Dumervil Asks for Help

January 13th, 2010 - 3:14pm by Gray Caldwell

Elvis Dumervil, who is of Haitian descent, appeared on ESPN this afternoon to talk about the devastation Haiti is facing after a 7.0 earthquake struck the country.

UPDATE: Dumervil has released a statement:

“I would like to thank everyone who has already offered their support to the victims of this tragedy. On a personal level, I must express my sincere gratitude for all of the love and support I have received. This is a difficult time for myself and my family, as we try to contact our family members in Haiti. Your thoughts and prayers are well received and greatly appreciated. I have personally witnessed the power and impact of the American people coming together in times of turmoil. I would like to encourage you all to do whatever you can to offer support to the people of Haiti. Wyclef Jean has put together The Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund. You can visit the website www.yele.org to get more information and to donate, or you can text the word “YELE” to 501 501 to automatically donate five dollars. You can also visit The Second Chance Opportunity Center at www.secondchanceopp.org or The Stark County Out of Poverty Partnership Foundation at www.scopp.org to help the victims of this tragedy.”

This is so reminding of the horrible tsunami that took the lifes of a quarter million people, it is impossible for us to comprehend the monstrosity of such number of fatalities, just think of how we felt in this country when we lost 3,000 people in the Twin Towers or 1,000 people in Katrina. The ones who can afford it and do give money to help alleviate the pain in such catastrophic events, such as the poster and his family above, are to be commended. I guess Doom is learning the hard way how easy it is in this world to be on top one day, and at the very bottom the next, be strong Doom, hopefully you will be able to cope with this incomprehensible event in your life, in anyone’s life for that matter, but obviously hitting closer to home for you. Hope all your family and friends there, if any, were spared.

Isaish 40:27-31 – another good verse to read that can help you to stay strong in such a difficult situation.

From my family and I, may we offer our heart-felt prayers to God on behalf of you, your family, and the many people who’ve lost their own lives or the lives of those whom they love. It’s times like these when we all need to (and will) pull together. With the help of those who can, and with God’s help, we can all heal together. Again, may I offer my heart-felt prayers and support to you and your family.

It’s when what just happened in Haiti happens, it makes us reflect and realize that even in our toughest times in America, it could be worse. I will be seeking out ways to help the victims. My thoughts are with those victims effected by the quake.
