Elway Happy with Tebow

December 6th, 2011 - 4:42pm by Kenny Legan

Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow got another stamp of approval from Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway Tuesday.
On DenverBroncos.com’s weekly show ‘Elway Live’, Elway said he is pleased with the way Tebow has progressed.

“I’m very happy with it,” Elway said. “The whole staff is very happy. The team is very happy. Over the seven games he’s started, we’ve won six of those and we’ve won in a lot of different ways.”

Sunday’s victory against the Minnesota Vikings turned out to be another way Tebow and the Broncos pulled out a win: via a shootout.

In Tebow’s six previous starts, none had really pitted two offenses firing on all cylinders. In most games, the Broncos defense held firm and the offense produced when it counted to get the victory.

But this time around, Tebow and the Broncos needed to match the offensive outburst that the Vikings displayed, and they were able to do that.

“It gives us the confidence to know that if we do get in a shootout, we can keep up,” Elway said. “There’s not many people out there who thought we could win a shootout. I think this answered a lot more questions out there that we could go ahead and if things weren’t going well on the defensive side that we are able to answer the bell offensively.”

Tebow had his best passing game all season, going 10-for-15 for 202 yards and two touchdowns. He had four completions for more than 20 yards. He was able to put up those numbers without really having to carry the ball. One week after recording 22 rushes, he had just four against the Vikings.

“It just goes to show you what a weapon he is, that if they shut down one aspect whether it be with his legs, that he can beat them with his arm and vice versa,” Elway said. “If they’re going to make him throw the football, he can beat them with his legs. I think that’s one of the great attributes Tim has, that he can do both.”

Let’s talk about who we’re gonna face in the post-season and …

    how far we gonna get?….

  2. seweatherman1 says:

There is one thing for sure. IF the put TT in and expected him to fail (which I do not believe for one second) then he has proved that wrong. He has not. IF they thought that he would not become the passer that they want, then he is proving that wrong too.

Like Elway said “It just goes to show you what a weapon he is, that if they shut down one aspect whether it be with his legs, that he can beat them with his arm and vice versa.”

I don’t think that they are studying the QQ situation for next year at this momernt. Elway is, or has realized that this inexperienced, unconventional qb of ours if taking this team to the playoffs and that is what is on his mind right now more than anything else.

My wife is gonna kill me – we end up watching and blogging football seven days a week. She thinks she’s losing to a mistress or something! Ouch! LOL

db – NFL.com has us at #9, and ESPN and CBS both have us ranked #10 in the power rankings

  5. daddybronc says:

That helps some – I wonder what the picks are based on? I knew we had jumped in the polls some places – just amazes me that the expert picks still have us way down.

  6. daddybronc says:

oops – I must have somehow gotten into last weeks picks

  7. OrangeTsunami says:

Gruden has always been a Tebow guy, I remember during the draft he and Kiper would argue about it and Gruden would get pissed at Kiper for hating on the kid… Loved hearing Gruden talk about Tebow during that god awful game last night….

  8. broncsbomber66 says:

I wouldnt say Im a Tebow fan, but I cant argue with results. The team is playing out of their minds and I do believe Tebow is the main reason for that. I think the only way we dont draft a QB next year is we win a playoff game or two.

  9. daddybronc says:

66 – has been argued ad nauseum –

Why would the Broncos not draft – no matter what?

  10. daddybronc says:

I think Tebow can be declared the franchise QB and EFX will still draft a QB.

  11. OrangeTsunami says:

I’m not a Tebow fan per se, but rather a Denver Bronco fan.. I was at the draft when we selected him, and I almost had a heart attack… However, I love how we are going against the grain, and doing what everyone says we can’t do – how cool is that??

  12. daddybronc says:

OT – get on board the bandwagon we are having a party!!!

    B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS….

nice discussions today… Same as Yesterday, but still…

This week will be Crazy Great for the Broncos! Green Bay will pretty much step on the Raiders Proverbial throat for us and that has me all tingly inside…

Colquitt has the skills to help contain Hester, but with a guy like that if you kick him the ball multiple times just expect bad things to happen… like sticking your hand in the Rattle Snake Jar… One too many times will get you bitten…

    Some notes from Previous posts…

Our defense showed that without Von bringing constant pressure in the backfield they are very mediocre at best… We were repeatedly burned by a Rookie QB that had one Legit WR… We were essentially Ran over by a back-up RB… I don’t understand how we can tout ‘Scheme’ when we literally were saved by a Turnover and A TEBOW…

