Dove Valley Update: March 10

March 10th, 2009 - 2:53pm by Adam Zinser

It’s called the offseason. After all, the Broncos aren’t holding practices or playing games on Sundays.

But as Daniel Graham said last Friday at a community event, “What offseason?”

With the offseason conditioning program set to kickoff Monday, March 16 at Dove Valley, a number of guys are already back in town to get ready. Sure, many of them enjoyed traveling around the country and relaxing, but even then, most of them have been working out to stay in shape so that they can hit the ground running once the team reconvenes.

This morning, there were several players in the locker room and training room at Dove Valley. Boss Bailey, Peyton Hillis, Kory Lichtensteiger, Tyler Polumbus, Carlton Powell and Ryan Torain were all at the facility.

Bailey started six games for the Broncos in 2008 before a knee injury against the Patriots resulted in his being placed on injured reserve. Now he’s working his way back from the injury and trying to get back to 100 percent health.

Hillis also finished the season on injured reserve, but not before playing in 12 games, starting three at fullback and three at running back. He finished the season with 68 carries for 343 yards and five scores, earning Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week and FedEx Ground Player of the Week honors during his rookie campaign.

“I’m really excited,” Hillis said. “My leg is healing up really good, and they think I should be 100 percent healthy here in about a month. I’m just really looking forward to the opportunity to see what the new coaches are all about, play for them and do the best I can.”

Lichtensteiger played in all 16 games with the bulk of his action on special teams, but he often lined up as an H-Back in the jumbo package on offense. With his rookie year under his belt, the Bowling Green State alum has been spending time with family and friends, and as he put it, “recharging the batteries.”

“You just kind of get football out of your mind for a little bit, and I think that’s pretty important,” Lichtensteiger said. “You shift gears, do whatever you want to do to relax.”

He has been back to Denver a couple times since season’s end, though he’s back for the first significant amount of time now.

“I’ve been up here a few times to check in with Dennison, talking with trainers and equipment guys,” he said. “I haven’t had a chance to talk with Coach McDaniels yet. I’ve been up there a few times, but he hasn’t been around. He has been busy, which is pretty understandable. I’m looking forward to getting back into the routine, but it’s going to be hard to give up the easy life of doing whatever you want. But I’ll be ready for it.”

Like his fellow rookie offensive lineman, Polumbus saw action in all 16 games in 2008, mostly on special teams. He has been around more often than his teammates however as he is a Denver native. He played his college ball at Colorado after playing for Cherry Creek High School.

He was able to use the offseason to get in some traveling, and most importantly, he took his wife on their honeymoon.

“We didn’t get a chance to do that since we got married right before camp last year, and that was nice,” Polumbus said. “We went down to Riviera Maya in Mexico, and it was awesome — really fun.”

Now that he has wrapped up his travels, Polumbus has been working out and is ready to get back to focusing on football.

“We had a nice little break, but I’m ready to get back with the guys and get into things. It’s always nice to be back with the guys in the locker room and having fun around here.”

Powell spent the entirety of the 2008 season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list after he suffered a torn achilles’ tendon before training camp even started last year.

He was always around Dove Valley throughout 2008, working out and trying to get back into shape, but he wasn’t able to contribue on the field. Now, however, he’s ready.

“I’ve just been preparing in the training room with Greek (Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos) every day,” Powell said. “I’m basically back to 100 percent now, and it feels great. I’m very anxious to get started. The conditioning program starts up Monday, so I want to see where I’m at.”

Powell has been around a lot in the offseason as well, and he has had a chance to visit with all his coaches, and in particular, he got to talk with defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and Head Coach Josh McDaniels.

“I’m definitely ready to get back with the team. We have a lot of new faces, but we’ve got to get together to make things happen.”

As for Torain, his rookie year got off to a rough start when he injured his arm during training camp, forcing him to miss the first seven games. He saw his first action against the Dolphins before earning the start against the Browns the following week. That game started out well for the rookie as he rushed 12 times for 68 yard and a score, but then he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Like Powell, he has spent much of his time around Dove Valley, working to get back into shape before training camp and the 2009 season.

I can’t make any promises, since there’s no way to know who will be around or when exactly, but I’ll continue to bring updates throughout the week as players arrive for the offseason conditioning program. Once that starts, more players should be around.

Awesome post Adam. Love the update on the players. I cant wait for this season to start. ,,,West Coast

  2. 203killinspree says:

How is Torain coming along? Will he be 100% or close to it at training camp?

  3. AsianOrange says:

Glad to hear everybody is doing well especially Hillis and Torain getting well.

  4. Adam Zinser says:

    203killinspree –

I can’t speculate as to how he is coming along — I’m no trainer. But he has said he’s doing well.

  5. broncoryan says:

Great post, hopefully all of these guys can make an impact. I may be a little too optimistic but I think our D will be worlds better then before. And all around there is just a new attitude at Dove Valley im sure
    ..

    GO BRONCOS!

  6. meisner says:

we’re gonna need Boss in this new defense, and HIllis and Torain are the broncos future

  7. broncos20 says:

    Thanks Adam for the insight,

Been unsettling this offseason thinking where the players might be going.

Any word on Brandon Marshall’s case?

  8. denverbro89 says:

Thanks Adam, I hope all these guys stay on the roster

  9. BRONCOHOLICO says:

You guys hear the story on CBS4Denver.com? They are following up on the conference call between Josh McD, Bowlen & Cutler today.

Seems a little vague, but here’s hoping, right?? :S

  10. dbroncos6 says:

word is that the relationship between cuter and the broncos has gone from “bad to worse”

  11. golfercmo says:

this is CRAZY!! franchise qb’s don’t grow on trees in the NFL… if you guys think that the backlash from this won’t destroy the fan base much less the team you’re NUTS… i’ve been a die hard broncos fan for life… if you trade cutler i’m DONE with the broncos… not because he’s the next elway (which i do believe he is) but because an organization that has run itself with such class and professionalism for so long will have turned completely WRONG over night with the way this is getting treated. it’s just crazy!

  12. broncos14441 says:

This is all Cutler’s fault. He asked for a trade when Rick Dennisen was fired and the broncos were considering fulfilling his wishes. He is a whiny little baby. This is starting to get annoying.

  13. golfercmo says:

how do you know he asked for a trade when dennisen was fired? I haven’t read that anywhere…

  14. golfercmo says:

HEY YEAH HE WASN’T FIRED lol bates was!! and he wants cutler to realize its all for the good of the team… maybe mcdaniels should realize the best thing for the team is SIT ON HIS PRIDE and massage his star QB… which i don’t think he can do… what is this going to say to the REST of the team that he can’t get a long with the star qb who the rest of the team respects… unless they don’t… but i feel like they probably do, good luck with THAT ONE. if he’s telling the star qb he’s just a commodity, what is the average player going to think THEY are to the new coach?

  15. imready says:

I don’t see that either coach McDaniels or Jay Cutler are willing to put this behind them and move on. For two guys that profess that the Broncos are the most important thing in their lives, they sure aren’t putting the team first. I’m pretty disgusted with both of them.
Adam, did Carlton Powell play any nose tackle in school? I know he had the reputation of being a great run stopper which to me might make him a candidate for nose tackle. I was very disappointed when he got hurt .
Glad to hear most of the guys are getting healthy , especially my favorite Bronco ,Payton Hillis. If he hadn’t gotten hurt I think Shanny would still be running the Broncos.

  16. denverbro89 says:

Would be great to see Jarvis Moss perform like a 1st round pick and see the progression of our young player entering their 2nd and 3rd year. Just imagine Woodyard, Crowder, Thomas, Williams, Barrett, and Bell playing at a much higher level.

  17. 47rocksurworld says:

Dennison is back with the team so that makes no sense at all! CBS 4 Denver allegdly broke this story, how would this informtaion get out without one of the five people supposedly in on the conversation talking. After all the mess that has transpired over the last few weeks I would think Mr. Bowlen has this under control. I am sick of this crap Mr. Bowlen step up and end this crap once and for all, you said you took back the team now it is time to show it!

  18. kase78matt says:

adam wats the word on Scheffler bein on the trade block? Rumour?

  19. 6to15for6 says:

I can’t believe Mr. Bowlen hasn’t come out and cleared all of this Cutler/McDaniels crap up. It’s like he is letting this 32 year old run the organization. Like 47rocksurworld said, Mr. Bowlen said he was taking the team back. Right about now would be a good time to prove it. The Broncos had better not trade Cutler and then let Simms take over at QB. McDaniels needs to go and see an eye doctor because I have no idea what on earth he sees in Cassel that Jay Cutler can’t do better. Cassel can barely throw the ball 20 yards. Come on Mr. Bowlen, sign Cutler to a long term contract extension and keep him in Denver for his career. Oh, and remind McDaniels that he is in DENVER, not NEW ENGLAND. Tell him to start acting like it.

  20. jmonk says:

sorry for the spelling errors guys im more then a little irritated at this. ive been a fan my entired life and just had my 1st son and was lookin forward to many years of him watching games with me and now this guy is screwing it up

  21. cutler6rocks says:

go to the denver post and check out what they had to say….they said the conversation ended well with officials answering all of jays questions..nothing about being traded was mentioned…and that the call ended well…cutler was not happy still because he wants a better contract and he is still a little upset…we will just see if he shows up monday for workouts or not!!!!

    STAY POSITIVE!!!

  22. 6to15for6 says:

    Mr. Bowlen,

Why the hell didn’t you sign Steve Spagnuolo to be the coach? There wasn’t anything wrong with our offense, it is the defense that sucks and lost so many games for us. Now the classless, sloppy sweatshirt wearing coach up north’s sidekick thinks that Denver is New England and is trying to get rid of everyone that was part of the offense the finished 2nd in the entire league last year. IF IT’S NOT BROKE, DON”T FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leave the offense alone and fix the crappy defense that hasn’t done anything for 5+ years.

McDaniels is going to end up alienating a LOT of Denver fans with his lame moves and freakin’ practive hasn’t even started yet.

  23. S.D.Bronco30 says:

    READ THIS………..

PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION, you are all doing it again. The report that says “things went from bad to worse” came from Bill Williamson. Have you all not learned that this guy is an idiot. He embellishes things to make them sound worse then they are. Read his article at ESPN.com he sites two “sources” non of which he ever names (very questionable in my opinion) one says things went bad and that cutler is mad and that Jay and the team are further apart now. The second source “with knowledge of the discussion” says it went well and they are NOT further apart now and they discussed things openly. But look at how moron Bill only writes a small paragraph on the good report and the rest of the article on the bad report. This guy likes to create panic and make headlines. Everyone relax. Don’t jump to worse case scenario until we see it for our own eyes. You have to know by now that none of these writers are credible.

  24. DenverDaveinPA says:

Guess we’re left waiting for Monday to come around. If Cutler shows up, hopefully everyone can focus, put this behind them as best as they can, and look forward to 2009. If he doesn’t show up, he’ll get traded. Jets, Lions, or Bucs! We’ll have Simms and/or draft a rookie QB. Wonder what the vets McDaniels brought in will think after he said the plan is “to win right now”?

  25. DenverDaveinPA says:

    well said S.D.Bronco 30!

  26. hrdnokd says:

OK Jay, most of us supported you when this started but it’s time to move on. Put your big boy pants on and let’s get this team headed in the right direction.

  27. shawn723 says:

i know none of u want to hear this and i didnt want to hear about it either. I love Jay and if he leaves i will be pissed at McD, but the fact of the matter is that this is Mcdaniels team and for him to come in and do what he is doing makes the rest of the team see that hes not a pushover and he means business. It shows nobody is untouchable and this is his team. I think that may have been the downfall of shannahan because he let too many playersget away with things. I think this will also benefit Cutler because this year, he will play with a chip on his shoulder and with a special intensity that could make us a team to really watch for. As for RB i hop Torain is healthy and him and Hillis can work the backfield it would jsut b magic!!!!

  28. DenverDaveinPA says:

Torain did look good againt Cleveland until…That said, I see him beginning the year on the PUP list, and out for the first 6 weeks. With this in mind, and the way things are going, he’s probably gone. I still think releasing Alridge was a mistake, but who am I? Dude was snatched up in seconds it seemed.

