Elway Live Premiere

September 20th, 2011 - 5:21pm by Stuart Zaas

The first episode of Elway Live aired on DenverBroncos.com Tuesday. The weekly show with Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway features questions directly from fans that are submitted using #ElwayLive on Twitter.

Justin Schaaf opened the fan questions, wondering what Elway thought about the play of the team’s rookies.

“They’ve come in and really done a tremendous job. Orlando (Franklin) did a great job in training camp. He’s really learned, he’s been a guy that has adapted and has really been coachable. He really played well last week against Cincinnati and graded out very well. Orlando continues to get better week in and week out and is somebody that we’re excited about.

“Rahim (Moore) at free safety is getting more comfortable week in and week out. He’s a guy that has a great feel for the game, a guy that we have to kick out of the building because he works on his film study (so late) and does all the right things that way. He’s a student of the game and a great athlete, so we expect Rahim to continue to get better and better as he gets more comfortable, more confident and more experienced with this defense. I think we’re going to see him in the middle of a lot of things.

“Von (Miller), I love to watch the guy. He’s a guy with great explosiveness, great athletic ability to make those plays and with the speed that he has – he’s feeling better about the defense week in and week out and feeling more confident in coverage, because that isn’t something he did a lot in college. He’s getting better and better and making great strides. I think with all the rookies we have – we’re excited about the draft class that we have and they’re all getting better week in and week out and we’re real excited.”

Dayne Erickson tweeted, “Do you believe (Kyle) Orton has what it takes to take Denver deep into the playoffs?”

“I do. Especially with Kyle’s experience within this offense, his ability to manage a football game – and I think what we can do is that we can help Kyle, as the running game will help Kyle. We won Super Bowls by being balanced on the offensive side. That’s what we’re aiming for now – being balanced, run the football and also have explosive plays in the passing game. Kyle throws the ball as well as anyone in the NFL. He has a great command of the offense, he’s able to paint the picture for the offensive line and get guys in the right place.”

“I believe Kyle has that ability. And he is going to continue to get better.”

Elway Live will be broadcast live on DenverBroncos.com each Tuesday during the season. Hosted by Broncos TV’s Chris Hall, the show breaks down the team’s previous game and looks forward to the upcoming matchup while featuring fan questions submitted via Twitter.

True baylinorcursh. We’ll be fighting KC not to be the “Carp of the AFC West.”

  2. baylinorcrush says:

It’s gonna be a battle for Luck or any of the other top QBs in next year draft, very highly rated QB class that one.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Last time we were in a battle for playoffs was so long ago that I’m now getting used to the idea of being in a battle for top draft order, LOL.

We may win 2 more games this year, the 2 games with KC, maybe so we are in the running for Luck

Really hurts to do this but promised myself to make score picks with my head and not my heart. Broncos lose 28-14. Hope this gets me on the wall of shame because the Broncos win.

I really wouldn’t espect them to air shaky financial outlook. but xanders was not shy during fa and waivers to bring it up. it was only a matter of time before people put 2 and 2 together with the qq. don’t talk about open competition and lie. just come out and say from day one, kyle is qb1. the fact that they didn’t just blew up when it could have been dealt with aready and moved on.

you lose respect when you lie to people.

last thought. imready, question my love for the denver broncos? you have no clue what some of us put up with being denver broncos fans. It seems to me you are disgusted with parents that correct their children when they make mistakesor
    are wrong.

Elway: “kyle’s ability to manage an offense?” I know you’re not stupid Elway and I know that you are supposed to be optimistic when doing these radio talks, but for heaven’s sake, don’t lie to us. Kyle has the ability to either go 3 and out or drive us down close to the red zone, not score a TD and then kick a field goal. And we won those super bowls (offensively) because you are one of the greatest QBs of all time and TD was one of the greatest running backs of all time. Orton is not… Unfortunately.

Something drastic needs to change this week against the Titans. We need to stop the run game, show that champ is not the only one who can cover an average receiver, we need Mcgahee and Decker to have huge games, and we need our QB play to step up. Orton had one terrible game and 1 average game. Because after this week, mistakes won’t get swept under the rug. 2 weeks from now, Green Bay will take full advantage of mistakes and will make us pay every time.

