis
kevin alexander
jeff stahle
theres always the practice squad for alot of people. Man we need to find a way to steal Josh Barrett back
we still have too many rbs as well, does ball or white get cut
also i dont see a reason for us to hold on to brady, like him and his work ethic, however his play is just not meeting the standard, one could argue look at who was around him but still, if he doesn’t show something this week then i think he’s going to get cut
quinn will not get cut, I think the Broncos need to carry 3 qbs
So, you are 5 short in your list, my list:
On Offense keep 2 QB, cut Quinn
5 RB including Larsen, cut Hall
9 OL, cut Duncan, Seth Olsen
3 TE, cut Geer, Overbay, Sperry
6 WR, cut Arnett, Davis, Stokley
On Defense keep 7 DL, cut Garland, Smith, Stehle
9 LB, cut Alexander, Kirlew, J. Williams, W. Williams
4 S, cut Mc Carthy
5 CB, cut Phonzy
Keep 3 specialists, LS, P, K.
I believe that’s a 53 man roster with the 20 cuts required, if McD is set in keeping Quinn, he can release Bucky. Anyone wants to play monopoly now? LOL.
maybe so but as of right now he’s the highest paid third strong qb in the nfl, maybe the practice squad, not sure how all of that works for final rosters spots
baylinocrush, i agree, like i mentioned before how many can be placed on the practice squad, is that the remaining of the 53 after the 45
i still think we need to keep alphonso though, give him at least another year to develop
irish, practice squad players is on top of the 53 player roster, here are the rules as to how many:
According to NFL Practice Squad rules, each team is allowed to keep up to eight players on their scout team at any given time. In addition, the National Football League may allow teams to keep a ninth player on the squad, provided they live outside of the United States.
I didn’t count. That was just off the Top of my head.
smith is not going anywhere
All those players drafed last year are not going anywhere (Alphonso Smith, Richard Quinn etc.) These are McD’s guys and they definitely deserve to be given another year to develop. We will definitely keep all three QBs, thats a given. Here is my closest take
RB – Moreno, Bucky, Lendale (even though he is suspended the first 4 games), Larsen will stay cuz he is a multiple threat and good on special teams. And maybe Hall makes it…..big maybe
WR – Royal, Thomas, Gaffney, Lloyd, Stokely (because he is so good on third downs in the slot), and Decker. I don’ think Willis makes it but hopefully we keep him on the PS.
TE – Graham, Quinn, Branson
OL – Clady, Beadles, Hochstein, Seth Olsen, Walton, Eric Olsen, Kuper, Harris, and maybe Daniels and Batiste.
DL – McBean, Bannon, Green, Smith, Thomas, Williams, Fields, and maybe Baker.
LB – Doom might be on the PUP list I’m thinking so minus him for right now it should be….Moss, Williams, Haggan, Ayers, Woodyard, Mays, Hunter, and either Atkins or Kirlew.
CB – Bailey, Goodman, Jones, Smith, Cox, Thompson
S – Dawkins, McBath, Hill, Bruton
just a thought… when i see Brandon Stokley why so? He’s excellent in the slot.
any thoughts on Syd’Quan Thompson?
He’s raw
Brady Quinn didn’t look too good last week, but I’d say keep him around, give him another year and see what develops.. remember, he did come from the Browns..
yea u r
My list of cuts is not what I think McD will do, it’s what I hope he would do, just clarifying.
As far as Stokley is concerned, it’s easy to see why I think it’s time for him to move on, he plays a very physical demanding position in the slot, Royal is doing great there, and Stokley has not been able to remain healthy for 2 years now, it all adds up to he is no longer an asset but is becoming a liability taking up a spot a talented WR like Willis could use. And if we weren’t in dire need of a RB until the 5th week when White can play, I would put Bucky exactly in the same boat.
Syd’Quan is one of the ones with Mays and Willis we cannot afford to let go, no matter what the reason would be.
Yeah I think Syd’Quan Thompson should be kept on board. At least for his return abilities. He is the only guy that has shown anything besides Royal
C2, you forgot the main return man, Cox.
