Family, Friends and Thanksgiving

November 24th, 2011 - 2:14pm by Kenny Legan

With the Thanksgiving holiday Thursday, the Denver Broncos still had practice as they gear up for Sunday’s game against San Diego. However, they were given most of the afternoon off to enjoy the day with family and friends.

Linebacker Von Miller said his younger brother — who is finishing up his last year of culinary school — is in town from Dallas. With his brother’s cooking skills, Miller said he is leaving the feast up to him.

“He’s going to cook a little something for me,” Miller said. “I’m (also) going to be with (linebacker Wesley) Woodyard. I’m going to go wherever he goes.”

Woodyard said he doesn’t have anything elaborate planned. He just wants to sit down with the people that are close to him and enjoy the holiday.

“I’m going to go eat with a couple friends,” Woodyard said. “We’re going to get together, give thanks and enjoy family and friends. That’s what Thanksgiving is all about.”

Since the Broncos don’t have any full days off for the holiday and leave for San Diego Saturday, it makes it hard for players’ families to come in and spend time with them.

So, Wide Receivers Coach Tyke Toblert is hosting some players and their friends over at his house.

“Coach Tolbert’s having some guys over,” Decker said. “I got my lady friend and her sister are going to tag along with me and just enjoy a good home-cooked meal.”

Quarterback Tim Tebow said that his family and relatives are all gathering elsewhere. But with the season in full-swing, that’s how he envisioned it.

“That’s how I wanted it, just to stay focused and try to work on San Diego,” Tebow said. “I have my two brothers here, so we’ll have a turkey or something and hang out. We’ll be thankful, but we’ll celebrate as a family later.”

Man, that injury report on the Chargers makes you take a double look on the score prediction, that’s for sure.

Happy Thanksgiving all hope it was good. We will be eating turkey foe days since I made a 16 pounder and only 3 people to feed LOL. Glad most of the players will be with family and friends. I can’t wait until Sunday. Bay, no biggie about Tebow not being captain. McGahee deserves it and is probably teaching all those young players how its done.

  3. shaztah says:

Greenbay took care of the Lions (sorry Dad) and Miami is hanging in there LOL, Glad we already beat them.

  4. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Hey guys just wanted to wish you all Happy Thanksgiving! I’m here in Missouri with the family and we have two Turkeys. The traditional baked one my mom always makes and a deep fried one! Gonna be awesome! I am very thankful for this blog. Hope you all have a safe holiday and let’s all get fat! Peace!

  5. shaztah says:

You have a point Bay that is a lot of injuries. Did you see Suh get ejected from the game?

  6. baylinorcrush says:

No we ate early, didn’t see the first game at all, but heard about Suh, that he might face a suspension.

TRB is thankful for Brandon Marshall playing on Thanksgiving for sure, haha.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of Broncos Country!!!

Interesting day of football today. Green Bay? Wow! No Super bowl hangover for those guys. I’m a Bronco fan to the bone and have been for 26 years, but, I will have to give those guys credit for being so resilient. If Suh was in for the rest of the game he may have made some impact but from my prospective he has no business playing this game. Talented- yes! But he proved today to most that he is a dirty player. Trying to stomp on a player and then lying to the media about it saying that he lost his balance is crap. Anyone that saw that on national TV would agree. I was intrigued at first when he was drafted, now I truly think he’s a DB (Not relating to ‘defensive back’).

Miami looks hungry but they still suck.

    Go Broncos!!

Man I am now a smoked turkey fan. I refused to even try one cuz baked was so good all these years I didn’t wanna risk not liking it. But i did today and smoked is great! My picks so far have bombed so C’MON San Fran keep me from goin 0-3. Hope y’all r stuffed as me and GO BRONCOS!!!

  12. Louisianabroncofan says:

Ya cam I saw his press conference where he said he lost his balance and I laughed my a&$ off. Pathetic. What a punk. Pretty talented punk, but a punk.

I can’t wait for that midnight Turkey sandwich…
For those of you who are taking advantage of the sales that begin in a few hours…stay safe. Try not to stomp on anybody. It’s bush league….lmao.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

Ummm… it really looks like Von may have his first 3 sack game of his career… SD may be signing OL’s off the street according to some reports and that is great/horrible news depending on who’s team you root for!!! ;o)

    VON TEBOW…

From John 7: ’98-’99: For thy Lord sayith to his 7th deciple John Elwayianth. I will send you the savior, thee Timothy, and he shall begin to takeith the Fox to pasture and feed him well on thee day of thanks. He will take the white Broncos and spread thy word of triumph. For Goodman always will conquer, and charged Rivers will be Doomed by a plague of Millers. Thee Gates will fall under Dawkness. And we all said thank you to thee Timothy. Amen.

  19. DBFanFromAzViaMD says:

Good to hear you came over to the smoked side LBF.One of the best ways to do a turkey as far as I’m concerned.Got a late start today and I’m just sittin’ down to dinner.Smoked my bird for close to 10 hours.

    0-3 on today’s predictions.

Enjoyed a great thanksgiving family day and enjoyed the football as well.

I knew the Packer game was a stretch and I was just hoping that their streak would end – no surprise there.

