Lightning cut the evening session of practice on Monday short, and as the team left the field, the players in the blue jerseys chanted “Defense!” — apparently the defensive players felt they won the practice.
Here are a few quick hits from the shortened session.
ROLL CALL: Champ Bailey, Correll Buckhalter and Brandon Stokley were back at practice this evening after missing the morning session.
Among the veterans absent from practice were Casey Wiegmann, Brandon Marshall, Daniel Graham and D.J. Williams.
POSITIONING: Without Wiegmann at practice, the offensive line made a switch that has become a common occurance — rookie Seth Olsen moved into the left guard slot, while Ben Hamilton moved over to center.
The team practiced kickoffs, and the coverage team consisted of Vernon Fox, Wesley Woodyard, Spencer Larsen, Kenny McKinley, Josh Barrett, Matt Prater, Darrell Reid, Mario Haggan, David Bruton, Andre’ Goodman and Alphonso Smith.
DRILLS: Defensive backs worked in pairs, running routes with one player attempting to catch the pass and the other attempting to break it up.
The receivers ran a similar drill, working in pairs with one receiver having to catch the pass over his shoulder while the other put his hands in the air, acting as the defensive back.
The kickoff team worked on squib kicks, onside kicks and regular kickoffs.
PLAYMAKERS: During 11-on-11s, Kyle Orton found Eddie Royal deep down the field with a tight spiral, which drew cheers from the crowd.

Later in the 11-on-11s session, Darcel McBath leaped to get a hand on a pass and tip it away from the receiver for an incompletion.
QUICK HITS: LaMont Jordan spent some time acting as a quarterback in drills, throwing the ball for his teammates during running back drills.

DAILY JUKEBOX: Even in a short session, there was plenty of music. It got played during warm-ups as well as during 11-on-11s to act as crowd noise. Here’s the playlist:
Young Jeezy – “Bottom of the Map” (This once again drew some shouts of approval and dancing from the defense, specifically Woodyard)
Lil Wayne – “Money In Mind”
Earth, Wind and Fire – “Let’s Groove Tonight” (When this came on, defensive line coach Wayne Nunnely said, “Now we’ve got some music!”)
Young Jeezy – “Put On”
T.I. and Rihanna – “Live Your Life”
Temple of the Dog – “Hunger Strike”
The team will be back on the field tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. MDT.

