Dynamic Ground Duo Up For Awards

December 8th, 2009 - 9:26am by Chris Gentilviso

After strong ground games against the Chiefs in Week 13, Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter are each up for weekly awards.

Moreno is eligible to become the Pepsi Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. The rookie running back finished with 86 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in the Broncos’ 44-13 win at Kansas City. He previously won the weekly accolade during Week 4 against Dallas, Week 5 against New England and Week 12 against the New York Giants.

Through his first 12 games in the NFL, Moreno leads all rookies with 182 rushing attempts and 774 rushing yards. For four straight weeks, Moreno has eclipsed 80 yards rushing. His six games with 80 or more rushing yards ties for second among all NFL rookies since 2000.

Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin, Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy, Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis, and Colts cornerback Jacob Lacey are the other finalists this week for the the honor. You can vote for Moreno here through Friday at 10 a.m. MT.

Buckhalter has received his first nomination of the season for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week. He rushed for 113 yards on 12 carries against the Chiefs, marking the third-highest single-game total of his career.

Buckhalter’s 9.4 yards-per-carry led the NFL for the week and marked the best output by a Bronco since Tatum Bell’s 10.6 average against the Redskins on Oct. 9, 2005.

In his first 12 games with the Broncos, Buckhalter ranks third in the league with a 5.4 yards-per-carry average. He also has already set a career-high with 27 receptions on the season.

Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart and Jets running back Thomas Jones are the other finalists for the honor. You can vote for Buckhalter here through Friday at 10 a.m MT as well.

So again, vote here for Moreno and here for Buckhalter.

Glad to see our RBs getting some love….Buck had a great game. I think Knowshon has a great chance at offense ROY. He has been very productive in both the run and pass. Hopefully he will get a little better at blitz pickup. Hopefully we can put up some good numbers against Indy.

Just voted for both. Also, voted Kurt for ‘Air’ – no true Bronco fan would vote for the other two.

    GO BRONCOS !!!
