Renaldo Hill spoke with the media after practice today, and he talked a little about how the team is coming together already this offseason.
It’s a tough undertaking to step into a locker room filled with a lot of new names, but everyone is bonding and getting to know one another quickly.
“That’s big about the offseason, because we’re pretty much around each other all day every day,” he said. “It gives us a chance to get to know one another. You might not get the names in the first couple weeks, but eventually you get around to knowing everyone and knowing everyone’s personality. That’s the good part about it — knowing who you’re going to be around helps you that much more on the football field.”
And Hill knows who he’s going to be around in the defensive secondary — former teammate and playmaker Andre’ Goodman, future Hall-of-Famers Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins and three 2009 NFL Draft picks, among others. The hope is that going into this year that unit can create more plays to help the team win games.
Hill said there are several things to focus on this offseason to make sure the secondary is successful come the season.
“Not making mistakes, being sound, being accountable to one another, minimizing gains and not giving up deep balls — that’s a huge thing that we’re focusing on this year,” he said.
Last season with the Dolphins, Hill said from what he saw in the film room, the 2008 Denver secondary didn’t play up to its full potential.
“Secondary-wise, I was just hearing that it wasn’t a good year,” he recalled. “A lot of injuries. A lot of deep balls going over their heads. That’s just the perecption I heard, I don’t know as far as what the guys were saying on the team. But coming in, that was the scouting report we had.”
But now that he’s part of the team, he sees what the unit is capable of. In fact, he said he believes the mix of veteran leadership and youth will combine to create great success. More specifically, he said the Broncos secondary should be No. 1 unit in the league in 2009.
“It’s our expectation,” he said. “We’ve all played a lot of football in this league. There’s a lot of talent back there, so we’re not expecting anything less. Our goal is to be the top secondary in the league.”
“If we’re not considering ourselves to be the top, we’re selling ourselves short.”

At least by looking at mine, you can see what doesn’t work. Nuggets blew this game. Oh welll, back to Denver for some revenge.
No Doc, : and a ? gives you
None of mine worked, but heres yours :a

I meant : ? is
AHAHA…. I come on to see what was the latest that the Denver Bronco fans have had to say about things… and everyone is trying to figure out how to make faces haha… I laughed…
Good stuff, good stuff…
Screw the Lakers. At least in the NFL, no controversy exists about the games being allegedly fixed. In my opinion, they’re not but the league does nothing to disspell the notions that they are fixed. Now, back to good things. I love Renaldo’s attitude. I think the Broncos’ defense is going to be among the more surprising units in the league this season, “surprising” that is to the no-knowledge analysts on ESPN.
Guys, stop crying over your nuggets. Its not the refs it more like a lack of leadership. Maybe next year. Go Lakers and go Broncos!!!!!
Exactly West Coast!! Why blame it on the refs when there were missed calls both ways? Is it because the McNuggets lost?? lol
*<):^)
Sorry, I am a Bronco fan, BUT IM A HUGE LAKER FAN! I gotta say though Denver has really surprised me. If they dont be the LAkers in this series i will root for them next year along with my Lakers. But Back to Broncos. Love what Hill said. Shows you his leadership and how he wants to win. We need more guys like that. GO BRONCOS!
Who cares about basketball this is a football website? If you want a basketball website go to nuggets.com or fakers.com. This is a bronco website people… I am from Los Angeles originally and Kobe is great… we get it… but true laker fans loved Shaq and I sort of hope Kobe never gets one without him. He he. Back to football.
I honestly believe the Broncos will go 9-7 this year, maybe better. I Think that with the additions on Defense, including Mike Nolan, our team will be able to be a contender. ONLY IF, Orton gets the spot. I say this because Orton has much more experience than Simms or the new draftie. Our Weapons on Offense are so talented, that i think we even outmatch that of the patriots and any other team in the NFL. I know that sounds a bit egotistic to say that about our team, but looks at B. Marsh, J. Gaffney, T. Sheff, Edd Roayl, Knowshawn, Hillis, Grahm, Etc… Our team was a competitor last year, but our defense is the thing that killed us. Do i see us making the superbowl this yea, no. It is possible, but very unlikely. Orton is a leader though, and he will fit strongly into this new system, and be carefull the Broncos will be beasts from here on out….Look at last year, no one gave us a chance against any team like the Jets, cowboys, Falcons, and we surprised them all.
BTW For all who think that Farve didnt do good with the Jets you all are crazy >.>
Any ways! I cant wait till this season to start! And i kind of expected us to get rid of JJ… I dont know why, but i had that feeling all along.
GO Broncos and McNuggets!
Year*** Sorry >.>
making a mountain out of a Renaldo Hill…To be saying something like that this early is like saying we will make the play-offs…!st year new coach ,lost a great QB ,totally new team…Not a wise statement imo
HAHAHAHA emoticons is what is has come to lol
Half smile with a wink = ; + )
Smile = : + )
Frown = : + (
Theres a heap of others but Im not 100%
Samoanbronco, yeah, see what you started? Ha, ha.
The king is back! Been gone for awhile. Can someone tell me what happened to Jay? Why he not on the team? lol just kidding. I see they cut JJ. Torain might just make it.
Champ is still the best CB in the NFL. Dawkins adds leadership and is one of the best safeties in the league. I personally think Alphonso Smith will step in and do a fine job. Who is the frontrunner for the SS spot? If we can stop the run and pressure the QB a little better than I can’t see why we wouldn’t be in the top 5.