HomeTeam007… Dawkins is the kind of guy that can make a HUGE impact whether he’s been with this team for a few months or many years. He’ll make a big difference, just wish he could get through to Marshall. Marshall just probably won’t listen… too stubborn. Dawkins will make a very noticable difference on and off the field. That’s just how he is. One person can make that big of a difference. He’s one of those people, no doubt about it. His leadership is something we’ve been without for a long time.
HomeTeam007, I have no doubt that Dawkins will bring leadership to this D… Just hearing the guy simply speak about something makes you want to go out and crush someone…. wait ’till he’s on the field and they see him… It’ll bring up everyones game (I personally think)…
It’s like this: I remember in this last Pro Bowl, for AFC, who was motivating the team before the game? Ray Lewis… The guy is a natural motivator, by words and actions… Dawkins is that same type of guy… He has a way with words and actions to get people off their butts and play, play hard….
hey dd what was that link to your fan huddle articles, I’d like to read some
you know, i really think we have a great team, but we should trade marshall before he just leaves next year in free agency while we can get his worth. 2nd in the league in receptions, maybe we could get Wes Welker for him, Chris Simms/Kyle orton and a third round pick. ?
Dawkins and Ray Lewis are the same type of people, I remember last year during the Eagles Cowboys game for the final playoff spot he gave this kind of speech and you could see all the eagles players just look at him with awe, Among all the talking I heard a phrases “I’m a leave everything on this field, Everything.” Now when I’m in the huddle in my football team, to pump them up I’d always say that
Marshallman-15, We would put the Franchise tag on him and get something out of him leaving (via trade)
I’ve never really learned how the franchise tag worked, so…ya
are we still wanting a great nose tackle? or marshall?
hey whats up all you BRONCO FAN!!! i just became a new member!! and im very excited about it, cause i live and breath the denver broncos.. but anyway. i get on here everyday and read all the comments u all leave, and now i can put in my two since to.
GO BRONCOS!!!
broncoholic19, welcome. thats what it’s all about.
I only hope we can trade Marshall as valuable as he thinks he is.
I don’t care what the “experts” predict for the team. They have no reference, no data to get good conclusions. New system in both offense and defense, new coaches, new players (playing different positions)…
To be honest, I think we’ll get a 7 – 9 record, which with all the change and stuff, it’s a very positive way to begin a new dynasty. We had that same record 3 years ago and with more than 10 years using the same scheme. So, no big deal.
Go Broncooos!
Hey guys,
we are doing a fantasy football keeper league draft on saturday. We need three more people to join by friday. It is also a points per reception league. So if you can be there for the draft saturday night and want to play multiple seasons. Then please sign up.
League ID: 492482
League Name: Denver Broncos
Password: champ24
It’s good to see people writing and talking sense here. This team has tremendous upside. Our schedule is more than tough, it’s darn near impossible, but it will be a great baptism of fire for our new players and systems, as well as a definable measuring stick of our overall potential. We will enter next season that much wiser, stronger, and better. Our future is very bright, just stick with us.
Marshall in a three team trade. The only WR that is comparable in talent, has injury issues, is not content and has been a huge distraction to his team this year is Braylon Edwards. Marshall to Clev., Edwards to someone we want.
McDaniels… please go out and pickup tavaris jackson. He played great down the stretch for Minnesota and if he only costs us a mid round pick, he’ll be worth it.
Welcome broncoHOLIC19.
i agree with most people when they say marshall should shape up or ship out but it has to be for the right person and i hope if he leaves i dont hear people on this site blaming the coach again
You know I think it is interesting that people make predictions about what broncos record will be. I know last year was last year but the games people thought broncos would lose they won and games everyone thought they should win they lost. And I know I have said this before but look at the falcons last year or the dolphins. Who thought they would do that well?! Thats why I take what sportscasters say with a grain of salt. Not to mention they suck at making projections for fantasy football. According to their projections I should have won the last three years. Bologna!!!
Marshallman-15, why would we want a new QB who doesn’t know the system coming in here less then a month before opening season? He wouldn’t know the system enough and turnovers would be even worse. Stop panicking. Orton will settle in.
HomeTeam007, Dawkins has natural leadership skills. Doesn’t matter how long he’s been with the team. Lynch did it for Denver. It’s a matter of the team buying in to what he says. He is a proven leader. He commands respect and attention. Half the team is new so they will listen. Plus, football is football. He will teach that and life’s lessens.
cutlersucks8, Fan Huddle will start on the 7th of Sept. Nothing to read yet. I was online all afternoon reading welcome letters from different writers and filing them in a folder by name and team they represent. It took me hours and hours. and there are still more coming in. I talked with a writer who lives in Vegas also, and he has a radio talk show. I will be touching basis with him to do a radio interview on the Broncos/AFC West in the future. Cool, huh?
http://www.fanhuddle.com/
Boldin is still available, but he wants sic money from the Cards, so I don’t think Denver could afford him.
Atwater4Hof, no, no, no, no, no, no to a new QB. We are less then a month from the opening game and you guys keep talking about putting another Qb who doesn’t have enough time to learn the system comfortably enough to get it done. Stop throwing Orton under the bus after only the 1st preseason game. Man, you guys panic at the tip of a hat. Like I mentioned earlier, rub your ears and say “woo-sah.”
Guys, just give Orton a freakin chance already. This is pathetic. Where is the solid support around here???
LOL, he said woo-sah again. hahaha woo-sah woo-sah. C’mon, say it with me… WOO-SAH!!
