Elway to be Featured on Super Bowl Pregame Show

February 1st, 2013 - 7:49am by Stuart Zaas

Phil Simms and Jim Nantz will unveil Simms’ All-Iron team during CBS’ Super Bowl pregame show and will feature Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway.

The show will air from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. MST on CBS.

Hosted from New Orleans, home of Super Bowl XLVII, this year’s All-Iron Team highlights the greatest moments, stories and performances in Super Bowl history and the players that make up those moments. Simms counts down many of his favorite moments, including the top catches, blunders, gambles and runs in the history of the biggest game in sports.

He also delves deep into the history of the game, and tells the little known stories of the top assistant coaches, most unlikely heroes, players who should have been MVP, and the best teams never to win the Lombardi Trophy. Some of these great stories are told by the players and coaches themselves including Elway, Bill Belichick and Sean Payton.

In addition, an unprecedented reunion for the first time ever of Leon Lett and Don Beebe, who shared in one of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl lore, will all be featured.

I bet it will be “the helecoptor” play they talk about. That momment will always be etched in my mind. I remember it vividly and just knowing we had the game after that play. I suppose it could also be the “this ones for John” comment.

  2. 3rdGeneration says:

PS: How are we not playing in THIS game!? I’m still not over it.

  3. RH709 says:

We should be in this game 3rdGen.

The only real answer is…sometimes the improbable happens.

  4. RH709 says:

In my opinion the Niners have this game.

I don’t see the Ravens having the talent or discipline to stop the pistol option plays or anyone who can cover Vernon Davis.
On the other side, the Niners can stop the run and force Flacco to throw some of those bombs he has been using to beat teams. Luck helped him beat Denver that way and NE doesn’t have te talent at S or CB to stop that sort of attack. The Niners know this is key and they have the personnel and scheme to stop it (yes, so did Denver but the improbable can happen).

The Niners will trick Flacco by looking like standard Tampa style cover 2 but from out of that look they can play standard cover 2, Quarters, inverted cover 2 or play each side differently so one side is quarters and the other is standard cover 2. At game speed Flacco will have a hard time deciphering this over the course of the game and inevitably throw deep on the inverted cover 2 and get picked off.

I want to see the 49ers man handle them thugs. I loathe the Ravens, almost as bad as the raiders, and always have. This makes our loss to them even more devastating. I can’t stand the Ravens and their fans, they all act like thugs.

  6. RH709 says:

    Slow in here lately.

  7. wolfedom says:

I totally agree Strand, People celebrating a team of thugs makes me think of the Raider fans. I hope the 49ers smear them and expose them for the losers they are. Of all teams we lost to, the loss to the Ravens is one of the hardest. I think this loss will take a long time to forget.

I was take n the lost against Baltimore a little better theni was at 1st, but now with all this superbowl coverage its really hit n me.Theres no way we shouldve lost that game the way we did.Comes down to that 3rd and 3 for Baltimore and we give up a 70 yard hail marry.Never seen us end a game that horrible in a game that meant so much.BLUE an ORANGE till the day i die but ELWAY please please do something with our secondary.SS or FS really needed.

  9. Luv4Elway says:

Wow, slow day for the bloggers I guess! Baltimore is where our Broncos should be, in the Super Bowl!!! I have no hard feelings against Ravens, they did what they needed to, to win. Our secondary simply didn’t. Doesn’t make the loss any easier to handle. Just means we have to play better defensively, we’ll get it next year! GO BRONCOS!!!

  10. Luv4Elway says:

What do you guys think of the idea of Revis in orange and blue next year? Keep in mind, we have Carter and Harris who did an outstanding job filling in for Porter.

  11. RH709 says:

Again. A guy has one bad play and we NEED a FS. Moore played great all year. Adams had trouble but was asked to do a lot. Q. Carter comes back next year. My guess is we keep Bruton and then pick up a mid round guy as depth/future.

Moore made one bad play that I guarantee doesn’t happen again.

  12. RH709 says:

No, No and NO to Revis. First off, he is too expensive. Second, he is a team cancer. Third, we had the best starting duo out there between Harris and Bailey. Fourth, Harris will actually tackle people. Fifth, the unknown of coming off an injury.

  13. wolfedom says:

I agree with the no on Revis but Moore needs to be placed in a backup role. He may have had a good year, maybe. but to allow that play shows lack of concentration and judgement and is not acceptable. I don’t want to see us lose again in this fashion even if he did have a good year. jmho

  14. alex4serg says:

I seem to be in the minority in hoping that the ravens win. If they a team knocks us out I always feel that they better win it all. Somehow losing to the eventual superbowl champs doesn’t hurt as much as losing to a loser.

  15. tlcat06 says:

I just can’t even watch any of this stuff. Just the game for me. But I think that even that somehow will become about us losing in double overtime. I’m so depressed.

  16. RH709 says:

haha this thing with Moore cracks me up.
One play…one play and he should be a backup or replaced.

If that is the case then Champ should be cut too. He had his worst game as a pro and it came at the wrong time. cut him.

  17. tlcat06 says:

Rahim made a mistake and Champ played his worst game ever, but Peyton fumbled and threw 2 INT. We should cut them all and start over.

  18. tlcat06 says:

Alex I like the Steelers… I hate the Ravens and after they were comparing Flacco to Manning this week I just want him to lose and lose baaaaad!

  19. Royalbroncofan1 says:

You keep making a case for Moore on here RH709 but the majority of the fans do not agree with what you’re saying…especially here in Denver! Moore had a major blunder that’s not excusable with the stakes as high as they were. He’s young and may get a chance to redeem himself but if Carter is healthy, things could change. Moore was burned by getting sucked in on the underneath pattern and that was Leonhard’s responsiblity to keep the play in front of him. Moore blew it big time, which ever way you slice it. Moore should have been playing disciplined ball and covering his deep end of the field with Jones running a go route. Bruton did his job on the opposite side. Fans/bloggers on here are entitled to their own opinions and if they feel that Moore shouldn’t be in there, that’s their prerogative. It you think that’s funny…. have a good laugh. Don’t see anyone laughing with you.

  20. sndvl says:

My opinion is Moore screwed up, but the D was put behind the 8 ball when a run up the middle on 3 & 7 with Hillman was called. That was the bigger error.

Of course, the officiating was the real blunder in that game. But it’s over now and I’m looking forward to free agency then the draft!

I also say no to Revis. No tackling bum… We need more beef for the front 4!

  21. tlcat06 says:

Royal, I think that people are overreacting because we hadn’t lost in 3 months. Yes, he made a huge mistake, but Champ did too and so did Peyton. Win and lose as a team. It’s not one guy who lost that game. Keep dwelling on it and blaming Rahim if you want, but WE lost, not one person, the whole dang team. Cutting Moore is not a good decision. He had a solid season and did a nice job all year and made a mistake. Crikey, if I was fired for every mistake I ever made I wouldn’t have a job at all. Glad JDR and John Fox are in charge of the defense and not Denver fans

  22. tlcat06 says:

Oh, and believe me, no one feels more responsible for that loss than Rahim Moore. You can see it written all over his face after the game. God knows the last thing we need to do is make him feel worse than he already does because that’s just not helpful in anyway. It doesn’t change the situation at all.

  23. wolfedom says:

Sndvl , I want the beef also. Same as last year this year I like Jenkins from Georgia. That’s some serious beef. As far as Moore is concerned he did the unforgiveable in football. In pop warner you are taught to never let the receiver get behind you. He just lost concentration. Enough said and I won’t be commenting on it again.jmo

  24. RH709 says:

That first INT should have been a defensive PI. That play makes me really mad cause it directly ended in points for the other team.

  25. RH709 says:

You described it perfectly Royal. I am laughing cause if we cut everyone for one bad play we wouldnt have a team. High stakes or not. The notion is short sighted and silly.

I could care less if the majority of Broncos Country wants him gone. That is why Fox is in charge. He is smarter than one knee jerk reaction.

The majority of people know a whole lot less about football then they think they do. Sad but true.

  26. Luv4Elway says:

To be honest, I think the refs in our game with the Ravens blew 2 or 3 calls. Did that cost us the game?! Maybe, maybe not, but Moore’s mistake, along with Champ getting burned a couple times and Manning’s 2 int’s didn’t help either. Bottom line is Baltimore came into our house and beat us. My hat goes off to them for also going into New England and beating those sore losers! Super Bowl will be interesting I’ll give it that!

  27. tlcat06 says:

I don’t think you should say the word Knee and Fox in the same sentence for like. Year, RH709. LOL

  28. tlcat06 says:

For like A year… Silly iPad.

  29. RH709 says:

Understandable Cat. I thought that was a dumb move too.

Some of you may see a failure. I see a guy who will work his @$$ off for redemption.
Rahim will be the best Safety in the NFL in 2013. Take it to the bank.

  31. tlcat06 says:

RH… He’s going to make the Pro Bowl next year. I’m with you.

  32. sndvl says:

Now that is funny. Fox & Knee… Air high 5 to you TICat!

  33. OTbroncos says:

    Sometimes I’m clever.

    Nice quote OT!

  35. strandoftds82 says:

Hello Ticat, nice to see ya!

  36. RH709 says:

    Very nice quote OT.

  37. RH709 says:

As is, the pro bowl is silly anyway. Eric Berry was in when Eric Weddle wasn’t. just silly.

  38. tlcat06 says:

LOL true, RH, I was thinking more of the honor of people recognizing you’re one of the best.

So… How my day is going I’m pretty sure that Adrian Peterson is going to win MVP, and I’d beok with it if he had any kind of humbleness about it, but nope. Arrogance is not gorgeous to me. I won’t be happy about it, either.

However, Eli Manning would love a Super Bowl against his brother next year… He just feels bad for his parents because it’s going to be hard to comfort Peyton when the Giants win. LOL!!

  39. DBFanFromAzViaMd says:

Harbowl this year.Manning Bowl next year

  40. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Never said anything about cutting anyone in my post, RH709…don’t know where you got that from.
We know there was a black cloud that Saturday that hung over the stadium.
If I lived in California, I would careless what the fans thought here in Denver as well. As a season ticket holder, along with my fellow constituents, we don’t run the Team but we support them…(literally). We’ll see how it shakes out next season. One thing you can say about Quinton Carter though, is that he made an impact in the playoffs last season wth two picks.
Moore did have a decent year, but was he really challenged with the D-line getting as many sacks as they did. When you’re D-line or front seven isn’t getting any pressure, as in Raven’s game, you’ve got to play disciplined ball….period.

  41. ManningUp says:

I respect the Ravens. I honestly believe we under-estimated them badly. We didn’t come out blazing, like Ray Lewis and his squad. Our defense lost us that game, the sad truth. I feel hopeful for next year and am still proud of my Broncos! We had a spectacular season! 13-3, best team in AFC, or NFL for that matter. Go Broncos!! Manning has knowledge of his team now and I believe he will be even BETTER in September! Broncos 4 life!