The thing that was most impressive to me during our victory came, not surprisingly, from OUR Quarterback (I’m calling him that from now on)… He was consistent in his progression from primary target to secondary, and for the first time that I can remember OUR Quarterback looking so comfortable with his feet following his eyes, which naturally puts his body in position to make quality throw after quality throw…

This Defense has alot of young talent, but it also has many MANY average (at best) players… Which makes our run of victories so much more impressive… *these players weakness are literally protected by the quality of our pass rush…

OUR Quarterback is a winner… I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (and again)… ELWAY was a winner… It took him 15 years to gain most of your praises, as I know for a fact that until he won the superbowl (and especially after losing to Jacksonville in the ’97 playoffs) many MANY people had dismissed him as well…

For the tried and true fans, (the ones that sat through every snap of the 55-10 schlacking we took from the 49ers in Superbowl XXIV) this is a time of great pride and great joy, watching a young team learn how to play together and to win… For those that ALWAYS believed in ELWAY this is a time of GREAT JOY and ANTICIPATION as our former field general now does what he does best from the front office…

It’s time to believe… It’s time to encourage, and it’s time to enjoy the product that is the Denver Broncos, as I know they bring you as much joy once a week for three hours as they do me…

LONG LIVE THE ORANGE AND BLUE!!!

VON TEBOW FOOTBALL!!! Here to stay and I couldn’t be happier!!!

    FTB!!!

  14. OrangeTsunami says:

    LOL!!! Oh, I’m on baby!!!!

  15. OrangeTsunami says:

BT – good point about the defense.. I’m as happy as anyone with their play this season, but let’s not fool ourselves people, the defense has a ways to go.. I’m pretty confident that JF & DA will make their case come draft time, and prevent a first round draft blunder…

  16. Louisianabroncofan says:

    Broncos 26
    Bears 12

Tebow lookin a little better every week. I’ll be damned. But a long way to go yet.

  17. broncsbomber66 says:

I mean in first three rounds

  18. strandoftds says:

Daddy, those so called experts are wanting the raiders to win our division. They are wishful in thinking that, they are all idiots!

  19. Louisianabroncofan says:

And I remember that shalacking at the hands of the 49ers very well turtle. Have hated em since. I was about 9 or so, and cried during that game. Then my older brother jumped in and made sure my day was even WORSE than it already was. Bad day that was.

  20. broncsbomber66 says:

    Gronkoski<Harris?

  21. broncsbomber66 says:

    Champ> Welker?

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

I think that Gronk gets an over under LB/S, Champ gets mostly one-on-one with Branch, and Welker will be beating Goody ALL day long… So, hopefully we run some Nickel and put Harris on Welker (Who shouldn’t be able to push him over…)

But that is over a week away…

This week I think that Bailey will be able to take Bennett out of the game completely and without Forte coming out of the backfield I see them stuffing up the middle to not let the Bears TE get loose…

Another thing from the Game film… Watch DE Hunter… He takes pride in delaying the TE off the line of scrimmage and that payed huge dividends while trying to contain Shainco and Rudolph (even though Rudolph did make an AMAZING td grab)

  23. strandoftds says:

If I were EFX I wouldn`t dare draft a QB until the earliest the 3rd round. We need other positions to fill, CB,RB, DT, WR, and a backup QB.

  24. broncsbomber66 says:

I thought Minnesota had a good group of young players. Glad we came out with a win.

  25. daddybronc says:

Def. Min. played much better than their record. Except secondary.

  26. OrangeTsunami says:

If he enters the draft this year, Denard Robinson wouldn’t be a bad pick in the 5th round, maybe the BLloyd pick.. He’s an extremely gifted runner and could get on the field year one in the backfield or slot, and he could also give us the back up option QB we apparently so desperately need… lol

  27. strandoftds says:

I`m all for drafting Robinson as our backup QB.

  28. daddybronc says:

I’m thinking that the playoff picture won’t change a lot in the last 4 weeks. I think BAL wins out and finishes in 1st seed. HOU 2nd seed. Pat – will have 12-4 record with a loss to DEN and finish 3rd seed. DEN will have 11-5 record or 10-6 and end up in 4th. PIT gets 6th /12-4/losing to SF. CIN gets 6th with 9-7 record. Ten and OAK will both end with 9-7 records but miss the playoffs. LOL

So DEN will end up with PIT in the 1st game – what a fun game! I’m picking Tebust to deflate that arrogant buffoon!

Cincy will get the Pats again and they’ll be gone.

Pats then get BAL and lose. DEN gets HOU and we apologize Kubiak but send him packing.

So that leaves DEN facing BAL for the AFC Champ game / and GB for the finale’.

This is informational to those of you who are wondering what the rest of the football season will look like. Haha
Just trying to be helpful. gulp! aahhhh!!!

  29. broncsbomber66 says:

Could work Orange. Any other QB prospect worth mentioning after the second or third rounds?

  30. OrangeTsunami says:

I’ve heard people compare DRobinson to DHester, freakish athlete

  31. strandoftds says:

I just now looked up Denard Robinson. The guys to small to be a QB in the NFL. 6’1″ and 193 lbs. Not even!! Too small.

  32. strandoftds says:

LOL! Daddys now drinking a big gulp. HaHa!!

  33. strandoftds says:

    Seven minutes until game time.

  34. sndvl says:

Lol Daddy…who provides your inside info? That sounds like a great playoff group (I’d argue the Titans or Jets over Cincy, but that’s neither here nor there)….

As far as that article I posted last night, I think you completely missed the point of it.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

  35. millerqbkiller says:

1 said it earlier and ill say it again lamichael james would fit perfect with this run first offense he also can catch balls but he would be a great guy to add to mcgahee and tebow running the rock. I live in bend Oregon so i might be a little biass on this opinion.

  36. OrangeTsunami says:

He is small, and is also an option QB.. Add those two things up, and he will fall deep in to the later rounds, maybe beyond the 5th. For us, it might be a decent gamble, b/c we could use him with Tebow in the backfield out of the option, and he would also give us another option QB on the roster to back Tebow up if he gets injured. He would serve a dual role w/o being just an option QB taking up a roster spot

  37. daddybronc says:

    I’m thinking that kid from Idaho – Kellen Moore – he’s also 6’1″ 191

His size could keep him around long enough in the draft – it could also keep him happy with his paycheck sitting on a winning team behind Tebow just collecting the rings. Yeah – that new wife of his should be plenty happy with that!!!

  38. daddybronc says:

Sndvl – I reread that stupid article 3 times and enjoyed it every time until the last few lines – I’m hoping the author just mis-edited or something because he damaged his whole article.

Truth is – it could be me – I was up with crying kids and a old torn rotator ache. It was early in the AM.

  39. OrangeTsunami says:

If you think about it we don’t really have a “burner” on the roster.. And that’s the options best friend (i.e Percy Harvin)

  40. millerqbkiller says:

i think lamichael james fits the bill of a burner like a percy harvin or a reggie bush

  41. OrangeTsunami says:

bb66 – I’m not too sure about the entire QB draft class yet, all I know is that the good, more polished one’s are gonna go quick

  42. Bronco_Turtle says:

I had included beating the Steelers in my Birthday wishlist from last Wednesday…

I also have not forgiven or forgotten that Championship Loss…

Pitts D would create real problems for Tebow… as they are good at setting the edge and pressuring the quarterback… I still think that Von eats Roethlisberger’s lunch, as Ben tends to ‘stand in’ and try to shed hits rather than avoid them…

:o ) Either way… we are having a legitimate Playoff discussion, and it’s not a Dream!!!

    FTB!!!

  43. OrangeTsunami says:

I’ve actually heard good things about LaMichael James, haven’t seen him play enough tho. I think we’ll see a RB taken for sure, given KM’s status

  44. sndvl says:

So in your opinion, the lord blessed Tebow with superior football skills that have allowed him to be successful?
His parents (both parents) have nothing to do with it?
I’m confused as to why you (of all people) would think that article was ‘stupid’…

  45. millerqbkiller says:

well i watch james every sat and man this guy has wheels and could be a tuff fast runner who could also catch balls and when he gets in space he usually takes it to the house with him tebow and mcgahee wow defenses would be screwed

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

Denard Robinson is great at running outta the QB position, but not very good at passing(he had 2 ints against SD State),point is there aren’t very many option QBs coming out this year except for bay’s guy…… RG3!

But if DR does come out and say falls to the 3rd round,it would be a good pick, imo…….he could play multiple positions!

  47. BeastFromEast92 says:

Lamichael James is a burner, man he is frekishly fast, but do we take a RB,DT,CB,or QB in the 1st round?

  48. OrangeTsunami says:

You think this James kid is a first rounder?

  49. BeastFromEast92 says:

I think our biggest concern as of right now is a CB,but that’s just my opinion!

  50. millerqbkiller says:

not sure but i think no matter what our coaches will make a great pick early they did good last year
