On Monday, a number of guys were at Dove Valley continuing their rehab from injuries in 2008, or they were just stopping by. Today, a pair of Broncos stopped in after getting into town ahead of time for Monday’s offseason conditioning program.
Matt Prater and Brandon Stokley were hanging out down in the locker room. Both players have spent their offseason spending time with family back in their respective home states.
The kicker traveled down to Florida to enjoy time with his three brothers and the nice weather “instead of freezing out here” he said with a laugh.
“I hung out with the family back in Florida,” Prater said. “That’s pretty much it. I’ve been lifting weights, trying to stay in shape, but I took a little time off.”
One of his favorite things to do in his time off is go fishing, so he made up for lost time on the water by reeling them in with his brothers. A self-proclaimed “home body,” Prater isn’t one to do a lot of traveling. He’d rather just kick back with his family and enjoy spending time with them.
But just because he may have spent a lot of time on a boat doesn’t mean he lost touch with football completely. In fact, he had a chance to talk on the phone with a couple of guys who will play a major role in his kicking duties — special teams coordinator Mike Priefer and longsnapper Lonie Paxton.
“Coach Priefer called me a few times, and it was really nice of him to do that. We’ve stayed in touch,” Prater said. “The new longsnapper Lonie Paxton called me. It was good to hear from him, and I’m looking forward to working with these new guys.”
He has not, however, had a chance to speak with Head Coach Josh McDaniels yet, though he hopes he may be able to do so today before things get started next week.
Either way, he’s excited about getting the team back together in Dove Valley for the workouts to begin building for the 2009 season.
“I’m looking forward to these workouts, getting to see everybody,” Prater said. “Everybody’s out of town, so I’ve been bored out of my mind. But I love working out, so it will be good to get back here with the guys.”
As for Stokley, spending time with his family was the best part of the offseason as well. He traveled back to Louisiana to kick back and relax with his wife and kids.
“I’ve really enjoyed the offseason. I’ve had a lot of time to relax, play golf and hang out with the family,” Stokley said. “I pretty much just went down to Louisiana and hung out down there. I didn’t do too much. That’s always really nice. I think it’s key to kind of rejuvenate yourself. Once you come back here, you’re ready to work and concentrate on football. But that time is good to just get away from everything and get your focus back.”
Like Prater, he has had a chance to speak with some of his coaches. He hasn’t yet started digging into the new offense that McDaniels will be implementing though. But he’s excited about getting to work on it and all the new things the Broncos will be doing in 2009.
As for the workouts set to begin Monday, the 11-year veteran has a slightly different take. When asked if he’s looking forward to the start of the conditioning program, he shook his head and smiled.
“Not very much at all,” he said with a laugh. “That first week is always really tough. You get really sore, so I’m not really looking forward to that part too much. After that first week, you get into a good routine and get the soreness out, but you’ve got to start somewhere.”
Mostly he’s just looking forward to spending time with his teammates again.
“Being around all the guys is the best. Starting off fresh, new and everybody has that same goal. We’ll be working hard to reach that goal, and that’s what it’s all about.”

monodono , i am still praying.
Thanks texark-fan. I wouldn’t be surprized if Jay was whispering in an ear. I wasn’t going to mention Jake but you did. I was disappointed when Mike took him out of the starting lineup but then I saw something in Cutler thar reminded me of Elway. Even the interceptions, but I also saw him making mistakes that shouldn’t have been made. Then this year when they picked up McDaniels I got very excited like when Shanahan was hired. I know that I’m not the first one to mention this because I’ve read it more than once but it is the coach’s responsibility to listen to all prospects out there and if Cutler doesn’t like it tough. the responsibility that I refer to is to the Broncos fans. GOOOOOOOOO Broncos.
The Denver Post quoted McDaniels as saying he wanted to meet again with Cutler to try to resolve their differences before considering a trade.
“Cutler told ESPN he would attend every mandatory minicamp and training camp but would skip the offseason training program, which won’t subject him to fines.” So The Broncos wont be able to treat Him as a hold out. Although it’s voluntary, the coaches expect everyone to attend the team’s offseason program. To show commitment to the TEAM! Commitment Cutler is not Showing!
