It’s called the offseason. After all, the Broncos aren’t holding practices or playing games on Sundays.
But as Daniel Graham said last Friday at a community event, “What offseason?”
With the offseason conditioning program set to kickoff Monday, March 16 at Dove Valley, a number of guys are already back in town to get ready. Sure, many of them enjoyed traveling around the country and relaxing, but even then, most of them have been working out to stay in shape so that they can hit the ground running once the team reconvenes.
This morning, there were several players in the locker room and training room at Dove Valley. Boss Bailey, Peyton Hillis, Kory Lichtensteiger, Tyler Polumbus, Carlton Powell and Ryan Torain were all at the facility.
Bailey started six games for the Broncos in 2008 before a knee injury against the Patriots resulted in his being placed on injured reserve. Now he’s working his way back from the injury and trying to get back to 100 percent health.
Hillis also finished the season on injured reserve, but not before playing in 12 games, starting three at fullback and three at running back. He finished the season with 68 carries for 343 yards and five scores, earning Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week and FedEx Ground Player of the Week honors during his rookie campaign.
“I’m really excited,” Hillis said. “My leg is healing up really good, and they think I should be 100 percent healthy here in about a month. I’m just really looking forward to the opportunity to see what the new coaches are all about, play for them and do the best I can.”
Lichtensteiger played in all 16 games with the bulk of his action on special teams, but he often lined up as an H-Back in the jumbo package on offense. With his rookie year under his belt, the Bowling Green State alum has been spending time with family and friends, and as he put it, “recharging the batteries.”
“You just kind of get football out of your mind for a little bit, and I think that’s pretty important,” Lichtensteiger said. “You shift gears, do whatever you want to do to relax.”
He has been back to Denver a couple times since season’s end, though he’s back for the first significant amount of time now.
“I’ve been up here a few times to check in with Dennison, talking with trainers and equipment guys,” he said. “I haven’t had a chance to talk with Coach McDaniels yet. I’ve been up there a few times, but he hasn’t been around. He has been busy, which is pretty understandable. I’m looking forward to getting back into the routine, but it’s going to be hard to give up the easy life of doing whatever you want. But I’ll be ready for it.”
Like his fellow rookie offensive lineman, Polumbus saw action in all 16 games in 2008, mostly on special teams. He has been around more often than his teammates however as he is a Denver native. He played his college ball at Colorado after playing for Cherry Creek High School.
He was able to use the offseason to get in some traveling, and most importantly, he took his wife on their honeymoon.
“We didn’t get a chance to do that since we got married right before camp last year, and that was nice,” Polumbus said. “We went down to Riviera Maya in Mexico, and it was awesome — really fun.”
Now that he has wrapped up his travels, Polumbus has been working out and is ready to get back to focusing on football.
“We had a nice little break, but I’m ready to get back with the guys and get into things. It’s always nice to be back with the guys in the locker room and having fun around here.”
Powell spent the entirety of the 2008 season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list after he suffered a torn achilles’ tendon before training camp even started last year.
He was always around Dove Valley throughout 2008, working out and trying to get back into shape, but he wasn’t able to contribue on the field. Now, however, he’s ready.
“I’ve just been preparing in the training room with Greek (Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos) every day,” Powell said. “I’m basically back to 100 percent now, and it feels great. I’m very anxious to get started. The conditioning program starts up Monday, so I want to see where I’m at.”
Powell has been around a lot in the offseason as well, and he has had a chance to visit with all his coaches, and in particular, he got to talk with defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and Head Coach Josh McDaniels.
“I’m definitely ready to get back with the team. We have a lot of new faces, but we’ve got to get together to make things happen.”
As for Torain, his rookie year got off to a rough start when he injured his arm during training camp, forcing him to miss the first seven games. He saw his first action against the Dolphins before earning the start against the Browns the following week. That game started out well for the rookie as he rushed 12 times for 68 yard and a score, but then he suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Like Powell, he has spent much of his time around Dove Valley, working to get back into shape before training camp and the 2009 season.
I can’t make any promises, since there’s no way to know who will be around or when exactly, but I’ll continue to bring updates throughout the week as players arrive for the offseason conditioning program. Once that starts, more players should be around.

boy, this is still going on!!!!! this is how it is without any fat. two people got cross, one or both would not try and talk it out, but they cooled off, and now they are “TALKING”. this is what we wanted and now we have it and you are still pissed. i do not understand. ???!!! Things didnot get finished the first time so they are going to do it again. they are not even going to be ironed out then. this may go on for awhile.
why are we bring up the trade? b/c the person before you did that is why. then you say some thing good or bad about someone and it snowballs from there. this is how fights get started (see mac and jay) we have people talking about each others typing and spelling and it will go on and on. where is all this bull coming from? reread the reports. most of the anomosity, i can’t spell, is starting right here. WE THE PEOPLE don’t KNOW anything. the reporters don’t know anything. five people were on the phone and they are the only ones who KNOW SOMETHING. this is like two young kids in the playground the only reason they really fought was the others around them were yelling and egging it on. they are heading to a point where THEY CAN’T BACK DOWN NOW- to many people watching
now we are at a point that if we win a game is it MAC OR JAY. and God knows what will happen when we don’t win.
all we should be saying at this point in time is; i hope they work it out soon b/c the season is not that far away. LET IT DIE.
why don’t McD and Cutler have a texas death match. Whoever wins gets to have his way. This is gett’n way outa hand. Sounds like 2 girls fighting over “who’s the prettiest”. Ridiculous. Everyone will know where crybaby cutler stands if he decides to skip OTA’s. Even though OTAs are voluntary it will say tons about how Cutler feels about the team if he does a no show. I know if we trade Cutler we’re in big trouble. I’m not a fan of Cutler. I’m a DIE HARD fan of the Broncos. Not sure what Simms can do. Has he ever played a full season? Didn’t he almost die w/Tampa Bay?? I say bring back the Snake or BVP!!!!! punches n bunches
All this crap about Cutler is total BS. Both the organization and Cutler either need to figure this out or do what they said they wouldn’t and trade him. I really hope that Cutler grows up and realizes that in this league anyone at anytime is replaceable. McDaniels needs to realize that if he and Culter can mend their relationship they would compliment each other very well. They both seem like aggressive people..wanting to win and going after what they want. A few notes, if we get rid of Cutler you can say good bye to our bootleg success, if McDaniels hasn’t already thrown those plays out of the playbook. I heard talks of Detroit maybe trading a 2nd round draft pick for Cutler. Don’t be stupid Simms isn’t a starter and this year’s draft isn’t a good one for QBs.
I say Cutler play ball, McDaniels don’t get all headstrong and making decisions because you want this to be YOUR team and bring in a bunch of Patriots because that’s what your used to. You’re a Bronco now.
To: brian_schneider, I agree, both sides are acting quite childish, but Jay has the upper hand with argument and fan support, I wouldn’t mind seeing Mcd fired tomorrow and Bowlen hiring Jon Gruden or Mike Shanahhan again, but if Cutler were to leave that would set us back 5-10 years. He’s hands down better than Matt Cassell, better than Matthew Stafford will ever be(so no need to trade), and just better than all other Qbs in the league, except Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, He is the Brett Farve of Denver, McD doesn’t have any credentials, he benefited from a great head coach, like Mangini, Crennell, and Weis, none have had stellar careers so far, so Mcd is much more expendable than Jay. The whole Matt Cassell fits the system and he’s much more comfortable with him is crap, Cutler will fit any system in due time, or how about the coach adjust to the players and see what he can do to make that player better instead of releasing good players and signing players of equal or less value to fit his system, whatever system that is.
The Broncos are not firing anyone….or trading Cutler.
Stop believing everything you read and look at the quotes from Cutler and the Broncos.
All these “sources” claiming there is a huge problem is just media crap. I have read every quote from Jay and Mac and I don’t think this will be a big deal.
Slow time for real news I guess.
Just a thought: Plummer and Shanahan hated eachother and won 13 games in 2005 (I think). Cutler and Mac only need to do their jobs, they don’t have to be buddies.
Adam,
Any chance of putting on a cap ont the amount of words you can type in a reply. Some of these guys just go on and on and on and on if you know what I mean.
Great post about keeping us all updated.
To: brian_schneider:
Sir, I enjoyed your post and agree with much of what you write. However I have to say that I disagree on two points.
Everyone keeps saying this is the Broncos and not the Patriots and that Mac is trying to make this HIS team. Why is that a problem or a surprise? I would argue that it is his team now and, although I don’t like every move he has made, he is not here to run someone else’s team or system. I would be more worried if he was status quo. He IS a Bronco…but the Broncos are VERY different now..
Actually, I guess it was one point I disagree with!
The bootleg is essentially gone in this offense.
I am new to this so bare with me. I heard when bates was fired Cuttler went to Bowen and said trade me. Now with that said I am behind the coach and the owner. word has it Bowen called Jay last week 3 times and he would not return the call,What is up with that if my boss called and I didn’t return the call I would be fired so that takes alot of b*lls to do if you ask me. Jay is a good player sure but face it he throws int’s like nothing and at the worst times like in the buffalo game in the red zone great QB’s don’t do that and his record is 17 and 20 in 3 years sure he made the pro bowl but win’s and losses is what counts. So Jay swallow your pride and get to work and make the playoffs then if the talk of trade comes I will be on your side till then stop comparing yourself to Elway and be Jay and earn the right to be considered in the same breath as Elway. As for all you haters of McD lets give him the benefit of the dought .
broncogodd:
For a first timer, you sure nailed it. There are some poinst that cannot be argued there and it is relayed logically and without blind passion for/against the Broncos….good on ya sir/madam!
Woody Paige says it right on the money.
In his career, in regular-season games in which the opposing team scored 30 points or more, his record is 6-22. His name? Peyton Manning. Not even Manning, a three-time MVP, could save the Colts when his defense was atrocious.
In his career, in regular-season games in which the opposing teams scored 30 points or more, his record was 6-31. John Elway.
Not even Elway, who finished as the greatest comeback quarterback in NFL history, could save the Broncos when his defense was awful. In two separate seasons, the Broncos allowed 30 points or more five times when Elway played. They lost all 10 games.
Trade Jay? No way.
Nobody contemplated trading Manning, Elway, Tom Brady, Troy Aikman or Joe Montana early in their careers, and look what happened to them. The Atlanta Falcons traded Brett Favre after his first year, and look what happened. The Tampa Bay Bucs traded Steve Young after his second NFL season, and look what happened.
Don’t let it happen. Trade Jay, and the deal will bite the Broncos in the business end for years to come.
brain_schneider: i disagree with you when you said any player at any time is replaceable. If you look at every team (except the lions) there are at least 2 guys on the team that are irreplaceble, for the Broncos its Cutler, Clady, Champ. To lose any of those guys right now would be a huge setback.
I side with Cutler on the issue and i will to the end. Who was it that said to his teammates after they were all shocked to see Shanny go, ‘hey guys, this guy is the real deal’. Now, im not saying the head coach shouldnt be able to stir things up.. NOT when your a rookie head coach and have proven absolutely NOTHING in the league yet.
Cutler isn’t the 2nd coming of Elway. He’s the 2nd coming of Jeff George. Trade him. Run w/simms for 1-2 years or get a decent FA QB. If Simms (BIG “if”) has a decent ground game (Hillis+JJ Arrington), OL will be Solid if not Fantastic, if the D can be in the top 15 in the league…Simms can handle dump off passes+manage the game…He can’t do any worse. If Simms is the QB I’d be happy for 9-7. I know it’ll take time for all the new pieces to jell, but I hope we make a serious push around Turkey Day. I can’t ‘member the last time the Broncos were 4-0 in Dec…end of discussion. punches n bunches.
9-7? then why the hell did we fire Shanahan??? nuff said
shanny was let go b/c he could not go 9-7 when we were 8-5.
I believe! The Broncos can be excellent this year. PLease everyone relax, this team is going to be awesome regardless of McD or Jay C. This is a team sport and I think the pieces are coming together. I can’t wait to see watch what the Broncos do this year! It is going to be fun, non-believers need to zip it!
lynch4prez id have to disagree bout replaceable players vikings could use a qb so they could trade petterson for a qb id give up champ for a great d line man u figure if we didnt have champ we wouldnt have 80% of balls thrown away from him so we could have 2 decent corners vikings could use taylor i d k if u need other possitions bad enough every player is free game
I really think this whole thing just got blown out of proportion by the moron sportscasters. But I think if everything does work itself out (which I believe it will). Jay Cutler is going to come out and rip it up next year. He will think he has something to prove. And in turn they will have one hell of a season. So maybe this whole deal has been a good thing.
yo-I’ve done more than my fair share of Cutler bashing, but if he does come back+rips it up+has a great year+most Importantly gets us into the play-offs…I’ll be the 1st to eat my words….
broncomaniac4life – I honestly can’t believe you are advocating to trade Cutler and think he’s like Jeff George! In REALITY, which you seem to have taken a temporary trip away from, it’s too soon to tell how Jay is going to be.
Elway didn’t win a playoff game until his fourth season, Manning his sixth. Cutler will be in his fourth season in 2009. And you want to TRADE HIM?!?
To prove my point, I copy and paste a portion from a Woody Paige article.
In his career, in regular-season games in which the opposing team scored 30 points or more, his record is 6-22. His name? Peyton Manning.
Not even Manning, a three-time MVP, could save the Colts when his defense was atrocious.

Trade Jay? No way. Give him a defense, and Jay Cutler will be one of the premier quarterbacks for a long time in the NFL. Any coach, columnist, commentator or football cynic who suggests otherwise doesn’t get it.

I understand the Cutler love around this place, but I think it’s more of a crush than real love. He’s got some work to do if he wants to be worth the attention he’s getting right now. There just isn’t any evidence that he’s going to be an amazing QB in this league. Only AMAZING talent is untradable. He’s clearly got potential, but unrealized potential doesn’t mean much.
Red zone offense, interceptions, 3rd down percentages, and attitude all need work. I can accept the idea that he’ll get there if he puts in the work, but do you guys remember when he was drafted? Remember all the talk about his footwork and throwing off of his back foot? That stuff hasn’t improved and we don’t have the Vandy o-line. We had a very solid o-line and he still tends toward bad throwing mechanics.
However, WINNING is the key and he just hasn’t done enough of it. I was glad Jake got benched and Jay got put in because I wanted him to get some experience that year to be prepared for the next season. It didn’t help. For all of the great things we’ve heard about Elway, there was only one thing that separated him from everyone else – the 4th quarter. He had a rocket arm, but his passer rating wasn’t ever great. He had an uncanny ability to win the game. No situation was too big for him. Cutler finds out he might be traded and all the sudden the sky is falling. Cutler finds out the coach is fired, and he’s disappointed. What was he disappointed in? The team’s expectations exceeding Shanahan’s recent production?
If Cutler doesn’t want to be traded he needs to perform. He’s plenty exciting, but that’s not the key. Win some games. Win some games we shouldn’t win by driving the field. Overcome some bad conditions and look like the best player on the field. Otherwise, he needs to take his medicine (not a diabetes reference) and quit whining.
BTW, who of us thought he’d fizzle out down the stretch this year? We found out a year ago that he’s battling Diabetes and that explained some of the weakness of the end of his second year, but there’s no justification for completely falling apart this year, is there?
As bad as our defense is, if we score when we have the ball, the games are much closer, right?
God, the game that sticks in my head the most is the Miami game. What a horrible display. At home! Don’t whine about anything until you fix that $hht!
dare2bme – Cutler needs to perform? He needs to win games? How many records did he set last year?
As I stated before Elway didn’t win a playoff game until his fourth season, Manning his sixth. This is just Cutler’s 3rd full year coming up!
In his career, in regular-season games in which the opposing team scored 30 points or more, Peyton Manning’s record is 6-22 and Elways’s record was 6-31.
That should put things into perspective for you.
A defense ranked near the middle of the pack is all we’ll need to make the playoffs and do some damage then you’ll be eating your words. And as a true bronco fan, I’m sure you’ll be happy too.

and, aSharpeIdea_84,
great post, but one correcting is, elways coach did try to trade him away early in his career, but a certain man made a smart move in firing the coach. Lets hope history repeats itself…… and then jay stays and wins us back to back super bowls some time within the next 5 years at least.
Thats what I am saying jazzyfrizzle! Cutler isn’t going anywhere and if he is going to want anyone interested in him 3 years from now. He is going to have to kill it out there. I guarantee he rips it up!!!
i am just sick of being depressed the last week so I am trying to make a crappy situation a little more positive.
I think, before anyone blames the defense for the loss because of how many points we gave up, they should look at the box score, or better yet, the game for each loss.
Yes, the defense played poorly and didn’t rescue Cutler as often as we’d like, but it was NOT the only problem.
If you’d like, assume that the other team would score the same amount if Cutler hadn’t turned it over at all, but we would have scored on those possessions (both are extreme so they should balance out), you’d still find that Cutler’s turnovers were just as responsible for 6 of 8 losses as the defense was. Hell, or just look at whether he threw more TD’s or more Picks in any particular game. Offenses can’t overcome bad defense, but a defense can’t overcome turnovers either.
Look, I like Cutler, was glad we drafted him and I want him to continue to improve as a Bronco, but he’s NOT as good as he or this message board make him out to be. Could he be? Sure, but he isn’t there yet, and is therefore still a limited value asset.
And to the comment that he’s doing better than 30 QB’s in the league:
QB Rating 86.0, #16 of 32 teams.
INT’s 17 #2 of 32 teams. The only one better at throwing the pick? You guessed it – Brett Favre
All of that with a tremendous O-line that only gave up 11 sacks.
aSharpeIdea_…Wrong dude. Elway was almost traded early in his career. Tommy Maddox ring a bell. Except he didnt cry like Jay. Real leadership from our QB obviously isnt in him. If he doesnt show up next week he will be traded before the draft. Remember you heard it hear first. Coach Mac has proven he can win with a backup QB that can manage the game. Give me someone who has leadership and desire before someone who has all the ability but a spoiled brat. 2 words….Jeff George/
dare2bme …Couldnt have said it better. Great posts
Well said jazzyfrizzle ….obviously Jay feels a strong sense of dedication towards the Broncos organization. The perception that just because he speaks up, he’s deemed a whiner, holds no weight. If you don’t think that a quarterback’s success can be influenced by the organization that chooses him, the coaching staff he plays for, the offensive system he’s asked to execute and the players around him, you haven’t been paying close attention to the NFL. He’s the best we’ve had around here for quite sometime, and has a great supporting cast on offense. DEFENSE has been our kryptonite !! For those that want to continue slander Cutler go ahead if it makes you feel bigger. Just don’t blame him for trying to have a say in how his career unfolds.
GO BRONCOS !!!
I have said that many times the problem with Cutler is his INTS, and now we see he is a cry baby, with the offence he has around him he should perform much much better than he has.
Great post Shannyfan!
One quick point; even though I’m glad Woody printed it to make a valid argument, it looks like he got his information off the Mile High Report website. Now that is a GREAT source, finally!
By the way, I’ll take Cutler over anyone out there. We’re not close to 8-8 last year without him.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
look i know we all are still upset about the whole Cutler thing..So i looked into it since the day it happened..And the info i found out did not make me happy..As im sure it wont make some of you also. Many asked the question why did the pats trade cassle off for a 2and rounder blah blah and not jump on our 1st round pick opportunity…Its because they did things to fast. Josh did take calls..He considered..And WAS going to do the trade..It was reported Josh called the traders back..*(( not sure which team)) to complete the deal for cassle. The only problem was, byt the time josh decided the pats already gave their word and were finalizing the trade between them and scot peoli..**chiefs** When i found this out i was pretty upset….I would of hated having cassle as our QB..
BUT ONE THING! I am starting to get fed up with this Cutler thing now too..And i support cutler and like the guy. But this is enough. Our team is in such a mess..Our star QB is pissed and our star WR is messing up..Becuase of him messing up i wouldnt be surprised if McDenver tried trading him off too..Which would really Suck…But i will support this team through anything..I just hope this whole mess cleans up quickly..Sorry for the long post.
Go Broncos!!!!!
We have been looking for the next John Elway now that we think we have it we try to trade him, can anybody explain what was the gm ( Xanders) and couch McDanny thinking?
