Broncos Executive VP of Football Operations John Elway and Head Coach John Fox traded the football field for the fairway on Friday at the first round of the 24th Annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe.
Playing under a modified Stableford format where players receive points for shooting par or better, Elway scored a 22 on Friday.
Fox, pictured above with Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith, finished at -1.
Elway’s score is good for a three-way tie in fourth place. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and former NHL All-Star Jeremy Roenick also finished at 22.
Former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Mark Rypien leads after the first round with a score of 27.
Elway’s best finish at the event came in 2010, when he tied for second place.
The second round will be televised live today from 1-4 p.m. MST on NBC Sports and the Golf Channel.
