The 2009 NFL Draft will finish up today, with rounds 3-7 starting at 8 a.m. MDT.
As it stands, the Broncos don’t have a pick until the 14th pick of the fourth round, No. 114 overall. We will update this blog every time the Broncos select a player in the draft, so continue to check back throughout the day.
10:15 a.m. MDT: So here we are — the fourth round has rolled around. Just about a dozen more picks until the Broncos are on the clock. We’ll have the pick as soon as it’s made.
10:26 a.m. MDT: I’ve been informed that first-round selections Knowshon Moreno and Robert Ayers are at the facility, getting their first look at a building they will grow very familiar with. We’ll have pictures of their arrival and video of their press conference later in the day.
Right now it’s pick No. 105 — Denver will make its selection at No. 114. We’re getting close.
10:55 a.m. MDT: The Chargers have made their selection at No. 113 and the Broncos are officially on the clock.
10:59 a.m. MDT: Looks like the pick is in…and it’s safety David Bruton out of Notre Dame. Back with more on him in a minute.

Bruton showed his potential to be a playmaker at the next level in his first season as a starter in 2007. He finished with 85 tackles, three interceptions and 4.5 tackles for loss. As a senior last season, his statistics improved — he amassed 91 tackles, four interceptions and two forced fumbles.
A team captain for the Fighting Irish, Bruton is a leader, and his speed and athleticism could make him a solid starter and a great special teams player in the NFL.
It was his showing at the Combine that was truly impressive and showed the potential Bruton has to be a big-time player.
Among safeties at the Combine, he finished second in the 40-yard dash, seventh in bench press repetitions, tied for first in vertical jump, first in broad jump, tied for second in the three-cone drill and first in the 60-yard shuttle.
More on the team’s first selection in the fourth round to come.
11:42 a.m. MDT: The Broncos are once again on the clock, as the Arizona Cardinals have made their selection.
11:46 a.m. MDT: The pick is in. With the 132nd selection of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Broncos take guard Seth Olsen from Iowa. More on the pick in a minute.

Olsen, at 6-foot-5 and 306-pounds, seems to enjoy the physical hand-to-hand combat inside the trenches. He leaves Iowa as a first-team All-Big Ten selection. He played primarily at right guard in 2008 after earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors at right tackle as a junior.
Olsen has spent much of his time on the right side of the line, starting the past two seasons, but he has also seen some time at left tackle.
He certainly has versatility with his ability to switch positions on the offensive line, and he showed some of his agility by placing in the top 10 among offensive linemen at the Combine in the three-cone drill.
More on the team’s second pick in the fourth round later.
The team’s next selection is the 13th of the fifth round — No. 149 overall.
12:11 p.m. MDT: The Broncos just traded back into the fifth round, pick No. 141. Stay tuned.
12:14 p.m. MDT: And the pick is in…With the 141st overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Broncos pick up Kenny McKinley, wide receiver out of South Carolina. He’s the all-time leading receiver in South Carolina history. More on the pick to come.

McKinley left South Carolina as the school record-holder for receptions and receiving yards, also finishing second on the school’s all-time touchdown catches list.
His 207 career receptions are third in SEC history — he became just the fifth player ever in the conference to haul in more than 200 catches. He also became just the 12th player in the prestigious conference’s history to record more than 2,700 receiving yards.
South Carolina Head Coach Steve Spurrier called McKinley the best receiver he has ever coached.
McKinley began his career as a Gamecock as a true freshman, when he started six games and ranked third on the team with 25 catches for 291 yards and a touchdown. He also returned 18 punts for a 4.6-yard average.
As a sophomore, he started all 13 games to kick off a streak of 33 consecutive starts. He caught 51 passes for 880 yards and five touchdowns, in addition to averaging 8.9 yards on 17 punt returns. He even threw a 22-yard touchdown pass.
He played with turf toe for most of his junior season — he ended up undergoing surgery after the season — he still made second-team All-SEC with a conference-leading 77 catches for 968 yards and nine touchdowns.
Potentially part of the reason the highly-productive receiver slipped to the fifth round was because of injuries. He entered the 2008 season as a preseason All-American, but missed three games and most of a fourth due to a right hamstring strain. He still managed to earn All-SEC honorable mention honors, however, with 54 receptions for 642 yards and four touchdowns. He was invited to the Senior Bowl, but re-injured his hamstring after impressing scouts early in practices.
More to come on the team’s fifth-round pick to come.
1:52 p.m. MDT: After trading to the first pick in the sixth round, the Broncos select quarterback Tom Brandstater from Fresno State. More on the selection in a minute.