Funny how jon is obviously picking and choosing the questions to answer not cool .What good does it do to ask us to send in ?s for him and he just passes them by.The reason we won this last game is cause our running game and defense no thanks to ortonita so quit giving him so many props.while i like loyd nice to see orton actually looking for another reciever other than staring down loyd the entire play then throwing the ball away at the last minute. One last thing ,does anyone REALLY think orton would throw it to tebow come on now orton is NOT gunna give him NO glory!why even waste the defender covering him he did not even look in his direction!

OrangeCrush…how many Super Bowls did elway win before he got a strong running game?

  15. stevecan2 says:

    carn,

how many years did elway s arm carry us deep into the playoffs? geez buddy pay attention. the was no mention of winning superbowls. oh yeah in his seventh year how many playoff appearances does ko have? think about these things before attempting a gotcha line, save that mess.

The sad part about all this money stuff if I bet Tim would play for free just so he can do what he LOVES! Just to let you guys know, they are going to re-air “everything in Between” about Tim’s quest to get drafted. I missed it in January and have been waiting to see it. It plays on October 4th at 9PM on ESPN 2.

‘imread’ I love what John Elway did for this franchise. Let me re-phrase…. John Elway is the Denver Broncos. This is the house John built, just the same way Babe Ruth built Yankee Stadium. However, he is an executive now and I will judge him as such. As I said I am just tired of hearing that Kyle Orton is the best man to win games. I want to have the man playing that is going to help us win a Super Bowl and in my mind the Bronco organization has already decided that is not Kyle Orton, otherwise he would have a contract beyond this year. Face it Orton is a band-aid. I just wish we would admit we are a team in transition. Start Tebow if he isn’t the quarterback of the future go draft Luck, Barkley or the kid from OU. Just please call a spade a spade.

I do agree but to a point. I been a Denver broncos fan since I layed eye’s on YOU as a player. In my book u are the best QB who ever played the game, your abilities as a QB in reading Defenses, knowing your plays and the ability to run out of the pocket for yardage, you have been manipulating Defenses in the league for many of years in your career; not only that you have NOT had a HALL FAMER widereciever to throw the ball to thur out your career; as in some so called QB GREATS.. not going to say no names; but the only notable Receiver you have throwing the ball to is Mark Jackson, Vance Johnson, Ed McCaffery, & Rod Smith in Denver. With your rocket of a arm and legs to go down a field. You areTruly the best QB and should be noted #1, from your stats, superbowl wins and your all around QB attributes. But on the flip side you played with a good Defense of team as well. And that is were the concern is TODAY. Improving our Defense, we need more talent. A good idea to trade Kyle Orton for a good solid Defense of player, before playing out the season and Orton’s value drops. You mite have to give up a 3rd rd pic w/ the trade but it is worth it. We all know Defense take us to the BIG games, and authentic talented QB’s can be molded. Food for thought teach your legacy to Tim Tebow it will slow the game down for him and will develop him into a good QB. Also please take Elvis Dumervil off D-End & back to outside linebacker, in both position he played, outside linebacker stats speaks for itself; please make adjustment and CONCERNS w/ runningback position make Willis McGahee a starter because Knowshon Moreno is not a every down back but a third down back make the adjustments til you are able to bring in a Great runningback. I am pleased with the change to the defense and some draft picks that are playing defense but still need more talent on defense. And you should be even more concern with the Defense the GREAT CHAMP BAILY is injured and his yrs is getting numbered. MAKE TRADE TO IMPROVE DEFENSE AND DEVELOP TIM TEBOW. On Offense not many problems, because you have talented receiver in Eric Decker, Ed Royal, and especially Brandon Loyld; with McGahee you can get by, Offense of line needs work but you can get by. P.S> remember when u played, you was surround with good Defense and a good offense of line, just think if you had a runningback whom could play, you would have more superbowl rings…. Definitely noted number 1 in my book. And now that you are back you bring back that same intensity when we were winners…. Develop Tim Tebow, put him in there and you help personally coach him, he will develop. I know that is not your job but that is the right thing to do….