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! ! NOT CUTLERS ! ! !
tj– how long have you been reading all if this stuff?
Thanks monodono. I’ll try. Cutler wants to be traded, I’m sorry to hear this but it might be the best thing for this franchise at this point. trade hime to the Lions for the no. 1 pick because the Lions don’t want to have to pay the no. 1 pick money this year, then trade that pick for two trade picks in the same round, 1st round and go after more defense players. Loooove them Broncos.
a couple fo weeks.
texark-fan, I’m praying to, I want Cutler to Man up and prove to the Fans that are backing Him that He is a True Leader and Wants to be a Bronco. He has not. He will say He wants to retire a Bronco if The Broncos will let Him bla bla bla… He has The Broncos bent over and is exploiting a Rookie Coach mistake. The only way to get all of The Broncos Fans back on His side is to show up and Prove Me wrong Until He does just that He is just trying to get paid and so is Bus Cook!
I wont back Him until He comes into The Voluntary Meetings not manditory meetings. Showing up to Voluntary Meetings Shows His Commitment to The TEAM, The FANS, and OWNERSHIP. Then He deserves to be PAID an exstensive contract.
PLEASE JAY PROVE ME WRONG, OR GET OUT!
monodono, i was talking about your g-baby. there is more to life then football.
we are seeing eye to eye on cutler. and i hope mac can pull off a good year w/ or w/o cutler.
just the last couple of weeks.
My friends, I’ve finally taken time to think about this. Whenever anyone feels angry, irrationality and a sense of counter-productiveness prevails. Cutler and McDaniels both need to chill out, I think. If they do this, they can react to each other in a positive manner and still be great together. I give you the Arizona Cardinals of last season: how often did current Chiefs coach Todd Haley and Kurt Warner disagree? According to Kurt, disagreements occurred regularly but they still cowboyed up, if you will, and nearly won a championship. If Cutler still wants out, I would bring in David Garrard, who will excel with all the talent we have on offense while the defense will improve exponentially. Come hell or highwater, the Broncos will be good in 2009 and I have faith another franchise quarterback will emerge in the next few seasons. The point is we all must have faith who bleed orange and blue. If not, it’s counter-productive to be a fan. GO BRONCOS!!!
texark-fan, your right there is more to life than football and this will be my last post of the day. G Daughter is doing good!

TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
hey monodono- how is your grandbaby doing. Simms is not a bad qb and i think he could do some good things how many people gave arizona a chance with kurt or tennese with kerry. cutler grow a pair and get back to work. GET RID OF YOUR AGENT.
If Simms turns out to be the option, then perhaps Colt McCoy can be our quarterback of the future. Texas isn’t known for their signal-callers but I think my hypothetical scenario would be a good fix if Cutler remains obstinate.
bradlee van pelt i like that monodono lol
PAT BOWLEN IS SHOWING SOME OF HIS TRUE COLORS !!!
…Don’t know why not much has been said about Mr Bowlen yet?? ..since He is the one who decided it “was time for a change”.
Hear me out on this…
Bowlin “FIRES” Mike Shanahan instead of allowing him to resign. Terrell Davis had a problem with that and so did I. Shannahan gave every Bronco fan thier biggest wish.. WINNING a SUPERBOWL..twice. ..and he sincerely tried to get them back there again just wasn’t panning out (on the defensive side anyway)…but he was trying hard. SO LETS FIRE HIM an dmake a public spectacle after 12 years of dedication and two SB rings. huh?? I’m not against the “time for change” thought BUT come on man..don’t fire the guy like that. Not cool imo
Then Bowlen puts ALL the emphasis on “whatever it takes to win”. Well I’m all for winning but not at “all” costs. Not without integrity and keeping promises…which seems to be lacking in bronco corporate right now.
I mean first Bowlen says that Cutler is our future QB (confirmed that after the shannahan incident) and now he says he’s dissapointed in him for being upset at the intent to trade him BEHIND HIS BACK. Which is it Pat?? Is he or isn’t he the QB??
