If there’s one thing Eric Decker has learned about playing with Peyton Manning, it’s that he always needs to be on his toes.
That was on full display last week at Duke University, when Decker, Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker worked out with Manning and his brother Eli along with three Giants receivers.
“It’s funny because Peyton and Eli love to joke around with one another,” Decker said. “I think that makes us as receivers more comfortable, that these guys work their tail off, they demand the best out of you, but they like to have a good time.”
But you can’t get too comfortable.
At the end of the workout sessions, Decker wasn’t in on the joke when he received a $3,000 invoice from Manning.

“It took them about 15 minutes for them to say something (and for me) to realize it was fake,” Decker said. “I was trying to be polite. (Duke) Coach (David) Cutcliffe was there. I looked at it about six times. Peyton was sitting right next to me and he got up to leave a few times just because he couldn’t hold in his laughter. There was state tax on there and some stuff I was confused by. It definitely got me.”
Thomas was sitting across the table when Decker was trying to figure out what to do about the unexpected bill.
“He was shocked,” Thomas laughed. “He was looking at me, and gave me the googly eyes. He didn’t know what to do because he thought the whole trip was free; we were just coming to throw and catch. He got a little invoice, so he was a little shocked.”

The whole thing, Decker and Thomas confirmed, was Manning’s idea.
So don’t expect Decker to let the deed go unpunished.
“Oh yeah, there is some stuff in the works,” he smiled. “I got some intel from some people on his side, so it’s going to be good.”