  29. twiztedbronco says:

cutler6101 Says: IF CUTLER GOES WE ALL SHOULD LEAVE AND IMMEDIATELY LEAVE THIS WEBSITE, BLOG..THEY KNOW WE ARE ON HERE.AND THEY WILL KNOW WHEN WE LEFT. WE ARE THE ONES THAT COME TO THE GAME AND BUY STUFF.

That is a genius idea. Lets just show him that we aren’t supporting this team. Hey! if we take it far enough maybe he’ll move the team to somewhere that they would be psyched to have a football team. That’ll show em. My God! As I have said in previous posts, I didn’t realize that we had som many bandwagon fans here. If you’re pissed w/ McD then boo him at the games or whatever you feel you need to do, but don’t go turning your back on the team you are supposedly a fan of. And since everyone needs to keep bringing it back up I should point out that they are BOTH wrong here. Had McD not done what he did no one everyone would be praising him and had Jay not taken it the way he did no fan would have reacted the way they did. End of story. Can we move on?

  30. RSH says:

Honestly, this whole Cutler and McDaniels feud-fiasco is just one of the reasons I and many Americans are at wit’s end with professional sports in America. That said, I don’t know who to believe in all of this with conflicting media reports coming from all sorts of unnamed sources. I just have a bad feeling at where this whole dilemma is headed.

  31. aSharpeIdea_84 says:

twiztedbronco – cutler6101 Says: IF CUTLER GOES WE ALL SHOULD LEAVE AND IMMEDIATELY LEAVE THIS WEBSITE, BLOG..THEY KNOW WE ARE ON HERE.AND THEY WILL KNOW WHEN WE LEFT. WE ARE THE ONES THAT COME TO THE GAME AND BUY STUFF.

    That is a genius idea.

No, that is a completely MORONIC IDEA and one that a true citizen of Bronco Nation wouldn’t even think about much less post.

So I’m reading if Cutler gets traded people are talking about leaving the site, not supporting the Broncos anymore, being really pissed, and even protesting outside Dove Valley?

And you say Cutler needs to grow up and stop being a cry baby?!?

Surely the people writing these types of things have to be teenagers, or at least immature adults. It takes two to tango and Cutler’s attitude towards this situation has as much to do with everything that’s going on as McD’s role in it.

Yes, I understand the Defensive situation over Cutler’s career here, however he doesn’t have to make poor decisions in key moments when the D is on the bench.

TRUE Bronco fans are with the TEAM, not an individual player. You guys are acting like the T.O. of football fans!

And what do we as fans want? We want to WIN, and we want to win the Super Bowl. Cutler, and yes I like the kid and think he’s got huge potential, is 17-20 and threw 18 INT’s last year. He’s got a smart head and a strong arm but I don’t want a Drew Bledsoe in Denver for the next 10 years. I would rather have a Matt Cassel or a Trent Dilfer if it means winning the Super Bowl.

Anyone else out there with me?

And since everyone wants to win the Super Bowl don’t you think that maybe, JUST MAYBE, McDaniels, Bowlen and X might know just a little bit more about what it takes to accomplish that than ANY OF US DO?!?!?!?

What do you do for a living? Whatever it is it’s not coaching Pro Football. These guys live and breathe it, working 100+ hours a week! Is there any one single activity that you do for that length of time? I doubt it, including sleep unless you sleep 14 hours a day! The only single thing the average person does for 100 hours a week is breathe and blink.

And last I checked the Patriots know more about winning the SB than any other team this decade, and even at the tops in history. Don’t you think that it would be smarter to WAIT AND SEE what happens with a Super Bowl winning coach before you start calling for his head?!?!? I’m incensed! Please people pull your heads out already.

One last thing. Just because no coach coming from NE has had success so far as a head coach doesn’t mean ANYTHING in regards to McDaniels. He is a completely different person in a completely different situation. It’s like saying since nobody has ever run a 4 minute mile then nobody ever will. And then along came Roger Bannister.

All of this Cutler/McD drama is just that. Drama! And hey, drama can be fun sometimes. I hope Cutler stays because I think McD can help him become an elite QB in this league and bring a Championship back to Denver. If he moves on, and I think that is up to him more than it’s up to McD, I wish him the best and I support McD and our team. If McD shows he can’t win, kind of like Wade Phillips did, then yes, let’s get rid of him. But until the guy has a chance to prove what he can do in the game then calling for his head now just doesn’t make any sense.

The bottom line for me is that I’m a Bronco Fan, through and through, regardless of who’s the owner, coach or players. It’s called BRONCO NATION baby!!

  32. eternalorangeandblue says:

well said sharpeidea. Unless any of us are clairvoyant, which I doubt any of us are, we should try and give this a chance. As fans and as a community.

  33. raidrhadr says:

Firstly I wish recovering players a speedy recovery. It will be good to see you all competing again.

With regards to discussions between Coach McDaniels and Jay Cutler:

Jay, Grow up. You are in the big leagues now. Saying you don’t believe that the Broncos only entertained trade offers and that you believe they initiated them sounds like a comment I would expect to hear from a high schooler. You are becoming a distraction and these antics being displayed by you and your agent should not continue. Channel your energies on becoming part of the solution, not part of the problem. Focus your energies on issues like the pick 6 you threw against KC here in denver. I can’t tell you how to do your job as a player but I know as a fan that ticket sales are going to be down this year anyway. (bad economy, dissapointing season) Controversy will only exacerbate the potential for lack of support from the fans. Yes I realize that Jay will not likely read this. But I had to vent.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

  34. LBWilson56 says:

Wow..here we go again with the”If Cutler leaves im not a bronco fan anymore”…..Boy…I’m really disappointed in all of ya….What happened to being a Bronco fan 4 life?Bleeding blue and orange?Just talk i guess….

  35. LBWilson56 says:

    ASharpeidea-84..you are a TRUE Bronco Fan…..

  36. dinotheradlion says:

If Cutler leaves im going to be ticked. Who else are they going to get? Rex Grossman? Trent Green? They may as well sign John Elway…McDaniels has really screwed this up…and he needs to take it like a man and come out and apalogize to Cutler. Publicly.

  37. twiztedbronco says:

    ASharpeidea-84,

Exactly what I was getting at. You’re the man!

  38. Iceberg12 says:

I am a HUGE, DIE HARD Broncos fan and follow what is going on quite well. Just like it was said before, it takes 2 to tango. Cutler does need to move on and grow up. We all know that, but that will come here in the future. Remember, he is only 25 years old, and I bet if all of you remember yourself at the age of 25 (if you are that age or older) you may have been considered an adult but you probably still had a WHOLE LOT of growing up to do!!! He still is not off the hook though, and NEITHER is McDaniels!!! He has been the cause of all of this. It had to start somewhere and it starts with him. He is young for a HC and is trying to make a statement, WHICH might I add, he is SUCKING at that statement!!! IF Jay goes, I will still be here. I will be pissed but still be here. Jay has PROVEN that he is a STARTING QB, McDaniels has NOT PROVEN that he is an effective HC!!! Hold on ladies and gentleman, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!!!

  39. Al Wilson 4 Mayor says:

    Anything new today Adam?

  40. 1golfdoc says:

it’s come to this. mr. bowlen, you need to bring in mcd & cutler to your office for a massive time-out. leave your office & tell them when you return all is good or a head will roll. just remember, you’ve now been lucky enough to have two great talents at qb. elway didn’t fulfill his potential for a while, thanks reeves, NOT! hang with cutler, keep surrounding him with talent. i can’t believe cassel was even being considered. the talent on that team left him looking good. wait to see how good he is in kc. i’m predicting a massive flop. on the issue of marshall, i say package him in trade during draft. he’s worn out his welcome.

  41. papacy808 says:

I agree with you 6to15for6 “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. The O was fine and would be better if they could rely on the D. The D needed fixing at several positions and or scheme’s. Special Team needed fixing also. With that said something don’t smell right at Dove Valley. I bleed Orange and will wait and see how this all unfolds. Stop all the finger pointing , name calling and give coach McD a chance. I know things will turn around for the good this year.

  42. Iceberg12 says:

hey aSharpeIdea_84, I just wanted to say, I like your post from before. I do agree to an extent. And I do know what it’s like to work 100+ hours a week, and it wasn’t sitting in an office either. What I do in the Military, we don’t use an office, we work in the heat and i have been doing it for 7 years!!! Some of us out here know what long, hard work is about and make a lot less money doing it!!! It doesn’t make us Cocky and conceded like how I feel McDaniels is acting. When we get new recruits in, we don’t just throw them in the mix until the are properly trained and developed. We guide them and teach them. McDaniels is a new recruit i.e. unproven, never been in the position he is in, and yet he is trying to take over this team like he has been running it for years!!! You don’t give the keys to your cherry convertable to your 16 year old son the day he gets a license and let him go on his own!!! You go with him and teach him how to drive it and take care of it. Pat Bowlen did not go with his new son McD’s. He just threw him the keys and now he needs to be grounded because he wrecked the convertable. Bowlen needs to ground McD and teach him how to drive (be a head coach)!!!!

  43. texark-fan says:

after reading all of this i thought i was in “the twilight zone”.
more bad news about jay and mac, x and bowlen. then it hit me, this is what should be going on………TALKING……….if they are talking they are trying to work things out. you can recall a time when jay would not talk to mac, x, or bowlen. so this is not bad news like everyone is thinking…..just news. see there is 2 sides to every coin.

  44. broncomaniac4life says:

are you people kidding me? I thought we support the Denver Broncos not jay cutler. give me a break. If all you bandwagon fans who love Cutler want to jump ship when/if he gets traded..then by all means get your life jacket. I’m a DIE HARD denver broncos fan. The whole team. I support the team when it’s down, makes bad decisions, what not. I’m all for making this team better. We’ve been average for the past 3 years. Un-freak’n-acceptable. Time to stir the pot. Nobody on this team is untouchable. And I state=TEAM. That’s what the fans of CO support. The whole team. Not 1 pre-madonna player w/great God given talents. I’m happy there are still a strong contingent of loyal BroncoManiacs. Stay strong. be safe. and Keep the Faith. punches n bunches….

  45. Iceberg12 says:

I do agree that everyone on the team is tradeable!!! But like most of you have stated this is a team, and that INCLUDES the coaches. That includes MCDANIELS!!!! Like I said before, Cutler is not off the hook in my eyes what so ever, he still needs to grow up, that will come in time. But ask yourself this, what has McD done for this team???? NOTHING, except shake up the most important part of this oganization, the BRONCOMANIACS. What has Cutler done??? Everyone says look at his record!!! He and the WR are the only reason we were even in a position to make the playoffs last season. If we had an average D last year (ranked 16th-20th) not 30th, we would have been in the playoffs, plain and simple. And yet it seems as if eveyone is all about McD’s now. And the BRONCOMANIACS are arguing with eachother. We sound just as bad as the organization. Remember, this started with McD’s!!! Cutler, grow up and McD’s stop wrecking the car (read above to understand)!!!!!

  46. aSharpeIdea_84 says:

Iceberg12 – My hats off to you! Military people are definitely among the hardest working people in the world.

I completely agree with your analogy of training new recruits. This is different in that with the military, we are potentially talking about peoples lives. In football, it’s a game. Nothing more. Yes it’s a business but fundamentally speaking it’s a game. That’s it.

If the Broncos won the Super Bowl, The Avs won the Stanley Cup, and the Nuggets and Rockies each won the Championship, all 4 teams for every year for the next 20 years, ultimately it wouldn’t really do anything to improve my life much. I would have more entertainment and probably spend more money on paraphernalia, but really it wouldn’t make much of a difference.

You military folk have a MUCH larger responsibility in shaping the very fabric of societies locally and globally. With all due respect to you as a true Broncos fan, it’s really apples to oranges. Not to mention if I’m not mistaken an I.Q. of 80 is all that’s required to enter the armed forces.

Bowlen stated in the firing of Shanahan that ALL decisions at the end of the day are on his desk and come from him. He made that perfectly clear.