Im sorry but after reading this article.. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3983805 ..and reading Cutlers comments on his intent to make it work and Mcdaniels ..well what almost seems like a Mcdaniles Power Trip, I’m really dissapointed in the whole Bronco organization for how they are handeling this in particularly Pat Bowlen for sucking Mcdaniels thumb through it all.
…If there’s no more loyalty and integrity in this organization then it will be really hard for me to be a Bronco Fan this yr. If they don’t resolve this with Cutler after he has tried to make it work than it’ll be real hard to support.
…oh and one last thing on McDaniels ..everybody is saying how anyone is tradable etc (which is BS imo..there is an unwritten code of ethics called loyalty to some degree) but check this out.. Are you telling me if Mcdaniels is the coach of New England that Tom Brady is traded instead of Matt Cassel…yeah right. Brady is NE’s man…and in Denver just like it was imperative to win with Elway, Denver fans want to win with CUTLER now NOT turn this whole thing into a wanna be Patriots team…
Since none of the Bloggers want to post a blog on this whole indecent, we’ll just keep commenting on it since it is the biggest thing going on right now with the team.
No Cutler and I give No support to McDaniels. He needs to swallow his pride, humble himself and realize that leadership is EARNED not mearly given by position and that the greatest test to that is the FRUIT that is produced which he is proving to be not so good.
Let me know what you think
get bradford next year or get stafford from the lions only solution trade him to tennessee where he wants to play for vince young and a conditional draft pick i prefer keeping him this is bs. jay is the third best qb in the league if you ask me 1st if you ask him im sure, to me it goes brady manning cutler brees, then a bunch of guys clouded together big ben romo little manning and even rivers even though he is a ………better not say but he has talent. but to get to the point jay has the talent he is just immature but he has a reason to be mad and mcdaniels has a reason to want his own qb but they need to get over it cause without jay we are three years away from a playoff game and we wanna win now. there is no good trade we can not get his value unless new england wants to cough up tom brady so in other words DONT TRADE HIM. GIVE HIM 100 MILLION 7 YEAR CONTRACT AND WIN A DAMN SUPERBOWL
Being a Bronco fan sure has gotten tough the last few weeks! Every time I read something I think someone else is to blame, why is that? Why so much misinformation? Always a source close to the situation says the media. Are the Broncos intentionally creating all this kaos? Monodono needs to lead a team to Broncoland and put some taps on the phones and microphones in the lampshade so we abused fans can find out what the truth is regarding this situation. I say , if he doesn’t we will never know the truth because they don’t want us to know the truth. And that’s the truth!
Go Nuggets!
If the head coach does not believe in a player primarily a franchise QB, then you have nothing! If your first message to a pro- bowl QB before you even meet him is I DON’T think you the right person for the job, by entertaining a trade for a QB that you know, but is not proven in the NFL, and your not up front with him then you are screwing up the very thing Shanny said when he was released: “This offense is poised to do great things, I would not mess with it”
i bet this turns out like the kobe bryant situation. one day he wants out the next day he wants to stay. and i think we will stay an lead us to a afc west championship next year. watch it happen
As he watches this whole mess unfold (a rookie coach making a very big mistake in not getting the deal he wanted done, which, in turn wound up creating a rift between himself and the current QB, who apparently refuses to return the owner’s calls), I wonder what Brian Dawkins is thinking, given that he was brought in for his leadership.
You know what really sucks,,…..I think that Cutler WILL be traded to the lions with a first round pick and more………….. the broncos will have no choice but to get Stafford and sign Garcia or Losman to groom him… I hate saying this but i think it’s true. Cutler will probably be in a draft day deal and something similar will happen. Θ
it sounds as if cutler wants to sit out 2009 and come back when shanny gets a new team
Nice dbroncos6, I like your enthusiasm and positive attitude. Of course that can happen. Of course, we need a Pau Gasol for our Kobe Bryant in Jay Cutler.
monodono, thank you for the links and the “I am jacks complete lack of surprise” quote is fantastic. I agree with several points that you have made regarding Cutlers need to man up. For an individual who has prospered over the last few years with the aid of wide receivers who began learning their trade via Rod Smith it is very surprising that he might not extend his vision to include the most fundamental work ethics that made #80 the hall of fame player that he was. Jay; this quote is for you. Rod Smith on if he ever missed an off season training schedule…”Why would I?” Mr. Smith had a very basic ideology. Team first, who cares about statistics and what can I do to make myself better every day. Mr. Cutler; take it from a man who knew that the only reason his name was positioned over a locker in Denver for 13 years was because he gave them a reason to keep him there every single day. Thanks for the information that allows us to cross reference and sift through to the truth monodono.
Break their will to compete
Mike in San Diego
Thanks archangel77, and what a Great point about Rod Smith putting The TEAM first, Rod Smith Was and still Is a True Bronco and I’m not sure Jay Cutler will ever Be unless He steps up and proves He is The better Man. I hope He can and does for the better of The TEAM and then He should be paid not before and not with a gun to The TEAMs head. Right now Bus Cook is holding The Broncos Hostage and alot of Fans dont even know it.
THIS IS WHAT HE DOES FOR A LIVING PEOPLE!
He rips the Fans from The TEAM and holds them Hostage till they pay up and all of you are falling right into His trap!
Yes Jay Cutler Has a lot of talent and is intitled to more money IF He Proves He is The Leader of This TEAM but He hasn’t, therefore doesn’t.
Jay Please come to the meetings or go away!
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
monodono i agree with every thing you are saying i just cant beleive he is acting lke this. and i’m not sure i want him around any more. i love his talent and i do believe we are better team with him but if he cant put his ego to bed and be there for the team he should go. there are people upset with the broncos saying they should be showing more loyalty to Jay when we know for a fact if this was a contract year for jay and he got a better deal than what the broncos would offer he would be gone. so my point is Organization and players do what is better for them. those days of being loyal to each other are over.
I don’t see Jay’s ego being an issue… this is the 1st time we have had issues with it… and this is actually understandable… The guy was almost traded (this being the 1st time he team didn’t want him)… It will affect a guy with so much talent…. JUST FORGIVE AND FORGET!…. Renegotiate Jay’s contract…
This all looks too familiar to me: Oakland Raiders, champions, loosing seasons, change to veteran players, many coach changes, team gets worse, Al Davis responsible. Denver Broncos, champions, loosing seasons, change to veteran players, future…many coach changes, team gets worse. Al Davis Jr. oops Pat Bowlen responsible. So sad for us fans who really care for the players. I loved watching players develop into Great Denver Broncos. Now it seems it is only about winning without development. Too bad. NFL going down hill. It’s a business. Boy that is for sure. I hope this new UFL can get the NFL back on course.
i too like the references to rod smith. he was a class act and is probably shaking his head at jay cutlers antics right now.
everyone understands that the fact the broncos wanted to trade jay cutler upset him and justifiably so. i dont have a problem with him being irked or upset about the trade attempt but he’s gotta get over it. bottom line is he absolutely has to suck it up and do what he is under contract to do. play football to the best of his ability for the denver broncos. you can say all the “he’s the future and we gotta treat him a certain way” things you want but the bottom line is even if the broncos wanna offer him up to all the teams all offseason and make it loudly known he’s tradeable then so be it. its their team and their players they can do what they want. jay has no right to fight that at all. what he should do is ignore it no matter how hard that would be and go out and play the best football he can play and earn as much money and as many rings as he can wherever he is and no matter how he gets there. whether thats with the broncos or a team we trade him to he just needs to play qb and stop with the antics. and my message to jay cutler would go as follows: youre a millionaire who plays a game for a living. i’m a plumber and i absolutely work my butt off long hours everyday and provide something that people cannot live without. and you make more in one day than i make in a year. throwing a ball. hell my feelings should be hurt. but thats a fact i’m cool with; i’m sure this blog is full of hard working people like me, and i gotta say its hard for us to feel sorry for you man. get over your hurt feelings then get out there and play football and all will be well. i’m sure of it.
this whole josh verse jay mess is starting to remind me of when i was in grade school and two kids would get in a fight in the school yard and just yell at each other and stick their tongues out…… we need players, coaches and owners who are men, not children….maybe that’s what turned shanny’s hair white…a bunch of spoiled rich kids all wanting their own way throwing temper tantrums
It seriously pains me to go on this site and read some of these comments. Are you guys for real? Poor Jay? We should cater to Jay? Take a freakin hike. Jay is a baby period. His blanket got canned so hes going to cry for awhile now. What a leader/example he is to his teamates. Trade him and Shef to the Lions, the Lions will send Shef and there #1 pick to the Browns and the Browns can send us there #1 and Brady Quinn. We trade a loser for a leader with heart. Sounds like a pretty good trade for all teams if you ask me….
broncolessinseattle…Great post. Every fan should read it.
Thanks G funk it’s good to see your still around.
louisianabroncofan, Great post, I agree with ya and I’ve said it before, Cutler needs to climb off His Cross and build a bridge out of it and show up for The TEAM. If not He may not be the starter this year.
Or like West Coast said we could have The Mighty Quinn on our side!
bottom line is Jay get to work.

besides all this Cutler rap???? what’s a good cajun restaurant in Denver???? punches n bunches
broncomaniac4life, I don’t think you will find true Creole in Denver but there is a couple of good ones on town that will do.
Try Gumbo’s 1530 16th St (720) 956-1490 give the etouffee a shot, very good.
or Bayou Bob’s1635 Glenarm Pl, Denver – (303) 573-6828 it will be busy but good and you can get a fried pickle.
also Lucile’s Creole Cafe on 275 S Logan St, Denver – (303) 282-6258 is pretty good
I’m a Colorado native but I use to date a Creole woman who could cook like no one else and I fell in love with the food.
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
yo thanks a lot monodono!! I heard papadeaux (sp?) is pretty good. I’m not a CO native, but DIE HARD broncos fan for 27 years. Seen some drama, but this CryBaby Cutler thing might take the cracker jack prize. Not sure what’s going to happen. From news+radio+blog sites seems like that Brady Quinn+draft picks is the best deal. what you think ’bout that? I don’t know much ’bout Simms, but he’s got great blood lines, did awesome in Texas+has a little experience. Give the kid a shot. am I right or am I right? If the RB’s stay healthy (should start Hillis+Arrington+draft Gartrell Johnson)+Defense improves (how much worse can they get?!)+Prater kickes a few under 50 yards….Simms will only need to manage the game. Our OL will keep his jersey clean. No joke ’bout that. keep it real, broncos country. Punches n Bunches
yo peterg. I would say I’m tempermental (maybe even hot-tempered), but not a lunatic. McD is ’bout as qualified as Reeves+Shanny was when they got hired here. bowlen seems to like young, 30ish offense minded coaches who come from strong orgs (Cowboys+49ers). Cutler demands respect? every player demands respect. I’m sure every player knows he could be on the chopp’n block. I think CryBaby Cutler is being waaaay to sensitive. I hope I’m wrong ’bout him, but it’s unlikely. If you are such a Cutler fan then follow whatever team he gets traded to. You’re not a Broncos fan. End of discussion. Punches n Bunches
Joe Theismann’s Thoughts About McJaygate
Broncoland, The Denver Post writes, is divided. Half is “irked at the audacity” of new coach Josh McDaniels, while the other is “infuriated” with how quarterback Jay Cutler commented that he felt betrayed when the notion that he could be traded surfaced. Former Washington quarterback Joe Theismann likes Cutler’s “moxie” but asks him to consider 1981, the year before Washington won the Super Bowl, when the team drafted quarterback Tom Flick in the fourth round. “How ticked do you think I was? What I did, instead of getting upset with management, I worked harder. I worked longer. I made absolutely sure who the starting quarterback was going to be in Washington. I would like to see Jay Cutler, instead of focusing on rhetoric, go to work, improve his set of skills and become a better football player. Because he’s not going anywhere.”
PETERG: Coach is the boss buddy. So deal with it. Chew your food and try and get some sleep. You sound tired and crabby.
make sure you keep your mouth closed when you chew your food. Ha Ha…keep it real, orange and blue. last time we changed our uniforms didn’t we go to the Big Dance?! hmmm? I like the original uni’s better anyway. I agree w/Joey T (did I just say that….bad…bad days are coming) that Cutler needs to Knuckle Up+win back this team….Punches n Bunches
If Shanahan, Bowlen, Cook, Cutler, and McD all went to a Karaoke Bar, is this what each of them would sing?