Go Broncos ’09
with Jay Cutler
West Coast – Did you read my post? I said nothing about Elway almost getting traded, and yes that is true. My point was anybody comparing Cutler to George needs to get a clue because, again if you read my post, it’s too early to tell yet.
Elway didn’t win 1st playoff game until his 4th year, Manning his 6th. This will technically be Cutler’s 3rd full year. Give him, along with McD, some TIME!
I’ll tell you what. I’ll take Cutler in Fantasy and you take Cassel and then we’ll compare in December.
aSharpeIdea_84: Couldnt of said it any better. everybody looks right away and says what has cutler done for the broncos besides a 17-20 record. i only got four words for them HE CAN PLAY DEFENSE! any other quarterback who had a defense that a good day was with only giving up 30 points wouldnt nearly have the record cutler does. Cutler has carried this team.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!
I just keep wondering about Bowlen. Do you guys think he regrets his decision at all? Or do you think he still stands behind his decision? I think McD has made some really good decisions. But I havent been real impressed with this whole mcjaygate thing. I guess all that really matters is if they win games next season.
bronco-blaze, if you found out the truth than pat b ok’ed the trade. he owns the team, if he wanted to trade jay than he must have his reasons.
dare2bme. you have ‘food for thought’ our redzone sucked, just how bad %wise i don’t know.
the D has taken the blame for the bad 2008 season. not one player that i know of is pointing a finger. not one has bitched about the ints or the fumbles that the O gave away, or the 3 and outs that put them right back on the field. I did not here anything from the O about the D either. only the lowly fans(the ones that are name calling) are trying to drive a wedge in between them. we could have been 4-12.
jay is not elway. let him be jay. john did have a chip on his shoulder though when he was drafted “i will not play in for the colts” but he was the top of his class.
let the trade thing rest. it didnot happen.
couple things here:
1. we will never find the next John Elway, there will never be another John Elway, just like there will never be another Montana, Young, Aikman, Marino, Farve or any of those guys.. i always hated the whole ‘looking for the next Elway thing.
2. Cutlers red-zone picks work both ways.. near the middle to end of the year we had no running game inside the 20 and no one who could pound the ball once Hillis was gone, teams knew we were going to pass inside the 20 and with less field and a defence to defend the pass.. well i hope you get my point.
shannyfan- no Bowlen knew this would happen when he interviewed the coach. IMO they talked about how the changes would come about right down to the probable cuts he would make. you can bet Bowlen is backing MacD on everything.
Besides the Cutler crap, heres something to think about:
The Broncos plan on traveling to Ohio State for an individual workout with CB Malcolm Jenkins next Friday.
Denver is a lock to go defense early in the draft, and Jenkins would bring much needed youth to the secondary.
Source: SportingNews.com
Jenkins would be a pretty good pick, he would probably play FS as a centerfielder type since his 40 wasnt too fast at the combine.. he could be a big play maker at that spot
KEEP CUTLER HE IS THE FUTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks bronco#80,
You dont know how happy I am to hear something else other than the Cutler-McDaniels saga..
I think Jenkins would be awesome. His combine numbers would probably bring him down the draft. So thats a good thing (for teams needing DB Help!). I noticed some mock drafts have placed him out of the top 15. Could be a blessing.
Talk about something other then Cutler, nothing can be done about it, we just have to wait and see. Change the subject….It is really getting old
nfl network said raji will have a work out with denver.
I’ll change the subject..who we going after in the draft?