The Miami game could have fallen either way and MIA played well. Dallas pulling it out in the last seconds was appropriate though again slightly disappointing.

The game I knew I had right and would be an easy win was the niner game. Wow! I’m surprised. Total domination by the Ravens.
Von Miller I hereby present Suggs as the player to emulate. Forget Suh – what a jerk! He could be ejected for life and I would consider it fair. 9 sacks? I thought the 7 sacks on Tebow was incredible. I for one, am in favor of a 9 sack game on Rivers.

  21. daddybronc says:

Broncos D – not getting a lot of love from the talking heads. With the Chargers being injured – what gives?

Actually – I’m real good with everyone picking against the Broncos. Tebow plays better that way!

I still thought with 3 consecutive wins they’d start to get tired of betting against the Tebow led Broncs. Go figur!!!

  22. daddybronc says:

I really want to see the interview between Sharpe and Tebow. Anybody know where it can be seen?

  23. alexanserg says:

The only problem I have with Miller being so spectacular is it detracts from the awesomeness that is DOOM.

Everyone is talking about our pass rush saying Miller miller miller. They aren’t exactly wrong but they are leaving something out.

DOOM. Fact is they can’t double team both, so pick your poison. Each makes it easier than the other. But miller is a little faster, so he sucks up most of the sacks like a Hoover.

But let’s not forget the DOOMinator. He has been doing it year in, year out for his entire career, and he is just about as well rounded a player as a guy like Champ.

Fact is, Doom has been increasingly clutch all over the field. He is great vs the run, he is great as a pass rusher, and he isn’t even a liability in coverage.

Sure, it’s miller time. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t enough time to show DOOM the love as well.

While I am at it, let’s here it for Ayers as the most improved player. Just shows what an idjit McD was. Draft a solid DE, and proceed to employ him as a sub bar OLB. Ayers absolutely belongs at DE, and he is showing up big time this season imo.

Also, Bunkley. That gaffney trade worked out great.

  24. alexanserg says:

    Easier for the other*

  25. alexanserg says:

Oh Yeah absolutely. Miller is humble, and all he does is deflect credit. Great guy.

My message wasn’t directed to Miller. I am sure he would agree with me and say the same thing. Heck, he HAS said the same thing.

No, my message was directed towards the fans.

  26. alexanserg says:

Specifically this Von Tebow nickname that has developed … it’s ridiculous, and frankly a little disrespectful.

It’s Von DOOOM. Get it right or pay the price. heh

  27. Bronco_Turtle says:

    VON TEBOW FOOTBALL!!!

Learn to love it Alex!!! ;o) I thought we got Jarmon in the Gaff trade and Bunk came out of Philly if I’m not mistaken… maybe it was a 3 way deal, I don’t really remember the specifics!

  28. WieminCA says:

Wow – The Raven’s defense really made a statement … their pass rush was relentless … they sure set the bar high …

As an aside – there’s a guy in our softball league who’s out of work and is “over-qualified” and can’t find work and hardly has money for gas for his truck – we took up a collection and got $500 for him for Thanksgiving … I can’t tell you how great is the satisfaction of doing that, and knowing someone in need will have a better holiday because of his buddies on all the teams … and this is a guy that’s not all that liked around the league – but all that gets put aside when it comes down to the nitty-gritty …

Anyway, I trust all Bronco fans had a wonderful Thanksgiving … actually, for most of you on this blog, Thanksgiving came about 6 weeks ago …

  29. sirobertvondoom says:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING BRONCOS COUNTRY! God is good!

Defense has been playing great all around! have absolutely loved it!

Tebow is the man, can’t get in a rhythm throwing 8 times in a game. The man threw great last year when they let him wing it a little bit, he can do it. Open it up for him and the sky is the limit!

  30. Bronco_Turtle says:

Agreed Wiem! Tebow getting to play was like Thanksgiving and Christmas all at once!!!

That was a really nice thing you and your friends did… Can’t say that I hear about these types of things often enough so Kudo’s…

  31. alexanserg says:

But that doesn’t even make sense. Von Doom are a duo. They are on the field at the same time and have more or less the same function. They routinely rendezvous at the QB.

Come up with a new nickname for the Tebow-McGahee tandem. My tentative suggesting is tee-gay-hoe. (man that is terrible lol). McTebow just sounds irish.

    Um, maybe, frakcladaltobeadheebowecker?

    :o ) Haha…

I like VON TEBOW! Our Two youngest SuperStars that a real great team can be built around!!!

It’s an Era… the VON TEBOW FOOTBALL ERA!!!

No disrespect to Doom, or Dawk or Champ… I love all these guys… VON TEBOW is just more fun to say…

  35. alexanserg says:

Well, to each his own I suppose. I still like Von Doom. The evil genius that haunts NFL QBs’ nightmares.

  36. Bronco_Turtle says:

Hehe… yes… Phylis gets fully Millered this weekend!!!

I also have a degree in Law… Legal Studies/Justice Studies from Chardon State in ’04…

How many sacks do you think Von and Doom end up with this week just between the two of them?

  37. canadasbroncfan says:
