Elway Named “Man of the Year”

October 22nd, 2009 - 12:28pm by Gray Caldwell

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has named John Elway the recipient of its prestigious “Man of the Year” award, the organization announced.

Elway joins a distinguished list of former winners, including Roger Staubach, Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus and Morten Andersen, who was last year’s recipient.

President and CEO Pat Bowlen congratulated Elway on the honor on Thursday.

“On behalf of the Denver Broncos Football Club, I’d like to congratulate John Elway for receiving this great award,” Bowlen said. “In addition to being the greatest Denver Bronco of all time, John is one of the few who is among the greatest players of all time in both college and pro football. His receiving this accolade from the Walter Camp Football Foundation is an honor well deserved by John for public service and community work that equal his greatness on the field. He has always been generous with his time for a myriad causes that benefit those in need and it is gratifying to me and the entire Broncos organization to see John named for this honor.”

The award honors an individual who has been closely associated with the game of football as a player, coach or close attendant to the game. He must have attained a measure of success and been a leader in his chosen profession. He must have contributed to the public service for the benefit of his community, country and his fellow man. He must have an impeccable reputation for integrity and must be dedicated to our American Heritage and the philosophy of Walter Camp.

Dont get me wrong. when i said i wanted competition in our division. it wasnt to prove anything to the naysayers. We play who is on our schedule. I would just like it for me, just to look forward to a stiff competition. dont get me wrong chiefs and raiders have always used any given sunday against us but for the most part chargers are only competition. and while i enjoy things like this kinda wish our division was the best and hate watching whack teams period. dunno if im making sense but it is what it is

TRB, about the Chargers mostly being our main competition, you must be talking for the division title, because when we’ll play at the Chiefs in December, we’ll need our A game for sure with that frigid, wind howling, filled with red clad maniacs stadium… I hate the Raiders the worse, I fear the Chargers the most, but I definitely hate playing at the Chiefs stadium the worse. BTW, if you don’t know if you’re making sense, imagine what it’s like for us, LOL. It’s all cool, man, I kind of get what you say, I just don’t agree with it, I’ve never seen a win I didn’t like and specially love the easy ones which go easy on my nails, chewing that is, ahahah.

Remember when we played darts at Jacksons Hole? You guys were great and just hung out with the local fans. The lineman we all there too. Probably can’t do that any more. But great times.