At 6-foot-5, Brandstater is one of the tallest quarterback prospects in this year’s draft. A three-year starter at Fresno State, he has the range and arm strength that NFL teams are looking for in a quarterback.
Brandstater closed out his career ranking fifth in the school record books in pass completions and fourth in pass attempts, while ranking sixth all-time with 6,857 yards passing and 7,006 yards in total offense. His 47 touchdown passes placed him seventh in Bulldogs history.
He was the unquestioned leader of his team, and set an example both on the field and in the classroom — Brandstater graduated before his junior season and is finishing up work on his Master’s degree. That intelligence is evident on the field, as he didn’t make many mistakes as a collegian.
As a sophomore, the quarterback earned the first of three Academic All-WAC honors, starting 10 of 11 games and completing 54.5 percent of his passes for 1,490 yards and 13 touchdowns.
As a junior who had already earned his degree, Brandstater began garnering national recognition. He finished 23rd in the NCAA with a 140.49 passing efficiency rating, averaging 213 yards per game. He closed out the season with 2,654 yards and 15 touchdowns to only five interceptions, completing almost 63 percent of his passes.
As a senior, he improved his numbers further, throwing for 2,664 yards and 18 touchdowns.
He is also surprisingly mobile for his size — he finished third among quarterbacks at the Comnbine in the three-cone drill and fifth in the 20-yard shuttle.
More on the team’s sixth-round pick to come.
4:10 p.m. MDT: The Broncos are on the clock with — barring a trade — their final pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. It’s been a big crop so far, let’s see who tops it off.
4:13 p.m. MDT: And the pick is in. It’s Blake Schlueter, a center out of Texas Christian University. More on the pick in a minute.

Schlueter was named second-team All-Mountain West Conference as a junior and a senior, the same two seasons he was named a team captain at TCU. He made the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation’s top center, as a junior, and placed second for the Horned Frogs in knockdown blogs and overall blocking grades that season. He started all 12 games in which he played as a junior.
As a sophomore, he was named honorable mention All-MWC in his first season as a starter — he started all 13 games and topped the Frogs with 63 knockdown blocks, only allowing one sack on the year.
He saw action in all 12 games as a redshirt freshman, as well.
More on the team’s seventh-round selection to come.
4:34 p.m. MDT: Head Coach Josh McDaniels will step to the podium momentarily to discuss the team’s 2009 draft, seemingly signifying that no trades are forthcoming, and the Broncos’ draft has officially come to a close. You can watch the press conference streaming live on the main DenverBroncos.com site.
The 2009 Broncos’ draft class consists of 10 players — six on offense and four on defense. We will have a wrap-up of the second day of the Broncos’ draft later this evening, and another look back at the draft tomorrow. Thanks for sticking with our coverage all weekend.

GREAT DRAFT!!!!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!
And when you get a new Coaching staff, you get a new Team, reguarless of what was on the field last year. I agrew with Coach McD, we needed to fix all aspects of the game. Notjust Defense.
GO BRONCOS 2009!!!!!! 11-5
GO BRONCOS. i agree with this draft. and for everybody who is mad not one of you agree on the same people to be drafted and im going with the coach who helped put a great offensive team like the pats then bunch of negative comments. and Moreno thats great to hear well have a franchise rb again. it will all come together.
BRONCOS #1
i am not mad at moreno but why sign 3 rb and still have at least 4 or 5 under contract already. thats the dumb part.
WGBronco and socalbigbroncofan we need more comments like yours. seems like only the malcontents use this site.
LOL, this is AWESOME, we didn’t draft a single DT but we took 2 safeties…..WOW!
Ya’ll can’t expect everyone to like something. I just hate it when people don’t have the same thought ANYBODY thinks their wrong for telling what they fill negative or otherwise. Whatever happen to agree to disagree. Like everyone should be cheerful. It ok for someone to be mad. That just goes with the territory!
I’ll say it again…..we didn’t draft a single nose tackle….this is unreal….do we really think the 49ers backup is suddenly a stud in the middle? SERIOUSLY? And for the record, Joshie Pooh didn’t pick ANY of those players in New England, Hoodie did….
THAT’S WRITE GREATNESS. iF YOU SAY SOMETHING BAD ABOUT THE TEAM IN HERE THEY THINK YOUR NOT A REAL FAN. WHAT A JOKE!
Jeez guys, I’m being “moderated” because I hurt Josh’s feelings and you aren’t allowed to knock your team anymore when you SEE THE WRECK AHEAD!
I was confused about Moreno at first, but McDaniels obviously likes him and he is probably going to be affective instantly. As for Robert Ayers it could really go either way. He will either be a good pass rusher or a bust. I liked the trade up for Alphonso Smith he’s a really good CB. All of the other picks I don’t really know much about but I hope that QB ends up like Brady or Cassell.