Shanahan – “Who’s Sorry Now?”
Bowlen – “I Don’t Remember”
Cook – “For The Love Of Money”
Cutler – “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”
McD – “Lose Yourself”
good one Music, I thought that was funny, especially the Bone Thugs song
I love Dumervil’s comment that the D is going to be NASTY! Get your POPCORN ready!
I’m wearing my orange replica Champ Bailey jersey right now and it looks awesome! Yes, we should change our jerseys back to orange. It’s a step in the right direction!
How does fait happen? Bledsoe goes down, Brady steps in. What about Elway telling baltimore no way and ends up in Denver. Who is to say that if we get a guy like Stafford he can’t be the true diamond in the rough. And don’t give me that he is a rookie stuff….look at what Matt Ryan and Flacco did this season. The only reason why I don’t mention this aspect of it is that I thought If McD was smart he would find away to get rid of Cutler despite who he brought in. Cutler makes some commen mistakes as a QB and needs a little tweeking. He has 2 things going for him competitvness and arm strength. But Cutler will not listen to any one, especially McD. Therefore he will continue to hurt the team by making these same mistakes. I have pointed out his obvious room for improvement in prior blogs. McD also needs positve leadership from the qb position, not arrogant leadership wich Cutler displays. I will tell you guys now so that you can know I know what I am talking about. Check this out. Wesley Woodyard is the most underated L.B. in the game!!! If I were McD I would also dump D.J. Williams and nate webster. I watched them over commit on the run and miss tackles all season…but not woodyard. He would break in the backfield and if he just got a finger on you ..down you went. Loved his fire and swag. I go 3/4 my linebackers would be woodyard and winborn with davis or boss bailey. Thanks west coast..I appreciate that..makes me feel like all this is worth my time. Last I have been a fan since 1978 and I know Cutler is not the chosen one. BRING ON THE CHOSEN ONE!!
will all the Cutler fans jump ship and dump the Broncos for the new team Cutler goes to??? if he’s traded. go ahead. All the players who are in OTAs right now+gett’n ready to play ball is representing the team great. Those players show legit work ethic+committment to improve on the past 3 years of mediocrity. I’m pretty sure I don’t see Cutler there. I’m glad he has a strong fan base. I’m also sure that Cutler does not want to play in Denver. Cut that Cancer out. McD made some bonehead rookie mistakes by not rapp’n w/Cutler before he went after Cassel. Time to get over it. Work hard in OTAs+ mini-camp+pre-season so the Broncos can be successfull in ’09. Maybe we don’t need to draft Rajii…I heard Powell’s rehab went great. hardcore Defense all the way!!!!!!! Bring back the vertical socks!!! Punches n Bunches
i doubt it has anything to do with being on the trading block…its gotta be about money and the trade talks were just the catalyst…period…”so how many teams want me?? what are those teams willing to shell out for me?? hmmm…maybe i can use that as leverage for more $$”….sucks but its prolly more valid than the crybaby “they wanna trade me” angle…at this point who really cares anyways…if mcd can make someone out of noone…imagine what he can do with a quinn or someone whos had at least a few seasons of cultivating…dont get me wrong…its not my favorite direction..and i love JC…but dang…im sick of hearing/watching/talking/reading about this…we got a super bowl to win…
I think to solve this whole McDaniels/Cutler saga, that both of them should admit it was handled wrong. Then the broncos should sit down with Cutler and Bus Cook and tell Cutler how much he is important to the team for 2009 and beyond that they tell him they want to sign him for a longterm deal to prove they want him there, and even to show how much they want him to include a no-trade clause in Cutler’s contract to show how much they believe he is the cog in this team’s engine to keep things together. Also I think someone like Champ Bailey or Dawkins should talk to Cutler and let him know this is a business and the office staff Bowlen most likely are here to make money and championships make money. Cutler has actually lost more games in his career so far then he has won! He needs to grow up and maybe some of his teammates should sit down and talk to him.
lets just sign jay cutler…the body builder…just change the team photo…
This should give some people something to think and talk about.