yo asharpeIdea..you made a lot of good points. I agree w/the Elway+Manning spiel. You’re right, but…I’m just sick of these pre-madonna players in this league. I came to this country when I was 7. Lived in Philly. I couldn’t speak english. I figure the only way I could relate to any of the ‘hood kids was to learn ’bout sports. I fell in love w/football+boxing. The 1st NFL game I saw was the Broncos (they lost that game. Can’t ‘member who they played). I loved Riley Odoms+Tom Jackson. I”m 39. Been a DIE HARD BroncoManiac for 32 years, and will never give up on orange/blue. I live in CO now, but lived in many places when I was younger+always fought for the Broncos. I don’t think Culter appreciates the great team he’s play’n for. I think he thinks too highly of himself (“I have a better am then Elway..blahblahblah”). He’s proven he has a cannon arm+great athlete. He’s proven that he can compete in the NFL w/type 2 diabetes. I think that’s great. He has also proven to be spoiled+arrogant. I hope I’m wrong ’bout him. I hope you all are right. This city deserves a winner. It’s been a decade since we were Winners. I blame most of our mediocrity on the D+defensive coaches. But…if that blame gets dumped on the D…when we start winning I hope everyone gives that D the credit….appreciate your comments, but what will you say if he doesn’t show up for OTA’s Monday??? keep it real. punches n bunches
I think it’s a concensus that our 2nd round pick should be a DB. I’d rather go Safety (groom that kid under Dawkins)+pick up either Patrick Chung or Louis Delmas…but…if we go cornerback I’d like to take Byrd (from Oregon) or Vontae Davis (IL..he might go 1st rd) or Alphonso Smith=Wake forrest (he reminds me of D-Will). All in agreement that the soap opera b/n McD+Cutler has been rapped ’bout ’nuff times….let’s talk ’bout the draft…keep it real. punches n bunches..
broncomaniac4life – I hear you man. I’ve been a broncomaniac since 1974 or so.
I think you’re right about Jay should be grateful to be here. In his phone interview on the day this story broke, he said he wanted to be here. I think Monday will prove if he’s sincere or not and hopefully he will do what he wants to do and fire Bus Cook. Cook is known for doing this sort of thing with many other players. He is a drama King.
If Jay doesn’t show and they seriously look at trading Jay, then the only trade at this point that makes any kind of sense is offer Cutler and our #12 to Cleveland for Brady Quinn, their #5, and #35.
Quinn is a guy who has a great attitude and is a natural leader. He’s got a lot of potential and I think Cleveland missed the boat by not starting him as a rookie. He would be so much better right now.
The Broncos would also be able to get a monster DL with the #5, and either a starting
LB or CB with #35.
Cutler needs to fire Bus Cook and show up Monday ready to be a leader or else he could find himself playing for a worse team.
“Cutler needs to fire Bus Cook and show up Monday ready to be a leader or else he could find himself playing for a worse team.” THAT’S A SHARP IDEA.
Who’s happy The Broncos didn’t sign Haynesworth?
Redskins DT Haynesworth indicted on two misdemeanor traffic charges
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been indicted on two misdemeanor traffic charges after being involved in a crash that seriously injured another driver.
District Attorney Kim Helper of Williamson County said Thursday that Haynesworth was indicted Monday on charges of reckless driving and having expired registration.
Haynesworth, a former Tennessee Titan who signed with the Redskins last month, was released on $1,000 bond after surrendering Wednesday. Maximum punishment is six months in jail and a $500 fine on the reckless-driving charge and 30 days in jail and a $50 fine for the other charge.
The charges come from a Dec. 13 incident in which Haynesworth tried to pass another driver, who crashed into a concrete median.
Chad Speck, Haynesworth’s agent, didn’t immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment. He previously said that his client pulled over after the accident, called police and did not leave until cleared by an officer.
Haynesworth is scheduled for arraignment March 30 in Williamson Circuit Court in Franklin, just south of Nashville. Helper would not speculate how long the case would be in the courts.
After the accident, on Interstate 65 south of Nashville, Corey Edmonson needed a wheelchair or walker to move, said his attorney, Jon Perry.
“I am not surprised at all by the indictment,” Perry said Thursday. “This accident could have very easily killed Corey.”
Haynesworth, an All-Pro, signed a $100 million, seven-year contract with the Redskins on Feb. 27 just a few hours after the start of free agency.
With the Titans last season, Haynesworth had a career-high 8.5 sacks. He has 24 sacks in seven NFL seasons since the Titans drafted him in the first round out of the University of Tennessee in 2002.
In 2006, Haynesworth was suspended for five games for swiping his cleated foot over Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode ’s face. It was the league’s longest suspension for an on-field act.
Last year, in another case, Haynesworth agreed to 30 days’ probation to divert a ticket for driving 103 mph in a 70-mph zone.