How many time they gonna asks this kid how he got his name?? I would’ve been like ya’ll don’t have cable. lol
A Tscheff88 dont be surprised next yr if he draft Tebow. With no one thinking he can play QB. He keep stressing HIGH CHARACTER GUYS. They might go that way.
You might have to change your name too. I’ve heard Tony is on the trading block. Might go to the Eagles or Browns.
I heard that too. Wow news travels fast. I think Boss might be too.
10 bloggs have not gone through!!!! I think NE traded down to keep us from Brace.
Moreno will definitely open up our offensive attack which will really help our passing game. I believe defensive issues will be resolved before the pre-season.
GET LB Leroy Hill, Seattle, franchise tag removed. Great LB
I’m a little miffed by the Moreno selection but i really like it. I think that we’ll have a great running game. I just thought that they’d pay a little more attention to defensive players. Now if the offensive line can just open some good holes we’ll give the rest of the AFC WEST something to be envious about.
kick some serious butt offense and defense!!!!!!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOBroncos in ’09
So the NFL TV analysis on our 1st round picks was that we picked the best running back and the best defensive player in the draft. So Coach gets an A+ for his first round picks.
I cannot understand why everyone is so upset and keep wanting to add defensive line players. My maths tells me that 3 is less than 4 so we need fewer DL players if we switch from a 4 to a 3.
As I understand it we have 7 players at DT/L – Matthias Askew, Nic Clemons, Ronald Fields, J’Vonne Parker, Kenny Peterson, Carlton Powell and Marcus Thomas. Then we have 6 defensive ends/linebackers – Robert Ayers, Tim Crowder, Elvis Dumervil, Ryan McBean, Jarvis Moss and Darrell Reid. Finally we have 6 out and out linebackers – Boss Bailey, Andra Davis, Louis Green, Mario Haggan, D.J.Williams and Wesley Woodyard (plus Spencer Larsen in need). So that is 19 players for 7 positions.
I would also remind you that the last time we undertook a blanket defensive draft none became starters in the first year. This tells me you need to get free agents for quick results.
McDaniels and his staff know what they are doing and there is so much more still to do – some of the best deals are from undrafted free agents – just remember Rod Smith.
So don’t despair and deride the Coach and our defensive players when we have not even reached pre-season training. Get excited, get behind the Coach and cheer on the team. After all we are on target for a 19-0 season at this stage. Come on you Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tnalen for real we moved up to take Alphonso before the did. Pats if you remember they also took a CB. I think Ayers is gonna will play the 5 tech. Me personally I thought he would have to be bigger to play it oh well.
YEah GEOARGE, you go, I am with you and the BRONCOS all the WAY 2009!!! I AM Syked, LETS GET TO PLAYING TO SEE WHAT THESE GUYS ALL HAVE.
GO BRONCOS 2009!!!
Regarding Mr Moreno I have to say that this is an inspired draft from an ultra-intelligent coach. Everybody goes on about the Broncos running game and how you can put any RB in the backfield and they will have a 1000 yard season.
Well now we have a fabulous running back in the backfield and if the OL gives him the edge there will be no stopping him, especially with Hillis blowing holes for him to run through. McDaniels is giving himself so many options that he will be able to outfox any defence.
G. Bush it’s not that there mad at not getting lineman. Mc D said we need more players to run the 3-4. He lied about that to get the player he wants. I realized that so will everyone else.
theres nothing wrong with a lil disagreement if at the end we all agree we want our team to win our division. and at least win a few playoff games. but to be negative about it is another thing. and our d will step it up and orton or simms will need just a tad of help like what we drafted, a te who could block and a awesome rb like moreno. not to long ago i seen a replay of us beating the patriots in the playoffs on the NFL NET before we lost to pittsburg. and we did it with a guy named plummer. this time we have better qbs a rb and an o line that will protect them. i think this our year to take our division. tired of see sd win and hear how they have one of the best teams and go to the superbowl and win.(lol yeah right) Go DENVER.
greatness could be mc d said what he ment– more players to run the 3-4. that could mean linemen or better limebackers or better coverage d/b or better run support from a safty.
He was talking about LB and DL. I listen to his press conference. I realized when he cough or clera his throat he’s being dishonest. It ok we needed these player lets ride. I know i will have a knowshawn jersey.
I dont think i’m gonna get that YELLOW THROWBACK though.
lol
my only point is you have brought up this point about him lying several times , becouse he clears his throat or coughs. if i clear my throat is b/c i need to. could be the same for mac. calling someone a LIER who cannot defend himself is not cool in my book.
