Elway Excited for Playoffs

January 3rd, 2012 - 4:44pm by Max Henson

A 7-3 loss to the Chiefs wasn’t the way Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway preferred to enter the playoffs, but the organization’s goal of winning the AFC West was accomplished.

“I am a little disappointed in how we played last week,” Elway said during his weekly live-streamed show ‘Elway Live’ on DenverBroncos.com. “But the first goal we set was to win the AFC West. We did that.”

Now the Broncos are getting ready for postseason play against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in the Wild Card round.

“It’s a great experience for everybody,” Elway said. “It’s nice to be back in (the playoffs) and competing. Everyone’s excited.”

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity,” he added. “This is what you practice and play for the whole year. The excitement level will be there.”

Elway touched on a variety of topics throughout the show and some highlights are listed below.

On playing the Steelers:

“We’re going against a very good defense and a very good football team that’s very tested and has a veteran team that’s played in a lot of playoff games. It’s exciting and at 7:30 tomorrow morning the players will come in here ready to go.”

On the Denver passing game:

“Obviously we have to do a better job in the passing game. And that’s not just one guy, it’s the whole offense and it’s also the play calling. Everything is involved and we’re going to the best we can to turn it around. Hopefully we can get it turned around quickly this week.”

On how to bounce back:

“You put your nose back to the grindstone and do the best you can. Work together as a team – that’s the biggest thing, all 11 guys going in the same direction, all 11 guys doing their jobs. … We have to get everybody on the same page, and if we can do that we can have success.”

On Chris Kuper’s injury:

“It’s always difficult to lose a guy like Chris Kuper – he’s the leader of that group and has really played well this year. I don’t know that you can really replace him, but Russ Hochstein gets as close as we can because he is a veteran, he’s been a coach within that group. He knows everybody real well and came in and played well last week.”

On the team’s turnaround in Head Coach John Fox’s first season:

“John has done a tremendous job — to be able to put in a new defense like (Defensive Coordinator) Dennis Allen did and to get through a slow start and win the West … The players have played hard week in and week out and down in and down out –- that’s been the most encouraging. It’s a direct credit to John Fox.”

This game will be a defining game for TT. I believe his stock value moving forward will have a lot to do with his performance in the biggest game of his career.

kk – LOL! Yep, no pressure at all… The good news is Tebow is a gamer, and has a TON of big game experience.. He’s a tough kid, and can fight through adversity.. He just needs to get his mojo back!!!

Legwold leaves out one very important fact , at least in the portion of the article posted by Bay. Big Ben is plaing at about 60-70 percent and can not put weight on that ankle to throw the ball properly nor can he escape a tackler like he can when healthy. Check the tape on the Steelers game last week, he is obviously hampered by his injury. I think a fair comparison may be how Von Millers injury has hampered him. I think the Steelers will be forced to run the ball more that they have this season.
Xander’s has helped put this team in the playoffs by actions concerning the Broncos. So has Elway, they will both learn from their mistakes and get better in the future. Quit complaining , we are in the playoff for the first time in a long time. It doesn’t matter how you get there, it’s getting there that matters.
The Broncos had a winning streak because they never gave up and just went out an played the game they love. They need to not worry about the senerio and just play ball. The one thing missing from Teboew’s recent speeches is the “fun” element. They need to get back to that and good things will happen. Go Broncos!

I think I have mentioned it before, but I am a preschool teacher for 3 year olds and during the 6 game win streak I always got my class to join me in chanting for Tim Tebow after each win. It has slowed down in recent weeks obviously, but now they all ask about Tebow, and their parents mention that the kids all ask to watch him when he is on TV. Awesome right? haha. One dad is a Chicago fan and got mad (jokingly of course) because his son was rooting for Tebow when we played the Bears lol.

Well now some of the kids are starting to actually pay close attention to him, and one student, Emma, in particular has become such a big fan that her mom is currently buying her a Tebow T-shirt. She makes me so proud haha.

Anyways, Emma approached me today at snack time and said, “Tim Tebow lost!”

Defending my team I said, “Yeah that is true. But the Broncos are in the playoffs!”

“Yay!” she exclaimed, but then she pondered for a second and asked me this….

“Mr. Jon, does Tim Tebow ever THROW the football?”

Not wanting to teach my kids false information all I could say to answer her was “Not well, Emma. Not well at all.”

True story I thought everyone could appreciate :)

Regardless of Tebow’s future, at least we got to add another fan to Bronco Country! lol

23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. 24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

27 The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”