Now, McD isn’t proven as a HC that is true. However, he does have a respectable resume and I am more impressed with him than I am with any of the other NE alumni that have moved on to become head coaches. Josh is a sharp guy there is no doubt, and Cutler is very intelligent as well.

Bowlen has to allow McD to establish his authority as HC in order for the players to respect him and establish credibility otherwise they won’t listen and buy into his schemes and philosophies.

Just look that the Raiders and Al Davis and even Jerry Jones in Dallas for examples of an owner trying to be the puppet master over the HC. Why do you think Jimmy Johnson left? Switzer won with Jimmy’s team, and Jerry Jones didn’t like Jimmy’s independence as a leader.

I am grateful we have Pat Bowlen as our owner. He picks the best guy in his opinion and then allows him to lead and so far McD has show that he is doing exactly that.

Cutler will show true leadership by submitting to his chain of command and doing exactly what is asked of him. If he doesn’t show on Monday then I personally will not be heartbroken if he gets traded. Why? Because leaders lead by example, not drama and words.

  47. Cutlerizer says:

    Mr. Bowlen, McCoach,
My take is that you need to get your (selves) on an airplane and get out to Santa Clause, Indiana or wherever the (world) Jay Cutler is, and fix this. You messed it up, you fix it.
You have the ability to fix this, but so far it seems that you don’t have the skills to manage a player of Cutler’s caliber. Maybe, with this new administration, we just don’t have the class to keep such talent.
My prediction is that Champ is on his way out of town also, unless you figure out how to get your heads out of your…
One angry and disappointed Bronco fan.

asharpidea84, Do you honestly think the players are going to respect him (McCoach) if he winds up driving their leader out of town? The offense loves Cutler and knows what kind of weapon he is.
I, personnally, respect Cutler for doing what he has to do. I don’t like it, but I can see it. After all, like I’ve heard so many times against him, this is business.
I havn’t heard whinning, just honesty, from Cutler. He’s upset because the team he committed himself to, and wants to be loyal to, they want him to be a leader, but suddenly start treating him like some bum. First by firing Shanny without even a conversation, then by trying to trade him. Way to instill confidence in the team leader. The coach, by his actions and insecurity is undermining the leadership of the QB. Pitiful. There’s a disconnect there somewhere.
I’d never thought I would have said this before, but the Broncos are going south… Shameful.

well put aSharpeIdea_84, especially your last statement about if Cutler doesn’t show on Monday!!! I agree 110% with that!!! If he doesn’t show, well then they have to do what they have to do!!! And if that is trading Cutler well then later, because that will show that he does not want to be a leader and does not want to be a Bronco most of all!!! I do not think that McDaniels was the best pick for the job though. I feel that Steve Spagnuolo would have been a better fit in our organization and maybe get us back on track!!! But it is too late to change that! And Jerry Jones has let his coaches do there thing until now, and it’s because they are not winning. Al Davis is just an Idiot, enough said about him. P. Bowlen doesn’t need to run things completely but he needs to have a little control on what’s going on. He is just sitting back and doing nothing, oh wait, he DID say “We are not trading Cutler” and that’s it!!! And LMAO about the i.q. of 80. We go by asvab scores and you don’t have to be smart to be in the Military but if you don’t have some sort of intelligence when you come in, you either get out after 4 years or get kicked out, not stay in for more!!! It’s not for everyone, that’s for dang sure!!!

What if the three-way trade negotiation was all actually NOT McDaniels’ idea? Who is potentially a dangerous opponent for New England this year? If things fall into place the right way, Denver could be. But if Belichick were able to somehow weaken them… what could he do? Well, he has a quarterback he knows Denver’s new coach has a personal connection with. Why not dangle him in front of Denver’s coach like the apple on the tree in Eden? McDaniels doesn’t even need to take the apple; word about him even being shown it could lead to an upset would-be tradee. It’s like the pink-ribbon in Young Goodman Brown (Hawthorne reference; couldn’t help it)… Cutler just needs to have a little scrap of evidence and now Denver’s not looking so imposing to the Patriots. If Belichick actually DID set this up with that in mind… I must concede, he IS a genius.