Greatness007- Sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier, about your question, I live in VA. Beach, and C. Powell is from norfolk which is connected at the hip of Virginia Beach!!!
It’s ok Iceberg I just wanted to know whatever happened to the VT RB Mike Umo or Imo? I think thats his name.
If he says we need more LB and DL. Doesn’t draft them what you call it? Like me saying I want the team to loose. Then im on here posting about a hell of a win. Samething! If you say your gonna do something and don’t do it well that the man some wanna be. Thats not my type of stand up person
all I have to say is we need to give our team’s player of the year award to Al Davis this year…that man has lost it. Heyward-Bay over Crabtree and Macklin??? he needs to be put out of his misery.
oh yeah and then that S in the 2nd round…Mayock said there wasn’t even any film on the guy. “Old Al” has officially lost it…
Tell them Greatness! I just listen to all his Press conference. I was gonna call you out too, but he did say we needed more DL and LB that can play the 3-4. He he would take care of it in the draft and didn’t. Good call! He does that coughing stuff to when the Cutler thing was going on! I thought it was nothing, but to day he wasn’t doing it after day 2. Day 1 when he was tryna explain why he traded the 1 pick next yr. He started doing it again. Again GOOD CALL!
You guys are reading in to to everything!! Come on!! Quit reaching for reasons why Mcdaniels didnt do what you expected or wanted him to do. Do you think he is really going to tell his whole plan to everyone? There is such a thing as remaining a little undercover.
could be. but not behind his back. could be it could not be completed in the way he wanted and he changed his mind. this is called THE WEEK OF LIES in the nfl and anything about the draft ANY time is always misleading so no one knows what you are up to. that does not make him a LIER.
could be he just changed his mind also.
I know UUB just have to listen!
Emaldo did you hear how they tried to explain it.( the Coach Cable) Say they got Javon and Miller the TE. So they went that way to stretch the field. lol 50 to 60 mil just to stretch the field. I hope Demarcus throws it up for grab and Dawkins put him to sleep.
That’s why in my earlier post I said im fine with it. Whatever it take to get the players we got so be it. They tryna deal Tony Sheffler to the Eagles or the Brows . It’s ok just get his worth back. Thats all I’m saying!
your opp. is great and welcome but calling some one names just bugs me. i’ll do the same for you when you are off line.
So I am sorry if I missed this but I am curious Greatness007 are you happy with the picks?
does anyone have an idea on who we will pick up for freeagents or trade. or who will we get rid of on the depth. things are looking good and hopefully get better. cant wait for this season. does anyone think well do better than the bears. cant wait to play them in the preseason. GO BRONCOS!
I like the 12 and 18. Ayers kind small for a 5-tech. He reminds my of Simon Fletcher though. We need a back to help us with time of position. He sign 3 though before the pick. People saying yeah we can cut them though. It’s still a cap hit money could have went to another position. I like Alphonso. I think he traded the 1 cuz he know the Pats were gonna trade up to get him. Bill said that on NFL Network he liked Smith. He was gone so they took Butler. The TE was kinda like they had a intern in the room. Blindfolded, spon him around, told him to throw the dart at thir boad and it hit Quinn. Now they shopping Tony to the Eagles or Browns now i see why he picked him. The WR in the Pats system they like to spread out and chuck it all ova the field so. I seen it comming but I thought it would have been that TE/WR from Florida. I’m ok though with it. QB tall got a good arm played under center alot and can play the shotgun. I fill he will coach him up thats what he does. People laugh at me, but he will take Tebow next yr. Why you ask? 1. noone in the NFL got him playing QB. 2. Common theme here is character and boy he got that. They treat that kid like he’s a the second comming. The C one of those Intern throw the dart at the board type. If we needed that the kid from Penn state was Right there. The S/CB Reminds me of Tyrone Braxton. Dawkins will be good for him and Hill.
How about Worrell Williams, think that is how you spell his name. ILB, DJ’s brother went undrafted.
I agree with you for the most part except I expected them to get a TE especially since scheff doesnt want to stick around.
Hey we got Champ brother why not. Oh that right Shanny not here will se though.
lmao @ Greatness stop that man. If I didn’t know any better I’d thing you were Jamie Dukes lol
can some one tell me why and when scheff wanted to leave?
All Hail Lord Favre. sike naw Just look at every angle and ot with rose colored glasses on!
Mc dan told him he was not his type of TE. When he first came man where have people been. Said he’d have to prove him self to get resigned!
Man everyone that Mike S. drafted is on the clock. A Greatness I think they have not found out its a rebuilding yr.
