This was a practice dominated by the defense. Whether it was in one-on-one drills or 11-on-11 scrimmages, there seemed to constantly be a defender making a play.
That’s not to say the offense didn’t have its moments — but Tuesday evening’s practice belonged to the defense.
Here are some quick hits from the session.
ROLL CALL: A number of veterans who missed this morning’s practice were back on the field for the evening session. Brandon Stokley, Champ Bailey, Jabar Gaffney and Wesley Woodyard were all back at practice.
POSITIONING: The base defense remained fairly true to the depth chart, which was released yesterday. But Robert Ayers was among the players not listed as starters who saw some time with the first unit defense this evening, along with Wesley Woodyard, Darrell Reid, Darcel McBath, Alphonso Smith and Jack Williams in various packages.
DRILLS: The defensive line and outside linebackers showed up today in one-on-ones against the offensive line. First it was Carlton Powell who got a “good push,” according to defensive line coach Wayne Nunnely. Then Rulon Davis put on a quick move and immediately got past his blocker to the quarterback, receiving high-fives from assistant linebackers coach Roman Phifer, Ryan McBean and Robert Ayers. Then it was Darrell Reid’s turn, and he again put on a quick move to blow past his blocker. Ayers was up next, and did the same thing, getting to the inside of his blocker and straight to the quarterback.
PLAYMAKERS: Before practice, Jarvis Moss worked with Nunnely one-on-one, focusing on how to use his hands to fight off blockers. Apparently the tutoring was a success, because Moss was all over the place during practice. During one-on-one drills with the offensive line, Moss thought he had a sack, but Nunnely said he went too far past the quarterback, who would’ve simply stepped up in the pocket and thrown the ball. So on the next rep, Moss ripped past his blocker and got to the quarterback, drawing a “There you go! Good!” from Nunnely.

But Moss wasn’t done. In 11-on-11s, Moss sprinted into the backfield and wrapped up Darius Walker for a loss, bringing loud encouragement from the defense on the sideline. Finally, with the offense and defense practicing the two-minute drill, Moss blitzed and notched a sack on Kyle Orton.
QUICK HITS: It was a hot practice at the start of the session before the sun fell behind some clouds. Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan stepped outside in a sweatshirt, only to turn around and go back inside to change, joking, “Man, perfect day for a sweatshirt.”

DAILY JUKEBOX: Just a few songs played this evening, and one was a repeat from this morning. Young Jeezy’s “Bottom of the Map” still drew the same excited reaction from some of the defensive players, though. Here is the rest of the playlist.
The team will be back on the field at 1 p.m. MDT tomorrow for an approximately two-hour session.

Knowshon’s new hair-do = NO-Hawk. lol
Next time I’m at the barber I’m asking for a No-Hawk
Good update!
I have never been more excited about a pre-season game in my life. I heard McDaniels make a comment on ESPN insider radio the other day. Did you guys catch it? He said ” I have never been 500 at anything before in my life. I don’t want to know how that feels.” Man he is really putting a lot of pressure on himself and the team. I hope it translates into positive things…wins. The defense does look and sound hungry. I guess we will see this Friday how they stack up. Why do you guys think that the left side is so stacked at OLB. Wouldn’t they just take Moss or Ayers over to the side opposite of Elvis?
Orange Crush!!!!!!
Help! I’m a long time Bronco fan who obsessively reads everthing Bronco related .I’m computer challenged and I finally get a comment posted but that’s my REAL name I want to go by Broncomanic. Go Broncos and I really like the direction this team is going and excited fridays game is on TV here in Vegas.
i don’t think you can change your username paul. You can try to delete it and create another one??

I will be at the 1st game in cincy. already got tickets. I can’t wait
thing is come together guy. maybe the jarven moss do some voodoo when he leave yes. that how we take it to house morenoe. I glad we steal nunnly from charger.
I love it but I think we have a lot of talent but then you start thinking who do you keep on the roster there is a lot of names that bring something to a remake def. So do we keep the Moss and Crowder or the new comers Like Reid or Powell did not play last year. I think we did not draft a DT in first round because the new scheme needs speed demon which we have a lot of but with Shanahan Def. could not keep blockers of the smaller DL men with Fields . Baker and Thomas in and out the middle they will stay fresh and the LB , CB, and Safeties will bring pressure from everywhere keeping a lot of different Off guessing With that moster running game get our off.linemen back to blowing people of the line K. Orton will be best comeback player of 2009 season
Also I must say I hate what happen to Shanahan but the changes had to be made . Don’t really doubt McDaniel but he surround his self with a quality coaching staff and a hell of a offensive scheme that attacks def. the same concept this year on def. So fellow fans expect anything on off. and def.
dlmyers…You live in Vegas too????I met DynamicDave not too long there and it would be cool for all of us to hook up.Im planning on coming out for the Faders game, but if i can ill hook up with two earlier than that at 4 mile..Hope to meet/see ya soon….
